• Removing Unused (Unreferenced) Static Global Variable Constants in C++

  Hi, I have a header file with a few common constants like names and stuff that are automatically included in each project (an example follows). The thing is that they are included in the compiled binary (EXE) whether they are used (referenced) or not. If I use DEFINEs instead, then naturally they are not included if they are not used, but of course consts are better than defines so… I tried Googling it, but the closest thing I could find was a question right here on SO that did not quite help. Matters of i18n aside, how can I keep the ones that are not used out of the binary, while still keeping it easy to use like this?   I was working on a program today and hit this strange bug. I had a UIButton with an action assigned. The action was something like: -(void) someaction:(id) e { if ([e tag]==SOMETAG) { //dostuff } } What confuses me is that when I first wrote it, the if line was if (e.tag==SOMETAG) XCode refused to compile it, saying error: request for member 'tag' in 'e', which is of non-class type 'objc_object*' but I thought the two were equivalent. So under what circumstances are they not the same?

  I tried to run rake test:profile and I got this error: ... Table 'mcif2.accounts' doesn't exist: DELETE FROM `accounts` I know accounts doesn't exist. It's called account. I know Rails uses plural table names by default but here's what my config/environment.rb looks like: # Load the rails application require File.expand_path('../application', __FILE__) # Initialize the rails application McifRails::Application.initialize! • C Different answers for a variable when running 'Debug' and 'Start without debug'

  I keep getting this weird output from my code everytime I use the 'start without degugging' (ctrl-F5) as opposed to normal 'debug' (F5).   Hello, I am trying to replace a string with a new string in a python file and write the new string permanently to it. When I run the below script it removes part of the string and not all of it. However, when I try this, it always returns 7500 which is the value in the BaseClass and not the value of privateVar. In other words, is it possible to inherit a BaseClass's public methods but have any references in them refer to the SubClass's properties? And how would I do that?

  I'm just looking in to the new .NET 4.0 features. With that, I'm attempting a simple calculation using Parallel.For and a normal for(x;x;x) loop. However, I'm getting different results about 50% of the time. long sum = 0; Parallel.For(1, 10000, y => { sum += y; } ); Console.WriteLine(sum.ToString()); sum = 0; for (int y = 1; y < 10000; y++) { sum += y; } Console.WriteLine(sum.ToString()); My guess is that the threads are trying to update "sum" at the same time. • Monitor multiple variable amounts of processes' start and exit

  I need some code to monitor the start and exit of processes. For example, assume I have a config file with 3 processe names, lets say, foo.exe, bar.exe and abc.exe. How I imagine this be done would be to create 3 threads and somehow listen to each process individually with a timer in each thread, and then do something afterwards. However, I would need to dynamically create threads and timers, as the config file is meant to be modifiable. I can work with VB.NET or C# Code. Thanks.

  I have a locationmanager in my main program which is called HomeViewController which I get the latitude and longitude and store them in LAT and LON. I can use LAT and LON in HomeViewController just fine. Once I go to another controller which is sending pictures and setting properties on flicker I want to use LAT and LON, how do I do this? I tried putting HomeViewController.LAT but obviously that does not work, I'm pretty new to the language so I am confused.

• Cannot Display Data from MySQL table

  I've got a pretty standard call to a MySQL database and for some reason I can't get the code to work. Here's what I have: $mysqli = mysqli_connect("localhost","username","password"); if (!$mysqli) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysqli_error($mysqli)); } session_start(); $sql = "SELECT * FROM jobs ORDER BY id DESC"; $result = $mysqli->query($sql); $num_rows = mysqli_num_rows($result); Now, first, I know that it is connecting properly because I'm not getting the die method plus I added an else conditional in there previously and it checked out. Then the page displays but I get the errors: Warning: mysqli_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, boolean given in blablabla/index.php on line 11 Warning: mysqli_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, boolean given in blablabla/index.php on line 12 I've double-checked my database and there is a table called jobs with a row of "id" (it's the primary row). The thing that confuses me is this is code that I literally copied and pasted from another site I built and for some reason the code doesn't work on this one (I obviously copy and pasted it and then just changed the table name and rows accordingly). I saw the error and tried: $num_rows = $mysqli_result->num_rows; $row_array = $mysqli_result->fetch_array; and that fixed the errors but resulted in no data being passed (because obviously $mysqli_result has no value). I don't know why the error is calling for that (is it a difference in version of MySQL or PHP from the other site)? Can someone help me track down the problem? Thanks so much. Sorry if it's something super simple that I'm overlooking, I've been at it for a while.

  I would like to use the syntax that printf uses, using the %d, %s and adding values after to assign a value to a char[]. Is this possible? e.g. Given an output of: printf("now: %d-%d-%d %d:%d:%d\n", tm.tm_year + 1900, tm.tm_mon + 1, tm.tm_mday, tm.tm_hour, tm.tm_min, tm.tm_sec); I'd like to assign that to char[] output; How can this be done? I tried: sprintf(output, "now: %d-%d-%d %d:%d:%d\n", tm.tm_year + 1900, tm.tm_mon + 1, tm.tm_mday, tm.tm_hour, tm.tm_min, tm.tm_sec); but that didn't seem to work.
