  HI, I am normally a C programmer. I do regularly debug C programs on unix environment using tools like gdb,dbx. i have never done debugging of big applications of C++. Is that much different from how we debug in C. theoretically i am quite good in C++ but have never got a chance to debug C++ programs. I am also not sure about what kind of technical problems we face in c++ which will lead a developer to switch on the debugger for finding out the problem. what are the common issues we face in C++ which will make debugger to be started what are the challenges that a c programmer might face while debugging a C++ program? • How to prevent Android bluetooth RFCOMM connection from dying immediately after .connect()?

  I'm trying to connect to a Zeemote (http://zeemote.com/) gaming controller from Moto Droid running 2.0.1 firmware. The test application below does connect to the device (LED flashes) but connection is dropped immediately after that. I can connect to the device perfectly fine using bluez tools (log attached as well). I'm quite at a loss here, I work on it for so long that I ran out of ideas so any help would be very much appreciated. • Streaming Audio over UDP to Android

  Is it possible to have Android (perhaps via MediaPlayer or a different existing class) accept media streams over UDP? I've successfully had MediaPlayer connect to an HTTP stream (as well as static files hosted on an HTTP server) but I'm wondering how one would go about accepting a stream from a UDP source. I've seen this and suppose a solution similar to that (where I download the stream via an independent UDP socket and then move the data to a MemoryBuffer that I then pass to MediaPlayer) is an option but I'm curious if a method already exists in the SDK, and if it does not, what other options do I have?   Hello, I'm writing an application which is able to communicate with my PC. I have used the Bluetooth functionalities of the SDK 2.1. I can find devices, get their MAC address, create a RFCOMM socket, but when I start the connection, I get the following error message : Service discovery failed. 1)Is it because of the UUID which is not the same on my application and on my PC ? 2)How can I get the correct UUID on my PC ? • Performance implications of Synchronous Sockets vs Asynchronous Sockets

  We are trying to build an SMTP Server to receive mail notifications from various clients over internet. As each of the communication will be longer and it needs to log everything, doing this Asynchronous way is little challenging as well as by using Socket's Asynchronous methods we are not sure of how flow of control and error handling happens. Previously we wrote lot of server/client apps but we always used Synchronous sockets, reason being they are longer sessions and each session also has lot of local data to manage and parsing messages etc. Does anyone have any experience over real performance differences between these two methods? Async calls use ThreadPool which we have experienced many times to just die for no reason. And we fail to restart threadpool etc. In one way Request-Response protocol of HTTP, Async Sockets makes sense, but SMTP/IMAP etc protocols are longer and they have interleaved messages plus state machine of server. So Async methods are really complicated to program. However if anyone can share the performance of Sockets, it will be helpful.

Bonus points for also resolving ~username notation at the same time. If the target is a directory, it might be possible to chdir() into the directory and then call getcwd(), but I really want to do this from a shell script rather than writing a C helper. Find all visits to current page where external = true within the last 30 days (unix timestamp, I deal with the date ranges in PHP and then the array, not mongo date) Group all visits by referral location For each referral location, calculate how many then went to visit a page which has a certain word in the [tags]. This appears in my browser correctly when I connect directly to the server entering the URL. However, if I use Ajax (jQuery) to access the same URL and then set the innerHTML of an element on the HTML page, I do not get any data printed.   Hi All, i am new to the web development environment, having came from a unix/c environment. i've been recently asked to create a web app, which i thought would require postgresql, java/j2ee, and javascript for the client interface. as i had wanted a nicer gui, i've been reading up on extjs, which looks really nice to me. a colleague mentioned that the time needed time needed to learn all these various pieces is time consuming, and Jdeveloper seems to provide most of what we'd need (i was shown a demo, which appears to be able to generate some nice web interfaces). what are the pros and cons with the different approaches ? some i can think of: - jdeveloper is an integrated ide, which creates UI easily, tightly integrated with database. (pro) - jdeveloper will be heavier? (con) - wizard generated code may be harder to refactor ? [0] => [1] => Dogs [2] => Cats [3] => Birds [4] => Rabbits I checked the .txt file to make sure there wasn't any space or hidden characters in front of the first # so I'm at a loss of why this is happening other than I feel like I'm missing something terribly simple.   Hi, I am getting Out of Memory error: Memory Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space at org.apache.xerces.dom.CoreDocumentImpl.createElement(CoreDocumentImpl.java:564) I have a standalone Java program which fetches data from DB and create an XML file using DOM. I get the above error if the data fetched is huge, in my case it is 1,000,000 records. I have defined 2GB as heap size while calling the Java class from unix. I tried it with JAXB, but still do not any significant improvement. Any suggestions how to improve the code.

  I am taking a software engineering class right now. Our assignment is to evaluate Mozilla's Thunderbird. Our assignment is to evaluate the size of Thunderbird. One metric that we need to use is the number of lines of code in the project. (Lines of code meaning not including comments or new lines). Is there a standard way to find the number of lines or am I better off just cracking out a script to do this? I think that I could do something like this: # remove all comments find -name *.java | \ sed "/\/*/,\*\// s/.*//g | \ # remove multiline comments sed s/\/\///g # remove single line comments # count not empty lines find -name *.java | grep -c "<character>" But I would need to do that for each file type. It seems like there should be some utility that does that already. (something mac/unix compatible would be preferable).

  Folks: Has anyone had success connecting to a Progress-4GL database with Delphi?   I've been unable to establish any connection with the ODBC driver provided by the vendor (Progress OpenEdge 10.1C Driver). I've entered (what I believe are) the right parameters, but keep on getting an error whenever I test the connection: "[DataDirect][ODBC Progress OpenEdge Wire Protocol driver] Socket closed." Background: I've been tasked to re-design a 13-year-old application, but the original programmer did not provide any supporting documents, passwords, configuration setup, etc. (I'm on my own)!   To make things worse, online help and useful documentation about Progress is scarce (I had never heard about this database until now). I want to examine the existing data, maybe create an ERD to familiarize myself with the schema, but I can't even access the data outside of the OpenEdge code. Any help is appreciated!

  I am writing a C# program that uses System.Threading.Timer to timeout on a UDP socket ReceiveAsync call. My program polls a remote device, sending a UDP packet and expecting one in return. I use the timer in one shot mode calling Timer.Change every time I want a new timeout period. For every occurance of a timeout I'd like the timeout handler to have a different piece of information. If I change the object I pass to the Timer on creation it doesn't seem to change when the handler executes. Is the only way to do this to destroy the timer and create a new one? Thanks,

• java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

  I am getting the following error trying to read from a socket. I'm doing a readInt() on that InputStream, and I am getting this error. Perusing the documentation this suggests that the client part of the connection closed the connection. In this scenario, I am the server. I have access to the client log files and it is not closing the connection, and in fact its log files suggest I am closing the connection. So does anybody have an idea why this is happening? What else to check for? Does this arise when there are local resources that are perhaps reaching thresholds? Many thanks, Darryl

• Webmail client that can open multiple email addresses at once like a desktop client

  I've got 5 email domains with multiple email addresses on each domain. Traditional webmail clients only seem to allow you to browse a single account at a time (ie, you log into that account). With over 20 email addresses I need to monitor, this is obviously a major time sink. Is there a (preferably OSS, unix-based) webmail client that simulates a desktop email client, ie I log in once and can access all the email addresses from a central control panel? I've considered using a ticket system but that is overkill and not really used to my needs.
