  • Converting a Matrix to a grid of colors

    I'm currently making a console application in C# (will be going to a Windows Form application in the future. Sooner if needed). My current objective is to have a matrix (current size 52x42) be exported as an image (bitmap, jpeg, png, I'm flexible) where each value in the matrix (0, 1, 2, 3) is portrayed as a white, black, blue, or red square of size 20px x 20px with a grid 1px wide seperating each 'cell'. Can this even be done in a console application, and if so how? If not, what would I need to get it working in a Windows Form application?

  • Programmatic binding of accelerators in wxPython

    I am trying to programmatically create and bind a table of accelerators in wxPython in a loop so that I don't need to worry about getting and assigning new IDs to each accelerators (and with a view to inhaling the handler list from some external resource, rather than hard-coding them). I also pass in some arguments to the handler via a lambda since a lot of my handlers will be the same but with different parameters (move, zoom, etc).     I am trying to write a small application, whose only purpose is to copy some folders and .cs source files into a user specified Directory, I can do it easy enough by simply having the application look for the files and folders in its own install directory then copy them to thier destination Directory, but I was wondering if its possible to Embed the Folders and Files into the Application, so that when you run the application it creates or copies the folders and files from the exe app directly to the install directory, rather than searching for them in the apps install directory then copying them over. Basically Im trying to only have a single exe file rather than having an exe file and a bunch of folders and files along side it. Is this possible to do with just a Windows Form App without using an actual Installer Class?

  • How do I log in to the ubuntu 10.04 server using grub2 from a remote computer/terminal with GUI running

    I upgraded my server from ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04. It now uses the grub2 bootloader. In 8.04 from the grub log-in page I could select the option log in to server and thereby connect through SSH directly to my server and have the GUI running. I can currently log in to my upgraded server now from any of my 8.04 machines using grub1 with the GUI running. I cannot log in that way from a machine that uses grub2 and ubuntu 10.04. I want to upgrade my entire network to ubuntu 10.04 but cannot until I know how to log in to the network from grub2 with the gui open. I have exhausted all my ideas as to the solution to this problem. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank-you

You can also download the sample solution I am demo-ing in the blog post. Introduction Performance testing is as important for new websites as it is for evolving websites. If you already have your website running in production you could mine the information available in IIS logs to analyse the dense zones (most used pages) and performance test those pages rather than wasting time testing & tuning the least used pages in your application. What are IIS Logs To help with server use and analysis, IIS is integrated with several types of log files. These log file formats provide information on a range of websites and specific statistics, including Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, user information and site visits as well as dates, times and queries. If you are using IIS 7 and above you will find the log files in the following directory C:\Interpub\Logs\ Walkthrough 1. Download and Install Log Parser from the Microsoft download Centre. You should see the LogParser.dll in the install folder, the default install location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Log Parser 2.2. LogParser.dll gives us a library to query the iis log files programmatically. By the way if you haven’t used Log Parser in the past, it is a is a powerful, versatile tool that provides universal query access to text-based data such as log files, XML files and CSV files, as well as key data sources on the Windows operating system such as the Event Log, the Registry, the file system, and Active Directory.   • Dynamic gridview columns event problem

    Hi, i have a GridView (selectable) in which I want to generate a dynamic GridView in a new row BELOW the selected row. I can add the row and gridview dynamically in the Gridview1 PreRender event. I need to use this event because: _OnDataBound is not called on every postback (same for _OnRowDataBound) _OnInit is not possible because the 'Inner table' for the Gridview is added after Init _OnLoad is not possible because the 'selected' row is not selected yet. I can add the columns to the dynamic GridView based on my ITemplate class. But now the button events won't fire.... Any suggestions?   • Rails & combo box change event: Help make this obtrusive javascript unobtrusive

    Ok so a friend of mine gave some help with a prototype/obtrusive solution to this but its not quite there. Also, I want to make this unobtrusive instead of using the observe_field function that rails gives me. I don't want to use prototype either because I'm more familiar with JQuery. Here's my problem: I have an Event that can have multiple ServiceTypes and a ServiceType can belong to many Events. A many-to-many relationship between these two exists as an OfferedService. When creating an event, I have a drop down with a list of TimeAllotments that are something like 10 minutes, 12 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes etc. When the user selects one of these choices, I want a div tag to be filled with a list of ServiceTypes that are associated with this TimeAllotment. So for example, the user selects "10 minutes" and then the div repopulates with services that last 10 minutes. I have looked at Ryan's rails casts for using JQuery but its not helpful because he deals with ajax calls for the create action. This would be for the new or edit action. I have a new.js.erb but it doesn't get loaded when calling the new action. I'm super lost as far as getting JQuery to work with my application. I think that if someone can just show me how to make an alert pop up when I change the combo box, and how to return a dataset using ajax the right now, I think I can figure out the rest.   • LinkButtons Created Dynamically in a Repeater Don't Fire ItemCommand Event

    Hi. I've got a repeater that's used to display the output of a dynamic report that takes criteria from webcontrols on the page. Within the repeater's ItemDataBound method I'm adding controls (Linkbuttons for sorting by column values) dynamically to the header of the repeater based on values selected in a checkbox list and at this point setting the CommandArgument and CommandName properties of the linkbuttons. The issue is that when the linkbuttons are clicked they don't fire the ItemCommand event although they are clearly being correctly created and added to the header (there is some additional code to set the cssClass, text etc. and this works as expected.) The first column header in the repeater is set in the markup and the itemcommand event fires correctly on this one only. When the other column headers are clicked the repeater rebinds as programmed, but the columns are not dynamically re-generated.   • Update UI from an event with a thread

    Im working on a small application to try out an idea that I have. The idea is to periodically update the UI when event of some sort occurs. In the demo I've created, I'm updating a ProgressDialog every 2 seconds for 15 turns. The problem I am having, which I don't quite understand is that when an event is handled, I send a message to the handler which is supposed to update the message in the ProgressDialog. When this happens however, I get an exception which states that I can't update the UI from that thread.   • Windows Server 2008 / SQL 2008 Licensing for Authenticated Web Application

    Hello, I'm trying to crunch some numbers to see what the software costs involved are for hosting an application we are developing. Users will not be anonymous - they will need to log in. SQL Server 2008: SQL Server licensing is easy - it will be licensed per-processor. No real fuss there. The cost of CALs would be much higher for the number of users as compared to the processor licenses. Windows Server 2008: This is where it gets trickier. We need to license the OS for both the web servers (there will be a couple) plus the database servers (also a couple). The Web Servers could run on the Web Edition without a need for CALs, but if you continue reading, you will see that may not matter much because I will likely have user CALs for each user anyway. We can't use the "External Connector" for any of the Windows licenses, because that doesn't cover customers who are paying to access a hosted application. We can't use the Web Edition for the SQL Servers because that license only allows database running on Web Edition to host data for the local web application (i.e. other web servers can't connect to it). So that leaves us with the "full" editions of Windows Server for the database server OS. I find this a little rediculous, and I feel as though I must be missing something, but it looks to me like I will actually need to buy a CAL for every user who signs up to use our service. I feel like I'm missing something because that means that for every user, I have to shell out $40 for a CAL. That could be one or two years' worth of revenue from each user for an inexpensive service! Is there any way to serve a web application to authenticated users without paying for individual Windows Server CALs, if the web servers and SQL servers are seperate boxes?

  • Legacy non-dpi-aware application resolution scaling?

    Our environment prominently featuers an outdated but absolutely mission-critical Win32 application that is not dpi-aware. It is optimized for an 800x600 display. Most of our users now have 17"-20" displays with native resolutions ranging from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050. However, they still operate these displays at 800x600 because the text in this legacy application is otherwise too small. Of course, it also means that nothing quite fits on the screen in Office 2007. Most of our workstations still run Windows XP, but some are on Windows 7 and there are more to come. About one-third of our users run the app remotely via MS Terminal Services, and the remainder run it locally. Is anyone aware of any method that could be used to scale this specific application to about 170%, so that it would fill a 1280x1024 screen, without affecting other applications that work best at the display's native resolution? I know how to do this in Mac OS X, but I have never found a way to do it in Windows. Of course, this ideally would be something that we could push out via Group Policy. I suppose we even could create a custom MSI package to re-deploy the legacy application with some sort of display virtualization layer, if such a thing exists.

    I am running SQL Server 2008 Express Edition on Windows Server 2008 with an ASP.NET application which must access the server. The ASP.NET application is associated with an application pool that runs on the NetworkService account. This account in turn has a Login and User record on SQL Server in the required database. When I attempt to run the ASP.NET website I get a blank page and when viewed in the error log, I seem to be getting this information event record: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database. [CLIENT: myLocalMachine] The connection string has Trusted_Connection=True; and the required database specified. When I explicitly specify the user name and password I get another login error stating the password is incorrect, even though the same un/pw combination works through SQL Server Management studio. The NETWORK SERVICE account seems to have all the required privileges for the database. Also, I made a test ASP.NET website project which does a simple select from a table in that database, and using the same config file I am not getting the error and it seems to work. Is it something to do with trust levels then, because the original ASP.NET web app references various DLLs including open source libraries. Also, the application does not seem to be able to write to the event log itself, throwing a security exception, even though everything in the config files, including machine.config states the app is in full trust.

    I have an application running on our local server and it works perfect. However when I deploy my application to our client's server there are problems. If i copy all the sources to another local from their server, it works fine again.... I am talking about an ASP.NET application talking with windows server 2008. The server specs of our client are: intel Xeon 2.13 GHz 6 GB RAM 300 GB HDD windows server 2008 R2 Although I think it's not that important I will describe the problems I am talking about to give u a better idea: It is related to upating and deleting fields in the sql server. Whenever there is more than one user running the application, and updates or deletes (not even the same record!0, there seems to be fields updating/deleting wrongly. But as I said before, if we copy the source to another server it is not the case. So I assumed it is more configuration related. Do you guys have any idea what the issue could be?   • What is optimal hardware configuration for heavy load LAMP application

    I need to run Linux-Apache-PHP-MySQL application (Moodle e-learning platform) for a large number of concurrent users - I am aiming 5000 users. By concurrent I mean that 5000 people should be able to work with the application at the same time. "Work" means not only do database reads but writes as well. The application is not very typical, since it is doing a lot of inserts/updates on the database, so caching techniques are not helping to much. We are using InnoDB storage engine. In addition application is not written with performance in mind. For instance one Apache thread usually occupies about 30-50 MB of RAM. I would be greatful for information what hardware is needed to build scalable configuration that is able to handle this kind of load. We are using right now two HP DLG 380 with two 4 core processors which are able to handle much lower load (typically 300-500 concurrent users). Is it reasonable to invest in this kind of boxes and build cluster using them or is it better to go with some more high-end hardware? I am particularly curious how many and how powerful servers are needed (number of processors/cores, size of RAM) what network equipment should be used (what kind of switches, network cards) any other hardware, like particular disc storage solutions, etc, that are needed Another thing is how to put together everything, that is what is the most optimal architecture. Clustering with MySQL is rather hard (people are complaining about MySQL Cluster, even here on Stackoverflow).

    I have a Grails web application (just a standard war file) deployed on a Ubuntu 10.10 server running on tomcat 6. My database is postgresql. The problem is that every so often (once or twice a day after inactivity) when I try to log into this web application it just freezes. I can navigate to the login page but when I try and login (first time the DB is hit, might be a clue..?) the application just freezes indefinitely, no 500 response code... the browser just waits and waits. I followed the instructions detailed here because the problem described sounded the same as mine. My GC logging showed no long running GC, all sub sec. When the application freezes a jmap heap output is... using parallel threads in the new generation. using thread-local object allocation. With this configuration domain.com/intranet works correctly and we can access to intranet, but we have one problem when from domain.com/intranet we need to use another internal application that is called from intranet with absolute path ( https://192.168.10.25/application/) and from internet appears that try to access with internal ip, and this link es incorrect from external site We only need to access from intranet to multiple internal application that are in external server and we like to restrict to minimal access from internet. All the application that are in the smae server of intranet are working. The second problem is with https and reverse proxy in our firewall appears some errors with packets (not valid packets), and with https seems to work. What can I do to solve this problems (absolute path and ssl problem) Thanks

  • SDL - Getting a single keypress event instead of a keystate?

    Right now I'm working on a simple SDL project, but I've hit an issue when trying to get a single keypress event to skip past a splash screen. Right now, there are 4 start-up splash screens that I would like to be able to skip with a single keypress (of any key). My issue is that, as of now, if I hold down a key, it skips through each splash screen to the very last one immediately. The splash screens are stored as an array of SDL surfaces which are all loaded at the initialization of the state. I have an variable called currentSplashImage that controls which element of the array is being rendered on the screen. I've set it up so that whenever there's a SDL_KEYDOWN event, it triggers a single incrementation of the currentSplashImage variable. So, I'm really not sure why my code isn't working correctly. For some reason, when I hold down a button, it seems to be treating the held button as a new key press event every time it ticks through the code. Does anyone know how I can go about fixing this issue? [Here's a snippet of code that I've been using...] void SplashScreenState::handleEvents() { SDL_PollEvent( &localEvent ); if ( localEvent.type == SDL_KEYDOWN ) { if ( currentSplashImage < 3 && currentSplashImage >= 0) { currentSplashImage++; } } else if ( localEvent.type == SDL_QUIT ) { smgaEngine.setRunning(false); } } I should also mention that the SDL_Event 'localEvent' is part of the GameState parent class, while this event handling code is part of a SplashScreenState subclass. UPDATE: I added a std::cout line to that the code runs multiple times with a single KEYDOWN event.   • Problem using ‘useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy’ & supportedRuntime in an application

    Hello, I've modified a couple of different applications' .config file like this: <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true"> <supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/> </startup> When I did this for devenv.exe.config (VS 2005 - don't ask :) ), things work great - most of the Visual Studio used .NET 2.0 but I was able to make use of an assembly targeting .NET 4.0 framework. I tried to do the same thing for a custom .exe, which happens to be based on MS CAB (slightly modified) and has a hybrid mix of WPF and WinForms content. As soon as I modified this application's app config file, I started getting this exception, sometime during application startup: The Undo operation encountered a context that is different from what was applied in the corresponding Set operation. The possible cause is that a context was Set on the thread and not reverted(undone). System.InvalidOperationException: The Undo operation encountered a context that is different from what was applied in the corresponding Set operation. There's a big long stack trace that doesn't show anything in my application code directly (just a bunch of MS assemblies). If I modify the application's .config file to this: <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true"> </startup> i.e.I remove the supportedRuntime element, then the application doesn't throw this exception. But when I go to the point in my code where I try to load my .NET 4 assembly, if fails with this: System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly '' or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded. I guess this is expected. I have two questions: 1) Any idea why I'm getting the System.InvalidOperationException exception when I modify this application's configuration file to include the supportedRuntime element, adding .NET 4 support and any suggestions on what I can do about it? 2) If the answer is "no idea why/don't know what you can do about it", then is possible for my .NET 3.5 SP1 code (C#) to provide more fine grain support for conditionally adding .NET 4 runtime support for a certain assembly(ies) without converting my entire application to target .NET 4, or without using the declarative config file approach? At some point I would convert the entire application to target .NET 4, but for the short term this is daunting task and I'm hope for some short term solution/hack.
