• Why is my router not routing?

- by dwj
Starting a week and half ago my router stopped working with my cable modem. I went to sleep with it working and woke up with it not. I swapped in another router and am still having issues; I was gone for 10 days so now I'm back to trying to figure it out. While I was gone I left everything (cable modem, router, and computer) powered off. My setup: Comcast Ambit cable modem (from Comcast) Netgear WGR614 v4 router -- replaced with Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 Windows XP SP3 other computers, all currently unplugged The modem is using the firmware (ver 2.105.2001) provided by Comcast; hardware version 1.3 The Linksys router is using FW ver 4.71.4 (latest for this release of HW), factory defaults I am only using the wired connections; no wireless. I have swapped out all of the cat5 cable. If I plug my computer directly into the cable modem, I can ping by name or number. Everything works perfectly. If I plug my computer into the router and the router into the modem, I cannot access anything outside of my local network. This is the exact setup I've used for the past 5 years; there were no changes in the past year. Now here's the interesting part: I can log into the Linksys router and get status information from it; everything appears good. Using the Diagnostics, I can run ping and traceroute to any site on the internet. These work perfectly. From my computer, I can ping the router and the modem. However, I cannot ping anything on the internet by with name or number. If I plug in another computer, I can ping it successfully. I've included two transcripts below that show these two attempts. Addresses, DNS, gateways, etc. look good. I cannot access the internet through either router. I am at a loss here. Suggestions? Help! • Mac Server bizzare routing table

- by The Unix Janitor
My mac routing table usually is very simple. I know it's based on bsd , but what's it doing or trying to do. My routing table is usually very simple however, the second one, default was point to link5 ? Is this normal, or is this IPV6 craziness at work? Can somehelp me understand what OSX/BSD is doing? nternet: Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Expire default 192.168.1.254 UGSc 22 0 en1 127 127.0.0.1 UCS 0 0 lo0 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 4 44102 • how to fight back attacks on my web service

- by user12145
My apache webservice is getting a large quantity of requests over the days, each one with somewhat random login to gain access. I identified about 60 such ips(a few sample below), all belong to google. is there a way to find more information about the origin of the attacker? or should I just block these ips. secondly, should I attempt to block the identified ips subnets(74.125.46.*) as a preventive measure? 72.14.194.65 64.233.172.20 74.125.75.19 72.14.194.33 74.125.46.87 74.125.44.91 74.125.46.91

• Best practice to hide/encrypt email adress in webpage

- by Sebi
I couldn't find a similar question, that's why here it is: Whats the best way to hide or encrypt an email link in a website, so that a crawler can't read it, but the user can nevertheless click it? I don't want to conufse the users by typing the email like this: john (at) mail.com or similar ways. (and i think this kind of links can nevertheless read by crawlers?) I also tried things like that: but i heard this can also be read by crawler and it isn't really good practices are ther any common approaches?

• VMware Server Host-Only Network Routing

- by Chris
I have a windows 2008 web server machine running VMware server. I have 3 VM's - All 3 are test servers so security isn't really a concern... each of them running windows 2008 standard and some of them serving web content. My ISP only allows one MAC address to access the physical switch, however they give me 10 public IP addresses to use. My question is, if I put each VM on their own Host only network, how can I route all traffic from a specific public IP on the host, to the corresponding host only adapter, therefore routing to the specific VM? For example: A single physical Adapter on the Host has the following public IP's assigned to it in windows networking: 74.208.14.10 74.208.14.20 74.208.14.30 Each VM is on a host-only network vm1 - 192.168.196.1 vm2 - 192.168.197.1 vm3 - 192.168.198.1 On the host, I want to route all traffic from 74.208.14.10 to VM1 and 74.208.14.20 to VM2 and 74.208.14.30 to vm3 without using VMware NAT, or bridged connections. I want each server to appear to have its own public IP address. My guess is i can modify the route tables somehow, or perhaps in ICS...but i'm not sure how.

• Exim, hot to route local mail to other adress

- by kheraud
I have setuped an Exim4 server on my debian wheezy server. This mail server only sends mail coming from localhost. The purpose is sending mail for my website. I have cron tasks and other services generating mails for root user. These mails are not stored in /var/mail as before, but sent by exim to [email protected]. I try to make exim send mails for root to [email protected] rather than [email protected]. I tried adding a .forward in /root with [email protected] as content. I tried also changing /etc/aliases with root: [email protected]. The fact is that routing works for root@localhost but not for root which is resolved as [email protected] I tested how routing is resolved with exim -bt : root@srv02:~# exim -bt root@localhost R: system_aliases for root@localhost R: dnslookup for [email protected] [email protected] <-- root@localhost router = dnslookup, transport = remote_smtp host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [173.194.67.27] MX=5 host alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [74.125.143.27] MX=10 host alt2.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [74.125.25.27] MX=20 host alt3.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [173.194.64.27] MX=30 host alt4.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [74.125.142.27] MX=40 root@srv02:~# exim -bt root R: dnslookup for [email protected] [email protected] router = dnslookup, transport = remote_smtp host aspmx.l.google.com [173.194.78.27] MX=1 host alt1.aspmx.l.google.com [74.125.143.27] MX=5 host alt2.aspmx.l.google.com [74.125.25.27] MX=5 host alt4.aspmx.l.google.com [74.125.142.27] MX=10 host alt3.aspmx.l.google.com [173.194.64.27] MX=10 I bet this is a matter of how my server is configured (rather than how exim is configured). But to understand well I would like to have a solution for both : how to have root resolved as root@localhost ? how to have [email protected] routed to [email protected] ?

• (Python) Converting a dictionary to a list?

- by Daria Egelhoff
So I have this dictionary: ScoreDict = {"Blue": {'R1': 89, 'R2': 80}, "Brown": {'R1': 61, 'R2': 77}, "Purple": {'R1': 60, 'R2': 98}, "Green": {'R1': 74, 'R2': 91}, "Red": {'R1': 87, 'Lon': 74}} Is there any way how I can convert this dictionary into a list like this: ScoreList = [['Blue', 89, 80], ['Brown', 61, 77], ['Purple', 60, 98], ['Green', 74, 91], ['Red', 87, 74]] I'm not too familiar with dictionaries, so I really need some help here. Thanks in advance!

• Match over multiple lines perl regular expression

Hi, I have a file like this: 01 00 01 14 c0 00 01 10 01 00 00 16 00 00 00 64 00 00 00 65 00 00 01 07 40 00 00 22 68 61 6c 2e 6f 70 65 6e 65 74 2e 63 6f 6d 3b 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 32 3b 30 00 00 00 00 01 08 40 00 00 1e 68 61 6c 2e 6f 70 65 6e 65 74 2d 74 65 6c 65 63 6f 6d 2e 6c 61 6e 00 00 00 00 01 28 40 00 00 21 72 65 61 6c 6d 31 2e 6f 70 65 6e 65 74 2d 74 65 6c 65 63 6f 6d 2e 6c 61 6e 00 00 00 00 00 01 25 40 00 00 1e 68 61 6c 2e 6f 70 65 6e 65 74 2d 74 65 6c 65 63 6f 6d 2e 6c 61 6e 00 00 00 00 01 1b 40 00 00 20 72 65 61 6c 6d 2e 6f 70 65 6e 65 74 2d 74 65 6c 65 63 6f 6d 2e 6c 61 6e 00 00 01 02 40 00 00 0c 01 00 00 16 00 00 01 a0 40 00 00 0c 00 00 00 01 00 00 01 9f 40 00 00 0c 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 16 40 00 00 0c 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 bb 40 00 00 28 00 00 01 c2 40 00 00 0c 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 bc 40 00 00 13 31 39 37 37 31 31 31 32 32 33 31 00 I am reading the file and then finding certain octets and replacing them with tags: while(<FH>){ $line =~ s/(00 00 00 64)/<incr4> /g; $line =~ s/(00 00 00 65)/<incr4> /g; $line =~ s/(30 30 30 30 30 32)/<incr6ascii:999999:0>/g; $line =~ s/(31 31 32 32 33 31)/<incr6ascii:999999:0>/g; print OUTPUT $line; # } So for example, 00 00 00 64 would be replaced by the tag. This was working fine, but it doesn't seem to able to match over multiple lines any more. For example the pattern 31 31 32 32 33 31 runs over multiple lines, and the regular expression doesn't seem to catch it. I tried using /m /s pattern modifiers to ignore new lines but they didn't match it either. The only way around it I can come up with, is to read the whole file into a string using: undef $/; my $whole_file = <FH>; my $line = $whole_file; $line =~ s/(00 00 00 64)/<incr4> /g; $line =~ s/(00 00 00 65)/<incr4> /g; $line =~ s/(30 30 30 30 30 32)/<incr6ascii:999999:0>/g; $line =~ s/(31 31 32 32 33 31)/<incr6ascii:999999:0>/g; print OUTPUT $line; This works, the tags get inserted correctly, but the structure of the file is radically altered. It is all dumped out on a single line. I would like to retain the structure of the file as it appears here. Any ideas as to how I might do this? /john

• Confusion for mime files: magic, magic.mgc, magic.mime

- by Florence Foo
I'm using Ubuntu. I'm trying to use ruby gem 'shared-mime-info' for an application I'm writing. I understand that magic.mgc is a compiled version of magic file which has magic number definitions for the different file types. BUT I don't understand why is it /usr/share/mime/magic is in binary format instead of just normal text file with each parameters separated by white space like everywhere else I'm finding on the internet when it's referencing this file? The /usr/share/mime/magic has the word 'MIME-Magic' at the beginning of the file and prioritize the rest of the stuff like. So it doesn't look like magic.mgc at all. [100:application/vnd.scribus] >1=^@^KSCRIBUSUTF8 [90:application/vnd.stardivision.writer] >2089=^@ shared-mime-info seems to want a magic file in the binary non compiled format as above and I wanted to add definition for DOCX but how does one update or generate this file without using a hex editor? There is a reference to the magic file I found at: http://standards.freedesktop.org/shared-mime-info-spec/shared-mime-info-spec-latest.html And it mention this file is updated with update-mime-database but what if I just want to add some new entry to it. hex editor? Anyway I ended up using hexer to make a new magic file in ~/.local/share/mime/ with only the entry I wanted to add and the MIME-Magic header. Seems to work (assuming I will ever deal with docx for now). 00000000: 4d 49 4d 45 2d 4d 61 67 69 63 00 0a 5b 36 30 3a MIME-Magic..[60: 00000010: 61 70 70 6c 69 63 61 74 69 6f 6e 2f 76 6e 64 2e application/vnd. 00000020: 6f 70 65 6e 78 6d 6c 66 6f 72 6d 61 74 73 2d 6f openxmlformats-o 00000030: 66 66 69 63 65 64 6f 63 75 6d 65 6e 74 2e 77 6f fficedocument.wo 00000040: 72 64 70 72 6f 63 65 73 73 69 6e 67 6d 6c 2e 64 rdprocessingml.d 00000050: 6f 63 75 6d 65 6e 74 5d 0a 3e 30 3d 00 08 50 4b ocument].>0=..PK 00000060: 03 04 14 00 06 00 0a -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- .......---------

• Google respond differently to two identical nginx setups and 200 codes; any ideas?

- by Yuji Tomita
I'm rather confused... I have a linode.com VPS which has been cloned recently, so the settings are the same between nginx servers. One lives on a dev subdomain, one on a www. I'm trying to run a google experiment on my live server, which claims: Web server rejects utm_expid. Your server doesn't support added query arguments in URLs. My logs show on the dev server where it works: 74.125.186.32 - - [13/Sep/2012:13:33:45 -0700] "GET /product/iphone-case/?utm_expid=25706866-0 HTTP/1.1" 200 12521 "-" "Google_Analytics_Content_Experiments 74.125.186.32 - - [13/Sep/2012:13:33:45 -0700] "GET /product/iphone-case/?ab_reviews=True&utm_expid=25706866-0 HTTP/1.1" 200 14679 "-" "Google_Analytics_Content_Experiments My production server shows google making a second request. 74.125.186.41 - - [13/Sep/2012:13:34:49 -0700] "GET /product/iphone-case/?ab_reviews=on&utm_expid=25706866-1 HTTP/1.1" 200 12104 "-" "Google_Analytics_Content_Experiments 74.125.186.41 - - [13/Sep/2012:13:34:49 -0700] "GET /product/iphone-case/?utm_expid=25706866-1 HTTP/1.1" 200 12122 "-" "Google_Analytics_Content_Experiments 74.125.186.41 - - [13/Sep/2012:13:34:49 -0700] "GET /product/iphone-case/ <--- A second request for some reason. HTTP/1.1" 200 12522 "-" "Google_Analytics_Content_Experiments I'm not sure how google determines why it needs to send a second request without the querystring. The original request has clearly sent a 200 OK status response. Does anybody have any suggestions where to look next? The HTML (compared by diff) on the two pages is exactly the same.
