      The Gartner MQ report for Master Data Management of Customer Data Solutions is released and we're proud to say that Oracle is in the leaders' quadrant.  Here's a snippet from the report itself:  " “Oracle has a strong, though complex, portfolio of domain-specific MDM products that include prepackaged data models. Gartner estimates that Oracle now has over 1,500 licensed MDM customers, including 650 customers managing customer data. The MDM portfolio includes three products that address MDM of customer data solution needs: Oracle Fusion Customer Hub (FCH), Oracle CDH and Oracle Siebel UCM. These three MDM products are positioned for different segments of the market and Oracle is progressively moving all three products onto a common MDM technology platform..."   • The MDM Journey: From the Customer Perspective

    Master Data Management is more than just about a single version of  the truth or providing a 360 degree view of the customer.  It spans multiple domains ranging from customers to suppliers to products and beyond.  MDM is pivotal to providing a solid customer experience - one that results in repeat business, continued loyalty and last but not least - high customer satisfaction.  Customer experience is not only defined as accurate information about the customer for the enterprise, but also presenting the customer with the right information about products, orders, product availability, etc.   Let's take a look at a couple of customer use cases with Oracle MDM.     Oracle Master Data Management had a great showing at OOW 2012 ! Special thanks to our customers and partners for presenting with us, sharing their use cases and successes as well as co-sponsoring events.  Almost every session at the show featured a customer and the tremendous success or transformation Oracle MDM resulted in at their organization.  At the DemoGrounds, Oracle MDM saw tremendous interest with many individuals enquiring to see demos, and have their technical questions answered.  The demos provided a perfect opportunity to showcase technical enhancements as well as what features are on the horizon.The MDM customer appreciation dinner event was a smashing success as cusotmers and partners enjoyed a spectacular water view, fine dining and cocktails and one of San Francisco's finest restaurants - The Water Bar.  In a short while the planning for next year's OpenWorld will be under full swing and we can't wait to get started.  See you at OOW 2013!!

  • Understanding the Value of SOA

    Written By: Debra Lilley, ACE Director, Fusion Applications Again I want to talk from my area of expertise of Fusion Applications and talk about their design fundamentals. If you look at the table below and start at the bottom Oracle have defined all of the business objects e.g. accounts, people, customers, invoices etc. used by Fusion Applications; each of these objects contain all of the information required and can be expanded if necessary.  That Oracle have created for each of these business objects every action that is needed for the applications e.g. all the actions to create a new customer, checking to see if it exists, credit checking with D&B (Dun & Bradstreet < http://www.dnb.co.uk/> ) , creating the record, notifying those required etc. Each of these actions is a stand-alone web service. Again you can create a new actions or subscribe to an external provided web service e.g. the D&B check. The diagram also shows that all of development of Fusion Applications is from their Fusion Middleware offerings. Then the Intelligent Business Process is the order in which you run these actions, this is Service Orientated Architecture, SOA. Not only is SOA used to orchestrate actions within Fusion Applications it is also used in the integration of Fusion Applications with the rest of the Oracle stable of applications such as EBS, PeopleSoft, JDE and Siebel. The other applications are written with propriety development tools so how do they work with SOA? It’s a very simple answer, with the introduction of the Oracle SOA platform each process within these applications was made available to be called as a web service. I won’t go into technically how that is done but what’s known as a wrapper to allow each of them to act in this way was added. Finally at the top of the diagram are the questions that each Fusion Application process must answer, and this is the ‘special’ sauce that makes them so good, the User Experience, but that is a topic for another day, or you can read about it in my blog http://debrasoracle.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/going-on-record-about-fusion-apps-cloud.html or Oracle’s own UX blog https://blogs.oracle.com/usableapps/ The concept behind AppAdvantage is not new the idea that Oracle technology can add value to your Oracle applications investments is pretty fundamental. Nishit Rao who is in AppAdvantage team provided myself and other ACE Directors with demo kits so that we could demonstrate SOA running with the applications. The example I learnt to build was that of the EBS inventory open interface. The simple concept is that request records can be added to a table and an import run that creates these as transactions in inventory. What’s SOA allows you to do is to add to the table from any source and then run this process automatically whereas traditionally you had to run the process at regular intervals because you didn’t know if the table was empty or not. This may just sound like a different way of doing the same thing but if the process is critical for your business then the interval was very small and the process run potentially many times unnecessarily. Using SOA it only happened when necessary without any delay.   • Master Data Management - The Trend Towards Multi-Domain and Other Realities

    In my quest to keep my fingers on the pulse of MDM, I recently found a pretty interesting article.  The article was published in Information Week and provides some interesting statistics from a recent survey conducted by the analyst firm, The Information Difference.  Let's take a look: Of the 130 organizations surveyed, 53% have live operational MDM implementations 81% of those with live operational MDM implementations report broad success - a huge improvement over 2011's 54% 64% developed a business case prior to their MDM deployment, while a daring 32% went ahead without a business case.    The article goes on to talk about the shift in vendors from focusing on customer data and product information management to one that is oriented around multi-domain master data management as well as other realities around MDM.  Take a look at the article.   • Buying a parked domain if the contact email bounces

    I'm trying to buy a domain which is parked, but the contact email address listed on the page itself bounces. I looked up the WHOIS data and there are no email addresses or phone numbers listed. There are way too many hits on facebook / linkedin to try just searching for the name. What recourses do I have to try to get into contact with the owner? UPDATE: Hosted on the same IP are 206 identical "parked" pages, whose sole difference is the domain and the email address (always "info@[domain].it"): http://www.bing.com/search?q=ip%3A151.1.48.220 Whois info shows contact information for none (that I sampled) but all with different names o_O

  • cookie not being sent when requesting JS

    I host a webservice, and provide my members with a Javascript bookmarklet, which loads a JS sript from my server. However, clients must be logged in, in order to receive the JS script. This works for almost everybody. However, some users on setups (i.e. browser/OS) that are known to work for other people have the following problem: when they request the script via the javascript bookmarklet from my server, their cookie from my server does not get included with the request, and as such they are always "not authenticated". I'm making the request in the following way: var myScript = eltCreate('script'); myScript.setAttribute('src','http://myserver.com/script'); document.body.appendChild(myScript); In a fit of confused desperation, I changed the script page to simply output "My cookie has [x] elements" where [x] is count($_COOKIE). If this extremely small subset of users requests the script via the normal method, the message reads "My cookie has 0 elements". When they access the URL directly in their browser, the message reads "My cookie has 7 elements". What on earth could be going on?!

  • claws-mail suddenly does not recognize my .claws-mail folder

    Hi I turned my computer on today like any other day, and fired up my email-client claws-mail. However, instead of showing me my inbox, it just pops up the new-account wizard, as though my .claws-mail folder did not exist! I've double-checked that it's there, and that it (seems to) contain everything that it should. I tried running claws-mail from the terminal to see if it returned any useful messages about why it couldn't find my email account, but no dice... For reference, this is CM version 3.7.2 running on Gentoo kernel 2.6.31-gentoo-r6 (x86_64) Any clues as to how to get my beloved inbox/config back? Thanks!

  • Windows 7: blue faces in VLC... sometimes

    Hi There are a bunch of forum posts about this issue from the last several years but no resolution that I could find. I have the newest VLC installed on Windows 7 with the newest nvidia drivers. Suddenly, VLC plays some videos in such a way as faces are blue. When viewed in another media player, or when looking at the thumbnails, this is not an issue. Other videos are not affected. I've tried resetting VLC options, deleting the VLC folder in the AppData area, etc. I have no other color issues. Does anyone have a fix?

  • Linux clock sets itself wrong on every reboot

    Every time my computer (Gentoo linux) reboots the clock is several hours off: /etc/localtime is set for the correct timezone /etc/conf.d/clock lists the correct timezone running sntp -r 0.gentoo.pool.ntp.org fixes the problem... until reboot setting the time manually using date also fixes the problem... until reboot The System clock is set to UTC This is starting to drive me nuts :(

  • NetworkManager will not allow me to select WPA

    Hi I have a fresh install of Crunchbang (basically Ubuntu with Openbox instead of Gnome). In any case, I can't connect to my WPA network - when I click on it in the nm-applet and it asks me to authenticate my only options are: WEP 10/128-bit key WEP 128-bit Passphrase LEAP Dynamic WEP (802.1x) wpa_supplicant is indeed installed, yet WPA does not get listed... any ideas?

  • What is it that kills laptop batteries?

    There are many superstitions on what you must never do lest your battery become worthless - and by worthless I mean hold about 16 - 24 seconds of charge. This has happened to every laptop I have ever owned, and I just got a new one, so please help me sort out fact from fiction. Here are some of the things I've heard: Do not keep your laptop fully charged. You must run it completely down every so often. Do not use your laptop plugged in to the wall. Only plug it in when it needs charge. If you will not be using your laptop for a long period of time, don't leave it at full charge. Do not leave your laptop running 24/7. The first two I know to be complete fiction: this was true of old batteries such as you might have had in an iPod in 2003, but modern batteries function better when kept at or near full charge. Devices even have circuitry to prevent you from completely depleting your battery, as this is dangerous. The third point sounds probable, and I'd be interested to know if it was true. However, it doesn't really apply to me because I'm not really the type to leave my laptop alone for a day, much less a "long period of time" The fourth seems most likely of the above, but only because of causality: I have always done this, and my batteries have always crapped out on me. I've generally treated a laptop like a desktop with a battery backup, and that I can move from one room to another if necessary. The fact that my batteries tend to last less than 30 seconds has further entrenched this behavior. Should I be trying to break this habit? Are there any other things that ruin laptop batteries? I love that I can actually use my new laptop unplugged :) I'd like to keep it that way. Update: Additional question: If the computer will be used for an extended period of time plugged in, does it make sense to remove the battery first? Update 2: I know people with laptops older than mine, who actively use their laptops as much as I do, and their batteries still hold about an hours' charge while mine holds less than 30 seconds, hence my belief that something I'm doing kills them.

    Tunneling data over ssh is pretty straight-forward: ssh -D9999 [email protected] sets up port 9999 on your localhost as a tunnel to foreignhost.com, but I have more specific need: I am working locally on localhost host1 is accessible to localhost host2 only accepts connections from host1 I need to create a tunnel from localhost to host2 Effectively I want to create a "multi-hop" ssh tunnel. How can I do this? Ideally, I'd like to do this without needing to be superuser on any of the machines.

    Hi I'm looking for what is effectively a wireless usb hub, but where the "hubbing" part takes place on the computer-side. In other words, something like this: http://www.iogear.com/product/GUWH104KIT/ Except rather than all four "terminating" slots being connected, having 4 small "wireless terminals" so that the devices can be placed all over a room instead of all within reach of the wireless usb hub Does such a product exist?   • Hue shift on youtube.com (but not when embedded!)

    This is easily the oddest problem I've yet had. When I'm on youtube, and I look at a video, the hue is all wrong. Pure red becomes pure blue, and all the other colors shift accordingly. Faces in particular are shades of blue so I call this "avatar mode". Avatar mode happens on any video I view while on youtube.com. BUT, if I view the same video when embedded, colors are fine! EDIT: OS: Gentoo Linux, happens in all browsers
