  Three of our SQL databases have their recovery model change every night from FULL to SIMPLE. The only jobs that I'm aware of are two BackupExec jobs that run nightly. • Software for reading PDF ebooks?

  I have a bunch of PDF ebooks ... while I know that traditional PDF readers (Acrobat, Preview) can be used to read them, I wonder if there are ebook software specifically tailored for long starring at the computer screen? Like white-on-black (night reading)? Is there any? Preferably a software that runs on MacOSX. If not, then Windows would be nice too.

  I tried downloading several videos last night on Chrome but most of them are downloaded incompletely. Is there a software that reads the flv or ogg files and downloads the rest of the file from the specified url? Downloading several GBs all over again gains me nothing, just adds to Global warming. Also, what is a good download manager for Ubuntu. How can I have it take over some bulk downloads from Chrome?

• iTunes contact sync issue

  Last night when I sync my contacts to my iPhone, it wiped 95% of my contacts on my iPhone :( I have tried to re-sync many times but no joy. I've even exported all my contacts into Windows Contacts (im using Vista), then tried to re-sync in iTunes using that. Note: I have the lastest iTunes and iPhone updates. Many thanks! Tony.

  I run a program called Registry Mechanic, every night. Every single time, it picks up like 8 Microsoft Antimalware entries, which it identifies as the highest kind of security threats. I feel like Registry Mechanic is a good software--it was recommended to me at #computerhelp on irc.undernet.org, a long time ago, by an op that never steered me wrong, otherwise--, so I feel like I should give the issue due attention. The entries are: 4x "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft Antimalware" and 4x "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft Antimalware\setup\RememberedProperties"

• ASP.NET web application can't find an assembly

  I deployed an ASP.NET web application last night and I when I woke up this morning it was very slow and would occasionally just throw a 'Service Unavailable' error. I checked the Event Viewer and it was filled up with these errors: I'm puzzled as it was working perfectly when I deployed it (MonoTorrent is required to retrieve the number of seeders/leechers for a certain torrent off the tracker - this was working fine), but it's no longer working and whenever code that uses MonoTorrent gets involved, the worker process just crashes. MonoTorrent.dll is in the /bin/ directory.

  I currently use phpMyAdmin 3.2.4 to monitor and manage the membership numbers for my organization members website. Not to long ago the member numbers jumped from 750 to 1,000,000 just over night? • When did my Mac's HD last sleep?

  Is there any app or log that says when my MacBook Pro's hard drive last went into sleep mode? I ask because each night when I close the MBP's lid without being plugged into a power source, the power light goes into its snooze rhythm but the battery is half-drained by the next morning. It certainly looks like it is asleep, but the power drain seems to indicate otherwise.

• NAS device claims drive in a RAID is degraded but S.M.A.R.T. says it is fine

  I have a Synology DS213 with two 600GB drives in RAID 1. Last night the device reported that my second drive had become degraded and that I should replace it. When I ran a extensive S.M.A.R.T. test the results said that the drive is okay. How can I confirm that the drive is actually bad? Is there any case that the degraded drive is the good one and that it is actually the other drive that is bad?

• Default soundcard per application in Vista?

  I use a USB headset during the day, then at night I use my speakers to watch video. I constantly have to use the windows playback list to change the default soundcard before I run the program I want. I did some google research but it doesn't seem to help much, mostly because of false positives. I tried to use "Sound Card Manager" but it didn't seem to work properly.   I recently installed the latest drivers and my screen backlight turned off. The problem is that my Fn-F7 key combination doesn't work, so I can't turn it back on. I can see my screen at night if I hold a source of light next to the screen. So I can still do some trivial things with my laptop. Is there a way to turn the backlight on without using Fn-F7 key combination, either via the command line, or some other way?

• LTSP keeping sessions active whilst turning off thin clients

  I'm using LTSP on a Ubuntu 10.04 64bit box with 8 thin clients. I would like to save power by automatically turning off the thin clients at night, but I would like to have the ability to resume the staff's session in the morning. Is it possible to keep a session running whilst turning off the LTSP thin client and resuming that session when you power up the thin client the next time? Could this work if you login to another thin client in the morning and resume your session?

When I try to put the files on an external hard drive it says that they are too large to transfer (each file is about 8 gigs). Just trying to figure out the best way to do this transfer.   Fn + F6 - backlight turns off immediately, image stays (visible if shine something at the display) xset dpms force {off,suspend,standby} - backlight turns off slowly, image cleared. How to programmatically just turn off backlight on Acer Extensa 5220 laptop in Linux? It should work fast and should not touch image (unlike xset method). Ideally if I could rapidly switching backlight off and on emulate lower_than_minimum brightness level (ideally - to be hardly visible (but visible) at night).

• What Triggers a syncronization between Exchange 2007 Mail Store and Edge Servers?

  We are using Exchange 2007 for our mail. In our configuration, we need to add an alias to each users mailbox. When we do, the Edge server, another Exchange 2007 box, will reject the alias with a User Unknown error until the next morning. I seem to recall that in Exchange 2003, you could force an update from the Management console, but I can not find a way in 2007. It is obvious that a sync job is scheduled to run each night, but I cannot find it.
