• flash object not working on intranet anymore?

  Not sure how or why this happened, its rather all of a sudden. This is a production app for over 6 years and this just suddenly happened. If I right click this flash object it says "Movie Not Loaded" and underneath it the version Flash Player 10.2.152.32... Any ideas ?

• HSDPA modem only working on certain USB ports

  Depending on which USB port I use to connect my HSDPA modem, the network manager will connect to the internet or not. I used to work (i.e. established a internet connection automatically) on all ports, but over time it simply stopped on some ports. lsusb output in all cases looks like that (Device ID varies depending on USB port): Bus 001 Device 009: ID 12d1:1003 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem / E270 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem Any ideas what could cause this behaviour? What can I do to fix this? ADDED One additional information about the modem: if connected via USB it will be available as as harddrive AND as a HSDPA modem (kind of a duality...). In the error case, it will only be shown as a harddrive. • Adobe flash player not working with Amazon Prime

  I have ubuntu 12.04 64bit using Google Chrome. I had chromium from the app center then today amazon prime video stopped working. It told me to update Flash. So I uninstalled chromium and installed Google Chrome. Didn't work. Then I downloaded flash for ubuntu via apt. That one gave me a "flash version isn't supported" message. The flash version was 11. Now I tried http://apt.ubuntu.com/p/flashplugin-installer It worked, but right in the middle of the video, it popped the error message again. Sorry we are unable to stream this video. This is likely because your Flash Player needs to be updated. So I don't know what happened.

• Working with Backing Beans in JDeveloper - The Right Way

  One nice feature that was in JDeveloper for a long time is the ability to automatically expose every component on your JSF page in a backing bean. While this is a nice "work saving" feature, you shouldn't be using this one in most cases. The reason is that it will create objects in your backing bean code for a lot of items you don't actually need to manipulate, making your code bigger and more complex to maintain. The right way of working is to expose only components you need in your backing bean - and JDeveloper makes this just as easy through the binding property in the property inspector and the edit option it has. • Working with Visual Studio Web Development Server and IE6 in XP Mode on Windows 7

  (Brian Reiter from  thoughtful computing has described this setup in this StackOverflow thread. The credit for the idea is entirely his, I have just extended it with some step by step descriptions and added some links and screenhots.)   If you are forced  to still support Internet Explorer 6, you can setup following combination on your machine to make the development for it less painful. A common problem if you are developing on Windows 7 is that you can’t install IE6 on your machine. (Not that you want that anyway). So you will probably end up working locally with IE8 and FF, and test your IE6 compatibility on a separate machine. This can get quite annoying, because you will have to maintain two different development environments, not have all the tools available, etc.   You can help yourself by installing IE6 in a Windows 7 XP Mode, which is basically just an Windows XP running in a virtual machine.   [1] Windows XP Mode installation   After you have installed and configured your XP mode (remember the security settings like Windows Update and antivirus software), you can add the shortcut to the IE6 in the virtual machine to the “all users” start menu. This shortcut will be replicated to your windows 7 XP mode start menu, and you will be able to seamlessly start your IE 6 as a normal window on your Windows 7 desktop.   [2] Configure IE6 for the Windows 7 installation   If you configure your XP – Mode to use (Shared Networking)  NAT, you can now use IE6 to browse the sites in the internet. (add proxy settings to IE6 if necessary)                       The problem now is that you can’t connect to the webdev server which is running on your local machine. This is because web development server is crippled to allow only local connections for security reasons.   In order to trick webdev in believing that the requests are coming from local machine itself you can use a light weight proxy like privoxy on your host (windows 7) machine and configure the IE6 running in the virtual host.   The first step is to make the host machine (running windows 7) reachable from the virtual machine (running XP). In order to do that, you can install the loopback adapter, and configure it to use an IP which is routable from the virtual machine. In example screenshot (192.168.1.66).   [3] How to install loopback adapter in Windows 7   After installation you can assign a static IP which is routable from the virtual machine (in example 192.168.1.66)                     The next step is to configure privoxy to listen on that IP address (using some not used port, in example, the default port 8118)   Change following line in config.txt:   # #      Suppose you are running Privoxy on an IPv6-capable machine and #      you want it to listen on the IPv6 address of the loopback device: # #        listen-address [::1]:8118 # # listen-address  192.168.1.66:8118   The last step is to configure the IE6 to use Privoxy which is running on your Windows 7 host machine as proxy for all addresses (including localhost)                             And now you can use your Windows7 XP Mode IE6 to connect to your Visual Studio’s webdev web server.                         [4] http://stackoverflow.com/questions/683151/connect-remotely-to-webdev-webserver-exe

• Working with Reporting Services Filters–Part 1

  There are two ways that you can filter data in Reporting Services. The first way, which usually provides a faster performance, is to use query parameters to apply a filter using the WHERE clause in a SQL statement. In that case, the structure of the filter depends upon the syntax recognized by the source database. Another way to filter data in Reporting Services is to apply a filter to a dataset, data region, or a group. Using this latter method, you can even apply multiple filters. However, the use of filter operators or the setup of multiple filters is not always obvious, so in this series of posts, I'll provide some more information about the configuration of filters. First, why not use query parameters exclusively for filtering? Here are a few reasons: You might want to apply a filter to part of the report, but not all of the report. Your dataset might retrieve data from a stored procedure, and doesn't allow you to pass a query parameter for filtering purposes. Your report might be set up as a snapshot on the report server and, in that case, cannot be dynamically filtered based on a query parameter. Next, let's look at how to set up a report filter in general. The process is the same whether you are applying the filter to a dataset, data region, or a group. When you go to the Filters page in the Properties dialog box for whichever of these items you selected (dataset, data region, group), you click the Add button to create a new filter. The interface looks like this: The Expression field is usually a field in the dataset, so to make it easier for you to make a selection,the drop-down list displays all of the current dataset fields. But notice the expression button to the right, which means that you can set up any type of expression-not just a dataset field. To the right of the expression button, you'll find a data type drop-down list. It's important to specify the correct data type for the field or expression you're using. Now for the operators. Here's a list of the options that you have: This Operator Performs This Action =, <>, >, >=, <, <=, Like Compares expression to value Top N, Bottom N Compares expression to Top (Bottom) set of N values (N = integer) Top %, Bottom % Compares expression to Top (Bottom) N percent of values (N = integer or float) Between Determines whether expression is between two values, inclusive In Determines whether expression is found in list of values Last, the Value is what you're comparing to the expression using the operator. The construction of a filter using some operators (=, <>, >, etc.) is fairly simple. If my dataset (for AdventureWorks data) has a Category field, and I have a parameter that prompts the user for a single category, I can set up a filter like this: Expression Data Type Operator Value [Category] Text = [@Category] But if I set the parameter to accept multiple values, I need to change the operator from = to In, just as I would have to do if I were using a query parameter. The parameter expression, [@Category], which translates to =Parameters!Category.Value, doesn’t need to change because it represents an array as soon as I change the parameter to allow multiple values. The “In” operator requires an array. With that in mind, let’s consider a variation on Value. Let’s say that I have a parameter that prompts the user for a particular year – and for simplicity’s sake, this parameter only allows a single value, and I have an expression that evaluates the previous year based on the user’s selection. Then I want to use these two values in two separate filters with an OR condition. That is, I want to filter either by the year selected OR by the year that was computed. If I create two filters, one for each year (as shown below), then the report will only display results if BOTH filter conditions are met – which would never be true. Expression Data Type Operator Value [CalendarYear] Integer = [@Year] [CalendarYear] Integer = =Parameters!Year.Value-1 To handle this scenario, we need to create a single filter that uses the “In” operator, and then set up the Value expression as an array. To create an array, we use the Split function after creating a string that concatenates the two values (highlighted in yellow) as shown below. Expression Data Type Operator Value =Cstr(Fields!CalendarYear.Value) Text In =Split( CStr(Parameters!Year.Value) + ”,” + CStr(Parameters!Year.Value-1) , “,”) Note that in this case, I had to apply a string conversion on the year integer so that I could concatenate the parameter selection with the calculated year. Pay attention to the second argument of the Split function—you must use a comma delimiter for the result to work correctly with the In operator. I also had to change the Expression value from [CalendarYear] (or =Fields!CalendarYear.Value) so that the expression would return a string that I could compare with the values in the string array. • Wifi won't enter working net after hard reboot

  I rebooted the hard way after my system jammed again because FF eats all the ram. (that's a different problem) I've always gotten away with it, but not this time. The system came up ok BUT it absolutely refuses to log onto the local house wifi net. I know the net is ok as the Windows box I'm writing this on is on it right now. I deleted the connection and rentered the password but it will not go on. /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state says everything is turned on. I know this is my fault but I'd really like to get back on the net. The machine is a Toshiba Satellite. Any suggestions?

• How to get Cinnamon working in Virtualbox?

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 (32-bit) in VirtualBox 4.1.8. I wanted to install Cinnamon, so I did and I have the option to choose it from the login screen, as well as GNOME options. If I choose Ubuntu I get Unity, which works fine. GNOME also works. But when I choose Cinnamon, the screen goes black and nothing responds and I have to reset the virtual machine. I have already installed Ubuntu 11.10 (64-bit) onto the PC in a separate partition (currently running 10.10 but trying out 11.10) and in that Cinnamon works perfectly. In VirtualBox I have 3D settings enabled and gave the virtual machine 128 MB graphics RAM, and 1024 MB system RAM. What settings should I change or what should I do to get Cinnamon working in Ubuntu in VirtualBox? I have also tried doing it in LinuxMint 12, but I get the same problem, just a black screen when selecting Cinnamon. So are Cinnamon and VirtualBox incompatible?

When i tried to install apt-get install rabbitvcs-nautilus3, i got the following error message : Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package rabbitvcs-nautilus3 is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source However the following packages replace it: rabbitvcs-nautilus E: Package 'rabbitvcs-nautilus3' has no installation candidate So i installed it with apt-get install rabbitvcs-nautilus, and now rabbitvcs options are not showing when i right click on a folder. Any help and suggestions will be highly appreciable. Thanks.

  Please help me someone :) My notebook has Intel core i5 3337U CPU with Intel turbo boost. Under 12.04 the turbo boost is not working properly. It's frequency maximum is 1.8Ghz but the CPU can run 2.7GHz. • Linux kernel 3.5.0-18 update is not working with NVIDIA driver 304.60

  I have Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit and a Nvidia card GT430 and installed 304.60 Linux driver manually and it worked beautifully until the latest Ubuntu update which got modified to 3.5.0-18 Kernel. Everything has gone: launcher, windows I can't move them it got USELESS. I tried to run the previous kermel 3.5.0-17 with which the driver was working well. I gto the same desktop. USeless - So the problem is something else I guess but it has to do with the update that's for sure- Any idea what to do? Now I have to switch back to Windows 7 which I don't want in order to able to work until an update will come up.

• Phusion Passenger (Apache, Sinatra) suddenly not working for a single site on my server

  I've had Phusion Passenger working for a few of my sites for months. Then, today, it stopped working for a single site. I hadn't changed anything (I hadn't even SSH'ed into the server for a week), and everything is set up the way it should for it to work. Plus, it's working fine for other sites! I'm about to pull my hair out trying to find out what's wrong, so I was hoping y'all could help. Passenger is not working on kerricklong.com -- I only get the "It works!" Apache default page. If I look at the headers, it's not even serving the X-Powered-By: Phusion Passenger (mod_rails/mod_rack) header that I get on my other (currently working) Passenger-powered sites on the same server running Ubuntu Server 10.04.   Everything in Ubuntu One sync works great except bookmark sync. • Internet stops working after heavy downloading, video/audio streaming etc

  As mentioned in title, Internet stops working on my PC after heavy downloading, video/audio streaming etc. There are no errors, no disconnections etc. Simply after some time (certain amount of data downloaded) I can't get any more. If I try using ping afterwards nothing happens. If ping is running simultaneously with streaming/downloading I get some correct responses and then it keeps showing an error. What helps is re-plugging my Pentagram USB wifi card, but I hope there is a better solution. Edit: One more thing: my friend who works in IT suggested that it might have something to do with cache (DNS cache? I don't remember him specifying) getting filled while it should be emptied automatically.

• Wireless device not working...supposed problem with b43 driver

  I just installed Xubuntu 11.10 onto an old Acer Aspire 3003wlmi. The wireless card is not working. I did all the passages illustrated in the troubleshooting guide but I came up with nothing. It says that driver is b43, but when I booted from the installation cd I noted down some messages saying "Error - b43/ucode " and "Error b43/phy_...something". I had Ubuntu 10.10 installed before and I remember I had similar problems but I don't remember how to solve it. If you please can help me. thanks a lot. Francesco

• Getting a TV Capture Card working

  I'm new to Linux, and am trying to get my Capture Card working on 11.04. The only command that I know to run to find out any information is lspci, which tells me that I have 02:00.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23885 PCI Video and Audio Decoder (rev 04) I've looked at using Me TV, but haven't worked out how to configure it for my card, or what I need to do to get it running. I'm not fussed on what software I use to run the Capture Card, but I've currently got only Me TV installed. Edit: When I run tvtime, I get the following errors: videoinput: Cannot open capture device /dev/video0: No such file or directory mixer: find error: Success mixer: Can't open mixer default, mixer volume and mute unavailable. mixer: Can't open device default/Line, mixer volume and mute unavailable. • VMWare Fusion Folder Sharing Not Working with Server

  I have a Ubuntu Server running in VMWare Fusion 3.1.2 on my MacBook Pro for Java development and all my projects sit on my Mac in ~/Workspace/ColdFusion. I had ColdFusion/ shared with my VM through the VMWare tools, and it was working perfectly up until friday when the folder sharing just stopped. No updates on either mac or linux besides an iTunes update. I tried uninstalling the VMWare tools and reinstalling them but I get an error at the end of the install. It appears that when I reinstall the tools there are files left over from the old installation. Is there a way to force the unsinstall script to completely uninstall and remove all files for the VMWare-Tools? I know the shared folder used to mount at /mnt/hgfs/ColdFusion.

• Apache Rewrites not working due to Akamai

  I have a website which is setup with akamai. My domain and subdomains are mapped onto an Akamai IP. I have written an Apache rewrite which does an internal URL X to another internal URL Y. This rewrite works fine as long as I am testing in my local setup or for those subdomains which are not mapped onto Akamai but directly onto my Public IP. My suspicion is that while rewriting the request apache is not able to resolve the IP of the app server correctly. When I add entries to my /etc/hosts file pointing the domain/subdomain to my internal IP the rewrites work. Now, I have a huge list of subdomains and it can grow as well. Is there another way to fix this problem without having to make entries in the /etc/hosts file ? I would much appreciate your thoughts.

• Compiz stop working

  I'm on a laptop sony vaio, vng-nw330f with ubuntu 11.10. One day I used my computer normally, I shutdown and the other day when I turn on it again, all was different. Compiz effects is not working at all, it doesn't matter what plugin (from ccsm) i enable or disable, nothings happens, nothings changes. I tried next commands: unity --reset unity --reset-icons sudo rm -rf .config .gnome .gnome2 .gnome2_private .compiz .icons .fonts .nautilus .themes .qt .local (from my home directory) gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1 I try reinstalling compiz (I remove compiz from software center and installed it again). I have just a couple of weeks using ubuntu, I'm not sure if exist a desktop call it unity 3d, but I think that it's missing. I want the graphics interface of ubuntu 11.10 by default.

• System monitor network speed monitor not working for LAN but works for my Wi-fi

  I'm on Ubuntu 13.10. I generally use wi-fi to connect to the internet. But Yesterday my wi-fi router occurred some problem and now it's out for warranty. So temporarily I'm using LAN. System monitor displayed the network speed correctly when I was in wi-fi. But now it's not showing any kinda network speed in System Monitor. I checked the preferences opption but couldn't find a way. I also checked "ksysguard"(KDE's system monitor) and conky. None of them working. How can i solve this? I'm attaching a screenshot to clear the problem.
