• iOS 6: UUIDString on iPhone 3GS

  I've been working on ASIdentifierManager framework to get the new UUIDString, the identifier should replace in iOS 6 the UDID, and can be stopped or not by the user for Settings. Everything is ok on simulators and iPhone 4S, but on iPhone 3GS (it's iOS 6 updated!) I'm getting as UUIDString the following: 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 This is how I'm getting it: if ([ASIdentifierManager sharedManager]) NSLog(@"%@", [[[ASIdentifierManager sharedManager] advertisingIdentifier] UUIDString]); Does anyone know why? • rearranging a list of months

  How can I list the numbers 01 to 12 (one for each of the 12 months) in such a way so that the current month always comes last where the oldest one is first. In other words, if the number is grater than the current month, it's from the previous year. e.g. 02 is Feb, 2011 (the current month right now), 03 is March, 2010 and 09 is Sep, 2010 but 01 is Jan, 2011. In this case, I'd like to have [09, 03, 01, 02]. This is what I'm doing to determine the year: for inFile in os.listdir('.'): if inFile.isdigit(): month = months[int(inFile)] if int(inFile) <= int(strftime("%m")): year = strftime("%Y") else: year = int(strftime("%Y"))-1 mnYear = month + ", " + str(year) I don't have a clue what to do next. • Updating data source on multiple pivot tables within Excel

  Is there an easy way to update the data source for multiple pivot tables on a single Excel sheet at the same time? All of the pivot tables reference the same named range, but I need to create a second worksheet that has the same pivot tables, but accessing a different named range. Ideally I would like to be able to do some kind of search and replace operation (like you can do on formulae), rather than updating each individual pivot table by hand. Any suggestions?

  The compiler complains about this code: HashMap<String,int> userName2ind = new HashMap<String,int>(); for (int i=0; i<=players.length; i++) { userName2ind.put(orderedUserNames[i],i+1); } It writes "unexpected type" and point on int. If I replace int by String and i+1 by i+"1", the compilation goes OK. What is wrong with in here?

• How to do bulk update of views?

  My database has about 30 views, most of which have a reference to another database on this server (call it DB1). Now, without going into the reasons why, I need to update all those views to DB2, also on the local server. I would hate to have to do this manually on each view. Is there some SQL query I can run that will replace all occurrences of the string 'DB1' with 'DB2' in all my views?

My question is a design one, should I save the data in SQlite or just keep it as an XML file, which one would be faster to read?   Under WindowsCE, C++ project, I'm trying to work with devices connected via both "real" serial ports and/or serial-to-usb wrappers ("virtual" serial ports); my problem is - when I try to open the port, if something goes wrong, the function never returns and the system goes into some non-responsive state and has to be eventually rebooted. I need to open the ports from the main thread. • Why doesn't functools.partial return a real function (and how to create one that does)?

  So I was playing around with currying functions in Python and one of the things that I noticed was that functools.partial returns a partial object rather than an actual function. One of the things that annoyed me about this was that if I did something along the lines of: five = partial(len, 'hello') five('something') then we get TypeError: len() takes exactly 1 argument (2 given) but what I want to happen is TypeError: five() takes no arguments (1 given) Is there a clean way to make it work like this? • In Perl, can I limit the length of a line as I read it in from a file (like fgets)

  I'm trying to write a piece of code that reads a file line by line and stores each line, up to a certain amount of input data. I want to guard against the end-user being evil and putting something like a gig of data on one line in addition to guarding against sucking in an abnormally large file. Doing $str = <FILE> will still read in a whole line, and that could be very long and blow up my memory. fgets lets me do this by letting me specify a number of bytes to read during each call and essentially letting me split one long line into my max length. Is there a similar way to do this in perl? I saw something about sv_gets but am not sure how to use it (though I only did a cursory Google search). Thanks.

• How to load an external swf to the main stage from an instanced child class?

  Hi, I am trying to get an instance of a class to the load an external swf and show it. So far I have the following: 1) I wrote a class that uses the Loader class to load an external swf "loadExtSWF". 2) I have a fla named "MainSWF.fla" that uses a document class "MainSWF.as". 3) I have the MainSWF.as file that instances "loadExtSWF" and calls loadExtSWF.startLoad to load the swf. This almost works. The instance of loadExtSWF loads the external swf, but the swf is not displayed. If I replace the fla's document class with loadExtSWF (this has an empty constructor) instead of MainSWF, and run loadExtSWF.startLoad, then the external swf is loaded and displayed. It seems that the way I initially do it, loads the swf to the wrong stage (?). Any ideas? Thanks for the help. Bye, RaamEE P.S. • Can one extract model fit parameters after a ggplot stat_smooth call?

  Using stat_smooth, I can fit models to data. E.g. g=ggplot(tips,aes(x=tip,y=as.numeric(unclass(factor(tips$sex))-1))) +facet_grid(time~.) g=g+ stat_summary(fun.y=mean,geom="point") g=g+ stat_smooth(method="glm", family="binomial") I would like to know the coefficients of the glm binomial fits. I could re-do the fit with dlply and get the coefficients with ldply, but I'd like to avoid such duplication. Calling str(g) reveals the hierarchy of objects that ggplot creates, perhaps there's some way to get to the coefficients through that?
