• Any command line tool checking windows domain password?

  Does Windows provide a command line utility that lets me check a domain user's password? It is sufficient that the utility returns success(0) if I provide a matching domain user name and password. Alternatively, is there a simple VB/JS script that can do this? I'm the Intranet admin of my company and have the default password set for corporate staff, so I'd like to quickly scan which users have not changed their default password. Better yet, are there any books or websites which cover such topics so that I can get more information?

  Hello Experts, I installed Flash media server 3.5 in windows 7 home basic.it installed properly. When i try to open the media server,and not showing in its FMS ADMIN CONSOLE there. I have beeen checking the windows services, it shows flash media server is running.i have installed FMS in Default port (1935,1111).i have MCAFEE Antivirus.1st time it blocks the My FMs then i Allowed it & after that there is no issue.i am not getting what is the problem,is anything blocking the FMS.Even I am not able to start/see the control panel of FMS (Flash media server). I am guessing it is a port problem,Is it or any firewall issue?Please Suggest.

  I recieve the following error when I try to configure SharePoint 2010 Server: "Cannot connect to the database master at SQL server at [computer.domain]. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it." • Issues with Rsync on a NAS

  I'm trying to rsync a few external hard drives over to my new Nas DS412+ but I'm noticing it's stupid slow. I'm trying it via mounting the backup folder via afb on a Mac. I was told this may be the wrong way to do it. I recently just turned on "network backup" on the Synology and am now running rsync over ssh like: rsync -ar --progress . admin@localip:/backup/path Is this the right way to do it now? Will it be faster? Is there something else I can do to make it faster? Edit: I'm getting a ton of: "failed to set permissions" "failed to set times" now that I run it. What do I do?

  I know telnet is insecure and all, but I'm stuck using it because ssh is blocked. I know how to setup ssh to bind the connection to a local port, is there a way to do this with telnet? For example, if I am using an ssh connection, I would bind it to port 999 like this: ssh -D 999 [email protected] -N -C I've tried using the -b command in linux, but to no avail. Is this even possible? This is what I've tried: telnet host.com -b 999 I'm sorry if the answer is obvious, but I've done a lot of research and testing and I can't seem to figure this out. NOTE: I plan on telling the admin if I can find a way to get this to work, this is based off of simple curiosity and not malicious intent. If I can't bind a telnet port, is there a way to tunnel an ssh connection through telnet?

• What's a good Minimal Server-Side Javascript Framework?

  So I was writing a web app with web.py that uses plenty of client-side javascript, and my database is on couchdb so the queries are in javascript too, and eventually I just got to thinking, why not skip the python and go all javascript? Besides, some functions need to run once on the client and again on the server to make sure you're not spoofing, so why translate between javascript and python? So I'm looking for a simple lightweight javascript web framework. All I really need is the url routing, request and response stuff (standard wsgi?), and a way to hook into a big http server like nginx. What do you guys recommend?

• Can't access internet using a domain joined computer outside the domain environment

  We had an unused box at work so took it home. It had been joined to the domain and hasn't been unjoined. When I try to use it at home (logging in with a local admin account) I can't seem to access internet pages. It gets correct IP and gateway for the local network and correct DNS servers for the home ADSL connection. I can happily ping the home router (which doesn't have any tricky firewall settings). Can't seem to ping outside, get any DNS to resolve, or (obviously) get any web pages. Is there some problem here with this having been joined to the domain?

• Share laptop Wi-Fi with router set up as access point via ethernet cables

  I have an ADSL modem which serves as a wireless router. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room I have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Since I have other appliances that need to get connected but are not Wi-Fi capable I have another Wi-Fi router. How can I share the second laptop's Wi-Fi with the second router so that the router can then serve as an access point to give internet to my other appliances through ethernet cables? I want something like this: INTERNETMODEM (WIFI)LAPTOP 1 (WIFI)LAPTOP 2 (WIFI)Router 2 (ETHERNET)DREAMBOX & WDTV What I've tried so far is opened the admin interface of router 2 then set static IP 192.168.100.13 and disabled the DHCP. The DHCP of the main router starts with 192.168.100.1 then I hooked up router 2 with the laptop 2 through Cat5 cable but for some reason it's not working.

• Trying To Uninstall Exchange 2007 From Server - Stuck On "Mailbox Role Checks"

  Hi All, I am trying to uninstall Exchange 2007 on a secodary server which has been decommissioned for quite a while (cleaning up after an old Network Admin). The only roll the server had was "Mailbox Role" (the primary server also has this). I have tried uninstalling using Programs and Features GUI tool but that hung on Mailbox Role Checks. I then tried uninstalling Exchange by running Setup.com /mode:uninstall. It has been stuck on 1% of "Mailbox Role Checks" for over 3 hours now. Is there any other options I have for uninstalling Exchange 2007 so the old server can be removed from the Exchange Management console?

• Rewriting An URL With Regular Expression Substitution in Routes

  In my Pylons app, some content is located at URLs that look like http://mysite/data/31415. Users can go to that URL directly, or search for "31415" via the search page. My constraints, however, mean that http://mysite/data/000031415 should go to the same page as the above, as should searches for "0000000000031415." Can I strip leading zeroes from that string in Routes itself, or do I need to do that substitution in the controller file? If it's possible to do it in routing.py, I'd rather do it there - but I can't quite figure it out from the documentation that I'm reading.

• Snippets between desktop and laptop

  The Situation: At work, I have a nice beefy desktop running Windows Server 2008 R2 (SharePoint dev machine). My handy ThinkPad is right next to it. Every once in a while I'd like to cut and paste or share something (usually text) between the machines: for example, I might be headed out and I'd like to take send the URL I'm reading from the desktop to the laptop. Of course I can create a share or use the Admin shares and create files to get stuff back and forth, but that seems heavyweight for what I'm thinking of. I'm thinking more along the lines of sending myself an IM. How do you get little things from machine to machine? Keep a shared folder pinned to the taskbar? Send an email to yourself? Bookmark sync? While on it, I'm looking for a decent multiple clipboard handler: maybe these two functions are combined in some nice little utility? I suspect I'm missing something simple here... Thanks... I've added the apple.ldif schema, and the samba.ldif schema, plus a test user. Last week, I had installed slapd on Ubuntu 11, and was able to authenticate against it from OS X Lion after finding the following blog post: Fixing OpenLDAP Authentication on OS X Lion This suggests running the following commands to fix the authentication problem /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string CRAM-MD5" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string NTLM" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "add ':module options:ldap:Denied SASL Methods:' string GSSAPI" /Library/Preferences/OpenDirectory/Configurations/LDAPv3/yourldapserver.plist However, I ran these commands on OS X Mountain Lion, and I am still unable to authenticate. I can't even use the Directory Editor app to examine the AD. I am however able to bind to the server via python-ldap's ldap.simple_bind_s('cn=admin,dc=foo,dc=net,'secret'). The error I am getting when trying to use Director Editor is Error Code (5000)

• No win 7 users available for login after dell datasafe factory reset

  I created install discs using the Dell datasafe 2.0 backup utility in order to re-install windows on a friend's laptop (dell inspiron n5110). I ran the discs to do a factory reset. after the whole process, it booted, started loading windows 7, displayed the messages "setup is preparing your computer for first use" and "setup is checking video performance," and showed the login screen. However, there don't seem to be any active users on the machine - I opened a command prompt window to check the users on the machine. Using the command prompt (again, from the login window), i activated/enabled the administrator account, and even created another admin account, and upon logging in received several errors, couldn't load any mmc's, etc. any help would be appreciated.

Microsoft has recently released Windows Management Framework 3.0 for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 systems, which includes some nice things native to Windows Server 2012 (like PowerShell 3.0) and lots of improvements to WMI, WinRM and other management technologies. Windows Update is advertising it as an optional update. Should I install it on my servers?

I can log into iSeries Navigator, navigate to schema functions permissions and change the permission for public from Exclude to All. bam it works. How do I grant permission to all, either in the CREATE FUNCTION or after?

• MVC in a Google App Engine Java world

  I'm coming to Java from C# & ASP.NET MVC, I'd love to find an equivalent in the Java world that I could use on the Google App Engine. I've already started to have a play with FreeMarker and even made the first steps towards writing a very simple framework. Ideally I wouldn't have to do all the hard work though, someone must have done this already! So my question is - what frameworks are there out there that would be familiar for me coming from ASP.NET MVC and I could use them on Google App Engine for Java. The key things I'd want are: Simple Routing - /products/view/1 gets mapped to the view action of the products controller with the productid of 1 Template Engine - some way of easily passing 'ViewData' to the view, and from the view easily accessing it, ideally I'd love to avoid anything that is too XMLy (thus why I like FreeMarker).

  I have a rails model called 'audioclip'. I orginally created a scaffold with a 'new' action, which I replaced with 'new_record' and 'new_upload', becasue there are two ways to attach audio to this model. Going to /audioclips/new_record doesn't work because it takes 'new_record' as if it was an id. Instead of changing this, I was trying to just create '/record_clip' and '/upload_clip' paths. So in my routes.db I have: map.record_clip '/record_clip', :controller => 'audioclips', :action => 'new_record' map.upload_clip '/upload_clip', :controller => 'audioclips', :action => 'new_upload' When I navigate to /record_clip, I get ActionController::MethodNotAllowed Only get, head, post, put, and delete requests are allowed. I'm not extremely familiar with the inner-workings of routing yet. What is the problem here? (If it helps, I have these two statements above map.resources = :audioclips

• OSX 10.8 Corrupted User Account Using Launchctl

  I used the following command: launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist in an attempt to disable notification center. I'm not sure that I got all of the commands right and appear to have corrupted the account that I executed it from - I get a grey screen when I try to login on that account. Fortunately I have another account on the machine with admin privileges so I can still use the machine. I would however like to restore the account to a working condition preferably without having to resort to a complete system restore from my time machine backup. Is there a way of diagnosing the current status of this launchagent and returning it to its original state?

• OS X Server App ail not accept login credentials

  I cannot login to the server app and i know for sure all the login info is right. every time i enter my password the name window shakes to tell me it's invalid. I never post unless I'm out of ideas and I need it to be up so I can host my splash page tonight. i've spoken with "certified apple" specialists at some local mac stores and they are stumped too. Something is going on with the apache server, that's all i know for sure. I'll be monitoring this closely so any requests for info, etc. can be filled instantly. Thanks in advance. here's a few things i've noticed: I can ssh successfully into the server address as both root and admin. I've been fussing with the workgroup manager and could use guidance if that's where the problem lies. console shows this message repeatedly (org.apache.httpd[1890]) Exited with code: 1). • Is it Secure to Grant Apachie User Ownership of Directories & Files for Wordpress

  I'm currently setting up WordPress on an Ubuntu server 12 everything runs fine but there is an issue when it comes to automatically updating and uploading media via WP as Apache "www-data" user does not have permissions to write to the directories. "user1" has full permission All my directories have permissions of 0755 and files 644 my directories setup is as follows: /home/user1/public_html All WP files and directories are in "public_html" In order to work around the auto updating and uploading media I've granted Apache user ownership to the following directories sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-content -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-includes -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-admin -R I would like to know security wise how secure this is and if it is not secure what would be the best solution? That will allow me to keep all files and directories owned by user1 and still allow wp to be able to automatically update and uploading media
