  • Will a SQL Server client alias survive a sysprep?

    I want to sysprep a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 machine that has SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 installed (for reference, SQL Server 2008 R2 has a new sysprep feature that allows the instance to be sysprepped). On the server is a SQL Server client alias that points to the default SQL Server database engine instance. For reference, the alias is called Alias-SQLServer and has been configured in both 32-bit and 64-bit cliconfig versions (that is, both registry keys exist) The alias points to the local instance as the image will be used to create development VMs and the installation script for the application that is being developed will use the SQL Server client alias in order to generalize the installation scripts. I can't seem to find information about whether the sysprep tool will update the SQL Server client alias's registry keys with the server's new name once it's unsealed. My guess is that it is not; how is sysprep to know that the server name the alias points to will be different for each image? Right? Perhaps if the alias points to localhost instead of the server name this will work?

  • SQL Server 2008 Replication: Snap Shot Agent timing out on a specific table

    Hi all, I am going through the process of setting up a transactional replication on my set up. However, I am unable to generate a full snap shot of my database. I keep getting stuck at the same particular point of the process. From snapshot agent: [46%] The process is running and is waiting for a response from the server Other sources have mentioned increasing the timeout period but I do not think this is the problem as this occurs at around the 10 min mark, way within the default value of 1800s. So, I removed that article/table from the snapshot, and lo and behold, it works. So I was looking at the Schema of the table and in my identity column, the NOT FOR REPLICATION was set to TRUE. All my other tables have it set to FALSE. Could this be the source of the error? Also, I tried changing this to false via the GUI but got received a timeout error. Is there a script that allows me to change this? Thanks all.

The error I get is, "Run-time error '-2147217843(80040e4d)': Automation error". I checked out the MSDN site and it suggested that this may be due to a bug associated with the sqloledb provider and one way to mitigate this is to use ODBC. Well I changed the connection string to reflect ODBC provider and associated parameters and I'm still getting the same error.     I've just installed SQL Server 2008 Developer edition and I'm trying to connect using SQLCMD.exe, but I get the following error: H:\>sqlcmd.exe -S ".\SQL2008" Msg 18452, Level 14, State 1, Server DEVBOX\SQL2008, Line 1 Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. Has anyone seen this before? Any idea what it means??

  • OpenVPN - Ubuntu 10.04 - Client Can't Connect to Server - Linux Route Add Command Failed

    I suppose this could be asked on Server Fault as well, but it is specific to the client so I thought I'd start here. I have keys for access to an OpenVPN server already in place. I have used these keys to connect already, but using a Windows XP machine.     I recently rebuilt my machine to Windows 7 x64, installed Sql Server 2008 enterprise. I can connect fine to other remote instances via Management Studio (be they 2000, 2005 or 2008), but i cannot find my local default instance. I have verified that a directory was created for the default instance C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER I can connect to SQLEXPRESS instance fine I have rerun setup to ensure I have everything installed I have verified that the SQLSERVER(MSSQLSERVER) service is running I have tried brownsing for the instance and see all the others available except my local one I have tried using this for servername: TSOUTHERLANDPC\MSSQLSERVER, the first part being my local machine name My issue is not the same as this post or this post. Any ideas?

Under logs folder, in my machine it is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log, there are three kinds of files, •ERRORLOG, ERRORLOG.1, ERRORLOG.2 ... ERRORLOG.6; •FDLAUNCHERRORLOG, FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.1, FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.2, ...FDLAUNCHERRORLOG.6; •log_207.trc, log_208.trc, ... My question is what are the differnet function of such log files? And why there are files ends with .1, .2, etc? thanks in advance, George

    I am using LogonUser function to logon an account to Windows 2008 R2 server on a domain with clusterring. When using LOGON32_LOGON_INTERACTIVE as LogonType, I successfully login. When using LOGON32_LOGON_SERVICE as LogonType, Login fails, EventViewer says: An account failed to log on. Logon Type: 5 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: thename Account Domain: thedomain Logon ID: 0x1009371c Logon Type: 5 Failure Information: Failure Reason: The user has not been granted the requested logon type at this machine.     I have successfully set up a failover cluster on Microsoft Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition. Now I want to talk to the MSCluster WMI Provider on said server. WMI Queries to e.g. CIMV2 successed. But queries like select * from MSCluster_ResourceGroup where MSCluster_ResourceGroup.Name=\"testserver\" fail with "Access denied". I am using a domain admin account. Do I have to enable the MSCluster WMI Provider? What am I missing?

  • Mercurial client error 255 and HTTP error 404 when attempting to push large files to server

    Problem: When attempting to push a changeset that contains 6 large files (.exe, .dmg, etc) to my remote server my client (MacHG) is reporting the error: "Error During Push. Mercurial reported error number 255: abort: HTTP Error 404: Not Found" What does the error even mean?! The only thing unique (that I can tell) about this commit is the size, type, and filenames of the files. How can I determine which exact file within the changeset is failing? How can I delete the corrupt changeset from the repository? Someone reported using "mq" extensions, but it looks overly complicated for what I'm trying to achieve. Background: I can push and pull the following: source files, directories, .class files and a .jar file to and from the server, using both MacHG and toirtoise HG. I successfully committed to my local repository the addition for the first time the 6 large .exe, .dmg etc installer files (about 130Mb total). In the following commit to my local repository, I removed ("untracked" / forget) the 6 files causing the problem, however the previous (failing) changeset is still queued to be pushed to the server (i.e. my local host is trying to push the "add" and then the "remove" to the remote server - and keep aligned with the "keep everything in history" philosophy of the source control system). I can commit .txt .java files etc using TortoiseHG from Windows PCs. I haven't actually testing committing or pushing the same large files using TortoiseHG. Please help! Setup: Client applications = MacHG v0.9.7 (SCM 1.5.4), and TortoiseHG v1.0.4 (SCM 1.5.4) Server = HTTPS, IIS7.5, Mercurial 1.5.4, Python 2.6.5, setup using these instructions: http://www.jeremyskinner.co.uk/mercurial-on-iis7/ In IIS7.5 the CGI handler is configured to handle ALL verbs (not just GET, POST and HEAD).     Hi, I've just installed an Ubuntu server 9.10 on an EEEBox. This is my /etc/network/interfaces # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet static address 192.168.48.16 netmask 255.255.248.0 wireless-essid mynet auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address xx.xx.xx.xx netmask 255.255.255.224 gateway xx.xx.yy.yy When I restart /etc/init.d/networking, I can access the eth0 ip address from the internet and I can ping the machines in my wifi network mynet. Everything works fine and I have one default gateway. But after some time if I check again the route I just find two default gateways: one is correct and is the previous one, but the other is the one of the wifi network. I have a quite low signal of mynet where my server is and sometimes the wifi just disconnect and then reconnect again. Then I think that this can be a problem and the dhcp of the wifi net, when reconnecting it also add a default gateway. Any idea on how to resolve this issue?

I have installed copSSH that i use for SFTP, and when i upload my files i am unable to change persmissions or take ownership or anything when logged in as an administrator. when i try to go to permissions i get: The permissions on uploads are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective. and all permissions are the grayed out. i have tried to use icacls to reset ownership and also tried to give myself full control through icacls however all attempts are met with a access is denied message and failed processing 669 files. all i wish to do is set up write and delete permissions on an upload folder for a CMS systems admin area, but i am a week into looking into this and i am still no wiser. Please could someone give some sound advice so i can get this running smooth thanks p.s i have added the copSSH notes as i think that when i SFTP the files to the server, this may somehow have some involvement in messing up permissions

It can be accessed by entering \\servername and it can be pinged by name and IP address. Users access shares without issue. Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled. Computer browser is running on the Windows 2008R2 system. Turn on Network Discovery is enabled.     I recently installed Windows Server 2012. This will serve as the dev-instance for our engineers and will be accessed in multiple time zones. I therefore plan to run this 24x7 but want to conserve energy by going to sleep mode when not in use & enable Wake-On-Magic-Packet. Based on the previous post it appears that there is no option to sleep Win Server 2012 with Hyper-V. Since I don't care much about virtualization now, I uninstalled Hyper-V. In addition to this, I have done the following 1) Ran powercfg -a. Don't find sleep. 2) Added [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hvboot] "Start"=dword:00000003 to try gaining sleep - no luck! 3) Only see Shutdown and Restart in power options. There is virtual network connection between host and virtual machines (192.168.10.xxx). Host is also attached to external network (10.10.10.123). Virtual machines have several other networks between them. E.g., I want to be able to redirect traffic from 10.10.10.123 12345 to 192.168.10.321 54321 I tried RRAS in windows server but for it to work Default gateway to 10.10.10.123 has to be set in virtual machines. Virtual machines can not be on external network.

    This little question is part of a much larger issue I am trying to resolve: Does SQLCMD require a separate install or is it included with the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client (which I just installed on my webserver). Maybe this is just an incorrect path issue.   • SMTP server (IIS) is running but can't test it with telnet

    I have a Windows 2003 web edition server that I can't seem to get the SMTP relay working. BT4 shows port 25 open. When I try use telnet to test it on my desktop I get: Connecting To XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX...Could not open connection to the host, on port 25: Connect failed. From the server I get: Microsoft Telnet> o 127.0.0.1 25 Connecting To 127.0.0.1... Connection to host lost. There isn't anything useful in the logs. Any ideas?

    Hi there, I've installed windows server 2008 as a VM for the developers here to work on. Installed SQL Server 2008 as well as IIS7. I am not quite sure why, I can remote into that machine using the name I gave to it (winserverdev) but the guys that are supposed to use the bloody thing can't. One very interesting thing is that I can connect but I can't ping... not the name nor the IP address. Is there anything that I should be looking in order to make it work? Any ideas are welcome.   • Ubuntu web server 11.10 ftp/server issue

    I was wondering if I could get some help with FTP, atleast I'm pretty sure it has to do with FTP. Although it could have to do with something else, I'm not 100% sure.. Now, for fare warning, I'm no ubuntu dominator, I'm pretty newb. Anyway, I've attempted to build a webserver to to test php and what not for a site I'm building. Now everything works, the php, the sql etc. By the way, I built this in VMware, so it's virtual, over a network, so I can access stuff from anywhere. I'm in a college right now so yeah. The one problem I have is this. I go into the terminal, and do ifconfig to find my IP. I get it and go to a browser on a different machine and type that IP in. I get the "index of/" page, where I can browse the website I'm making. I can click through folders and what not. I can click on things and they open up. Now lets say I'm working on my desktop and open up an FTP and drag and drop something into there, go to the IP in the browser again and try to open it. I either get "Server error The website encountered an error while retrieving http://my_server_ip/phpinfo.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. Here are some suggestions: Reload this webpage later." or "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /html.html on this server." But, lets say I make it on the server itself, and try, bam, magic it works. I'm sure I set the permissions to let everyone open and view the files, but maybe I didn't? I'm not sure, and this is where I was hoping I could get some help. By the way, I followed a tutorial on changing the www folder (apache) from /var/www to home/"user"/www. I can't recall how I did that, but it's there and my ftp goes to the home/"user"/www folder. But yeah, any and all help is appreciated. Like I said, I'm really new to this, but I do enjoy attempting to make these servers and learning how they work, so it's not like making this webserver is a project for a class, It's just assisting me in testing stuff for another class and possibly other websites later on down the road. Anyway, anyone who decides to help, thanks so much, I'd really appreciate it. Nate. P.S. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 desktop edition with a LAMP server
