• Display in applications on ubuntu 12.10 is broken - maybe theme problem

  I have a problem which looks like this: http://s16.postimage.org/yjusy9en9/Screenshot_from_2012_10_28_22_49_07.png If you take a look at buttons "Apply", "Reset", "Close" or any other buttons or drop-downs, you will see there is no style on them. It is a fresh install of ubuntu 12.10 and it was working on the beginning. But after some time setting up ubuntu I noticed the style on the elements has gone - I don't know when. I installed compiz-settings - maybe that caused - but when I un-install nothing changes. Also checking/unchecking "window decoration" in compiz doesn't help. Please help me. I am out of options :/

  I'm curious as to how games like Prelude of the chambered handle graphics. If you play for a bit you will see what I mean. It made me wonder how it works. (it is open-source so you can get the source on This page) I did find a few tutorials but I couldn't undertand some of the stuff but it did help with some things. • Software developer needs Validation for VA Chap 31 to purchase Macbook Pro vs. PC [closed]

  I am currently attending college with a path of software development and working towards my BS thanks to VA Chap 31. My old original Macbook Pro is near dead and no longer upgradable on the software or hardware side. The VA has offered to purchase a PC laptop for me (Because my syllabi says computer required), but I do not want to go backwards. I have a lot invested in OS X software and Mac peripherals, not to mention I prefer to program in an Apple environment. PC vs. Mac costs are so drastically different that I must validate my request for a new Macbook Pro. In my request to the VA, I stated the above and some other topics but they requested more validation. Can anyone recommend issues, reasons, etc. to help me validate this purchase by the VA for school? Thanks in advance for your help, David

• Cannot install Android 2.3 libs dies to missing ia32-libs-multiarch

  I need to get my box up to par or android development, but cannot get ia32-libs to install for the life of me. Can anyone help? The error Android's tool gave me was Stopping ADB server failed (code -1) and after a bit of investigation I found that I needed to install the ia32-libs which from my understanding is a pain. • compiz hiding unity and all menus

  After updating to Ubuntu 11.10, I was severly disturbed by Dash and wanted to go back to Ubuntu Classic. So I tried to read up, and found Compiz SettingsManager. In there, I clicked "on" never hide menus. For some reason this made all my menus at the top of the screen (volume, network, my login identity, and shutoff, etc) disappear - as well as the quickstart menu to the left (Unity). I am not very technical, so I have a hard time finding any programs now, and I just got on the internet by clicking on a link in a document, that I was fortunate to have on my Desktop. Without it, I wouldn't be able to ask for help. What I wish for is a) to get back the menu at the top, b) to restore the Ubuntu Classic without the irritating launcher and Dash, c) these two things to not disappear every time there is a new version of Ubuntu. Any help is greatly appreciated.

But even after 1 year of practising on emacs I am unable to solve these three annoying issues about emacs please help me! 1.Whenever I want to copy the content from emacs into other things such as a website textarea I have to use GUI copy button because ctrl+w doesn't work. Is there any way to do this from emacs-command line. 2.Whenever I delete something using ctrl+shft+SPC or ctrl+k etc I don't want it to be stored in kill ring how do I do it(I know ctrl+D does this but it deletes only one char at a time)? 3.Whenever I select text by mouse and press backspace then text goes into kill ring(Which I want to change as mentioned) but same doesn't happen when I select text with ctrl+SPC(set mark) and then ctrl+f/ctrl+b etc. Please help me! • Why CoffeeScript is tough to maintain

  I recently started trying out CoffeeScript only to find out that it caused more headaches. The abstraction level of jQuery was perfect, it did not dictate to coders how to design their code, it just works. However, I recently posted a request to the CoffeeScript team to consider introducing curly braces to help with more complex code to control the flow of logic. For example a if-then-else with many nested levels can be near impossible to debug without tracing through it when using CoffeeScript. Also with IDEs like Visual Studio, regular JavaScript intellicense and auto-formatting make it easy to appropriate indent nested levels without any work on the part of the developer and reading it is not that hard, especially with some extensions that show vertical lines in the code editor to help see what is nested within what part of the code.However with CoffeeScript that is not the case. The samples given in the CoffeeScript web site are of course just simple examples to explain the features and one gets excited pretty quick over the powerful shortcuts. I tried to convert a piece of JavaScript over to CoffeeScript and gave up since you need to first of all remove ALL non CoffeeScript coding constructs for it to even compile. However js2coffee can help with that. However to keep track of nested levels became something that was simply not manageable using CoffeeScript.Furthermore, any coding language that controls the flow of logic by indentation is extremely dangerous for obvious reasons. I liked CoffeeScript a lot, but the fact that the logical flow of the code is controlled by how much you indent code, spaces or tabs, is not reliable as there is no way the programmer has an easy way of knowing what parts of the code will get hit when the code spans a page.When I suggested introducing curly braces in CoffeeScript the team, one contributor advised me that my code needs to be re-designed! Needless to say that is absurd. When I included a piece of the code he asked my if it was legacy code. It's like saying to a Java programmer, sorry you cannot use Java because we don't agree with how you write your code.jashkenas from the CoffeeScript blog gave some great suggestions and made the point that introducing curly braces would be very problematic for them as they use them to denote objects. Makes sense, but I would still love to see some way to replace code flow control with spaces and indentation to something more concrete and human readable.
