    Can I have two independent Connection servers attached to the same vCenter server? Here's my scenario. I'm setting up View 4 to provide desktops to two seperate Windows domains that are on different IP subnets seperated by a firewall. One cluster of physical servers, one vCenter server, linked clones. As I understand it View Connection server has to be a member of a Windows domain in order for quickprep to work. So the way to provide desktops to both Windows domains is to have a Connection server in each one right? Then open ports in the firewall so the Connection server from the other subnet can communicate with vCenter. Any reason why this won't work? Or is there a better way to accomplish it?

    I am setting up a cisco asa 5505 with the base license. I can communicate from inside-outside, outside-inside, inside-home, which is my desired traffic security. I can get http, ssh, and other access from inside-home, but I can't ping from inside-home (192.168.110.0 host to 192.168.7.1 or 192.168.7.0 host). Can someone explain.     Hey there! I want to assemble a cheap storage sytem based on the Norco RPC-4020 Case. When searching for controllers I found this one: Intel® RAID Controller SASWT4I This is a quote form the Spec Sheet: Scalability. Supports up to 122 physical devices in SAS mode which is ideal for employing JBODs (Just a Bunch Of Disks) or up to 14 devices in RAID 0, 1, 1E/10E mode through direct connect device attachment or through expander backplane support. Does that mean I can attatch 14 SATA drives directly to the controller using SFF-8087 - 4x SATA breakout cables? That would be nice because then I can choose a mainboard that has 6 Onboard SATA and i can connect all 20 bays while only spending 155$ on the controller and like another 100$ on cables. Would that work? And why is it 14 and not 16 when there are 4 Ports? I am really confused about all the breakout/fanout/(edge-)expanding/multiplying/channel stuff...

  • USB question (how durable is it, how should I workaround this)

    The plot is quite simple. Got a Razer mouse. If I plug it in, it works. After a shutdown/hibernation, I have to replug it entirely at the back of the PC. (It works in my laptop even after severel shutdown, etc, so yes I guess it's my motherboard.. but it still got 2 years of warranty and it comes with quad SLI, its not an old motherboard at all. (MSI P7N SLI FI (bought it after a hungarian guy's recommendation)). So. I only could come up with one "solution". Get 3 USB cable (you know, USB-USB). If its possible the shortest ones (don't know if the responsibility/anything will worsen), AND replug only the middle+closest to the USB port junction, since those are replaceable. What do you think? Any other idea? (BIOS is updated, mouse driver ... doesn't really matter, the mouse won't even blink a bit after this happens. It lights up and goes totally dead.)

    Was wondering if anyone knew how to get 3-4 virtual box's to share the same monitor (i.e. so i could potentially get 4 box's on one screen, each screen environment would need to maintain its 1280x1024 internal resolution (so scale i guess?) anyways if you could help it would be greatly appreciated.     I've designed my own 'latest news' page for my site - and I'm trying to keep the URL's clean. (eg) It should look like this : http://www.domain.com/21/this-is-a-clean-url/ When someone links to the article, they sometimes mess it up and do : http://www.domain.com/21/this-is-a-clean-url/#random-hash-tag So what I have been doing is looking for "http://www.domain.com/21" and 301 (moved permantly) redirecting to the proper url + adding a canonical meta tag for it. Is this going overboard? Should I instead be using a (302 Found) header - and just let the canonical tag tell search engines what the proper URL for the article is? What is the best way of handling this?

  • Cisco NAT + IPSec + Web Server Configuration Question

    Hello - I currently have a Cisco 881W, and it is configured with one of our static IPs to do basic NAT for the network. We also have a web server that needs it's own IP. I configured the NAT for the 2nd IP, however now traffic through our IPSec VPN doesn't route to the web server properly (well, it routes to the internet, rather than through the Tunnel). I followed the instructions here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk583/tk372/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080094634.shtml But now the outbound NAT doesn't seem to be working properly - it keeps going to the NAT of the Cisco, and not the designated IP address. If anyone can assist, I would appreciate it greatly. Let me know what you need, and I'll get it to you! Thanks!

  • Automation Question using VMWare Workstation

    I'm running an experiment that requires me to create 100 instances of Windows XP w/SP3 and saving each VM instance off to a hard drive. I have to annotate the time that the VM load starts (starting my timer when I see the "Setup is preparing...") until the load ends when I see the final desktop after VM loads its drivers. I also have to annotate the host start and stop time. Is there any way this process can be automated? Each load runs me about 16:00 minutes and gets real tiresome after a time. BTW... Exact timing is not necessary, eyeballing as described above is sufficient for my testing needs.

    Suppose you have DC power supply and a consumer connected to it (i.e. computer PSU and a hard drive). Suppose PSU which was supplied with the consumer has output 5V 1A. So I assume that the consumer should not consume more than 1A. Suppose the original PSU is broken now and I want to replace it with the one I have which is 5V 10A. My guess is that current is something which depends on the consumer. So if the consumer consumes normally 1A then it will not consume more than that even if it is connected to 10A PSU. In other word - am I right assuming that the consumer will not burn out being connected to a power supply with higher current output? P.S. my understanding is that voltage is something independent from the consumer. If you give it higher voltage it will burn (voltage is from PSU to the consumer). However current must be in opposite - consumer sucks as much current as it need not as much as PSU can provide (of course given that max PSU current is greater than the consumer needs)

  • crontab: question about a special case of the dash character in the time field spec

    In the SuSE /etc/crontab the entry to run the cron.{hourly,daily,monthly,weekly} scripts is coded as: -*/15 * * * * root test -x /usr/lib/cron/run-crons && /usr/lib/cron/run-crons /dev/null 2&1 Notice that the very first character of the specification is a dash character (-), and this is NOT a typo. Can somebody explain what the time spec '-*/15' means? BTW, the stuff seems to be running fine. Thanks

    I've been using grep to run a few PII scans and while its finding results, its indeed finding too many false positives. Is there a way that I can tell grep not to trigger a match for a file unless it contains other data? For instance, can I tell it not to trigger an alert on a regex for a SSN unless the file includes text like "ssn" or "social security number"?

What I mean by image is a snapshot of all of my programs, settings,files, everything, i think this is referred to as a ghost image. I want to be able to restore so I do not have to reinstall everything again. Does the backup/restore utility in Windows Server 2008 R2 do this?

  • Anti-virus protection question?

    About 4 years ago, I found Kaspersky and have been using the most current version since. Most people try and argue the use of AVG or Avast to me, and there are some very solid reasons I do not go that route. Over the years, I have found Kasp to become bulkier and bulkier, and have had issues setting it up for friends/family/clients. I am just curios on possible recommendations from other users, with my criteria in mind: What I like about Kasp in the past: The license sold in stores in a 3 pack, is considered a commercial license, and emails from Kasp in response to my questions, make it clear that I can do with the 3 licenses that I want, providing I do not use more than 3 installs per Key. So, allowed me to buy 3, 5, and 7 packs, and resell to users at a cheaper cost than what they would pay if they bought their own license. The ability to easily obtain a currently updated .exe for installation on multiple peoples machines. Power of the scan. Kasp has been a good solution for me (even when using a trial license) on cleaning up machines that were badly infected (in which AVG and AVAST were unable to.) Speed of install/update. After a cleanup of malwarebytes, spybot, mcafee stinger, ccleaner, and combofix, I used to be able to get Kasp Int Security installed and updated in around 5 minutes. The issues that I have with the free AV, is strength of protection. In my opinion for someone who is a 'power use' these are good alternatives, because such a user should be trained or knowledgeable enough to be careful and not get themselves in trouble. Most of the users I assist, are too PC ignorant to know any better, and go hogwild on the web. It has been my experience that the number of people coming back to me with spyware/malware/virus issues since I have converted from AVG to Kasp has been cut down to around 20% of what it used to be 4 or 5 years ago. In a perfect world, I could install and use Kasp Internet Security 2008, and be very happy. But this is not the case anymore. So after this long description of what I used, and have used, does anyone have any good recommendations on AV that isn't going to cost me too much per install?

    i know how IP basically works, and knows that an IP address composed of a network ID portion and a host ID portion, but when I type a IP address ,say "8.8.8.8" into the web browser, i DIDN'T supply any subnet mask information, so how does the browser know where the dividing line is between the network ID and host ID? since 8.8.8.8 may mean 8.8.8.8/8, 8.8.8.8/24 etc. In a nutshell, the IP address I supplied is ambiguous.
