Any recomendations on what services are out there to host an ASP.NET MVC application using .NET 3.5, IIS 7, SQL Server 2008? Any recommendation on shared? VPS? Dedicated?
I'm trying to do a nightly backup of a SQL Server 2005 database to get the leanest, smallest file that includes all the table data, stored procedures, views, and functions.
I'm downloading and saving this daily in case the server isn't available and I need to just get some data out. I don't care about the logs or any other parts of the DB but the data, procs, tables, and functions.
What's the easiest way to get just this information backed up?
How can we start running perfmon automatically on active SQL Server active node? Typically when we failover to the inactive node and we forgot to run the perfmon. We want to start running the perfmom automatically if possible. If not how can we tell if perfmon is not running so we can send out alert to start the perfmom? We can watch the log file output but we want to know if there is more elegance solution. Thank you.
Hi all
The title says it, I searched the net but not even in the microsoft technet they mention what features I must activate for SQL Server 2005. Can someone help me out?
Getting error:
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
Restarted the service, server, and all the computers in between. I suspect it's not connecting to the domain server - any way to check about this?
Hi
I'm configuring SQL server 2005 reporting server to send emails outside the domain. I have followed the steps outlined at MS but have a question:
How can I supply a domain user to connect to the Exchange server in the same domain? I've tried
<SMTPAccountName>DOMAIN\User</SMTPAccountName>
in the rsreportserver.config.
Is it safe to optimize a SQL Server 2005 SAP R/3 database using Database Tuning Advisor raccomandatations? We are experiencing very low performance on a dedicated SAP database because of intense read operations ad the db and DTA suggest to create about 25 indexes and 100 stats. I am not an expert of SAP and I am quite surprised to see that this database has about 56.000 tables and 6500 views (120 GB of data).
Thank you all for help
I've been asked to look into log shipping for SQL Server 2000 (yes, 2000): something in my memory tells me that I looked at this years ago and there were question marks over it's reliability.
I'm trying to google stuff, but given the age of 2000 now I've put pulled up anything to confirm this -- most seem to say they're using it without problem, so just want confirm whether I'm just being delusional, or whether there were problems, but with a fully patched SP4 box these don't exist any more.
Cheers!
I have a SQL 2008 developer edition with SSRS and the report manager is only available from the local machine. If I try to access it from any other machine I get challenged for my domain u/name and pwd 3 times and then the screen stays blank.
I have made changes to some config files (originals copied out) in order to get a 3rd party application to run but that is now uninstalled and the config files are all back to vanilla (originals copied back in)
I feel its something to do with authentication but am stuck ...
any suggestions welcomed
Jonathan
I have SQL Server 2005 operating on a remotely hosted server and wish to access it from my own machine using management studio
The firewall on the remote server is allready setup to allow all traffic from my external IP - and that works great.
However I have a load balancing router that has a second line attached to it - unfortunatly the second line has a dynamic external IP.
I need to therefore set up a rule in the router to always send data from Management studio on the first line - but I need to know the port numbers.
Can you advise?
I am trying to query IP addresses from Forefront Firewall logs, and I am a little stuck on the IP formatting
C0A8E008-FFFF-0000-0000-000000000000
Can anyone give me the MSSQL command to turn this into standard human redable?
UPDATE, I now see that I kust need to convert the first 8 charecters from hex to decimal....which I can then convert to IP. the trick is to parse those first charecters from the field with SQL
Hi,
I was asked to drop some tables on a Company SQL 2005 Server and provide proof of deletion because of these tables contains sensitive data. Is it possible?
Thank you all for help
In SQL Server Management Studio, when I run a query which outputs a numeric column (int or similar types), they are displayed in decimal (example: 193). I want them to display in hex (example: 0xC1). How do I do that?
I found many answers on how to write converter functions, but I don't want that - only change the display in SSMS. I only found this unanswered question.
I use SQL2010, though may move to SQL2012 soon.
Hey guys i am facing a problem installing sql server 2008 on Windows 7 x64. it gives some wow64 error. can some one tell me is it possible to install 32bit version on 64bit OS. if yes, then please explain how to do that.
Due to some security problems, My boss has asked me to store all sensitive data in external/removable storages like USB stick or external HDD and this specially includes the MDF/NDF/LDF files of SQL Server 2008 we're running.
I've been reading for these last three days with no luck to find a solution. Is there any solution at all? Has ever anybody done such thing?
We are expecting a large number of users to hit a Website built with IIS/.Net 4.0 that our SQL Server 2008 database server is providing data for. The database is around 2GB in size. We are contemplating increasing the MAX CONNECTION POOL to between 500 to 1000 -- to handle the estimated traffic. Two questions
(1) Does anyone have any hard performance numbers indicating the kind of improvement this may provide?
(2) What is the impact of hitting that MAX CONNECTION POOL number in a production enviroment?
I am having a problem performing maintenance tasks on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 after changing my server name from the original random name given during installation to the one I prefer
This is the error am getting
Could not obtain Information about Windows NT group/users
'WIN-4N4A9TLBGJJ\Administrator', error code 0x534
Is there a way I can fix this problem without having to delete the account and recreating it again?
Hi All,
I've been tasked with comparing the monitoring capabilities in SCOM 2007 with the established SQL products such as Spotlight, SQLSentry, etc.
I'm pretty sure that SCOM can't do some of the more in-depth stuff that those products do, but can it be configured/programmed to alert on the most often encountered problems via VBScript and TSQL. Does anyone have an idea of what type of development effort would be needed for this? Thanks for any and all help.
i have made columns in some of the tables encrypted in sql server 2008. Now as i am a db owner i have the access to encode and decode the data using the symmetric key and certificate. But some other users have only currently datareader and datawriter rights ,and when they execute any SP referring the logic which uses the key and certificate "User does has not right on the certificate to execute". What rights / exact permission should i grant them just to solve this problem

We have a production database and visual studio 2010 database project. We had to make some changes in database schema. Unfortunately we don't have previous database schema file for production database. Is there a way to export existing database schema as *.dbschema file, preferably from Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (2008 R2)? This way we could run schema comparison and generate update script.
Windows 2008 R2 High Availability Cluster and we were just going through the first phase of configuration. Somebody accidentally loaded the instance incorrectly, so I was hopping to uninstall and reinstall.
But when I approach the uninstall process, it fails with the following msg:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object
SQL instance not yet clustered (FYI)
Any idea?
I think I screwed myself on the setup of SQL 2005. I installed Database Services, but forgot to install replication. I then installed SP3. Is it possible to install replication after sp3? Or do I need to start from scratch?
Hi,
I am new to sql server and was wondering if anyone can recommend any good articles on to setup the server so I can browse the database remotely with management studio and allow a program to connect remotely?
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Actually I run RAID 5 (4 x SAS drives) with
Win 2008 Ent(1x host)
Win 2008 End(3x guest)
Sql Server 2005 Std (on guest)
3 x asp.net applications (on guest)
I bought 3 x drives to create additional array (on same controller E200i, I am waiting now for confirmation is it possible to have 3 raids in same controller)
I am planning to have 2 x RAID5 (if it is possible)
first RAID 5 with all vhd files,
systems etc
second RAID 5 all data files and transaction logs
I am looking for opinion how to optimize data layer (seven drives, one controller).
