  • Javascript self contained sandbox events and client side stack

    - by amnon
    I'm in the process of moving a JSF heavy web application to a REST and mainly JS module application . I've watched "scalable javascript application architecture" by Nicholas Zakas on yui theater (excellent video) and implemented much of the talk with good success but i have some questions : I found the lecture a little confusing in regards to the relationship between modules and sandboxes , on one had to my understanding modules should not be effected by something happening outside of their sandbox and this is why they publish events via the sandbox (and not via the core as they do access the core for hiding base libary) but each module in the application gets a new sandbox ? , shouldn't the sandbox limit events to the modoules using it ? or should events be published cross page ? e.g. : if i have two editable tables but i want to contain each one in a different sandbox and it's events effect only the modules inside that sandbox something like messabe box per table which is a different module/widget how can i do that with sandbox per module , ofcourse i can prefix the events with the moduleid but that creates coupling that i want to avoid ... and i don't want to package modules toghter as one module per combination as i already have 6-7 modules ? while i can hide the base library for small things like id selector etc.. i would still like to use the base library for module dependencies and resource loading and use something like yui loader or dojo.require so in fact i'm hiding the base library but the modules themself are defined and loaded by the base library ... seems a little strange to me libraries don't return simple js objects but usualy wrap them e.g. : u can do something like $$('.classname').each(.. which cleans the code alot , it makes no sense to wrap the base and then in the module create a dependency for the base library by executing .each but not using those features makes a lot of code written which can be left out ... and implemnting that functionality is very bug prone does anyonen have any experience with building a front side stack of this order ? how easy is it to change a base library and/or have modules from different libraries , using yui datatable but doing form validation with dojo ... ? some what of a combination of 2+4 if u choose to do something like i said and load dojo form validation widgets for inputs via yui loader would that mean dojocore is a module and the form module is dependant on it ? Thanks .

  • Custom onsynctopreference for XUL textbox

    - by Alexey Romanov
    I wanted to enable custom shortcuts in my Firefox extension. The idea is that the user just focuses on a textbox, presses key combination, and it's shown in the textbox and saved to a preference. However, I couldn't get it to work. With this XUL <?xml version="1.0"?> <?xml-stylesheet href="chrome://global/skin/" type="text/css"?> <?xml-stylesheet href="chrome://mozapps/skin/pref/pref.css" type="text/css"?> <!DOCTYPE window SYSTEM "chrome://nextplease/locale/nextplease.dtd"> <prefwindow id="nextpleaseprefs" title="&options.title;" buttons="accept, cancel" xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"> <prefpane id="nextplease.general" label="&options.general.title;" image="chrome://nextplease/skin/Sound Mixer.png"> <preferences> <preference id="nextkey" name="nextplease.nextkey" type="int"/> </preferences> <vbox flex="1"> <hbox align="center"> <label value="&options.general.nextKey;" /> <textbox id="nextkey" flex="1" editable="false" onkeyup="return nextplease.handleKeySelection(this, event);" preference-editable="true" preference="nextkey" onsynctopreference="alert('syncing'); return nextplease.syncKeySelector(this);"/> </hbox> </vbox> </prefpane> <script type="application/x-javascript" src="chrome://nextplease/content/nextpleaseCommon.js" /> <script type="application/x-javascript" src="chrome://nextplease/content/nextpleaseOptions.js" /> </prefwindow> the event in onkeyup works. But when I click the OK button, I don't see a "syncing" alert. Why isn't onsynctopreference working? Is it impossible to have custom onsynctopreference attribute for a textbox?

  • jQuery to hide and show divs with an indicator

    - by songdogtech
    Using the jQuery below to toggle the hiding and showing of divs of text: how would I add some sort of indicator - like an up and down arrow as a graphic - to the titles when the divs are either open and closed? What's the best way to do that? Two images? A CSS sprite? And most importantly: how would that be integrated into the JS? I've looked at other jQuery that assigns a random number to each div and then determines which are open and which are closed and toggles one of two images. But I'm using php in a WordPress loop to show a posts, and that gives problems with incrementing in the loop, so there must be an easier way that doesn't require changes in the name of the title div. Thanks.... This JS fires the showing and hiding. Each div can be expanded and collapsed independently. $(document).ready(function() { $('div.demo-show:eq(0)> div').hide(); $('div.demo-show:eq(0)> h3').click(function() { $(this).next().slideToggle('fast'); }); }); This is the HTML it works with: <div class="collapser"> <p class="title">Header-1 </p> <div class="contents">Lorem ipsum</div> <p class="title">Header-2</p> <div class="contents">Lorem ipsum </div> <p class="title">Header-3</p> <div class="contents">Lorem ipsum</div> </div> The CSS is arbitrary: .collapser { margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 500px; } .title { margin: 1px; color: #fff; padding: 3px 10px; cursor: pointer; position: relative; background-color:#c30; } .contents { padding: 5px 10px; background-color:#fafafa; }

  • How to Fix my jQuery code in IE?? Works in Firefox..

    - by scott jarvis
    I am using jQuery to show/hide a div container (#pluginOptionsContainer), and load a page (./plugin_options.php) inside it with the required POST vars sent. What POST data is sent is based on the value of a select list (#pluginDD) and the click of a button (#pluginOptionsBtn)... It works fine in Firefox, but doesn't work in IE.. The '$("#pluginOptionsContainer").load()' request never seems to finish in IE - I only see the loading message forever... bind(), empty() and append() all seem to work fine in IE.. But not load().. Here is my code: // wait for the DOM to be loaded $(document).ready(function() { // hide the plugin options $('#pluginOptionsContainer').hide(); // This is the hack for IE if ($.browser.msie) { $("#pluginDD").click(function() { this.blur(); this.focus(); }); } // set the main function $(function() { // the button shows hides the plugin options page (and its container) $("#pluginOptionsBtn") .click(function() { // show the container of the plugin options page $('#pluginOptionsContainer').empty().append('<div style="text-align:center;width:99%;">Loading...</div>'); $('#pluginOptionsContainer').toggle(); }); // set the loading message if user changes selection with either the dropdown or button $("#pluginDD,#pluginOptionsBtn").bind('change', function() { $('#pluginOptionsContainer').empty().append('<div style="text-align:center;width:99%;">Loading...</div>'); }); // then update the page when the plugin is changed when EITHER the plugin button or dropdown or clicked or changed $("#pluginDD,#pluginOptionsBtn").bind('change click', function() { // set form fields as vars in js var pid = <?=$pid;?>; var cid = <?=$contentid;?>; var pDD = $("#pluginDD").val(); // add post vars (must use JSON) to be sent into the js var 'dataString' var dataString = {plugin_options: true, pageid: pid, contentid: cid, pluginDD: pDD }; // include the plugin option page inside the container, with the required values already added into the query string $("#pluginOptionsContainer").load("/admin/inc/edit/content/plugin_options.php#pluginTop", dataString); // add this to stop page refresh return false; }); // end submit function }); // end main function }); // on DOM load Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I hate IE!

  • zend_application showing blank page

    - by daniel
    Hi, I'm using Zend_Application to bootstrap my app. class Bootstrap extends Zend_Application_Bootstrap_Bootstrap { public static $frontController = null; public static $registry = null; protected function _initEnvironment() { ini_set('display_errors', true); //date_default_timezone_set('Europe/London'); } protected function _initRegistry() { self::$registry = new Zend_Registry(array(), ArrayObject::ARRAY_AS_PROPS); Zend_Registry::setInstance(self::$registry); } protected function _initConfiguration() { $config = new Zend_Config_Ini( BASE_PATH . '/data/server/settings.ini', APPLICATION_ENV ); self::$registry->configuration = $config; } protected function _initLogging() { $config = self::$registry->configuration; $logger = new Zend_Log(new Zend_Log_Writer_Stream($config->logging->file)); Zend_Registry::set('logger', $logger); } protected function _initFrontController() { self::$frontController = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); self::$frontController->throwExceptions(true); self::$frontController->returnResponse(true); self::$frontController->setControllerDirectory( APPLICATION_PATH .'/controllers' ); self::$frontController->setParam('registry', self::$registry); return self::$frontController; } protected function _initView() { $config = self::$registry->configuration; $view = new Zend_View; $viewRenderer = new Zend_Controller_Action_Helper_ViewRenderer($view); Zend_Controller_Action_HelperBroker::addHelper($viewRenderer); Zend_Layout::startMvc( array( 'layoutPath' => APPLICATION_PATH . "/layouts/scripts", 'layout' => "layout" ) ); return $view; } protected function _initDatabase() { $config = self::$registry->configuration; $params = array('host' => $config->database->hostname, 'username' => $config->database->username, 'password' => $config->database->password, 'dbname' => $config->database->database); $db = Zend_Db::factory($config->database->type, $params); Zend_Registry::set('db', $db); } protected function _initPlaceholders() { $view = $this->getResource('View'); $view->doctype('XHTML1_STRICT'); $view->headTitle('Greplin') ->setSeparator(' / '); $view->headLink()->prependStylesheet('/src/css/header.css'); $view->headScript()->prependFile('/js/site.js'); return $view; } } When I run the app I get a blank page. Filenames / paths are intact. If I add die() to the bottom of my layout.phtml, I get the page. Something is resetting the headers and sending a blank page. My error reporting is on and I get unrelated errors. What could this be?! Thanks!

  • What's faster to parse lots of data (5Mb): eval or json?

    - by AlfaTeK
    I want to get, via ajax, a collection of data objects and parse them into JS data. Currently I have 2 choices: - Server returns valid javascript code and then I eval it. - Server returns JSON object and then I eval the json object What is the fastest of these in Firefox? (I only care about the "parsing" performance, not server or data transfer)

  • how to use window.onload?

    - by Patrick
    I'm refactoring a website using MVC. What was a set of huge pages with javascript, php, html etc etc is becoming a series of controllers and views. I'm trying to do it in a modular way so views are split in 'modules' that I can reuse in other pages when needed eg. "view/searchform displays only one div with the searchform "view/display_events displays a list of events and so on. One of the old pages was supposed to load a google map with a marker on it. Amongst the rest of the code, I can identify the relevant bits as follows <head> <script src="http://maps.google.com/maps?file=api&amp;v=2&amp;key=blablabla" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ function load() { if (GBrowserIsCompatible()) { var map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("map")); var point = new GLatLng(<?php echo ($info->lat && $info->lng) ? $info->lat .",". $info->lng : "51.502759,-0.126171"; ?>); map.setCenter(new GLatLng(<?php echo ($info->lat && $info->lng) ? $info->lat .",". $info->lng : "51.502759,-0.126171"; ?>), 15); map.addControl(new GLargeMapControl()); map.addControl(new GScaleControl()); map.addOverlay(new GMarker(point)); var marker = createMarker(point,GIcon(),"CIAO"); map.addOverlay(marker); } } //]]> </script> </head> ...then <body onload="load()" onunload="GUnload()"> ...and finally this div where the map should be displayed <div id="map" style="width: 440px; height: 300px"> </div> Don't know much about js, but my understanding is that a) I have to include the scripts in the view module I'm writing (directly in the HTML? I would prefer to load a separate script) b) I have to trigger that function using the equivalent of body onload... (obviously there's no body tag in my view. In my ignorance I've tried div onload=.... but didn't seem to be working :) What do you suggest I do? I've read about window.onload but don't know what's the correct syntax for that. please keep in mind that other parts of the page include other js functions (eg, google adsense) that are called after the footer.

  • regular expression for letters, numbers and - _ .

    - by Jorre
    I'm having trouble checking in PHP if a value is is any of the following combinations letters (upper or lowercase) numbers (0-9) underscore (_) dash (-) point (.) no spaces! or other characters a few examples: OK: "screen123.css" OK: "screen-new-file.css" OK: "screen_new.js" NOT OK: "screen new file.css" I guess I need a regex for this, since I need to throw an error when a give string has other characters in it than the ones mentioned above.

  • Is it possible to post to Facebook application Wall via JavaScript?

    - by Bess
    I have a Canvas Facebook app embedded via an iframe. I would like to include a feedback link which would encourage the user to leave a comment that would be added to the Application wall - this comment would open like a standard FB modal window. Is there anyway to post to to the Application Wall directly via JS? Everything I have found such as FB.Connect.StreamPublish(), only publishes to the users stream, I need to publish to the application stream. Thanks!

  • Unzipping zip archives with JavaScript in Firefox 3.6

    - by August Lilleaas
    I am toying with an application that will demo some Firefox 3.6 specific functionality, most of which are listed here: http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/ I want to drag a zip file in the browser, unzip it, and work with the unzipped contents. Are there any existing libraries that can do this? Does FireFox 3.6 in particular have something I can use? Or would I have to roll my own unzipper library? For the record: http://github.com/augustl/js-unzip

  • SSL with external static content server

    - by SirMoreno
    I have a .Net web application that for performance issues gets all the static data (CSS, Images, JS) from an external server that is on different location and different hosting company. I want to enable SSL on my site without the users getting a message: "Page contains both secure and insecure elements" Does this means I’ll have to get two SSL Certificates one for each server? If I want the users to continue getting the static content from the external server what other options do I have? Thanks.

  • Which JavaScript graphics library has the best performance?

    - by DNS
    I'm doing some research for a JavaScript project where the performance of drawing simple primitives (i.e. lines) is by far the top priority. The answers to this question provide a great list of JS graphics libraries. While I realize that the choice of browser has a greater impact than the library, I'd like to know whether there are any differences between them, before choosing one. Has anyone done a performance comparison between any of these?
