• design pattern tools to use?

  i have noticed that every area has some tools you can use to make things easier. eg. css = dreamweaver doctrine/propel = orm designer // you dont have to hardcore code schemas manually and remembering all the syntax/variables mysql = mysql workbench // the same etc. in this way you get aided and dont have to type things the hard way, and can learn the structure, but then use GUI tools to help you develop faster. now i'm learning design patterns (singleton, factory, command, memento etc) and im wondering if there are some kind of tools you can use that will help you develop faster. i dont know exactly what tools i'm trying to find, just helping me when coding with design patterns (schema drawings? references?) are there any?

• jQuery each function, getting the data out of it

  I am trying to use the jQuery each function (line 5) to display the results of an AJAX call. when I write resultObj.value on line 6 how come I am not getting any data? • Visual C++ 2008 doesn't recognize Windows declared types

  I have a program that doesn't seem to recognize declared types in the latest U3D software. There's a line typedef BOOL (WINAPI* GMI)(HMON, LPMONITORINFOEX); which gets the error: Error 1 error C2061: syntax error : identifier 'LPMONITORINFOEX' c:\Projects\U3D\Source\RTL\Platform\Common\Win32\IFXOSRender.cpp 28 and a line MONITORINFOEX miMon; which gets Error 5 error C2065: 'miMon' : undeclared identifier c:\Projects\U3D\Source\RTL\Platform\Common\Win32\IFXOSRender.cpp 49 Error 3 error C2065: 'MONITORINFOEX' : undeclared identifier c:\Projects\U3D\Source\RTL\Platform\Common\Win32\IFXOSRender.cpp 49 The program's first non-comment statement is #include <windows.h>, which includes winuser.h, which defines these identifiers. In Visual Studio, I can right-click on them and go to the definition (a typedef) and from the typedef to the struct. WINAPI is defined in WinDef.h, so that seems to be working. There are no redefinitions of LPMONITORINFOEX or MONITORINFOEX in any other file. So, how can this be happening, and what can I do about it?

• Mercurial merge strategy per file type

  All: I want to use kdiff to merge all files with a certain suffix (say *.c, *.h) and I want to do two things (turn off premerge and use internal:other) for all files with another suffix (say *.mdl). The purpose of this is to allow me to employ a type of 'clobber merge' for a specific file type (ie: un-mergable files like configurations, auto-generated C, models, etc..) In my .hgrc I've tried: [merge-tools] kdiff3= clobbermerge=internal:other clobbermerge.premerge = False [merge-patterns] **.c = kdiff3 **.h = kdiff3 **.mdl = clobbermerge but it still triggers kdiff3 for all files. Thoughts? An extension of this would be to perform a 'clobber merge' on a directory - but once the syntax is clear for a file suffix, the dir should be easy.

• Trying to catch integrity error with sqlaclhemey

  I'm having problems with trying to catch a error. I'm using pyramid/sqlalchemy and made a sign up form with email as the primary key. The problem is when a duplicate email is entered it raises a IntegrityError, so I'm trying to catch that error and provide a message but no matter what I do I can't catch it(the error keeps appearing). try: new_user = Users(email, firstname, lastname, password) DBSession.add(new_user) return HTTPFound(location = request.route_url('new')) except IntegrityError: message1 = "Yikes! Your email already exists in our system. Did you forget your password?" I get the same message when I tried except exc.SQLAlchemyError (although I want to catch specific errors and not a blanket catch all). Is there something wrong with my python syntax? or is there something I need to do special in sqlalchemy to catch it?

• Exploring search options for PHP

  I have innoDB table using numerous foreign keys, but we just want to look up some basic info out of it. I've done some research but still lost. 1) How can I tell if my host has Sphinx installed already? I don't see it as an option for table storage method (i.e. innodb, myisam). 2) Zend_Search_Lucene, responsive enough for AJAX functionality of millions of records? 3) Mirror my innoDB with a myisam? Make every innodb transaction end with a write to the myisam, then use 1:1 lookups? How would I do this automagically? This should make MyISAM ACID-compliant and free(er) from corruption no? 4) PostgreSQL fulltext queries don't even look like SQL to me wtf, I don't have time to learn a new SQL syntax I need noob options 5) ???????????????????? This is high volume site on a decently-equipped VPS Thanks very much for any ideas.

• Is there any short way to load data to the properties of a class, for each column name matching the properties of the class?

  I want to load data to an instance of an object using its constructor and I write $this->property=$row["colname"] each time for each property. the mysql_fetch_object function fetches the data as an object but I am not sure if the instance of an object can be assigned to some object from inside. othwerwise I would use __construct($object) { $this=$object; } //doesn't give any syntax error Maybe I should look into iteration of properties and use foreach($object as $key => $value) $value=$object[$key]; or can I assign like $this=$object; within the constructor?

• jquery draggable/droppable issue

  Hey guys I have a drag and drop function that does not fully work. What I want to do is be able to drag and drop a picture into a div and have that picture pop up in the div. I have a list of 2 pictures right now, so I have the following function echoed for each picture. Both pictures are draggable and droppable, but the first one is the only one that appears in the div, regardless of which picture gets dragged in. I am not sure what is wrong because the jquery function seems to be unique to each picture.   I'm a VB.Net guy. (because I have to be, because the person who signs my check says so. :P) I grew up in Java and I don't generally struggle to read or write in C# when I get the chance. I came across some syntax today that I have never seen, and that I can't seem to figure out. In the following method declaration, what does < T represent? static void Foo < T (params T[] x) I have seen used in conjunction with declaring generic collections and things, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it does for this method.   I have the following problem: I am trying to retreive a sum value based on one condition. Problem is that I can't join the conditional value since my tables aren't joined. Here is my syntax: SELECT SUM(value) FROM value v join day d on v.day_id = d.day_id join budget b on d.budget_id = b.budget_id join unit u on v.unit_id = u.unit_id where #output.class = (SELECT distinct s.class FROM sale s where s.id = #output.sale_id) AND u.unit_name in ('electronics') With this sybtax I get no error but neither values. Can you please tell me where I do wrong?

• Checking if parsed date is within a date range

  So I am using a scripting language with c++-like syntax, and I am trying to think of the best way to check if a date is within range. The problem I am running into is that if the current day is in a new month, the check is failing. Here is what my code looks like: if(iMonth >= iStartMonth && iMonth <= iEndMonth) { if(iDay >= iStartDay && iDay <= iEndDay) { if(iYear >= iStartYear && iYear <= iEndYear) { bEnabled = true; return; When I have something like this: Start date: 3 27 2010 End Date: 4 15 2010 Current Date: 3 31 2010 The day check fails because if (iDay <= iEndDay) does not pass. The scripting language doesn't have a lot of time related functions, and I can't compare timestamps because I'm allowing users to put like "03:27:2010" and "04:15:2010" as start/end dates in a config file. I'm assuming I am just not thinking straight and missing an easy fix.

  I have a lot of SQL queries like this: SELECT o.Id, o.attrib1, o.attrib2 FROM table1 o WHERE o.Id IN ( SELECT DISTINCT Id FROM table1, table2, table3 WHERE ... ) These queries have to run on different database engines (MySql, Oracle, DB2, MS-Sql, Hypersonic), so I can only use common SQL syntax. Here I read, that with MySql the IN statement isn't optimized and it's really slow, so I want to switch this into a JOIN. I tried: SELECT o.Id, o.attrib1, o.attrib2 FROM table1 o, table2, table3 WHERE ... But this does not take into account the DISTINCT keyword. Question: How do I get rid of the duplicate rows using the JOIN approach?

  I have a searching system that splits the keyword into chunks and searches for it in a string like this: var regexp_school = new RegExp("(?=.*" + split_keywords[0] + ")(?=.*" + split_keywords[1] + ")(?=.*" + split_keywords[2] + ").*", "i"); I would like to modify this so that so that I would only search for it in the beginning of the words. For example if the string is: "Bbe be eb ebb beb" And the keyword is: "be eb" Then I want only these to hit "be ebb eb" In other words I want to combine the above regexp with this one: var regexp_school = new RegExp("^" + split_keywords[0], "i"); But I'm not sure how the syntax would look like. I'm also using the split fuction to split the keywords, but I dont want to set a length since I dont know how many words there are in the keyword string. split_keywords = school_keyword.split(" ", 3); If I leave the 3 out, will it have dynamic lenght or just lenght of 1? I tried doing a alert(split_keywords.lenght); But didnt get a desired response

• How do I controll clipping with non-opaque graphics-item's in Qt?

  I have a bunch of QGraphicsSvgItem's in a QGraphicsScene that are drawn connected by QGraphicsLineItem's. This show's a graph of a tree-structure. What I want to do is provide a feature where everything but a selected sub-tree becomes transparent. A kind of "highlight this sub-tree" feature. That part was easy, but the results are ugly because now the lines can be seen through the semi-transparent svg's. I am looking for some way to still clip other QGraphicsItem's in the scene to the svg item's, giving the effect that the svg's are semi-transparent windows to the background. I've been scratching my head for about 3 hours now. I know it's something really simple.

  I need to parse JavaDoc (documentation) comment syntax with Delphi 7. It is well known in the java world as "JavaDoc", but I'm actually doing this for PHP, ie, parsing JavaDoc in some PHP code. Call it PHPDoc if you want to. To see how these comments work, you can see RAD IDEs like NetBeans etc. Example of JavaDoc for addition function: /** * Adds to numbers together. * @param integer $a The first number. * @param integer $b The second number. * @return integer The resulting number. */ function add($a,$b){ return $a+$b; } Please note that the parser need not be full, ie, parsing all of the PHP code. • boolean type for while loop in bash?

  I have a cron script on a shared web host that occasionally gets killed. I'd like to make a loop in bash that tries again if it gets killed, because most of the time it will make it. I'm having trouble with the syntax for storing a boolean value :P #!/bin/bash VAR=0; while [ $VAR ]; do if nice -19 mysqldump -uuser -ppassword -h database.hostname.com --skip-opt --all --complete-insert --add-drop-table database_name > ~/file/system/path/filename.sql; then VAR=1; fi done So the script recovers from a killed process okay, but once it's run properly, the new VAR value doesn't kill the while loop. What am I doing wrong?

• An Inaccessible JavaScript Object property - Why is Firebug showing this?

  So, I'm attempting to access the content of an object and for the life of me can't figure out why I can't. I'm starting to believe that the object doesn't have the properties that Firebug indicates that it does. More likely than that I'm just not using the right syntax to access them. Give the following function: function(userData) { console.log(userData); // statement 1 console.log(userData.t_nodecontent); // statement 2 } Which generates the following FireBug output for statement 1 and unknown for statement 2. Is there something obvious that I'm overlooking in the way I'm attempting to reference the value of t_nodecontent? I'm at a loss :(

  Hi, I'm looking for a way to share some iPhone SDK source code I have with others. Goals: Share iPhone SDK source code, Objective C written in XCode. I have a good bit of source code I want to share. I'd like for it to be easy. I'd like for it to have syntax highlighting, by this I mean coloring and formatting Ideally it would allow me some room to make it "fit" into my site. I want it to look like basically another page on my site where the content is the code. It shouldn't be just a text file in other words.   I'm creating a Rails application which uses MySQL. Not just those that are not expired yet. Can anyone help me? Thanks Oh, changing < to > returns no pastes, not even the non-expired ones :(
