• Can I tell Castle Windsor to create a component in a separate AppDomain?

  I've created a multi-threaded service that uses Castle Windsor to create components to run on separate threads. I Resolve an component by name with parameters for each thread. I'm running into concurrency problems with a 3rd party library used by the components. I suspect that isolating those components in separate AppDomains will resolve the problem. • Error 404: No target servlet configured for uri

  Hi Experts, I just got done with a new Web module built with Spring Framework. Till now I was testing all the pages on my local machine using Tomcat. Today after I moved the application to Websphere, I am getting the following error: Error 404: No target servlet configured for uri is there anything I need to do in web.xml or somewhere? I deployed an EAR file on my WAS , which has another war file. Below is the output I am seeing on the console, if thats any help. The resource WEB-INF/ibm-web-bnd.xmi that is defined in URI WEB-INF/ibm-web-bnd.xmi for module analytics.war is not valid. The resource has a cross reference org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.webapplication.internal.impl.WebAppImpl@4be44be4 (eProxyURI: WEB-INF/web.xml#WebApp_ID) that cannot be resolved. • How do I store more information in a marker?

  Hello, I'm using Google Maps v3 and I build in the server side a json collection of location data. So when I receive that, I iterate through that collection and create a marker object for each and every one of them. For each of these markers, I bind them with the click event, so when the user clicks on a marker in the map, it displays an infoWindow with data related to the associated location. I have an array to store all the location got from the server that holds the retrieved json objects and their corresponding marker. The problem is that, even when I have an array that I can reference or iterate through, I need to not only get the marker object when the user clicks on them, but also the location object, that stores more information. I tried to mantain this array of objects and reference it from the calling object without success, because the function is called by the marker and not the location object. So I thought if it's possible to store more information in the google maps marker object like using a general purpose field. Please let me know if more information is needed. Thanks!

• Can I select 0 columns in SQL Server?

  I am hoping this question fares a little better than the similar Create a table without columns. Yes, I am asking about something that will strike most as pointlessly academic. It is easy to produce a SELECT result with 0 rows (but with columns), e.g. SELECT a = 1 WHERE 1 = 0. Is it possible to produce a SELECT result with 0 columns (but with rows)? e.g. something like SELECT NO COLUMNS FROM Foo. (This is not valid T-SQL.) I came across this because I wanted to insert several rows without specifying any column data for any of them. e.g. (SQL Server 2005) CREATE TABLE Bar (id INT NOT NULL IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY) INSERT INTO Bar SELECT NO COLUMNS FROM Foo -- Invalid column name 'NO'. -- An explicit value for the identity column in table 'Bar' can only be specified when a column list is used and IDENTITY_INSERT is ON. One can insert a single row without specifying any column data, e.g. INSERT INTO Foo DEFAULT VALUES. One can query for a count of rows (without retrieving actual column data from the table), e.g. SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Foo. (But that result set, of course, has a column.) • Best way for a remote web app to authenticate users in my current web app?

  So a bit of background, I'm working on an existing web application which has a set of users, who are able to log in via a traditional login screen with a user name and password, etc. Recently we've managed to score a client (who have their own Intranet site), who are wanting to be able to have their users log into their Intranet site, and then have their users click a link on their Intranet which redirects to our application and logs them into it automatically. I've had two suggestions on how to implement this so far: Create a URL which takes 2 parameters (which are "username" and "password") and have the Intranet site pass those parameters to us (our connection is via TLS so it's all encrypted). This would work fine, but it seems a little "hacky", and also means that the logins and passwords have to be the same on both systems (and having to write some kind of web service which can update the passwords for users - which also seems a bit insecure) Provide a token to the Intranet, so when the client clicks on a link on the Intranet, it sends the token to us, along with the user name (and no password) which means they're authenticated. Again, this sounds a bit hacky as isn't that essentially the same as providing everyone with the same password to log in? So to summarise, I'm after the following things: A way for the users who are already authenticated on the Intranet to log into our system without too much messing around, and without using an external system to authenticate, i.e. LDAP / Kerberos Something which isn't too specific to this client, and can easily be implemented by other Intranets to log in

• Activate COM object using website doesn't work in Windows 2003 server

  I have been trying really hard to activate and launch a COM object using an ASP.NET web application. The aspx website has a code-behind file that has a reference to this COM object (which is an actual application - a CAD software). When required, the VB code creates (or launches) the application. The complete set-up works in a Win-XP (32-bit) environment both under debugging using visual studio and when the website is accessed by an outside user (through IIS server in XP). But the same application doesn't get activated when it is hosted onto the Win-2003 (32-bit) IIS server. I get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. The way I have setup in Win-XP was to grant ASP user and Internet guest user permissions to the COM object in the DCOM Config and since the windows firewall is enabled, I add the exe file (associated with the COM object) to the exception list. For the case of Win-2003 server, I add the Network Service permission to the COM object. But the setup doesn't seem to work at all. I am not sure what I am missing and how to get the application to launch. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

• Cannot convert IAsyncResult to AsyncResult when using a service refrence

  I have a WCF service running, I added a reference to the service by using Add Service Reference in the solution explorer, and I checked the box for create asynchronous operations. My call works fine, I have a two way channel that reports back some events from the server and I am receiving the events. However, when the asynchronous task finishes in my callback handeler I get the error Unable to cast object of type 'SendAsyncResult' to type 'System.Runtime.Remoting.Messaging.AsyncResult'.   I'm working with a lot of anonymous functions, ie functions declared as part of a dictionary, aka "methods". It's getting pretty painful to debug, because I can't tell what function the errors are happening in. Vim's backtraces look like this: Error detected while processing function NamedFunction..2111..2105: line 1: E730: using List as a String This trace shows that the error occurred in the third level down the stack, on the first line of anonymous function #2105. IE NamedFunction called anonymous function #2111, which called anonymous function #2105. NamedFunction is one declared through the normal function NamedFunction() ... endfunction syntax; the others were declared using code like function dict.func() ... endfunction. So obviously I'd like to find out which function has number 2105. Assuming that it's still in scope, it's possible to find out what Dictionary entry references it by dumping all of the dictionary variables that might contain that reference. This is sort of awkward and it's difficult to be systematic about it, though I guess I could code up a function to search through all of the loaded dictionaries for a reference to that function, watching out for circular references. Although to be really thorough, it would have to search not only script-local and global dictionaries, but buffer-local dictionaries as well; is there a way to access another buffer's local variables? Anyway I'm wondering if it's possible to dump the source code for the anonymous function instead. This would be a lot easier and probably more reliable.

• Reusing service proxies

  I have a set of webservices that I connect to using Silverlight Client. I use proxies generated by "Add service reference" or SLSVCUTIL.exe tool to connect to this service. So far, I have only used one single service. Now I want to use another service on the same server. The problem is that, first service generated set of proxy classes for me, and second service will reuse the same set of classes (plus extra services/classes), e.g. CustomerService.SaveCustomer(Customer customer); OrderService.CheckCustomerLevel(Customer customer); The problem is when I add reference to the second service, I can not reuse the same namespace for the second one (VS error), and when I use a different namespace, the generated classes, although are essentially the same, reside in different namespace, hence different and I end up with two Customer classes in two different namespaces. Anyway around this? I just neeed to have two set of services, reusing the Customer class. I have already tried "reuse types in assembly / all assemblies" check mark when generating proxy classes, but it seems to have no effect. any help is greatly appreciated.

Some of the parameters in this call contain japanese text. when I printed the contents of these request parameters in the restlet service I found these chars garbled ! This is my PERL client code: my %request_headers = ( 'DocumentName' => $document_name, --> This name is a JAPANESE String 'DocumentDescription' => 'Test Japanese Chars', 'content-length' => 200, 'Content-Type' => 'application/octet-stream; charset=utf-8', 'User-Agent' => "JPCharTester", ); $s-write_request('PUT', '/test-document/TEST/TEST_DOCUMENT' , %request_headers, $content); in this call both the values of $context and $document_name are JAPANESE Strings. But ONLY the document_name is received as garbled in my backend service. • Why is my Android app camera preview running out of memory on my AVD?

  I have yet to try this on an actual device, but expect similar results. Anyway, long story short, whenever I run my app on the emulator, it crashes due to an out of memory exception. My code really is essentially the same as the camera preview API demo from google, which runs perfectly fine. • SQL statement with datetimepicker

  This should hopefully be a simple one. When using a date time picker in a windows form, I want an SQL statement to be carried out, like so: string sql = "SELECT * FROM Jobs WHERE JobDate = '" + dtpJobDate.Text + "'"; Unfortunately, this doesn't actually provide any results because the JobDate field is stored as a DateTime value. I'd like to be able to search for all records that are on this date, no matter what the time stored may be, any help? • Design/Architecture Advice Needed

  Summary: I have different components on homepage and each components shows some promotion to the user. I have Cart as one Component and depending upon content of the cart promotion are show. I have to track user online activities and send that information to Omniture for Report Generation. Now my components are loaded asynchronously basically are loaded when AjaxRequest is fired up and so there is not fix pattern or rather information on when components will appear on the webpages. Now in order to pass information to Omniture I need to call track function on $(document).(ready) and append information for each components(7 parameters are required by Omniture for each component). So in the init:config function of each component am calling Omniture and passing paramters but now no. of Omniture calls is directly proportional to no. of Components on the webpage but this is not acceptable as each call to Omniture is very expensive. Now I am looking for a way where in I can club the information about 7 parameters and than make one Call to Omniture wherein I pass those information. Points to note is that I do not know when the components are loaded and so there is no pre-defined time or no. of components that would be loaded. The thing is am calling track function when document is ready but components are loaded after call to Omniture has been made and so my question is Q: How can I collect the information for all the components and than just make one call to Omniture to send those information ? As mentioned, I do not know when the components are loaded as they are done on the Ajax Request. Hope I am able to explain my challenge and would appreciate if some one can provide from Design/Architect Solutions for the Challenge.

• Confused with an ASP.NET/WCF WSDL Parsing Error

  I have a WCF Web Service that my ASP.NET app uses. It has been working fine for quite some time. I just added in a Dev Express Grid (and the Dev Express DLLs) and a new page that uses them and now I am getting parsing errors on the WSDL. But the weird part is that it works fine on my machine but fails on the web server machine. (Both are connecting to the same web services WSDL.) • Database structure - is mySQL the right choice?

  Hi everyone, We are currently planning the database structure of a quite complex e-commerce web app that has flexibility as it's main cornerstone. Our app features a large amount of data (products) and we have run into a slight headache trying to keep performance high without compromizing normalization rules in the database, or leaving our highly beloved flexibility concept behind when integrating product options (also widely known as product attributes or parameters). Based on various references and sources available, we have made up lists on pros and cons of all major and well known database patterns to solve this. After comparing these, we have come up with two final alternatives: EAV (Entity-attribute-value model) : Pros: Database is used for all sorting. Cons: All related queries will include a number of joins between multiple tables in order to complete the collection of data. SLOB (Serialized LOB, also known as Facade?) : Pros: Very flexible. Keeping the number of necessary joins low compared to a EAV design pattern. Easy to update/add/remove data from each product. Cons: All sorting will be done by the application instead of the database. Will use lots of performance (memory?) when big datasets is processed by a large number of users. Our main questions: Which pattern/structure would you use, or maybe even a different solution? Is there better databases besides mySQL available nowadays to accomplish what we want? Thanks a lot! • ASP.NET MVC, Url Routing: Maximum Path (URL) Length

  The Scenario I have an application where we took the good old query string URL structure: ?x=1&y=2&z=3&a=4&b=5&c=6 and changed it into a path structure: /x/1/y/2/z/3/a/4/b/5/c/6 We're using ASP.NET MVC and (naturally) ASP.NET routing. The Problem The problem is that our parameters are dynamic, and there is (theoretically) no limit to the amount of parameters that we need to accommodate for. This is all fine until we got hit by the following train: HTTP Error 400.0 - Bad Request ASP.NET detected invalid characters in the URL. IIS would throw this error when our URL got past a certain length. The Nitty Gritty Here's what we found out: This is not an IIS problem IIS does have a max path length limit, but the above error is not this. Learn dot iis dot net How to Use Request Filtering Section "Filter Based on Request Limits" If the path was too long for IIS, it would throw a 404.14, not a 400.0. Besides, the IIS max path (and query) length are configurable: <requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="30000000" maxUrl="260" maxQueryString="25" /> This is an ASP.NET Problem After some poking around: IIS Forums Thread: ASP.NET 2.0 maximum URL length? http://forums.iis.net/t/1105360.aspx it turns out that this is an ASP.NET (well, .NET really) problem. The shit of the matter is that, as far as I can tell, ASP.NET cannot handle paths longer than 260 characters. The nail in the coffin in that this is confirmed by Phil the Haack himself: Stack Overflow ASP.NET url MAX_PATH limit Question ID 265251 The Question So what's the question? The question is, how big of a limitation is this? For my app, it's a deal killer. For most apps, it's probably a non-issue. What about disclosure? No where where ASP.NET Routing is mentioned have I ever heard a peep about this limitation. The fact that ASP.NET MVC uses ASP.NET routing makes the impact of this even bigger. What do you think?

• Can xjc -version be trusted?

  I've spent the day debugging an issue with JAXB getting namespaces wrong or missing (possibly related to Marshaller.JAXB_FRAGMENT, but that's not the point here). I found the problem occurs with JAXB RI 2.1.10 in my endorsed dir. It is fixed if I use JAXB RI 2.2.4 or 2.2.6 Here is what is really confusing (and what made it take so long). The problem occurs on Linux with: $ java -version java version "1.7.0_03" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.1.1pre) (7~u3-2.1.1~pre1-1ubuntu2) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.0-b10, mixed mode) $ xjc -version xjc 2.2.4 but it should work fine, if this java really uses JAXB RI 2.2.4 !! Similarly, I can't reproduce the issue on Windows with Java 1.6.0_27, which reports: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_27\bin>java -version java version "1.6.0_27" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_27-b07) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.2-b06, mixed mode) C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_27\bin>xjc -version xjc version "JAXB 2.1.10 in JDK 6" JavaTM Architecture for XML Binding(JAXB) Reference Implementation, (build JAXB 2.1.10 in JDK 6) and yet if I put 2.1.10 RI in my endorsed dir, the problem occurs. It should occur with 1.6.0_27, if that really uses JAXB RI 2.1.10. It seems to me that the problem I'm experiencing has been fixed in the reference implementation somewhere after 2.1.10 and before 2.2.4, but that neither of the 2 VM's above actually use the JAXB version they claim to. Or possibly they use the xjc they claim, but not what is in jaxb-api.jar and jaxb-impl.jar (I know there is a difference in the namespace prefix mapper property, but that won't be causing this problem). I've done these experiments on Win 7 and Ubuntu, in tomcat (no eclipse), and in eclipse (no tomcat), so I'm pretty confident I'm explaining my findings correctly. Can anyone provide any insight into what is happening? If I'm right, does anyone know what versions of JAXB the various Sun/Oracle JDKs really use?

  I am trying to write a simple program to combine coefficient and standard error estimates from a set of regression fits. I run, say, 5 regressions, and store the coefficient(s) and standard error(s) of interest into vectors (Stata matrix objects, actually). Then, I need to do the following: Find the mean value of the coefficient estimates. Combine the standard error estimates according to the formula suggested for combining results from "multiple imputation". The formula is the square root of the formula for "T" on page 6 of the following document: http://bit.ly/b05WX3 I have written Stata code that does this once, but I want to write this as a function (or "program", in Stata speak) that takes as arguments the vector (or matrix, if possible, to combine multiple estimates at once) of regression coefficient estimates and the vector (or matrix) of corresponding standard error estimates, and then generates 1 and 2 above.
