• XAMPP - allow internet connection

  I usually do my web dev on a production server, now i need to bring some work at home. I have installed XAMPP on my laptop and it seems to work perfectly fine. Most of my project involves CURL enabled, I need to make my xampp application to access the internet. Perhaps give it some IP address and Gateway. I've seen documentation how to enable CURL on xampp, yet I'm struggling to find how to make XAMPP to have internet access. I'm not asking how to access my XAMPP remotely, I'm simply asking how to give internet connection to xampp application for my CURL and other social network API to work.

• Windows XP computer can't see Windows 7 shares

  I am building a network containing notably a laptop running XP and a computer running Windows 7. Both computer have shared folders and the 7 has a shared printer, to which another laptop running 7 is able to print. If I attempt to see the laptop's network shares on the PC, everything works perfectly: I am able to see and enter the folders. The reverse operation however doesn't work. Xp doesn't see the Windows 7 PC. Other things to note: As mentioned above, another Windows 7 computer is able to see the printer and I can ping both computers from either PC. Both computers are in the same workgroup named ALLAITEMENT Password-protected shares are turned off on the PC. The 7 Computer uses 40/56 bit encryption The Windows XP laptop has SP3

• How to run Windows 7 Explorer shell with Administrator Privileges by default

  The Windows 7 shell (Explorer) can be made to run with Administrator privileges by this manual process: Kill Explorer shell by holding down Shift+Ctrl, right-clicking the Shut down button in the Start Menu, and selecting Exit Explorer Start Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc Elevate Task Manager privileges by going to Processes tab and selecting Show processes from all users Then start up a new instance of the shell by File | Run in Task Manager, typing in explorer, and selecting the Create this task with administrative privileges. After following the above process, the Windows shell will be running with administrative privileges, and any programs it launches will also have administrative privileges. This makes performing tasks that require the privilege far easier, particularly for command-line applications, which usually fail silently or with an Access denied. message rather than giving an opportunity to use UAC to elevate the process's privileges. What I'm interested in, though, is creating an account which uses a privileged shell by default, rather than having to follow this laborious process every time. How can it be done?

• DirectX works for 64-bit but not 32-bit

  I'm trying to play a game (Civilization 5) which was previously working but no longer. I believe I've narrowed it down to a DirectX issue because I get an error running dxdiag.exe in 32 bit mode. My goal (at least I believe) is to get Direct3D Acceleration "Enabled" in dxdiag (as it is in 64 bit dxdiag). A very similar issue is here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/direct3d-acceleration-is-not-available-in-windows/4c345e6e-dc68-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?page=1 The proposed answer, which looks very promising, doesn't seem to work for me. Like other users in that thread, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers does not have a SoftwareOnly key to change. I even tried manually adding it as a string and dword, to no avail. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M, and before you ask, yes I've tried updating (also uninstalling, reinstalling) my drivers. I've also tried doing the same with DirectX (and Civilization 5 for that matter). Been debugging for some 4+ hours now after a full day of work and I've run out of ideas. I'm hoping somebody knows the solution here! :) Here's what I see when I open dxdiag: DxDiag has detected that there mgiht have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time? • Excel 2003 opening files on network

  The network is laid out with an XP Pro computer as the server hosting files, then 3 XP computers connecting to it for filesharing, all on it's own router. One computer can open .xls files no problem, and she runs Office XP. The other two computers run Office 2003, and cannot open any shared files by double-clicking them, or by selecting File-Open in Excel. If the file gets copied to the local computer, it opens instantly. I have tried disabling the AV on all computers, disabling the Windows firewall, and doublechecking permissions on the server. I have also tried disabling DDE, but that doesn't help at all, just like Tools-Options-unticking Ignore other applications. Any ideas? This apparently started a couple days ago

• Windows 7 and laptop overheating

  I am using ArchLinux 99% of my working time, and laptop has absolutely no heating problems. But when it comes to using Windows 7, laptop starts heating and one can clearly hear CPU fan working like crazy. I think it has something to do with CPU itself, because on Linux I can simply manipulate with CPU governors (eg. set it to ondemand), but I can't seem to find any similar software to do the same thing as if in Linux.   This may be a simple question to answer, and I apologize if it's a duplicate. I looked through the suggestions and nothing jumped out at me as the right answer, so here goes: My office has several workstations, Macs and Windows boxes. We do have a firewall and a VPN solution, so getting in to the network from outside is easy. Likewise, we use GoToMeeting for demos and when we help our customers with their issues. But we have one workstation that has certain testing tools on it, and instead of walking across the office to this machine, I'd like to access it from my desk (and monitor it). I will need to open a command line and run commands. I could start a GoToMeeting and do it this way, but that seems overkill and clunky. Is there a simpler tool that allows pseudo-remote access within the same office/network for this kind of access?

• Ati X1600 driver problem on Mac

  Hi all, I currently own a 06' Macbook pro 1.1, and since some months I have recurrent problems of displays bug or artifacts. I searched quickly around to see that a lot of other users on Mac (iMac or Macbook pro) also have the same problem due to a problem for the X1600 video card. Apparently it's due to overheating problem, in my case even without warming a lot I have very bad display bugs such as colorful pixel lines, or glitches, and freeze and crash, all of this on Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard. I found this interesting article here talking about this problem and trying to gather people so that Apple take the serious GPU problem in consideration. In one of the comments, an user said he removed all bundle named with "radeon" and then he had no more problems under Leopard, and seems ot work fine well too on Snow Leopard. I did the same thing, I removed the bundles of the driver, restart, and no more problems, but not more 3D acceleration, which is not an acceptable solution. • Good HDMI splitter/switch solution

  I have a full HD TV which has only 2 HDMI ports on it. Since I have more than 2 devices I connect to TV (e.g. laptop, game console, DVD player), it becomes uncomfortable to plug in and plug out HDMI cables every time I need to use the relevant device. I need a cheap solution to increase the number of my HDMI ports at least to 3. What type of splitter/switch do you recommend? Does the quality of splitter matter, or do they all produce the same audio & video quality?

• Is there a way to completely flush cached AD credentials on a user workstation?

  An AD user updated their AD password, but a couple applications on their workstation appear to still be using their old AD credentials. Is there an easy way to flush out cached AD credentials on Windows (short of logging out or rebooting)? • SharePoint Item Edit Form (editform.aspx) keeps closing webparts - MOSS 2007

  We have a custom list within MOSS 2007 which sporadically closes the edit forms web part, despite the fact that the web parts property 'allow close' is unticked. The only way to make the form work again is to edit the page in SharePoint Designer and untick the option of 'web part closed', this then allows the form to function but at a seemingly random interval it will close itself again. There is quite a large user base accessing the site/list at anyone time, also note this has happened once on another list on another site collection. Has anyone else experienced this issue before or can offer any advice?

• What do I need in order to extract and combine text files from multiple ZIP files, via command line?

  I've got an interesting scripting challenge in front of me. I'm fairly certain there's a way to do it, but I feel like I'm probably lacking some particular tools and/or functional knowledge. There's some fifty-plus ZIP files that each contain, among other things, text files that need to be merged with one another. The structure is something like this: C:\Reports\FirstJob-1.zip |-MyName |-FirstJob |-1 |-[Some other folders] |-TXTReports |-English |-[Some other files] |-Report.txt C:\Reports\FirstJob-2.zip |-MyName |-FirstJob |-1 |-[Some other folders] |-TXTReports |-English |-[Some other files] |-Report.txt C:\Reports\SecondJob-1.zip |-MyName |-SecondJob |-1 |-[Some other folders] |-TXTReports |-English |-[Some other files] |-Report.txt If I had all the Report.txt files in one regular folder, and uniquely named, I could probably just write a FOR statement that targets *.txt and runs something like type filename.txt >> Consolidated.txt on each. However, these all have the same file name and are embedded deep within separate ZIP files. The potentially useful tools I currently have at my disposal are Windows XP Professional SP3, PowerShell, and WinZip. I'd rather not download or install anything else, but I do understand that third-party tools (or additional tools from Microsoft or WinZip) may be necessary. Whatever tools I use should run natively in Windows. I really don't want to have to mess with Cygwin or other emulators on this system. At the very least, I need a tool that will allow me to analyze and manipulate ZIP files from the command line. Also, are there any other particular complications to this that I've not yet thought of?

• HP Envy screen brightness .. stuck

  once in a while, the screen brightness stops responding to any reason, and stays on full brightness.. for those of you that have HP Envy, you know what this means... battery suicide. the FN+* controls don't work. i also tried going in to power settings and adjusting all modes brightness to low wend of spectrum, after saving, it has no effect.. i suppose i could try rebooting as i always just put my laptop to sleep :/ anyone came across this ?

• Troubleshooting certificate issues

  I'm trying to access my (European Parliament) Webmail from a Linux/Firefox machine at the following address and I get security warning messages explaining that the identity of the site cannot be verified (the error message is in french). But this only happens with Linux/Firefox from one machine. Here's the address: https://webmail.europarl.europa.eu/ (and I'm trying to access it from my home, not from the EP). And here's the detailed error message: webmail.europarl.europa.eu utilise un certificat de sécurité invalide. Le certificat n'est pas sûr car l'autorité délivrant le certificat est inconnue. (Code d'erreur : sec_error_unknown_issuer) So basically, if I translate, it is telling that the webmail.europarl.europa.eu certificate is invalid because the authority that delivered the certificate is unknown. I do only get this invalid certificate thing on Linux/Firefox. From a MacBookPro running Safari, I go to what looks like the correct webmail login page. From the same Linux machine, but using another user account and Chrome instead of Firefox, I go to what looks like the correct webmail login page. So there are several possibilities, here are a few ones: Firefox is right and my Linux box has been hacked Firefox is right and detecting something that neither Chrome nor Safari is detecting (like, say, my router that may be hacked) Safari on the MacBook Pro and Chrome on Linux are both correct and it is just Firefox on Linux that is wrongly stressing me when everything is normal. How do I know which one of these possibilities (or any other) is correct? How can I troubleshoot what is going on with either Linux/Firefox or with the parliament's webmail?

  Does anybody know or have a link to documentation on how the Power Manager of Windows, determines to go to the ACPI power states S1-S4? Are there any settings that can be configured? I know that by default states S1-S3 are disabled in Vista and later (they can be enabled by a group policy). Can Windows cycle through these states while for instance an application is actively running?

• Snort install issue on debian 6 with libpcre - libpcre library not found

  I've read the manual on snort.org for installing snort on Debian but am still having an issue. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I've tried installing the libpcre3 amd libpcre3-dev packages by using apt-get and also manually installing by downloading the latest version off the tcpdump website. Any ideas? Checking for pcre-compile in -l pcre...no Error! Libpcre library not found. Get it from http://www.pcre.org

I have the SATA set to IDE. When it restarts after the installation to complete the installation, it goes to a black screen and stops moving. It's been 10 minutes now.
