• Can I use jQuery Ajax in a SharePoint WebPart without having to worry about the same origin policy?

  Hi all, My current project for work involves developing a SharePoint 2007 WebPart which will be deployed by our clients. To provide a better user experience, I am "simulating" AJAX via setting the SRC attirbute of an IFRAME to be the address of an HTTP handler. These handlers are deployed to the layouts directory in the 12 hive. Although this works, I would prefer to use the $get() method of jQuery. Will this work reliably in my scenario or will I still be subject to the same origin policy? What about the scenario where the WebPart is being deployed to various places on a SharePoint farm? Will there be any problems with using $get() in that case? Thank you!

  Hello I want to know, how does the linux kernel do some stuff (receiving a tcp packet). In what order main tcp functions are called. I want to see both interrupt handler (top half), bottom half and even work done by kernel after user calls "read()". How can I get a function trace from kernel with some linear time scale? I want to get a trace from single packet, not the profile of kernel when receiving 1000th of packets. Kernel is 2.6.18 or 2.6.23 (supported in my debian). I can add some patches to it.

• Pure-JavaScript projects in NetBeans?

  This seems like it ought to be obvious, yet I can't figure it out. I do a lot of JavaScript coding, and I really like NetBeans. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to create a "JavaScript" project in NetBeans. If I go to File - New Project, my only options are "Java", "Ruby", and "NetBeans Modules". I don't want any of these. My project consists mostly of JavaScript, with a little bit of CSS. I ususally just end up creating a "Ruby" project, but this seems retarded, since I don't actually have any Ruby code. Why isn't there an option to create a "JavaScript" or "Web" project, or at least a "Generic" project that doesn't revolve around a specific language? Am I missing something here?

• How do I save a copy of the clipboard and then revert back to it?

  I'm reading words in a text box by simulating the key presses required to highligh and copy the text. When I'm done, I want the clipboard to be exactly how I found it. I was hoping I'd be able to do something like this: IDataObject clipboardBackup = Clipboard.GetDataObject(); Clipboard.Clear(); //Save other things into the clipboard here, etc// Clipboard.SetDataObject(clipboardBackup); But that doesn't seem to work. It looks like you can go the route of specifically trying for text, audio, pictures, etc. and then saving them accordingly. (I guess 'data object' is specialized like that in my example too, I was hoping it was generic.) I'd prefer not to use cases for every possible type of clipboard data, both to be more concise and to make sure I never lose the data regardless of format. Any tips for grabbing any and all of the clipboard and then restoring it?

• Why do Java/C# edge out C++ as the recommended language to learn OOP on S.O?

  I noticed after reading the answers/discussion to this question (What is the best language to learn OOP on?) - that more and more people are recommending C# or Java over C++ to learn OOP on. A simple term search on that answer page results in 10 hits for C++, 21 for C# and 27 for Java. Now, I understand that these 2 languages fix a lot of quirks and issues with C++, and looked up these resources that relate mostly to performance, JVM vs native implementation, systems focus vs applications, manual memory management vs automated et al. My question is - are there any fundamental differences in the OO capabilities of Java/C# vs C++? Or are the former recommended purely due to their generic ease of use/improvements over the latter? Thanks. PS, I'm aware of Java interface inheritance vs C++ multiple inheritance as a difference. I would consider that an implementational one rather than functional.

• How to use a CTabCtrl in a MFC dialog based application ?

  I need to do something which i expected to be was simple - create a tab control which has 2 tabs, implying 2 modes of operation for my app. When user clicks on Tab1, he'll be presented with some buttons and textboxes, and when he clicks Tab2, some other input method. I noticed that there was a CTabCtrl class thats used in MFC to add tabs. However, once I added the tab ctrl using the UI designer, I couldn't specify how many tabs there'll be using property window. Searching on the net, I found some examples but all of them required you to derive from CtabCtrl , create 2 or more child dialogs etc and to write your own custom class. My question is, since I want to do something so basic, why couldn't I do it using the familiar Add Event handler/Add member variable wizard and then handle everything else inside my app's class ? Surely, the default CTabCtrl class can do something useful without needing to derive from it ?

• Refresh layout while filling it

  Hi guys, I have an activity with a HorizontalScrollView. When it opens, I start filling this view (or rather, a container layout inside it) with another views. This is done from another thread by using handler.post. The views are added in bunches of 15, and when there are no more views to add, I start updating them with new data (this is a kind of streaming data from a server). The problem is that the scrollview is empty until all of the views are added. As soon as they are all added and start updating, the scrollview gets drawn. How do I refresh it in the process of adding views? I don't want the screen to be empty for 3 seconds while all of the views are added. Thanks a lot. UPDATE: turned out this problem is not specific for HorizontalScrollView, this is the case for any generic layout.

  I have a Microsoft Access database file connected to VB.NET. In the database table, I have a 'No.' and a 'Status' column. Then I have a textbox where I can input an integer. I also have a button, which will change the data cell in 'Status' where 'No.' = textbox.Text(), when I click it. Let's say I want the 'Status' cell to be changed to "Low". • Explanation of contribute_to_class

  I'm attempted to extend code, and have come across an issue, I don't understand a line of code. I know the outcome of it - but I don't understand how it happens and am naturally enough scared to change it. The line of code I've come across is this: MyGenericRelation().contribute_to_class(model, 'field_name') The result of this code is a field with 'field_name' is added to the 'model' and from what I gather the objects inside the field are a list of type X (part of MyGenericRelation). I'm wondering if anyone can explain how this works. As in, why do I get a list of X objects attached to 'field_name' and if does it have to be generic relations prior to contribute_to_class or would using an actual model type, say 'Y' just give me a list of Y's. To be honest, I am more interested in the affect and functionality of the contribute_to_class method.

  Hi all, I am attempting to learn about creating windows in c++, I have looked at an article about creating a wrapper class but I don't really understand it. So far I know that you can't have a class method WndProc (I dont know why) but honestly, that is all. Can somebody give an explanation, also explaining the reinterpret_cast? Here is the article.   Hi everybody, I need to set up a simple event listener to refresh a listview from once in a while. The problem is I don't know how could I generate an event. I know that for events like key or button pressing I just need to implement the handler. But in this specific case I actually need to generate the event, which will be fired everytime another running thread of my app wakes up and refreshes it's list of news from a rss feed. For example, for all Dataset components located ona TDatamodule, I would like to add some code for the BeforeOpen and the AfterOpen event to store the start and end time and send a line to a logger with the elapsed time in the AfterOpen event. I would prefer to do this dynamically (no component subclassing), so that I can add this to all existing datamodules and forms with minimal effort only when needed. Iterating all components and filtering by their type is easy, but for the components which already have event handlers assigned, I need a way to store the existing event handlers, and assign a new modified event handler which first does the logging and then will invoke the original code which was already present. Is there a design pattern which can be applied, or even some example code which shows how to implement this in Delphi?

• Multiple classes in a Python module

  I'm very new to Python (I'm coming from a JAVA background) and I'm wondering if anyone could help me with some of the Python standards. Is it a normal or "proper" practice to put multiple class in a module? I have been working with Django and started with the tutorials and they place their database model classes in the same module. Is this something that is normally done or should I stick with 1 class per module? Is their a reason I would do one over the other? Hope I'm being clear and not to generic. • NHibernate and SetSessionAuth audit columns

  We have audit columns set by triggers. For obscure security reasons predating my tenure and out of my control, we log in with a generic user, and do a 'set session authorization' to change the user to the db user of the user who is logged in. When we converted to NHibernate, it creates a whole new session and jacks everything up when we try to do a set session auth, so we turned the set session auth off... Now we are trying to find out a way to get NHibernate to let us do 'set session authorization' without recycling the session on us, so we can use our existing trigger based audit column stuff with both legacy apps, and our new NHibernate apps. It's not a ideal soloution, or the best way to do it even, but is it possible? I was hoping there was a alternate interface that allowed this kind of access. Does anyone know how to do it, or can you point me towards and good hints? Thanks, Eric-

• Visual Studio XSD Tool: Generate Collections Rather Than Arrays

  I generated some C# classes from an XSD using the Visual Studio XSD utility and it generated arrays for storing a collection of elements, rather than one of the built-in generic Collection<T> (or related) classes. None of the command line parameters mentioned in xsd /? mention anything about generating collections rather than arrays, but I know that this can be done with web service proxy classes that Visual Studio generates, so I figured it must be possible. Does anybody know how to have the XSD utility generate collection classes rather than arrays?

• Wicket app in embedded Jetty causes UnsupportedClassVersionError

Switching the target class version for my app (1.6 - 1.5) did not help. I use Sun JDK 1.6.0_17, Wicket 1.4.8, Jetty 6.1.24. I tried to debug, but the JRE classes have no debug data. The stacktrace is of no use as it happens when loading the classes into JVM. Any ideas what could be wrong? How can I find which class is causing this? Thanks, Ondra

• Strategy in storing ad-hoc numbers/constants?

  I have a need to store a number of ad-hoc figures and constants for calculation. These numbers change periodically but they are different type of values. One might be a balance, a money amount, another might be an interest rate, and yet another might be a ratio of some kind. These numbers are then used in a calculation that involve other more structured figures. I'm not certain what the best way to store these in a relational DB is - that's the choice of storage for the app. One way, I've done before, is to create a very generic table that stores the values as text. I might store the data type along with it but the consumer knows what type it is so, in situations I didn't even need to store the data type. This kind of works fine but I am not very fond of the solution. Should I break down each of the numbers into specific categories and create tables that way? For example, create Rates table, and Balances table, etc.?

• Are multiply-thrown Exceptions checked or runtime?

  I have an Exception chain in which method1 throws an Exception to method2 which throws the Exception on to main. For some reason, the compiler forces me to deal with the error in method2 and marks it as an error if I don't, indicating that it's a checked Exception. But when the same Exception is thrown further down the line to main, the compiler allows me to ignore it and doesn't display any errors. The original Exception in method1 is a ParseException, which is checked. But the method has a generic throws Exception clause in the header, and the same object is thrown to method2, which has an identical throws Exception clause. When and how does this Exception lose the status of being checked / caught by the compiler?   Hi team; I am working on the domain model for a project. I have a class named user that has a class named UserType as one of the properties. I know when i want to select all users, i will use joins to pick up all corresponding usertypes. How do i do inserts? Do i have to write a handler for userType? or can i do something like INSERT INTO users(... usertype_id ...) VALUES(... #{usertype.usertype_id}...) Please help; I have spent the whole day trying to figure this out. Am using ibatis 3.0 and am new to ibatis. Regards Josh

• Setting instance names on keyframes quickly in AS3

  Right now in Flash CS3 and up (using Actionscript 3) if you have the same instance that is used in multiple keyframes in a layer, and you decide to assign or change the instance name later, you would have to go to each keyframe and set the instance name. This is a big nuisance. Is there a quicker or better way to do this? NOTE: In AS2, you can set the name by using name property of the MovieClip in your code in the onLoad handler of the MovieClip class so it's done once and for all. Unfortunately in AS3, you are not allowed to set the name property anymore.

• Deferring signal handling in Linux

  I'm trying to figure out how to block a signal in Linux kernel 2.4 (user space) from invoking its handler, but keep it available to be handled later, preferably as soon as I re activate the handling of said signal. The function sigprocmask seem to come up in all my search results, but I can't find a good, clear description that explains whether the blocked signal gets "saved" to be handled later, and if so where and how do I handle it when I'm ready for it. Can someone please clarify what's going on, preferably with a code example? Thanks in advance.
