• Is there a Silverlight equivalent to "Application.OpenForms"?

  Basically, I'm trying to take information entered by the user on one page and print it out to another page via a "printer friendly" version, or report, of something. I have a MainPage.xaml that is, as the name suggests, my main page, but in a window there is the subpage AdCalculator.xaml where the user enters the information and PrintEstimate.xaml that is navigated to via a button on AdCalculator. I would like to be able to transfer the information entered in the textboxes from AdCalculator and print it out via text blocks in PrintEstimate. Following a lead from a colleague, I believe all I need to do is change the line Views.AdCalculator AdCalc = new Views.AdCalculator(); to Views.AdCalculator AdCalc = (AdCalculator)Application.OpenForms["AdCalculator"]; except the "Apllication.OpenForms" doesn't register. I know there are a lot of differences in the way C# code-behind is laid out for silverlight applications, so I didn't know if there was an equivalent that anyone knew about to "Application.OpenForms" that would help solve my issue or if there was any other way to go about getting my task done. I have seen some WPF projects where the code-behind has NO CODE except for the InitializeComponent method, which I believe is the right way to go and just looks clean. • grep --exclude/--include syntax (do not grep through certain files)

  I'm looking for the string "foo=" (without quotes) in text files in a directory tree. It's on a common Linux machine, I have bash shell: grep -ircl "foo=" * In the directories are also many binary files which match "foo=". As these results are not relevant and slow down the search, I want grep to skip searching these files (mostly JPEG and PNG images): how would I do that? I know there are the --exclude=PATTERN and --include=PATTERN options, but what is the pattern format? manpage of grep says: --include=PATTERN Recurse in directories only searching file matching PATTERN. --exclude=PATTERN Recurse in directories skip file matching PATTERN. Searching on grep include, grep include exclude, grep exclude and variants did not find anything relevant If there's a better way of grepping only in certain files, I'm all for it; moving the offending files is not an option, I can't search only certain directories (the directory structure is a big mess, with everything everywhere). Also, I can't install anything, so I have to do with common tools (like grep or the suggested find). • Use RegEx in Java to extract parameters in between parentheses

  I'm writing a utility to extract the names of header files from JSPs. I have no problem reading the JSPs line by line and finding the lines I need. I am having a problem extracting the specific text needed using regex. After looking at many similar questions I'm hitting a brick wall. An example of the String I'll be matching from within is: <jsp:include page="<%=Pages.getString(\"MY_HEADER\")%>" flush="true"></jsp:include> All I need is MY_HEADER for this example. Any time I have this tag: <%=Pages.getString I need what comes between this: <%=Pages.getString(\" and this: )%> Here is what I have currently (which is not working, I might add) : String currentLine; while ((currentLine = fileReader.readLine()) != null) { Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("<%=Pages\\.getString\\(\\\\\"([^\\\\]*)"); Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(currentLine); while(matcher.find()) { System.out.println(matcher.group(1).toString()); }} I need to be able to use the Java RegEx API and regex to extract those header names. The tricky part was, after being given the right regex, it had to be taken into account that the String I was feeding to the regex was always going to have two " / " characters ( (/"MY_HEADER"/) ) that needed to be escaped in the pattern.   I am having comment reply (only till one level) functionality. All comments can have as many as replies but no replies can have their further replies. So my database table structure is like below Id ParentId Comment 1 0 this is come sample comment text 2 0 this is come sample comment text 3 0 this is come sample comment text 4 1 this is come sample comment text 5 0 this is come sample comment text 6 3 this is come sample comment text 7 1 this is come sample comment text In the above structures, commentid, 1 (has 2 replies) and 3 (1 reply) has replies. So to fetch the comments and their replies, one simple method is first I fetch all the comments having ParentId as 0 and then by running a while loop fetch all the replies of that particular commentId. But that seems to be running hundreds of queries if I'll have around 200 comments on a particular record. So I want to make a query which will fetch Comments with their replies sequentially as following; Id ParentId Comment 1 0 this is come sample comment text 4 1 this is come sample comment text 7 1 this is come sample comment text 2 0 this is come sample comment text 3 0 this is come sample comment text 6 3 this is come sample comment text 5 0 this is come sample comment text I also have a comment date column in my comment table, if anyone wants to use this with comment query. So finally I want to fetch all the comments and their replies by using one single mysql query. Please tell me how I can do that? Thanks

• Using java.util.regex in Android apps - are there issues with this?

  In an Android app I have a utility class that I use to parse strings for 2 regEx's. I compile the 2 patterns in a static initializer so they only get compiled once, then activities can use the parsing methods statically. This works fine except that the first time the class is accessed and loaded, and the static initializer compiles the pattern, the UI hangs for close to a MINUTE while it compiles the pattern! After the first time, it flies on all subsequent calls to parseString(). My regEx that I am using is rather large - 847 characters, but in a normal java webapp this is lightning fast. I am testing this so far only in the emulator with a 1.5 AVD. Quite honestly I'm finding it very difficult to come up with a solution, and I'd appreciate any help.

  In python, I can alter the state of an instance by directly assigning to attributes, or by making method calls which alter the state of the attributes: foo.thing = 'baz' or: foo.thing('baz') Is there a nice way to create a class which would accept both of the above forms which scales to large numbers of attributes that behave this way? (Shortly, I'll show an example of an implementation that I don't particularly like.) If you're thinking that this is a stupid API, let me know, but perhaps a more concrete example is in order. Say I have a Document class. Document could have an attribute title. However, title may want to have some state as well (font,fontsize,justification,...), but the average user might be happy enough just setting the title to a string and being done with it ... • Single click handler for all buttons in Javascript? Is it a pattern? Whats the benefit?

  I have been told that when there are multiple buttons on the page for same purpose but targeting different item e.g. delete item on a grid of items, they say it is recommended to just register for click handler only on the top most element like 'body' and check what was clicked instead of hooking up click with every delete button. Whats the benefit of this? Creating more handlers causes problems? Is it an optimization of some sort? Is it a pattern? Does it have anything to do with performance? Where can I read more about it?
