• What kind of server configuration is best for a chatting app? [closed]

  I'm just now starting to go deeper into the world of cloud hosting and databases, and am getting overwhelmed by how deep this information goes. It's all a little too much to consume in a short amount of time. I get a lot of pricing information, but I'm unable to determine what that means to me. I'm making what you might compare to an email app. Users can send messages to one another. I just don't understand, out of the several options, what would be ideal for an app like this, where users would be constantly sending and receiving text data. With Amazon DynamoDB, I have to specify a pre-defined throughput with number of reads and writes per second. Sure I can just type 50, but I'm not exactly sure what 50 writes per second represents. I'm trying to determine what would be the most cost efficient solution, and I want to know what a throughput of 50 reads/writes/second compares to. Is that a high number? What is a good throughput number for a message sending app with say 50,000 daily users? I'm just providing specific numbers so I can understand what these throughput numbers represent. 100 transactions/second to me seems like a small number since I'm not familiar with this stuff, so I'm just looking to bring everything in context. What would 100 read/write/second be useful for? Are there any average example values available? And I'm not sure what each service is good for. For a message sending app, is there any reason I'd want to choose say Amazon DynamoDB over Google App Engine? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

• Portforwarding Combine Several Ports

  Hi I got a Raspberry Pi at A.A.A.B in my local network and I have set up a DMZ on my router so that any incoming traffic that comes to my router gets redirected to my raspberry pi wich I can connect via NO-IP adress. The problem is that I want to set up portforwarding since i got several services running on my Pi like SSH, torrent webgui, webalbum, etc. I had this already done before long time ago, but I forgot a bit the syntax and cant get to set it up. Router Help says: The Application allows you to do port forwarding, but only have the ports open when data flowing out of the trigger ports. When a program sends data out on outgoing ports called trigger ports, the device then allows incoming data on the open ports specified in your port triggering configuration. 1.Trigger Port Start Trigger Port Start Specify the start port on the device that would trigger the device to open ports for incoming data. 2.Trigger Port End Specify the end port on the device that would trigger the device to open ports for incoming data. You can enter a port number the same as the trigger port start or enter a larger port number to specify a port range. 3.Trigger Traffic Protocol Type Select the trigger traffic type. Open Port Specify all the ports to be opened. It's content could be: A single port only. A port range only. Start open port number and end port number should be separated by "-" . Combined several single port and several port ranges. Each single port or port range should be separated by "," . Open Traffic Protocol Type Select the open traffic type.   I have been trying to do some work in excel, but i seem to be stuck on one point in colum "A" i have: a, b, c, d, e in colum "B" i have: done, started, completed in colum "C" to colum "S" i have: some "X"'s but not in all fields. So my question is how do i do the following foreach row in excel.A Where Bx is done count("X", $row) I have tried pivot, countif, sumproduct but i cant seem to get it to work, any ideas?

• Sql Server huge tables with no rows

  I have a Sql Server database that has a few tables with zero row count but take up a combined 10 GB of space. I can see this by doing right-click/properties on the tables in question (data space is huge, between 1 and 6 GB, and row count is zero on these tables). I have no clue what could be causing this as I would assume zero rows would mean nearly zero space taken. Any ideas?

  I'm looking for an easy way to produce nicely formatted PDF documents using a subset of data available in a spreadsheet. Ideally, I would be able to produce one or more PDF documents for each row int e spreadsheet. Each row contains scientific data about a sample. There are numbers, text and images in the Spreadsheet that need to be reformatted in a nice way in a PDF. Ideally, the solution would be a piece of software that a non-technical but highly intelligent scientist could operate.

• HTMLUNIT Facebook javascript warning

  Hi I am trying to create simple application that would be able to search people on facebook using given e-mail. I am already able to log into an account using the HTMLunit tool and even create a page, which should throw result of my search. But when I try to print the result as XML the file is missing some blocks of javascript results (I can tell that they are missing by comparing file created by my application and source code, that can be viewed by using IE) Is there any way around this? I just need to get the same result IE's showsource function does. Thanks a lot. • Problem compiling hive with ant

  I compiling with Solaris 10 SPARC, jdk 1.6 from Sun, Ant 1.7.1 from OpenCSW. I have no problem running hadoop 0.17.2.1 However, I have problem compiling/integrating hive with the error 'cannot find symbol', although I followed the tutorial. I have the hive source code from SVN exactly from tutorial. How can I know the hive version I compiling and how can I compile against hadoop 0.17.2.1? Please advice. I have ran into a problem with CimType. If I put a LinearLayout with horizontal orientation it spans completely but if I change it to vertical the same problem occurs. I need a relative layout in the table row because I need to something like this: Value Detail MoreDetail. Any ideas on getting the relative layout to span the table row?

• Android: Strange out of memory issue

  I am not sure where to start to explain this one. I have a list view with a couple image buttons on each row. When you click the list row, it launches a new activity. If you review some of my other posts, I have had to build my own tabs because of an issue w/ the camera layout. The activity that gets launched for result is a map. If I click on my button to launch the image preview (load an image off the sd card) the application returns from the activity back to the listview activity to the result handler to relaunch my new activity which is nothing more than an image widget. So here is the issue, the image preview on the list view is being done w/ the cursor & listadapter. This makes it pretty simple, but I am not sure how I can put a resized (i.e. smaller bit size not pixel) image as the src for the imgbutton on the fly. So I just resized the image that came off the phone camera. The issue is that I get an out of memory error when it tries to go back and re-launch the 2nd activity. ** My question : is there a way I can build the list adapter easily row by row, where I can resize on the fly (bit wise)? - this would be preferable as I also need to make some changes to the properties of the widgets/elements in each row as I am unable to select a row w/ touch screen b/c of focus issue. (I can use roller ball). ** I know I can do an out of band resize and save of my image, but that is not really what I want to do, but some sample code for that would be nice if that is your suggestion. As soon as I disabled the image on the listview it worked fine again.   I have a WPF DataGrid. I read a csv file and build an ObservableCollection of objects. I set the DataGrid.ItemsSource to the Collection. I would like to then force a RowValidation on every row in the DataGrid. If I, playing user, edit a cell, the RowValidation fires, all is well. But the Validation does not fire on the initial load. Is there some way I can call ??ValidateRow?? on a row? on every row? (C#, WPF, VS2008, etc)

  I have two foreach statements. The variable from one one is somehow getting into another and i'm not sure how to fix it.   An alternative title might be: Check for existence of multiple rows? Using a combination of SQL and C# I want a method to return true if all products in a list exist in a table. If it can be done in all in SQL that would be preferable. I have written a method that returns whether a single productID exists using the following SQL: SELECT productID FROM Products WHERE ProductID = @productID If this returns a row, then the c# method returns true, false otherwise. Now I'm wondering if I have a list of product IDs (not a huge list mind you, normally under 20). How can I write a query that will return a row if all the product id's exist and no row if one or more product id's does not exist? (Maybe something involving "IN" like: SELECT * FROM Products WHERE ProductID IN (1, 10, 100))

I have added some logging to the decode() method of my custom component and I can see that the parameters entered by the user are being posted back with the request, however these parameters are not used to update the data model. Why does the test case with columns declared in the facelet page works correctly (ie the data model is correctly updated by JSF) where the same does not happen when the columns are created at runtime using the encodeBegin() method? Is there any method I need to invoke or interface I need to extend in order to ensure the data model is correctly updated? I am using this test case to address the issue that is appearing in a much more complex component, therefore I can't achieve the same functionality using a facelet composite component. Please note that this has been done using NetBeans 6.8, JRE 1.6.0u18, GlassFish 3.0. Thanks for your help.

  I would like to resize a Java BufferedImage, making it smaller vertically but without using any type of averaging, so that if a pixel-row is "blank" (white) in the source image, there will be a white pixel-row in the corresponding position of the destination image: the "min" operation. The default algorithms (specified in getScaledInstance) do not allow me a fine-grained enough control. I would like to implement the following logic: for each pixel row in the w-pixels wide destination image, d = pixel[w] find the corresponding j pixel rows of the source image, s[][] = pixel[j][w] write the new line of pixels, so that d[i] = min(s[j][i]) over all j, i I have been reading on RescaleOp, but have not figured out how to implement this functionality -- it is admittedly a weird type of scaling. Can anyone provide me pointers on how to do this? In the worse case, I figure I can just reserve the destination ImageBuffer and copy the pixels following the pseudocode, but I was wondering if there is better way.

Simple I have a UITableView with each cell containing a UITextField. When I´m editing a cell (UITextField) and hit Return Key, a new row is inserted under the current cell. After that I reloadData on the TableView, the new row is showed. Everything is OK here. Now to my problem, I want to [UITextField becomeFirstResponder] on the newest added row. But I could not find anyway to accomplish this. I could post code but didn't find that necessary. Cheers.

• MVVM Good Design. DataSet or a RowViewModel

  I have just started learning MVVM and having a dilemna. If I have a a main ViewModel and inside this model I have a number of datasets. Now should I be creating a new ViewModel for each row inside the dataset? Or expose the DataSet itself as a DependencyProperty? For now the dataset has about 20 rows inside it, and the thought of iterating through each row to create a ViewModel binding to each row.... might not be the best option for performance reasons and memory reasons in the future, like when there are 1000+ rows. Should I still go ahead and create a RowViewModel and iterate through the dataset? And have an ObservableCollection of it or just expose the dataset? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What does the colon before "new" mean? I want the trigger to insert the new row with the next value of the sequence as ID whatever the supplied value of "new.id" is. I imagine that the WHEN statement makes the trigger to only insert the new row if the supplied ID is NULL (and it will not insert, or will fail, otherwise). Could I just remove the WHEN statement in order for the trigger to always insert using the next value of the sequence?
