  • Hobbyist programmer releasing software with a donate button

    I'd like to start this with a disclaimer that I realize that a full, clear-cut answer should be sought out by a lawyer. I am more so curious about what other users of this community have done Say that I had a small program that I had developed for fun, that I wished to release to the public. I'll drop it out there with one of the various open-source licenses, and probably put it up on SourceForge or Git in case if anybody should ever want to fork/maintain/check out code. Also say that I wanted to accept donations for the project, with absolutely 0 expectation that people will send any money. However, if somebody donated in order to buy me a beer or a pizza for the work that they liked, I would accept gladly. The question, then, is what are the general requirements of accepting donations? Can it go into a personal account with no questions asked as a "gift," or do I need to setup an LLC to avoid any taxation issues? (US citizen here). Again, yes this should be lawyer discussed, but I also know that many projects that I see have the ability to donate, and assume that the community probably has a decent amount of experience in this regard.

  • ubiquity "hangs" after hitting first "forward" button

    I've been trying to install Ubuntu but, no matter what I try (wifi connected, wifi not connected, disk blank, disk prepartitioned...), it just "hangs" at the first window (pick your language) with a non-stop hourglass after hitting "forward". This is on a Stinkpad T42. Shouldn't ubiquity at least tell me what's going on? I tried to find a log but /var/log/installer* isn't present. Initiating ubiquity from command line doesn't provide any debug info either. Even when using --debug or other combinations.

  • Oracle Brings Java to iOS Devices (and Android too)

    Java developer, did you ever wish that you can take your Java skills and apply them to building applications for iOS mobile devices? Well, now you can! With the new Oracle ADF Mobile solution, Oracle has created a unique technology that allows developers to use the Java language and develop applications that install and run on both iOS and Android mobile devices. The solution is based on a thin native container that installs as part of your application. The container is able to run the same application you develop unchanged on both Android and iOS devices. One part of the container is a headless lightweight JVM based on the Java ME CDC technology. This allows the execution of Java code on your mobile device. Java is used for building business logic, accessing local SQLite encrypted database, and invoking and interacting with remote services. Java concept on the UI too To further help transition Java developers to mobile developers, ADF Mobile borrows familiar concepts from the world of JSF to make the UI development experience simpler. The user interface layer of Oracle ADF Mobile is rendered with HTML5 which delivers native user experience on the devices, including animations and gesture support. Using a set of rich components, developers can create mobile pages without needing to write low level HTML5 and JavaScript code.   • Dash home button in unity5 of new ubuntu 12.04lts

    If I click on the dash home icon nothings come up. It's as if it's not responding, but just above the dash home icon, I can see close, minimize and restore buttons. I have tried all the links present in this forum, so please don't suggest these: sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity unity --reset pkill -f unity-applications-daemon None of those worked. I am facing this problem after upgrading to 12.04 LTS.

    I have a bilingual site in Drupal. The problem is that I hate the language switch block taking up so much space (sometimes the only thing in the sidebar is the language switch block). So what I would love to have is language switch menu item, that would point to the other language (other then the current one). Something like this: | Home | Projects | BlaBla | | Cesky | after swith: | Domu | Projekty | Blabla | | English | Is that possible without writing a whole new module?
