In IE, if body (or another html div has focus), then you keypress & click on flash at the same time, then release... a keyup event is never fired. It is not fired in javascript or in flash. Where is this keyup event? • SQL Server 08 Express error when connecting to localhost - "Timeout expired". Works with ::1 or 127

  EDIT New info: Navigating to localhost:1434 in Chrome gives me an "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE", while other ports give me an "Oops! This link appears to be broken". So it seems to binding ok there? So here's my setup so far: I've configured Windows Firewall to allow TCP on 1433 and UDP on 1434. I've set up SQL Server to use any IP on Port 1433 (using the SQL Server Configuration Manager). My hosts file contains the default entries ("127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost"). I sometimes have a debug session of Visual Web Developer running a webserver, but it's on a specific port (localhost:5XXXX). What I've tried: I CAN ping localhost in a cmd prompt. I CAN connect to the database through SSMS if I specify 127.0.0.1 or ::1 as the server name. I CAN'T connect to the database through SSMS (or ADO.NET) if I specify localhost as the server name. I've tried both Windows and SQL Authentication The error I get is the standard Can't connect to localhost. Additional Information -- Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft Sql Server) Other considerations: Stopping the Visual Web Developer web server from the taskbar doesn't affect the sql problem. The SQL error log says that it's listening on some piped name url at start up (I don't see how this would affect localhost but not 127.0.0.1 though). I could probably just use 127.0.0.1 everywhere, but it scares me that localhost isn't working and I'd like to figure out why. I'm not much of a networking or sql server guy so I'm stuck. If you want me to try anything to help diagnose just put it in a comment and I'll give it a go. • java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

  I am getting the following error trying to read from a socket. I'm doing a readInt() on that InputStream, and I am getting this error. Perusing the documentation this suggests that the client part of the connection closed the connection. In this scenario, I am the server. I have access to the client log files and it is not closing the connection, and in fact its log files suggest I am closing the connection. So does anybody have an idea why this is happening? What else to check for? Does this arise when there are local resources that are perhaps reaching thresholds? Many thanks, Darryl

• How do I run my C# application in scheduled tasks when I am not logged in

  I have a C# console application that just processes data. The problem is that when I log off, the console application ends. If I schedule the application to run at a set time and I am not logged in, the application does not run at all. I can run it interactively by double clicking the exe and I can open scheduled tasks and run it by right clicking and selecting run. As soon as I log out, the application ends. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

• Consuming "Event Tracing for Windows" events

  An answer to this question has led me to look into using "Event Tracing for Windows" for our tracing needs. I have come across NTrace, which seems to be a good way to produce ETW events from C# code (using the XP-compatible "classic provider" model). However, I am unable to find an easy way to consume these events - to see them in real-time and/or log them to a file. The only way I have found is that described in the NTrace documentation: using a tool which is only available as part of the Windows DDK. In the case of a complex problem in the field, we may need to ask the user to produce a file containing a trace. We can't ask users to download the DDK or carry out a number of complex operations in order to do this. Is there a straightforward, user-friendly way to log ETW events to a file? Also, is it possible for someone to consume ETW events on Windows Vista/7 if they are not running as administrator?

• SSIS package randomly hangs during execution

  Hi Guys, I am having an ongoing and painful problem with an SSIS package. The package runs every 5 minutes as an SQL Agent Job and every 2-10 days the package will start running and never stop (thus preventing further executions). If I stop the hung job manually it will begin working perfectly again in the next 5 minute interval. The SSIS package is for moving data from an Oracle database to a MSSQL 2005 database. It has 7 steps: Step 1 calls an Oracle Stored Procedure to prepare the temporary tables inside ORACLE Steps 2-6 process the data from the ORACLE tables to the MSSQL tables ORACLE - MSSQL Step 7 calls an Oracle Stored Procedure to clear the ORACLE temporary tables I suspect that the issue is caused by a communications error between the MSSQL server and the ORACLE server. Both the MSSQL database and Agent/package run on one machine with the ORACLE database running over the network. • Single Sign On for a Web App

  I have been trying to understand how this problem is solved for over a month now. I really need to come up with a general approach that works -- I'm basically the only resource who can do it. I have a theory, but I'm just not sure it's the easiest (or correct) approach and I haven't been able to find any information to support my ideas. Here's the scenario: 1) You have a complex web application that offers secure content on a subscription basis. 2) Users are required to log in to your application with user name and password. 3) You sell to large corporations, which already have a corporate authentication technology (for example, Active Directory). 4) You would like to integrate with the corporate authentication mechanism to allow their users to log onto your Web App without having to enter their user name and password. Now, any solution you come up with will have to provide a mechanism for: adding new users removing users changing user information allowing users to log in Ideally, all these would happen "automagically" when the corporate customer made the corresponding changes to their own authentication. Now, I have a theory that the way to do this (at least for Active Directory) would be for me to write a client-side app that integrates with the customer's Active Directory to track the targeted changes, and then communicate those changes to my Web App. I think that if this communication were done via Web Services offered by my web app, then it would maintain an unhackable level of security, which would obviously be a requirement for these corporate customers. I've found some information about a Microsoft product called Active Directory Federation Service (ADFS) which may or may not be the right approach for me. It seems to be a bit bulky and have some requirements that might not work for all customers. For other existing ID scenarios (like Athens and Shibboleth), I don't think a client application is necessary. It's probably just a matter of tying into the existing ID services. I would appreciate any advice anyone has on anything I've mentioned here. In particular, if you can tell me if my theory is correct about providing a client-side app that communicates with server-side Web Services, or if I'm totally going in the wrong direction. Also, if you could point me at any web sites or articles that explain how to do this, I'd really appreciate it. My research has not turned up much so far. Finally, if you could let me know of any Web applications that currently offer this service (particularly as tied to a corporate Active Directory), I would be very grateful. I am wondering if other B2B Web app's like salesforce.com, or hoovers.com offer a similar service for their corporate customers. I hate being in the dark and would greatly appreciate any light you can shed ... Jeremy

  I've got 5 email domains with multiple email addresses on each domain. Traditional webmail clients only seem to allow you to browse a single account at a time (ie, you log into that account). With over 20 email addresses I need to monitor, this is obviously a major time sink. Is there a (preferably OSS, unix-based) webmail client that simulates a desktop email client, ie I log in once and can access all the email addresses from a central control panel? I've considered using a ticket system but that is overkill and not really used to my needs.

• Rails cookie session sharing and "www.example.com" or "example.com" problem

  When people access my app on www.example.com and log in, they get a cookie. I'm using the cookie option to store session on Rails. Accessing example.com (without the www), they must log in again, because Firefox does not recognize the previous session. So, what do you think is the best way to avoid this? I guess I will use a small .htaccess rule (Apache + Passenger) like this: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example\.com RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=permanent,L] Do you guys think that is a good solution?

• mysql never releases memory

  I have a production server clocking about 4 million page views per month. The server has got 8GB of RAM and mysql acts as a database. I am facing problems in handling mysql to take this load. I need to restart mysql twice a day to handle this thing. The problem with mysql is that it starts with some particular occupation, the memory consumed by mysql keeps on increasing untill it reaches the maximum it can consume and then mysql stops responding slowly or does not respond at all, which freezes the server. All my tables are indexed properly and there are no long queries. I need some one to help on how to go about debugging what to do here. All my tables are myisam. I have tried configuring the parameters key_buffer etc but to no rescue. Any sort of help is greatly appreciated. Any thoughts? I have re installed glassfish and NetBeans but it all seems the same. I think this started happening after I had to force-restart my computer with NetBeans stil open and the app deployed, but it's hard to know for sure if this was the real catalyst. Any thoughts or help is appreciated thanks. Is it an app error? if so why no errors in the log are shown?

• SQL Server 08 Express error when connecting to localhost - "Timeout expired". Works with ::1 or 127.0.0.1

  EDIT New info: Navigating to localhost:1434 in Chrome gives me an "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE", while other ports give me an "Oops! This link appears to be broken". So it seems to binding ok there? So here's my setup so far: I've configured Windows Firewall to allow TCP on 1433 and UDP on 1434. I've set up SQL Server to use any IP on Port 1433 (using the SQL Server Configuration Manager). My hosts file contains the default entries ("127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost"). I sometimes have a debug session of Visual Web Developer running a webserver, but it's on a specific port (localhost:5XXXX). What I've tried: I CAN ping localhost in a cmd prompt. I CAN connect to the database through SSMS if I specify 127.0.0.1 or ::1 as the server name. I CAN'T connect to the database through SSMS (or ADO.NET) if I specify localhost as the server name. I've tried both Windows and SQL Authentication The error I get is the standard Can't connect to localhost. Additional Information -- Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft Sql Server) Other considerations: Stopping the Visual Web Developer web server from the taskbar doesn't affect the sql problem. The SQL error log says that it's listening on some piped name url at start up (I don't see how this would affect localhost but not 127.0.0.1 though). I could probably just use 127.0.0.1 everywhere, but it scares me that localhost isn't working and I'd like to figure out why. I'm not much of a networking or sql server guy so I'm stuck. If you want me to try anything to help diagnose just put it in a comment and I'll give it a go.   I've had fine luck using SQLite with straight, direct SQL in Android, but this is the first time I'm wrapping a DB in a ContentProvider. I keep getting a null pointer exception when calling getWritableDatabase() or getReadableDatabase(). • Using Android SAXParser, one my my XML Elements is mysteriously breaking in half.

  And its not '&' Im using the SAXParser object do parse the actual XML. This is normally done by passing a URL to the XMLReader.Parse method. Because my XML is coming from a POST request to a webservice, I am saving that result as a String and then employing StringReader / InputSource to feed this string back to the XMLReader.Parse method. However, something strange is happening at the 2001st character of the XMLstring. The 'characters' method of the document handler is being called TWICE in between the startElement and endElement methods, effectively breaking my string (in this case a project title) into two pieces. Because I am instantiating objects in my characters method, I am getting two objects instead of one. This line, about 2000 chars into the string fires 'characters' two times, breaking between "Lower" and "Level" <title>SUMC-BOOKSTORE, LOWER LEVEL RENOVATIONS</title> When I bypass the StringReader / InputSource workaround and feed a flat XML file to XMLReader.Parse, it works absolutely fine. Something about StringReader and or InputSource is somehow screwing this up.   My application works just fine until, in some unidentified conditions, it begins throwing this errors: When these errors start appearing, they appear in all over the application, no matter the code is built using ObjectDataSource or SqlDataSource. However, apparently, if the code uses some "classic", code-behind data-binding, that code does not throw errors (they do not show in the application event log), the page is displayed but it does not contain any data.... • Failing Sata HDD

  I think my HDD is fried... Could someone confirm or help me restore it? I was using Hardware RAID 1 Configuration [2 x 160GB SATA HDD] on a CentOS 4 Installation. All of a sudden I started seeing bad sectors on the second HDD which stopped being mirrored.   Hi, I want to create a layout in such a way that on top edittext and button should be there in one row. The search text I enter in editext and click on search button. Then I want to display a custom list view where each row contains image and text.(As per the API demos example list14 I have tried). But when I run the application, button and edittext are being added to each row (i.e., Each row contains a image, text, editext, button. Can Any one guide how to resolve this issue.
