• Documentation for installing and running hadoop 2.2 on Windows

  With the latest release of Hadoop 2.2 I see that the release notes mentions that this version has significant improvements for running Hadoop on Windows. I downloaded Hadoop 2.2 yesterday and I saw lot of .cmd file alon with .sh files which ensures that this version has scripts and batch files for running Hadoop on Windows environment. However while looking at the Apache Hadoop documentation I couldn't find any step-by-step instructions on how to install and run this newer version on Windows. Besides this it looks like that the newer version has YARN architecture embedded in it and the old configurations provided on some of the tutorials online may be outdated and not applicable anymore. Is there any good documentation for Hadoop 2.2 available online ? I want it specifically for running Hadoop under Windows.

• Stocket server crashing with unhandled exception

  We have a c# (3.5 framework) socket server which is a console app, after about 3000 connections (or less, it's quite random), we get an unhandled exception which crashes the app completely. We're really struggling to find out what's happening and where, the only info we get is below, can anyone shed any light? • Process for Upgrading from RedBean 3.5 to RedBean 4

  I am currently using RedBean version 3.5. I think I would like to move to the latest version of RedBean, version 4. I have found no documentation about upgrade process and have a number of significant questions: Is my RedBean 3.5 database schema compatible 4, or will up have to migrate all of the tables to some new format? Is any of my RedBean 3.5 code compatible with version 4, or wouldI need to rewrite all of my code that uses RedBean 3.5? Would it make more sense to upgrade to Doctrine? As a side note, I am also feeling concerned about RedBean's drop of support for Composer, which I have found to be über helpful in managing the various versions of libraries I am using.

• Trouble installing R-2.15.2 on Fedora 14

  I need to install R-2.15.2, the latest version. I tried using blah> sudo yum install R to install R, but for whatever reason (maybe because it's an old version of Fedora?) my system thinks R version 13 is the most recent. So, I downloaded the .tar.gz file from R's site and used the following: blah> tar -xvf R-2.15.2.tar.gz This successfully unzipped the file. I then ran: blah> ./configure blah/R-2.15.2> ls ChangeLog COPYING Makeconf.in ONEWS src VERSION-NICK config.log doc Makefile.fw OONEWS SVN-REVISION config.site etc Makefile.in po tests configure INSTALL NEWS README tools configure.ac m4 NEWS.pdf share VERSION As you can see, makefiles are present. However, when I run "make" within the R folder, I get the following error: blah/R-2.15.2> make make: No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. Is there any way I can fix this issue? I'm guessing people will recommend updating Fedora, but is there another way?

  Android SDK Manager complains "WARNING: Java not found in your path". Instead of using the information from Windows registry, the software tries to search Java in the default installation folders, and fails (I don't install software in program files because I don't like space characters in my paths). Of course I know how to modify the %PATH% environment variable. The question is — which Java does it need? After installing the latest JDK, I’ve got 4 distinct versions of java.exe file, in the following 4 folders: system32, jre6\bin, jdk1.6.0_26\bin, and jdk1.6.0_26\jre\bin. Size ranges from 145184 to 171808. All of them print version “1.6.0_26” when launched with the “-version” argument. The one in system32 has .exe version “6.0.250.6”, the rest of them is “6.0.260.3”. All 4 files are different (I’ve calculated the MD5 checksums). Q1. Which folder should I add to %PATH% to make the Android SDK happy? Q2. Why does Oracle build that many variants of java.exe of the same version for the same platform? Thanks in advance! P.S. I'm using Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium, and downloaded the 64-bit version of JDK, jdk-6u26-windows-x64.exe.

  Hi, This is a fairly simple licensing question that has me confused. We have 3 servers: SERVER1,SERVER2,SERVER3 running on Windows Server 2003. We have 25 users. Do I need to buy 75 user licenses for the users to access all the servers or can I get by with 25? If I then upgrade 1 server to Windows Server 2008, do I need to buy a new set of user licenses. If I then upgrade the other 2, do I then need to buy 2 more sets of user licenses? Sorry for the confusion!

• .NET & Worflow, SqlTrackingQuery.GetWorkflows() on wire correct - presented object not

  With windows workflow when using the tracking service, the SqlTrackingQuery.GetWorkflows() method returns correctly the workflow type and assembly version on the wire from the DB query - but when one comes to query the returned SqlTrackingWorkflowInstance object it's WorkflowType.AssemblyQualifiedName property is returned as the current assembly version of the workflow type (i.e. it looks to matching on FQ type name only and not version). Anyone know how to get to the actual returned data (other than either a custom query or hook)?

• VB.Net 2008 IDE hanging - MSVB7.dll eating 100% CPU when editing code

  I am having a problem with msvb7.dll eating 50%+ cpu on my dual core system. This usually lasts 10-30 seconds or so, during which time the IDE is non-responsive. This occurs when I do pretty much anything in the text editor, and can be replicated by simply adding blank lines to a function, and then deleting them. Or pasting some code. Or... lotsa stuff. SP1 installed I had DevExpress' refactor/coderush, components, and codeit.right installed, but have removed all 3 of them. (I had installed the latest version of Refactor Pro! (9.3.4), perhaps the day before) I have tried a VS.NET Repair. There is a kb that referenced some cpu destroying with vb, but it was included in SP1 Also: The solution consists of ~30 VB projects and 2 C# projects 8 other developers aren't having any issues with this (or at least not the SAME issues, we all have em) Clean get from TFS was done Project builds properly, can can even debug. This doesn't seem to happen on really small solutions, but perhaps it does and it just goes away super quick. Any clues at all as to what might be causing this, or how to fix it? I REALLY don't want to lose another day uninstalling and reinstalling and patching and so on =) If that even fixes it. • Run Windows in Ubuntu with VMware Player

  Are you an enthusiast who loves their Ubuntu Linux experience but still needs to use Windows programs?  Here’s how you can get the full Windows experience on Ubuntu with the free VMware Player. Linux has become increasingly consumer friendly, but still, the wide majority of commercial software is only available for Windows and Macs.  Dual-booting between Windows and Linux has been a popular option for years, but this is a frustrating solution since you have to reboot into the other operating system each time you want to run a specific application.  With virtualization, you’ll never have to make this tradeoff.  VMware Player makes it quick and easy to install any edition of Windows in a virtual machine.  With VMware’s great integration tools, you can copy and paste between your Linux and Windows programs and even run native Windows applications side-by-side with Linux ones. Getting Started Download the latest version of VMware Player for Linux, and select either the 32-bit or 64-bit version, depending on your system.  VMware Player is a free download, but requires registration.  Sign in with your VMware account, or create a new one if you don’t already have one. VMware Player is fairly easy to install on Linux, but you will need to start out the installation from the terminal.  First, enter the following to make sure the installer is marked as executable, substituting version/build_number for the version number on the end of the file you downloaded. chmod +x ./VMware-Player-version/build_number.bundle Then, enter the following to start the install, again substituting your version number: gksudo bash ./VMware-Player-version/build_number.bundle You may have to enter your administrator password to start the installation, and then the VMware Player graphical installer will open.  Choose whether you want to check for product updates and submit usage data to VMware, and then proceed with the install as normal. VMware Player installed in only a few minutes in our tests, and was immediately ready to run, no reboot required.  You can now launch it from your Ubuntu menu: click Applications \ System Tools \ VMware Player. You’ll need to accept the license agreement the first time you run it. Welcome to VMware Player!  Now you can create new virtual machines and run pre-built ones on your Ubuntu desktop. Install Windows in VMware Player on Ubuntu Now that you’ve got VMware setup, it’s time to put it to work.  Click the Create a New Virtual Machine as above to start making a Windows virtual machine. In the dialog that opens, select your installer disk or ISO image file that you want to install Windows from.  In this example, we’re select a Windows 7 ISO.  VMware will automatically detect the operating system on the disk or image.  Click Next to continue. Enter your Windows product key, select the edition of Windows to install, and enter your name and password. You can leave the product key field blank and enter it later.  VMware will ask if you want to continue without a product key, so just click Yes to continue. Now enter a name for your virtual machine and select where you want to save it.  Note: This will take up at least 15Gb of space on your hard drive during the install, so make sure to save it on a drive with sufficient storage space. You can choose how large you want your virtual hard drive to be; the default is 40Gb, but you can choose a different size if you wish.  The entire amount will not be used up on your hard drive initially, but the virtual drive will increase in size up to your maximum as you add files.  Additionally, you can choose if you want the virtual disk stored as a single file or as multiple files.  You will see the best performance by keeping the virtual disk as one file, but the virtual machine will be more portable if it is broken into smaller files, so choose the option that will work best for your needs. Finally, review your settings, and if everything looks good, click Finish to create the virtual machine. VMware will take over now, and install Windows without any further input using its Easy Install.  This is one of VMware’s best features, and is the main reason we find it the easiest desktop virtualization solution to use.   Installing VMware Tools VMware Player doesn’t include the VMware Tools by default; instead, it automatically downloads them for the operating system you’re installing.  Once you’ve downloaded them, it will use those tools anytime you install that OS.  If this is your first Windows virtual machine to install, you may be prompted to download and install them while Windows is installing.  Click Download and Install so your Easy Install will finish successfully. VMware will then download and install the tools.  You may need to enter your administrative password to complete the install. Other than this, you can leave your Windows install unattended; VMware will get everything installed and running on its own. Our test setup took about 30 minutes, and when it was done we were greeted with the Windows desktop ready to use, complete with drivers and the VMware tools.  The only thing missing was the Aero glass feature.  VMware Player is supposed to support the Aero glass effects in virtual machines, and although this works every time when we use VMware Player on Windows, we could not get it to work in Linux.  Other than that, Windows is fully ready to use.  You can copy and paste text, images, or files between Ubuntu and Windows, or simply drag-and-drop files between the two. Unity Mode Using Windows in a window is awkward, and makes your Windows programs feel out of place and hard to use.  This is where Unity mode comes in.  Click Virtual Machine in VMware’s menu, and select Enter Unity. Your Windows desktop will now disappear, and you’ll see a new Windows menu underneath your Ubuntu menu.  This works the same as your Windows Start Menu, and you can open your Windows applications and files directly from it. By default, programs from Windows will have a colored border and a VMware badge in the corner.  You can turn this off from the VMware settings pane.  Click Virtual Machine in VMware’s menu and select Virtual Machine Settings.  Select Unity under the Options tab, and uncheck the Show borders and Show badges boxes if you don’t want them. Unity makes your Windows programs feel at home in Ubuntu.  Here we have Word 2010 and IE8 open beside the Ubuntu Help application.  Notice that the Windows applications show up in the taskbar on the bottom just like the Linux programs.  If you’re using the Compiz graphics effects in Ubuntu, your Windows programs will use them too, including the popular wobbly windows effect. You can switch back to running Windows inside VMware Player’s window by clicking the Exit Unity button in the VMware window. Now, whenever you want to run Windows applications in Linux, you can quickly launch it from VMware Player. Conclusion VMware Player is a great way to run Windows on your Linux computer.  It makes it extremely easy to get Windows installed and running, lets you run your Windows programs seamlessly alongside your Linux ones.  VMware products work great in our experience, and VMware Player on Linux was no exception. • Wired PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse do not work in 12.04 Live CD or after fresh 12.04 install - Foxconn D270S Atom Motherboard

  My Wired PS/2 keyboard and mouse do not work in 12.04, either in a fresh install or from the Live CD. A USB keyboard and mouse will work. The PS/2 keyboard and mouse will work using the same hardware and a fresh 10.04 Ubuntu install or a fresh Windows 7 install. The motherboard is a Foxconn D270S Atom based motherboard. This problem is specific to this motherboard and Ubuntu 12.04. So far I've tried running in the fresh 12.04 install: sudo apt-get install sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade After the apt-get upgraded the first time, I now get to the point where there are 0 items to be upgraded. Rebooted and still no PS/2 keyboard/mouse. I've also tried adding the following lines to GRUB at boot time (the PS/2 keyboard works in GRUB) acpi=noirq acpi=off Neither setting made any difference. The motherboard is a Foxconn D270S Atom based motherboard. Even more interestingly, 12.04 recognizes the same PS/2 keyboard and mouse on a separate Gigabyte AM3+ based motherboard. I only have this problem on this particular motherboard with Ubuntu 12.04. Any help would be appreciated. I bought this low-power motherboard specifically for the task of running Ubuntu 12.04 for the next five years... Update... I dug out an old PS/2 mouse that does not use a PS/2 to USB adapter but is directly wired for PS/2. Still no PS/2 keyboard or mouse after reboot. Again, I only have this problem with this motherboard and 12.04 Ubuntu. Other motherboards work fine with 12.04 and this motherboard works fine with 10.04. Update 2... I installed the 12.04 Server version. The text-based installer recognized the keyboard without issue, but after the first boot into the installed OS, the PS/2 keyboard would no longer respond. I tried installing Gnome on the Server install and the PS/2 mouse and keyboard don't work in Gnome either. I Opened bug #995570 for this issue

• Internationalize WebCenter Portal - Content Presenter

  Lately we have been involved in engagements where internationalization has been holding the project back from success. In this post we are going to explain how to get Content Presenter and its editorials to comply with the current selected locale for the WebCenter Portal session. As you probably know by now WebCenter Portal leverages the Localization support from Java Server Faces (JSF), in this post we will assume that the localization is controlled and enforced by switching the current browsers locale between English and Spanish. There is two main scenarios in internationalization of a content enabled pages, since Content Presenter offers both presentation of information as well as contribution of information, in this post we will look at how to enable seamless integration of correct localized version of the back end content file and how to enable the editor/author to edit the correct localized version of the file based on the current browser locale. Solution Scenario 1 - Localization aware content presentation Due to the amount of steps required to implement the enclosed solution proposal I have decided to share the solution with you in group components for each facet of the solution. If you want to get more details on each step, you can review the enclosed components. This post will guide you through the steps of enabling each component and what it enables/changes in each section of the system. Enable Content Presenter Customization By leveraging a predictable naming convention of the data files used to hold the content for the Content Presenter instance we can easily develop a component that will dynamically switch the name out before presenting the information. The naming convention we have leverage is the industry best practice by having a shared identifier as prefix (ContentABC) and a language enabled suffix (_EN) (_ES). So the assumption is that each file pair in above example should look like following:- English version - (ContentABC_EN)- Spanish version - (ContentABC_ES) Based on above theory we can now easily regardless of the primary version assigned to the content presenter instance switch the language out by using the localization support from JSF. A new method invocation activity has been added (initLocaleForDataFile)2. The method invocation invokes the new NLSHelperBean3. The default activity is moved to the new Method invocation (initLocaleForDataFile)4. The outcome from the method invocation goes to determine-navigation (original default activity) The above changes concludes the presentation modification to support a compatible localization scenario for a content driven page. In addition this customization do not limit or disables the out of the box capabilities of WebCenter Portal. Steps to enable above customization Start JDeveloper and open your WebCenter Portal Application Select "Open Project" and include the extracted project you downloaded (CPNLSCustomizations.zip) Make sure the build out put from CPNLSCustomizations project is a dependency to your Portal project Deploy your Portal Application to your WC_CustomPortal managed server Make sure your naming convention of the two data files follow above recommendation Example result of the solution: Solution Scenario 2 - Localization aware content creation and authoring As you could see from Solution Scenario 1 we require the naming convention to be strictly followed, this means in the hands of a user with limited technology knowledge this can be one of the failing links in this solutions. Therefore I strongly recommend that you also follow this part since this will eliminate this risk and also increase the editors/authors usability with a magnitude. The current WebCenter Portal Architecture leverages WebCenter Content today to maintain, publish and manage content, therefore we need to make few efforts in making sure this part of the architecture is on board with our new naming practice and also simplifies the creation of content for our end users. As you probably remember the naming convention required a prefix to be common so I propose we enable a new component that help you auto name the content items dDocName (this means that the readable title can still be in a human readable format). The new component (WCP-LocalizationSupport.zip) built for this scenario will enable a couple of things: 1. A new service where a sequential number can be generate on request - service name: GET_WCP_LOCALE_CONTENTID 2. The content presenter is leveraging a specific function when launching the content creation wizard from within Content Presenter. Assumption is that users will create the content by clicking "Create Web Content" button. When clicking the button the wizard opened is actually running in side of WebCenter Content server, file executed (contentwizard.hcsp).   When anybody asked me if any specific feature is available in SQL Server 2008 or if any feature will be disabled in future versions of SQL Server, I always point everybody to following list where all the deprecated database engine features are listed. This list has many important details. For example, it suggests “80 compatibility level and upgrade from version 80.” will not be supported in next version of SQL Server. If you are using SQL Server 2000 still today (by any chance) you will be not able to upgrade that to next version of SQL Server directly. It is very important to note that if you are using any feature of SQL Server in compatibility mode and if you find them in the list above.
