• What's a good way to copy files from a PC to a Windows Mobile device?

  I have a C# application running on a server, and it needs to copy files out to multiple Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. These devices are connected to the network directly via Ethernet-enabled cradles (so they are not connected to a PC via ActiveSync). What different options do I have for doing this? I know RAPI can do this, but I'm not sure if it can copy something directly over the network like this. Also, I know RAPI uses ActiveSync DLLs and thus requires ActiveSync to be installed, and we would prefer to avoid doing this if possible. Is WMI a possibility? Can we use ordinary File.IO if we can somehow get the IP address of each device? Code samples or general knowledge would be most welcome.

Basically, I'm trying to reverse engineer the protocol used by the Windows Mobile Live Search application to get location based on cellID. Before I go on, I am aware of other open source services (such as OpenCellID) but this is more for the sake of education and a bit for redundancy. According to the packets I captured, a POST request is made to ... mobile.search.live.com/positionlookupservice_1/service.aspx ... with a few specific headers (agent, content-length, etc) and no body. Once this goes through, the server sends back a 100-Continue response. At first I thought they were some sort of base level element terminators but I'm not certain. I'm not sure the 7-byte header is, in fact, a seven byte header. I wonder if it's maybe 4 bytes and that the three remaining 0x00s are of some other significance. The trailing 0x00s. Why is it that there is only one on the request but two on the response? The type 8 cast mentioned above ... I can't seem to figure out how those values are being encoded. I added comments to those lines with what the values should correspond to. Any advice on these four points will be greatly appreciated. And yes, these packets were captured in Watertown, MA. :)

• Speed up dialog/page transitions in jQuery Mobile on iPhone?

  There are other SO questions on speeding up jQuery Mobile for Android, but does anyone know how to accelerate page transitions on iPhones, specifically dialog transitions? We're on JQM 1.0. JQM 1.1 is supposed to speed up page transitions (though we haven't seen any demos yet), but we're wondering if anyone has done anything for JQM 1.0. Right now, there is a two second delay, which is too much to show a dialog. We resort to one of two options. Using no animation for the page transition, which provides instant feedback, or rolling our own by binding to "touchstart" and animating the dialog, which is really just a big DIV inside the current page. Neither is ideal. Suggestions?

  I know that in the sdk folders I can find some (not very well grouped, imho) icon. But, there is a site online specialized that let you download free icons useful for mobile app? Ie world flags, up, down... save, revert..., next..., play, stop..., etc. It would be more appriciated also if you can find these sets in many different colors, and in 2 or 3 sizes (32x32, 64x64, etc.). The height of the window depends on the orientation of the device, but I found out that whenever I change the orientation, the height of the window that is plugged into the expressions for the height of the image is the height of the window BEFORE the orientation change! So, how do I make it so it picks up the height of the window AFTER the orientation change and then uses this new value to adjust the image height? • How to access device settings on a S60 symbian based mobile phone?

  Hello everyone, I recently bought a Sony Ericsson mobile phone which embeds Symbian S60 and I would like to add a missing feature myself. In fact I cannot actually disable Internet connection in an easy way when roaming, which cost me a lot of money last time I moved away ... So I would like to develop a little application that would just replace the actual Internet configuration with a fake configuration to avoid auto-connections. So what I would like to know is how can I access programmatically to my phone settings? I believe that this is possible but I do not really have a clue where to start. I know that Sony Ericsson provides a SDK to run Java applications on its customised JVM but Symbian is also providing a SDK to develop applications for S60 devices in many languages. The real questions is which SDK will provide an API able to access phone settings. This is not well documented so I am asking this question with the hope that someone here already had experience with development for Sony Ericsson/Symbian devices. Thanks.

• Have a workaround for the 1,000 file limit in a directory on windows mobile 5?

  I need to download more than 1,000 files into a windows mobile 5 directory located on the storage card. If i copy the files onto the storage card via my desktop there is no problem. But when i try to download the files from the handheld device I get a disk full error, even though there is plenty of room due to the 1,000 file limit. Has anyone run into this and found a workaround? I'm going to try zipping all of the files then decompressing on the device but not sure that this will work.

The user has to go through several pages of information in a wizard-like manner. At the start there is a login window. How would I go about and implement this? Would I just have different User Controls for each page and create/show and destroy/hide them on request? Or do I need to create different forms and somehow show those?

• Writing a docx file to a BLOB using Java 1.4 inside Oracle 10g

  I'm trying to generate a blank docx file using Java, add some text, then write it to a BLOB that I can return to our document processing engine (a custom mess of PL/SQL and Java). I have to use the 1.4 JVM inside Oracle 10g, so no Java 1.5 stuff. I don't have a problem writing the docx to a file on my local machine, but when I try to write to BLOB, I'm getting garbage. Am I doing something dumb? Any help is appreciated. As first requirement, generated self signed certificate using OpenSSL and added certificate to wallet. The wallet location is specified in server configuration. • Issues Connecting to SQLExpress using Oracle SQL Developer

  Hey Guys, I'm trying to create a connection inside Oracle SQL Developer to a SQLExpress database I have Everything I have resides on the same machine so there isn't any network issues I should have to deal with but everytime I follow the instructions and I try to connect I get the following message "Failure - Unable to get information from SQL Server: localhost." I can connect to the SQLExpress DB using the SQL Management Studio and through an ODBC connection. I've installed the third party extensions and I've enabled the TCP protocol on the SQL Server Configuration manager as well as enabled the IP Addresses I'm assuming that the SQLExpress Database is on port 1433 because I didn't change this when I installed but if someone can tell me how to double check that I would appreciate that info as well. I setup the new connection with the following information name: databasename I'm using windows authentication so the username and password aren't filled in host:localhost port:1433/databasename;instance=SQLEXPRESS *databasename - this is replaced with the actual DB name I've just changed the name here to protect the innocent I've spent about a full day on this trying to get it connected and many google attempts where other ppl have had this issue but have gotten it solved through various methods that I've tried and it hasn't resolved my issue. • oracle pl/sql bug: can't put_line more than 2000 characters

  Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon where dbms_output.put_line is unable to print more than 2000 characters at a time? Script is: set serveroutput on size 100000; declare big_str varchar2(2009); begin for i in 1..2009 loop big_str := big_str||'x'; end loop; dbms_output.put_line(length(big_str)); dbms_output.put_line(big_str); end; / I copied and pasted the output into an editor (Notepad++) which told me there were only 2000 characters, not 2009 which is what I think should have been pasted. This also happens with a few of my test scripts - only 2000 characters get printed. I have a workaround to print like this: dbms_output.put_line(length(big_str)); dbms_output.put_line(substr(big_str,1,1999)); dbms_output.put_line(substr(big_str,2000)); This adds new lines to the output, makes it hard to read when the text you're working with is preformatted. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it really a bug or some sort of obscure feature? Is there a better workaround? Is there any other information on this out there? Oracle version is: 10.2.0.3.0, using PL/SQL Developer (from Allround Automation).

• Oracle performance problems with large batch of XSL operations

  I have a system that is performing many XSL transformations on XMLType objects. The problem is that the system gradually slows down over time, and sometimes crashes when it runs out of memory. It seems that the slow down (and possibly memory crash) is around the dbms_xslprocessor.processXSL function call, which gradually takes longer and longer to complete.
