• PHP - Alternatives to runkit for intercepting method calls

  I have some very test-unfriendly code (to say the least) that I need to test. Refactoring unfortunately is not an option. I have to test the code as it is, without the possibility of changing it. To do that, I was thinking of intercepting function calls and dynamically change what they do so I can run my tests, as I need some functions and methods to return known values, and I need others that make requests, connect to the database, etc, to stop doing that and return what I need them to return. Is there any way to do this without runkit_method_redefine(), which is preferably not "EXPERIMENTAL" and still maintained? Maybe an alternative to runkit? Maybe a better way? Edit: will use PHPUnit's test doubles and PHP 5.3.2's features for making private methods accessible, if I need that functionality.

• Problem using SQLDMO/Vb6 against SQL2008

  I have a client, that uses SQLDMO for a portion of a custom application that was written against SQL 2000, and they recently upgraded to SQL2008. The majority of the app still runs fine (doesn't use SQLDMO), but the admin functions which rely on SQLDMO stopped working. I installed the SQL2005 backward compatibility pack, and now SQLDMO partially works, i.e. I can run "select" type queries, but any "Update" queries fail with the error message: to connect to the server you must use SQL Server management studio or sql server management objects (SMO) Any thoughts? Should the backward compatibility pack give me ALL the functionality back, or is this a known issue? BTW: I realize SQLDMO has been deprecated and will go away next release, none-the-less I need to do what I can to solve the problem at hand.

• XRDP: window manager not starting

  I have setup my Ubuntu server so that I can connect and login to XRDP from Windows remote desktop. My problem is that after logging in, no window-manager is started. It only displays a single gnome-terminal with no border and gray meshed background. It seems that /usr/sbin/xrdp-sesman itself is running (from observation of ps and /var/run/xrdp/xrdp-sesman.pid). I put debugging line like touch /home/myname/aaaaa into ~/startwm.sh or /etc/xrdp/startwm.sh, but the file aaaaa did not generated after logging in, so these scripts have not been executed. (Both of them have chmod +x permission.) Am I missing some configuration file, or is there any way of further inspection? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. • Anyone had any experience with *.pcap manipulation libs?

  I'm using the SharpPcap + PacketDotNet libraries to process some .pcap files and came across a bug in the way the timestamps are calculated. Take this Timeval property, which is something along these lines: PosixTimeval Timeval { DateTime Date; ulong Seconds; ulong MicroSeconds; } The problem is as follows: Suppose you have a trace open in Wireshark with one of the packets with a timestamp of "0.002". Once you open it within one of your programs, it retrieves the packet and its Timeval is setup such that Seconds = 0 and MicroSeconds = 002 = 2. This is done under the hood, so there is no way to avoid it as far as I can tell. My question is if that problem is common to other libraries (and maybe all of them?) who manipulate the pcap file format, which I think are built around the same collection of c/c++ functions, or if this is a problem only with the ones I'm using.

• Is Objective C fast enough for DSP/audio programming

  I've been making some progress with audio programming for iPhone. Now I'm doing some performance tuning, trying to see if I can squeeze more out of this little machine. Running Shark, I see that a significant part of my cpu power (16%) is getting eaten up by objc_msgSend. I understand I can speed this up somewhat by storing pointers to functions (IMP) rather than calling them using [object message] notation. But if I'm going to go through all this trouble, I wonder if I might just be better off using C++. Any thoughts on this?

• EOF error encountered while converting bytearray to bitmapdata

  I am using var bitmapdata:BitmapData=new BitmapData(); var pixels:Bytearray=new Bytearray(); pixels = rleDecodePixles(); bitmapdata.setPixels(bitmapdata.rect, pixels); In the 4th line in the code above i am getting "Error: Error #2030: End of file was encountered." I checked the length of the pixels object which is 4 times the width*height of the rect object. Given that setPixels() functions reads unsigned int from bytearray and sets that value to pixels, I think it should work. But I have no clue why this wont work. The pixels object is filled after RLE decoding of the data which i get from a server. Is there any work around or any other method which I could try to use. The loader class wont work as the data that I get from the server is not in any of the recognized format. Any help is greatly appreciated. Shrikant Thanks.

• "Executing SQL directly; no cursor" error when using SCOPE_IDENTITY/IDENT_CURRENT

  There wasn't much on google about this error, so I'm askin here. I'm switching a PHP web application from using MySQL to SQL Server 2008 (using ODBC, not php_mssql). Running queries or anything else isn't a problem, but when I try to do scope_identity (or any similar functions), I get the error "Executing SQL directly; no cursor". I'm doing this immediately after an insert, so it should still be in scope. Running the same insert statement then query for the insert ID works fine in SQL Server Management Studio. Here's my code right now (everything else in the database wrapper class works fine for other queries, so I'll assume it isn't relevant right now): function insert_id(){ return $this->query_first("SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() as insert_id"); } query_first being a function that returns the first result from the first field of a query (basically the equivalent of execute_scalar() on .net).   Hello all, I am aware that _beginthreadex is part of the MSCVRT functions and therefore not accessible via Cygwin/MinGW uintptr_t _beginthreadex( void *security, unsigned stack_size, unsigned ( __stdcall *start_address )( void * ), void *arglist, unsigned initflag, unsigned *thrdaddr ); However, _beginthreadex does call upon CreateThread(). HANDLE CreateThread( LPSECURITY_ATTRIBUTES secAttr, SIZE_T stackSize, LPTHREAD_START_ROUTINE threadFunc, LPVOID param, DWORD flags, LPDWORD threadID ); However, does anyone have a wrapper or a URL to a library that is compatible with Cygwin/WinGW.   Hi, I'm trying to convert this c code(http://nashruddin.com/OpenCV_Eye_Detection) to the python code, but in c style, he used cvROI thing, since ROI functions are not supported by python-opencv, I tried cvGetSubRect so Here is the eye detection part of the code : eye_region = cvGetSubRect(image,cvRect(face.x,int(face.y + (face.height/4)),face.width,int(face.height/2))) eyes = cvHaarDetectObjects(eye_region,eyeCascade,memo,1.15,3,0,cvSize(25,15)) for e in eyes: cvRectangle(image, cvPoint( int(e.x), int(e.y)), cvPoint(int(e.x + e.width), int(e.y + e.height)), CV_RGB(0, 255, 0), 1, 8, 0) return image; When I run this code, It draws rectangles irrelevant places. I thought, eye_region coordinates are wrong, and tried some coordinates, but it didn't work. Any idea ? Note :Face detection method works very well, and it's code is same with the eye detection method.

• Arguments of using WCF/OData as access layer instead of EF/L2S/nHibernate directly

  We develop mostly low traffic but highly specialized web applications. Normally we use L2S, EF or nHibernate as access layer and then throws Asp.Net MVC to it and in which for normal crud operations we query the ISession/DataContext directly but for more advanced functions/side effects we put it in a some kind of service layer. Now, i was think about publishing the data through OData (WCF Data Service) and query that from the controllers (or even from jQuery when the a good template engine shows up) and publish the service operations through a WCF service (or as custom methods on the WCF Data Service?). What advantages/disadvantages does this architecture poses? Do I gain something except higher complexity and latency? Better separations of concerns (or is it just a illusion)?

I want to select an image from iPhone (camera or library) and send to php via ajax. http://wiki.phonegap.com/iPhone:-Camera-API I'm using the phonegap framework, Xcode iPhone SDK version 3.1.x. On clicking button it calls function with parameter 0 or 1, but it does not initialize camera or display the library. I checked the simulator virtual phone; there is no icon for camera, but the pictures album is there. I used the same code as in the above link. What do I do, what and how to check? any other functions to get photos using phonegap?

• manipulate objects outside svg with javascript-function inside the svg

  Hello! I'm embedding a svg-graphic on my website and i'd like to manipulate the rest of the website with javascript-commands which are in the svg - though i'm not sure if this is possible. Let me elaborate: I've got a worldmap in svg, i want to click on a country and this click should run an ajax-call and load relevant information of this country into a div in the html site where the svg is embedded. "onclick="location.href='xxx'"" redirects to the respective site which is fine, but i'd prefer to run a js-function that fetches the site with ajax - but running a javascript-function in the svg only seems to work for functions and elements defined in the svg, not outside of it. Is it basically possible to manipulate anything outside the svg through a js-function in the svg? How? Regards Christian

• Graphviz DOT arrange Nodes in circles

  OK here's my problem, I'm generating a graph of a python module, including all the files with their functions/methods/classes. I want to arrange it so, that nodes gather in circles around their parent nodes, currently everything is on one gargantuan horizontal row, which makes the thing 50k pixels wide and also let's the svg converter fail(only renders about the half of the graph). I went trough the docs(http://www.graphviz.org/doc/info/attrs.html) but couldn't find anything that seems to do the trick. So the question is: Is there a simple way to do this or do I have to layout the whole thing by myself? :/

• Nested class or not nested class?

  I have class A and list of A objects. A has a function f that should be executed every X seconds (for the first instance every 1 second, for the seconds instance every 5 seconds, etc.). I have a scheduler class that is responsible to execute the functions at the correct time. What i thought to do is to create a new class, ATime, that will hold ptr to A instance and the time A::f should be executed. The scheduler will hold a min priority queue of Atime. Do you think it is the correct implementation? Should ATime be a nested class of the scheduler?

• How To AutoScroll a DataGridView during Drag and Drop

  One of the forms in my C# .NET application has multiple DataGridViews that implement drag and drop to move the rows around. The drag and drop mostly works right, but I've been having a hard time getting the DataGridViews to AutoScroll - when a row is dragged near the top or bottom of the box, to scroll it in that direction. So far, I've tried implementing a version of this solution. I have a ScrollingGridView class inheriting from DataGridView that implements the described timer, and according to the debugger, the timer is firing appropriately, but the timer code: SendMessage(Handle, WM_VSCROLL, (IntPtr)scrollDirectionInt, IntPtr.Zero); doesn't do anything as far as I can tell, possibly because I have multiple DataGridViews in the form. I also tried modifying the AutoScrollOffset property, but that didn't do anything either. Investigation of the DataGridView and ScrollBar classes doesn't seem to suggest any other commands or functions that will actually make the DataGridView scroll. Can anyone help me with a function that will actually scroll the DataGridView, or some other way to solve the problem?

It's just very convenient constructing my objects that way but it worries me because i have no idea whether this is ok or violates the License by dynamically executing code or maybe even calling private (?) API functions. They wouldn't be documented if they were private, right? Can someone shed some light on this? Have you had an App approved or rejected using code similar to the above? I'm pretty sure that this is ok but i wan't to hear it from someone else! :)

• Using SAS Macro to pipe a list of filenames from a Windows directory

  I am trying to amend the macro below to accept a macro parameter as the 'location' argument for a dir command. However I cannot get it to resolve correctly due to the nested quotes issue. Using %str(%') does not work, neither do quoting functions for some reason. The macro will work fine when the filepath has no spaces (eg C:\temp\withnospace) as the middle quotes aren't needed. However I need this macro to work for filepaths with spaces (eg 'C:\temp\with space\').   I have a PHP application using Zend MVC framework. The entry point for every request to the application is in /public/index.php. I have a Browser class that has functions to check if the user's browser is compatible with application or not. My dilemma is, index.php is executed for every controller call. So there are chances that this file gets executed multiple times within the same page and hence redirection becomes an issue. What's the best way to solve the looping issue? Thanks

  I have a .Net 2 C# application I am developing which uses a VB 6 generated COM DLL. The VB DLL is updated frequently any my application crashes with a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154). The part of the COM DLL I use does not change but the version (and CLSID) will. The "Specific Version" option for the reference is false. The WrapperTool is tlbimp. How do I tell my application not to worry about changes in the DLL? Is there any way of checking just the functions I am using?
