• Windows will not go into standby

  When I select Start-Turn off computer-Standby the 'turn off computer' option window closes, and then nothing else happens. I can start new applications, and Windows acts like I never selected standby. If I have a TV program scheduled to record I get a window asking if I'm sure, there are programs scheduled to record - and the computer just keeps running after I select yes. (If a program is not scheduled then that task in not running/in memory - this problem happens even if I'm not watching TV and no TV scheduling task is running.) This problem happens regardless of whether Media Center is running. Windows XP SP3 Media Center Edition, all current updates installed.

• Installing Tcl and Tix in OSX

  Hello, I'm having trouble installing Tix on OSX the version of Tix I am using is 8.4.3. I try to install it by following the instructions in the README % ./configure % make % make install And iat the very start of make it gives me: xXpm.o tixUnixWm.o -L/Library/Frameworks/Tcl.framework Going by Company Politics I'm suppose to A: Disabled the standardlized Administrator (Done, can do that in task sequence) B: Create a new Administrator called 'ITadmin' and set a fixed password C: Join a Domain (Done that aswell in the Task Sequence) D: Use a Domain Admin to install programs that would otherwise give problems if attempted to install through Local Admin, like Dynamics AX As written I join the computer to the Domain During the OSD, and as Result have the correct Domain Admins added as Administrators through GPO, but I don't know how to use them. I'm looking at CustomSettings.ini in the MDT pack and thinking its gotta be possible to do it from here? or from the unattend.xml in pseudo here is what I wanna Add: AddLocalAdmin: ITadmin Password: 1234 UseThisAccountToInstallOSD: Domain\Install_User Password: 1234 Any help appreciated, can't seem to google my way out of this one.

• Monitoring CPU Usage Over the Course of a Day?

  Are there any apps I an install on client machines that will generate a report for me what app used what % of the CPU. We have some machines that are running, at times, VERY slowly. The machine will run really poorly then boom, back up to full speed. There isn't usually enough time to check Task Manager real quickly to see what is running, not to mention the majority of the time there are people using the computer that don't know what the Task Manager is. ;) It would be really nice to take a look at some logs and see if, maybe, the anti virus is randomly taking alot of CPU for stretches of time. Am I able to simply replace a bad drive with a new one on unraid? What happens if my pc fails? Lets say the cpu overheats. Since I have a complete pc which is going to be replaced, I only have to pay the software to use unraid. I am going to use my nas for: music library (how well does it integrate with iTunes? ) picture library movie library development (i need to be able to be to use time machine) I am going to use this nas with a MacBook pro. My current disks: 2x 500Gb 1x 1.5Tb 1x 2Tb On a drobo fs I would have 2.26 Tb of space. What would it be on unraid? Is FreeNAS also an alternative?

  (Surprised I didn't already find an answer here to this!) I've got a computer on which I'd like to back up the iTunes library – music, movies, apps, everything. We're talking multiple gigabytes. Unfortunately, it seems that iTunes' own built-in "Back Up to Disc" feature (the only backup feature I can find in iTunes) only functions with a CD or DVD writer/burner. The computer in question does not have a DVD burner. While it has a CD burner, attempting to back up to CDs would require dozens of discs plus more time than I'm willing to spend swapping them. So: What is the recommended way to back up an entire iTunes library on a Windows computer, to a non-CD/DVD location such as an external hard drive or a network shared folder? Then, once such a backup has been performed, what is the process for restoring the library – e.g. after the computer has been repaved with a new version of Windows – so that iTunes is resurrected whole and recognizes devices it syncs with? Having a cron task to pull the updates seems like an overkill is there anyway a gitolite post-commit script could execute a pull as the redmine user. My current update script looks like this: */15 * * * * redmine cd /home/redmine/repositories/support && git pull The post-commit script I guess should be similar, how can I give the gitolite user the privileges to execute the pull as the redmine user? • How to diagnose repeated freezing of windows 7 (comes back alive in few seconds)

  I installed Windows 7 in a 3 year old machine, it installed successfully, took all drivers and running great, but what happens is every 5-6 minutes it freezes for few seconds... 30 seconds to 1 minute and then comes back alive. I checked Event Viewer, nothing matching the frozen timeline. I would appriciate any help on how to detect causing service/hardware. After it comes alive, everything runs normal, I did run task manager and checked cpu usage, at time it freezes just before and after that no task took more cpu or memory, it was like idle machine. No external usb drives or no devices, on board intel desktop board with SATA HDD, SATA hdd running in absolute good mode.

Update: As it turns out MacOS X was restarting nginx after I'd stopped it, because the launchd plist in ~/Library/LaunchAgents had set it to 'KeepAlive'. However, because I installed this plist into my local user's LaunchAgents folder as opposed to /Library/LaunchAgents (or better yet /Library/LaunchDaemons, which run before you even log on), it wasn't executed as root. Because of an error about not having permissions to use port 80, it actually exited right away, but still wrote to the same log file as the nginx process I started with sudo. I had thought the errors stemming from the automatic restart were actually coming from my manual restart via sudo. So, bottom line, problem solved. The real problem here was the homebrew instructions specifically asking you to install the plist file into an area that wouldn't allow a local site to use port 80.

• ngen.exe is constantly using CPU

  I recently installed Windows 7. This was a clean install (i.e. not an upgrade from another version of Windows), but I did install a bunch of other programs. All mainstream applications - nothing wacky. Since then, my CPU usage has been constantly at around 50%. Task Manager shows me that ngen.exe is the culprit. It's not a long-running task: I can see that it gets a new PID at least once a second, so I guess something is constantly triggering it. It does it all the time, even when I have no applications running. Has anyone else seen this? How do I find out what's causing this?

  The debugfs manpage gives the impression that the command 'rdump . .' will recursively copy all files found on the specified filesystem from the debugfs cwd to the native filesystem's cwd. Instead I seem to receive a syntax error, and no copy is initiated? These are the commands I run: cd /path/to/transfer/destination debugfs /dev/sda1 -R rdump . . My task is to copy the entire contents of a clean yet unmountable USB storage device to its host machine's HD. The host machine does not support the inode size used by the USB device's filesystem (256) and its software is not upgradeable, so my intention was to use debugfs to transfer the files. If anyone has any other suggestions for this task I'd be grateful.

• Mac: window manager frozen, have ssh access

  I have a Mac which regularly runs into a problem. The user interface stops reponding, showing a "frozen" user interface. The mouse is still moving but clicking does not trigger anything. This happens about once a week. Solution so far is to force switch-off the Mac and reboot it. I have ssh root access to the Mac. Killing (kill -9) the active application has no visible impact on what is shown on the screen. Any ideas on how to diagnose this? Is there a way to restart the window manager from the ssh shell? Killing /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/CoreGraphics.framework/Resources/WindowServer seems not to be possible. The Mac is an early 2008 iMac and runs Lion with latest updates. /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports is empty. Update: Problem stays after update to Mountain Lion. The WindowServer process is in "uninterruptible wait" state ("U" flag in ps output set): imac:~ root# ps ax|awk "NR==1|| /WindowServer/"|grep -v awk PID TT STAT TIME COMMAND 86 ?? • I can't "unmaximize" my window

  I've got a windows app (I don't think it matters which one, but in case you're wondering, it's SQL Server Profiler) that I can't put back into "windowed" mode. I can maximize or minimize it, either by right-clicking on the task bar and selecting maximize...or if the window is already maximized, I can click the minimize button to minimize it... The problem is when I click the middle button...the one that toggles between maximized and "windowed" mode, the windowed mode just makes it disappear. The program is still running fine, and I can bring it back up (maximized) by selecting it in the task bar. It doesn't seem to be hanging out on any of the edges of the screen...far as I can tell, it's just not there. And, of course, the app is "smart" enough to remember its status, so restarting the app doesn't help. Has anyone seen this? Know how to fix it?

On RHEL 6.x with rpm version 4.8, I have in /usr/lib/macros: # Path to top of build area. %_topdir %{getenv:HOME}/rpmbuild On RHEL 5.x with rpm version 4.4, the %{getevn:HOME} is not available. I know that I can use /home/someuser/.rpmmacros: %_topdir /home/someuser/rpmbuild and this will work for that user, however I don't want to do this for every user separately. Moreover, since .rpmmacro will not expand ${HOME} or ~ I suspect it is unsafe to use those. This in turn make /etc/skel unstable for this task (or so I suspect). So in short, my question is: How to setup RHEL 5.x host that allow all users to build RPM packages in their home directory?

  Hello, I need to persist a Remote desktop connection across a reboot of a Terminal server. I'm thinking that it would be something like a scheduled task that would run periodically and check the running state of the session and restart it if it's down. BTW, I did check the "Reconnect..." checkbox on the advanced tab of the connection options, but it still goes down everytime we restart the terminal server. Does anyone have the script that would accomplish the above in a scheduled task, or perhaps another solution?

Ex: Highligh/select the mail I wish to convert to a task in Asana and the type a shortcut like ctrl/cmd/L to forward the mail to Asana. As most todo apps have custom email addresses you can use to convert an email into a task, the only thing that needs to be changed is the email address in the script. For Asana this would not be necessary because the email address for converting an email into a taks is the same for all Asana users.

All clients have the requirements installed (.Net-framework for example) and start the .exe from the mapped drive. The ThinApp-Application tries to start this application and throws the mentioned exceptions. AFAIK there are no entry points for this application configured. What I should also mention is: The .Net-Application crashes during execution. That means, we have a debug mode implemented that shows what the application is doing. The application shows what it's doing and after some steps it crashes. The interesting point is: It's a .Net-application, not a C++ Application.

• Gmail as icon on Dock in os x

  On Windows, I can add Gmail as a faux application to the Taskbar, by using something like "add to task bar" in the Wrench-Tools menu. This promotes it to appear as a native application in the task bar. I notice that the same menu item isn't there for Chrome on Mac - at least, not in the same place. I'm looking for a "Add to Dock" function. Can this be done on the OS X version of Chrome? If so, how? I'm sick of having my email client hanging out with the other browser tabs.

• Windows Media Center doesn't see my movies

  I am trying to configure my Windows Media Center (Windows 7 Ultimate). I selected folder with my movies and added it to the library, but when I went to the movies library, it says "There are no items in this library yet - Windows Media Center is searching for media files in the background...". I have all necessary codecs installed, Windows Media Player opens those movies correctly. When I right click on the file - Open with - Windows Media Center it also plays them without any problem. Any ideas why they don't appear in the libraries? Edit: Movies are coded with divx and xvid codecs and they have ".avi" extension. Windows doesn't have problems playing them. I told Media Center where the files are. I even pointed Windows Media Center to a folder with only one .avi file it still couldn't find anything there. (I have given it quiet some time, even though searching in the directory with only one file shouldn't take more than a few seconds.) When I add a folder with a lot of movies, I get a dialog box "You can wait while media is added or select OK to continue using Windows Media Center.".                                                                        At the end it says it added about 90 movies, but when I go to the libraries, it's still empty.

• Tomcat memory usage grows until crash with no GC run

  I'm administrating a server running Tomcat that is getting a lot of traffic lately. If I monitor memory usage in Task Manager I can see the memory usage growing and eventually tomcat crashes around the 1GB mark. Here's the memory relevent bits I've set in Tomcat Properties (this is a Windows Server): Intial memory pool: 1024 MB Maximum memory pool: 1024 MB -XX:MaxPermSize=256M The weird thing is since these problems arose I've deployed Lambda Probe to the Tomcat instance and the memory usage values I see there are much lower, for example Task Manager might show 467MB used while the "Total" used in Probe is 212 MB. Also, the Maximum Total listed in Probe is 1.29GB, when I would have expected 1GB, the maximum memory set above. If I force the garbage collector to run using Probe, I can keep Tomcat from crashing for a while (indefinitely, AFAIK). So why doesn't the GC run automatically and stop Tomcat from crashing? Thanks.
