  • UdpClient receiving and sending at the same time

    - by SoMoS
Hello, I am maintaining other's code and its using the class UdpClient. The code declares one instance of UdpClient and receives data continuosly using the UdpClient.Receive(). When data is received it is processed in another thread and the UdpClient calls Receive() again. At the same time when the data is processed the same client is sending a response back. Question: Is this a bug? I think so because UdpClient is not thread safe so you can not call two methods at the same time. Anyways code is working fine but ...

  • Adding Listeners at runtime? - Java MVC

    - by Halo
My model in my MVC pattern, generates components at runtime and gives them to the View to be displayed on the screen through update() method (you know, model is the observable and the view is the observer). But I also need to add listeners to these components, and the controller has the listener methods (because they say the MVC pattern is like this) and it's not involved in this update process. So I can't add the listeners at runtime, but only in the controller's constructor at startup. I've got an idea, that is making the controller the observer and then giving the data to the view, as well as adding the listeners. Do you think this would be OK?

  • Why C# calls different overloaded method for different values of same type?

    - by Fabio Veronez
Hello all, I have one doubt concerning c# method overloading call resolution. Let's suppose I have the following C# code: enum MyEnum { Value1, Value2 } public void test() { method(0); // this calls method(MyEnum) method(1); // this calls method(object) } public void method(object o) { } public void method(MyEnum e) { } Note that I know how to make it work but I would like to know why for one value of int (0) it calls one method and for another (1) it calls another. It sounds awkward since both values have the same type (int) but they are "linked" for different methods. Ps.: This is my first question here, i'm sorry if I made something wrong. =P

  • iPhone Dev: Animating PNG Sequences

    - by Franky
What is the best or recommended technique for animating PNG Sequences. Heres what I've learned: Do it Manually Using MutableArrays containing Strings, you can animate a UIImageView with a timer which increments an index number UIImage - animation methods This works, the only problem is to find if an image has completed its animation, you have to check the isAnimating BOOL, and to do that you need a timer. What is the best and recommended? Looking to do Oldschool game sprite animations, ie: Idle Animation Attack Animation Walk Animation ect... Let me know if any one has something. @lessfame

  • Are there any free .NET OCR libraries that will perform OCR on an application window directly?

    - by Kelsey
I am looking for a free .NET OCR library that will be able to do OCR on a given application window or even a image in memory (I can take a snapshot of the application window myself). I have looked at tessnet2 and MODI but both require an image located on disk. I need to use OCR because the application I am trying to write a script for does some wacky stuff that cannot be read using windows API and I need to scrape data from the screen. I have tested both of tessnet2 and MODI and they both can read the text mostly but because this has to run in an enviroment that will not be able to write to disk, I need it to be able to read directly from the applciation window or some type of memory stream. I am thinking OCR is my only soution but there could be other methods that I am not thinking of. Suggestions?

  • improving conversions to binary and back in C#

    - by Saad Imran.
I'm trying to write a general purpose socket server for a game I'm working on. I know I could very well use already built servers like SmartFox and Photon, but I wan't to go through the pain of creating one myself for learning purposes. I've come up with a BSON inspired protocol to convert the the basic data types, their arrays, and a special GSObject to binary and arrange them in a way so that it can be put back together into object form on the client end. At the core, the conversion methods utilize the .Net BitConverter class to convert the basic data types to binary. Anyways, the problem is performance, if I loop 50,000 times and convert my GSObject to binary each time it takes about 5500ms (the resulting byte[] is just 192 bytes per conversion). I think think this would be way too slow for an MMO that sends 5-10 position updates per second with a 1000 concurrent users. Yes, I know it's unlikely that a game will have a 1000 users on at the same time, but like I said earlier this is supposed to be a learning process for me, I want to go out of my way and build something that scales well and can handle at least a few thousand users. So yea, if anyone's aware of other conversion techniques or sees where I'm loosing performance I would appreciate the help. GSBitConverter.cs This is the main conversion class, it adds extension methods to main datatypes to convert to the binary format. It uses the BitConverter class to convert the base types. I've shown only the code to convert integer and integer arrays, but the rest of the method are pretty much replicas of those two, they just overload the type. public static class GSBitConverter { public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this short value) { return BitConverter.GetBytes(value); } public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<short> value) { List<byte> bytes = new List<byte>(); short length = (short)value.Count(); bytes.AddRange(length.ToGSBinary()); for (int i = 0; i < length; i++) bytes.AddRange(value.ElementAt(i).ToGSBinary()); return bytes.ToArray(); } public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this bool value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<bool> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<byte> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this int value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<int> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this long value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<long> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this float value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<float> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this double value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<double> value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this string value); public static byte[] ToGSBinary(this IEnumerable<string> value); public static string GetHexDump(this IEnumerable<byte> value); } Program.cs Here's the the object that I'm converting to binary in a loop. class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { GSObject obj = new GSObject(); obj.AttachShort("smallInt", 15); obj.AttachInt("medInt", 120700); obj.AttachLong("bigInt", 10900800700); obj.AttachDouble("doubleVal", Math.PI); obj.AttachStringArray("muppetNames", new string[] { "Kermit", "Fozzy", "Piggy", "Animal", "Gonzo" }); GSObject apple = new GSObject(); apple.AttachString("name", "Apple"); apple.AttachString("color", "red"); apple.AttachBool("inStock", true); apple.AttachFloat("price", (float)1.5); GSObject lemon = new GSObject(); apple.AttachString("name", "Lemon"); apple.AttachString("color", "yellow"); apple.AttachBool("inStock", false); apple.AttachFloat("price", (float)0.8); GSObject apricoat = new GSObject(); apple.AttachString("name", "Apricoat"); apple.AttachString("color", "orange"); apple.AttachBool("inStock", true); apple.AttachFloat("price", (float)1.9); GSObject kiwi = new GSObject(); apple.AttachString("name", "Kiwi"); apple.AttachString("color", "green"); apple.AttachBool("inStock", true); apple.AttachFloat("price", (float)2.3); GSArray fruits = new GSArray(); fruits.AddGSObject(apple); fruits.AddGSObject(lemon); fruits.AddGSObject(apricoat); fruits.AddGSObject(kiwi); obj.AttachGSArray("fruits", fruits); Stopwatch w1 = Stopwatch.StartNew(); for (int i = 0; i < 50000; i++) { byte[] b = obj.ToGSBinary(); } w1.Stop(); Console.WriteLine(BitConverter.IsLittleEndian ? "Little Endian" : "Big Endian"); Console.WriteLine(w1.ElapsedMilliseconds + "ms"); } Here's the code for some of my other classes that are used in the code above. Most of it is repetitive. • Launching an external application from within a NPAPI Plugin

    - by Adam Cobb
I am trying to work out why an NPAPI plugin I have written, which works fine in terms of performing operations triggered via Javascipt calls, cannot use CreateProcess() or ShellExecute() to launch an application from a path specified via the Javascript call. I can seemingly use either of these methods and they return success, i.e. no error code. But the application just does not launch. I have tried modifying the parameters used when calling them, to create new process group etc. But seemingly with no effect. I know this may seem like a bit of a security risk, but for the very specific purpose we wish to use it for it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks.

  • NSURLConnection on simulator and iphone performance issues

    - by Nava Carmon
I'm experiencing a weird problem and i wonder if anybody else has noticed this: I'm using NSURLConnection as it appears in apple's examples to get xml files from a certain server - pretty straight forward. And most of time it works, but sometimes it's just stuck after initialing and don't get into connection's delegate methods. I'm working with WiFi & 3G and the same server all the time. When it comes to didFailWithError i see that mostly it was a timeout error. When I enter same link in Safari it takes a second to bring data. And after another trial I can access the link. What might be the reason for such a weird behavior? How can I improve it? What is the role of cache policy with NSURLConnection? Thanks, Nava

  • How to pass the parameter in SQL query from PowerShell

    - by Zshava
    I have this code in PowerShell, that executes SQL query for UPDATE table: $Connection=new-object data.sqlclient.sqlconnection "server=server;database=mydb;trusted_connection=true;" $Connection.open() For( $i = 0; $i -le $ActID.Length; $i ++ ){ $cmd = New-Object System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand $cmd.Connection = $Connection $cmd.CommandText = " update Table set Note = @PATH " $cmd.Parameters.Add("@PATH", $ActID[$i].Values) | Out-Null $cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() } I try to update table with variable defined in this string: $cmd.Parameters.Add("@PATH", $ActID[$i].Values) | Out-Null But when i try to execute script, error log says that there is no value passed in $ActID[$i] Is there other methods to pass parameters (variables) in powershell queries?

  • Is writing to a socket an arbitrary limitation of the sendfile() syscall?

    - by Sufian
Prelude sendfile() is an extremely useful syscall for two reasons: First, it's less code than a read()/write() (or recv()/send() if you prefer that jive) loop. Second, it's faster (less syscalls, implementation may copy between devices without buffer, etc...) than the aforementioned methods. Less code. More efficient. Awesome. In UNIX, everything is (mostly) a file. This is the ugly territory from the collision of platonic theory and real-world practice. I understand that sockets are fundamentally different than files residing on some device. I haven't dug through the sources of Linux/*BSD/Darwin/whatever OS implements sendfile() to know why this specific syscall is restricted to writing to sockets (specifically, streaming sockets). I just want to know... Question What is limiting sendfile() from allowing the destination file descriptor to be something besides a socket (like a disk file, or a pipe)?

  • Measuring Programmers' Productivity. Bad, good or invasive?

    - by Fraga
A client needs my company to develop an app that will be able to measure the programmer productivity, by getting information from VS, IE, SSMS, profiler and VMware. For example: Lines, Methods, Classes (Added, Deleted, Modified) How many time spent in certain file, class, method, specific task, etc. How many time in different stages of the development cycle (Design, Coding, Debugging, Compiling, Testing) Real lines of code. Etc They told me they want to implement PSP. Would you resign if a company wants to measure this way? OR Would you install this kind of software for self improvement?

  • Temp file that exists only in RAM?

    - by Auraomega
I'm trying to write an encrpytion using the OTP method. In keeping with the security theories I need the plain text documents to be stored only in memory and never ever written to a physical drive. The tmpnam command appears to be what I need, but from what I can see it saves the file on the disk and not the RAM. Using C++ is there any (platform independent) method that allows a file to exist only in RAM? I would like to avoid using a RAM disk method if possible. Thanks Edit: Thanks, its more just a learning thing for me, I'm new to encryption and just working through different methods, I don't actually plan on using many of them (esspecially OTP due to doubling the original file size because of the "pad"). If I'm totally honest, I'm a Linux user so ditching Windows wouldn't be too bad, I'm looking into using RAM disks for now as FUSE seems a bit overkill for a "learning" thing.

  • Cant get the catch statement to catch the custom exception

    - by user282807
    i have created a custom exception in the business layer and also using wcf layer where I am calling the methods in the business layer then in another website i am calling the method from wcf. i can see the message that i wrote in custom exception but the program goes staright to exception (the second catch block) instead of hitting my first catch block(where the custom exception is) when i hover over the exception i see my message but it's inside something called faultexception which i am not familiar with. and in there under details..there i see type= CanOnlyApplyOnceException. here is my code: protected void AddNewApplication() { try { using (var proxy = new ServiceReference1.ServiceClient()) { proxy.AddApplication(new Application { Credentials = 2, Comments = txtComments.Text, }); } } catch (CanOnlyApplyOnceException c) { ErrorSummary.AddError(c.Message, this); return; } catch (Exception) { lblStatus.Text = "There has been an error. Please try again"; } }

  • Call the cast operator of template base class within the derived class

    - by yoni
I have a template class, called Cell, here the definition: template <class T> class OneCell { ..... } I have a cast operator from Cell to T, here virtual operator const T() const { ..... } Now i have derived class, called DCell, here template <class T> class DCell : public Cell<T> { ..... } I need to override the Cell's cast operator (insert a little if), but after I need to call the Cell's cast operator. In other methods it's should be something like virtual operator const T() const { if (...) { return Cell<T>::operator const T; } else throw ... } but i got a compiler error error: argument of type 'const int (Cell::)()const' does not match 'const int' What can I do? Thank you, and sorry about my poor English.

  • Is it possible to set properties on a Mock Object in Simpletest

    - by JW
I normally use getter and setter methods on my objects and I am fine with testing them as mock objects in SimpleTest by manipulating them with code like: Mock::generate('MyObj'); $MockMyObj->setReturnValue('getPropName', 'value') However, I have recently started to use magic interceptors (__set() __get()) and access properties like so: $MyObj->propName = 'blah'; But I am having difficulty making a mock object have a particular property accessed by using that technique. So is there some special way of setting properties on MockObjects. I have tried doing: $MockMyObj->propName = 'test Value'; but this does not seem to work. Not sure if it is my test Subject, Mock, magic Interceptors, or SimpleTest that is causing the property to be unaccessable. Any advice welcome.

  • Setting refresh-policies in Ehcache

    - by Alex Ciminian
Is there any to specify a data refresh policy in Ehcache? I am currently migrating an application from OSCache to Ehcache and I can't seem to find any way to specify when an element needs refreshing, besides setting timeToIdle and timeToLive. What I want is: on accessing an element from the cache, check with it's associated resource to see if it was updated later than the lastUpdateTime of the cache element. If yes, refresh the cache; else serve the content from the cache. In OSCache this was done by catching NeedsRefreshExceptions and setting custom refresh policies for the elements. I've been digging around in the docs for a while now, but I wasn't able to find any methods or examples of how I could accomplish this in Ehcache. Any help would be appreciated :). Alex

  • How Can I Add a New Command to a Control's Event

    - by Chris
Hi, thanks for taking a look at this question. I have been building an application (VB/WPF) following Josh Smith's example of an MVVM pattern: Click here to view My Views have Controls which trigger a Command upon an event, such as a button click and these are bound to properties in the ViewModel. My ViewModel exposes properties of type ICommand which invoke the appropriate methods. This has worked well, until now! I now want to use a Thumb Control to allow a user to move an object within a Canvas. I don't believe that the Thumb has a Command capability 'out of the box'. A Thumb raises a 'DragDelta' event when being moved. So my question is as follows: How do I extend a Control's capability to issue a Command upon an event please? I wish to issue a new Command, let's say 'onDragDelta' so that I can bind it to a property in my ViewModel just like my Buttons. Thank you very much

  • How to get global variable in JQuery functions

    - by Tahir Akram
    I want to access my global javascript variable in JQuery methods. But I am unable to get it when I go to attach a click even to a div. As following. How can I do that? I mean do I need to rely on hidden fields for some state management? var divCount = 3; $(function() { //divCount is accessible here $("#sortable").sortable({ revert: true }); $("#new").click(function(){ if (divCount<7){ //divCount is not accessible here. why? and how? var thisCount = ++divCount; $("#draggable_"+thisCount).addClass("draggable"); } }); });

  • Are there any differences between MSSQL and MySQL when it comes to preventing SQL injection?

    - by Derek Adair
I am used to developing in PHP/MySQL and have no experience developing with MSSQL. I've skimmed over the PHP MSSQL documentation and it looks similar to MySQLi in some of the methods I read about. For example, with MySQL I utilize the function mysql_real_excape_string(). Is there a similar function with PHP/MSSQL? What steps do I need to take in order to protect against SQL injection with MSSQL? What are the differences between MSSQL and MySQL pertaining to SQL injection prevention?

  • Is there a way to declare a variable that implements multiple interfaces in .Net?

    - by Bryan Anderson
Similar to this Java question. I would like to specify that a variable implements multiple interfaces. For instance private {IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} _foo; public void SetFoo({IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} value) { _foo = value; } Requirements: I don't have the ability to add an interface to most type that would be passed in to Foo. So I can't create a third interface that inherits from IFirstInterface and ISecondInterface. I would like to avoid making the containing class generic if possible because the type of Foo doesn't have much to do with the class and the user isn't likely to know it at compile time. I need to use foo to access methods in both interfaces at a later time. I would like to do this in a compiler safe way, i.e. no trying to cast to the interface just before trying to use it. If foo does not implement both interfaces quite a bit of functionality won't work properly. Is this possible?

  • FMDB transaction

    - by user142764
Hi ! I use FMDB to wrap SQLite in my app. I haven't found any docs about the use of methods begin, beginUpdates, commit, finalize, etc. I face some problems in my apps which i think are caused by the way i use transactions. Here is what i tried : [FMDB beginUpdates] - My insert statement - [FMDB commit] [FMDB finalize] it crashes with this log : Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[FMDatabase<0xd705a0 finalize]: called when collecting not enabled' Could you please give me an example of how you are using transactions, or point me to a doc ? Thanks in advance, Vincent.

  • How to embed images in a single HTML / PHP file?

    - by Tatu Ulmanen
Hi, I am creating a lightweight, single-file database administration tool and I would like to bundle some small icons with it. What is the best way to embed images in a HTML/PHP file? I know a method using PHP where I would call the same file with a GET parameter that would output hardcoded binary data with the correct header, but that seems a bit complicated. Can I use something to pass the image directly in a CSS background-image declaration? This would allow me to utilize the CSS sprite technique. Browser support isn't an issue here, so more exotic methods are welcome also. EDIT Does someone have a link/example to how to generate Data URL's properly with PHP? I'd figure echo 'data:image/png;base64,'.base64_encode(file_get_contents('image.png')) would suffice but I could be wrong.

  • Modifying JSF Component Tree in PhaseListener

    - by jamiebarrow
Hi all, I'm having an issue. I've implemented a PhaseListener, which is meant to add a style class to any UIInput components in the tree that have messages attached to them, and removes the style class if it doesn't have any messages attached to them. The PhaseListener runs in the RENDER_RESPONSE phase, and does it's work in both the beforePhase and afterPhase methods while debugging. While debugging, I found that beforePhase doesn't have access to the full component tree, but afterPhase does. Any changes done in afterPhase aren't rendered though. How do I go about this? I want this to be completely server side. Thanks, James

  • A way to avoid deriving from the provider classes in mvc authentication

    - by Shymep
Looking for the best practice for authentication in MVC I unfortunately didn't find the clear answer to my question. Thinking of the problem I tried to imagine some priciples that could be useful in my design. Well, I would like to use a base AccountController class I want to place all the tables such as "Users", Roles, Rights etc into my own database. But I wouldn't like to implement the standard aspnetdb design (which can be easy got by using aspnet_regsql) So the main question is can I do this without deriving abstract classes like MembershipProvider, RoleProvider etc? What I would prefer not to do is implement all the abstract methods from these classes. The second question is still about the best practice for authentication e.g. for the small projects, for the large ones?
