• Detecting metadata-only read requests in windows filesystem

  Hello, I'm developing a kind of filesystem driver. All of read requests that windows makes to my filesystem goes by the driver implementation. I would like to distinguish between "normal" read requests and those who want to get only the metadata from the file. ( Windows reads first 4K of the file and then stop reading ). Does Windows mark this metadata reads in some way? It would be very useful in order to treat that two kind of operations in a different way. In a typical CreateFile call, we have AccessMode, ShareMode, CreationDisposition and FlagsAndAttributes parameters ( being DWORD ), i'm not sure if it's possible to extract some clue of the operation requested. • Which NoSQL db to use with C?

  Hello all, I'm working on an application that I'm going to write with C and i am considering to use a nosql db for storing timeseries data with at most 8 or 9 fields. But in every 5 minutes there will huge write operations such as 2-10 million rows and then there will be reads(but performance is not as crucial in read as in the write operation). I'm considering to use a NoSQL db here in order to store the data but couldn't decide on which one to use. Couchdb seems to have a stable driver called pillowtalk for C; but Mongo's driver doesn't look as promising as pillowtalk. I'm also open to other suggestions. What is your recommendation?

• Oracle Hibernate with in Netbean RCP

  All, i have a problem with hibernate using netbean platform 6.8, i have been search around internet, but cannot found the suitable answer This is my story. i am using oracle database as data source of my hibernate entity with ojdbc14.jar driver. First i create hibernate entity tobe wrapped latter in a netbeans module, i tested the hibernate connection configuration and everything just works well. i can connect to oracle database successfuly, every hibernate query works well. Then i wrapped that hibernate entity jar as a netbeans module, create another module to warp my ojdbc14.jar then i test it. and, im using hibernate library dependency that available on netbean platform (netbean 6.8), but unfutornatelly i got oracle sql error saying “no suitable driver for [connection url]” when running the project. thats quite weird since it doesn’t happend when I test it before with out netbean platform. i thought that is related to netbeans lazy loading issue, i am not sure,. any idea ? tq for help

• Best solution to import records from MySQL database to MS SQL (Hourly)

  I need to import records stored in a MySQL Database that I do not maintain into my Sql Server 2005 database (x64) We should import the records at an interval basis (probably 1 hour). What would be the best solution to perform the regular import? Windows Service (using reference MySql.data dll) Windows Client (could make it automated) SQL Extended Stored Procedure (is it possible to reference the MySQL.data dll?) SSIS package - Install MySQL ODBC driver The problem with #4 is that I do not really want to support the ODBC driver on the sql server. I'm not sure if you can even reference the x86 MySql.data dll into a x64 sql server process for #3. (Or if you can even reference that dll within a sql server project)

• Count, inner join

  I have two tables: DRIVER (Driver_Id,First name,Last name,...) PARTICIPANT IN CAR ACCIDENT (Participant_Id,Driver_Id-foreign key,responsibility-yes or no,...) Now, I need to find out which driver participated in accident where responsibility is 'YES', and how many times. I did this: Select Driver_ID, COUNT (Participant.Driver_ID)as 'Number of accidents' from Participant in car accident where responsibility='YES' group by Driver_ID order by COUNT (Participant.Driver_ID) desc But, I need to add drivers first and last name from the first table(using inner join, I suppose). I don't know how, because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause. Please help :)

• XRDP errors when trying to use sesman-x11rdp

  I've just installed Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop on an old laptop of mine and I wanted to set it up so I could remote into it from my windows desktop. I've installed XRDP, but when I attempt to login using sesman-x11rdp it logs in, then the window shuts down. • Legacy non-dpi-aware application resolution scaling?

  Our environment prominently featuers an outdated but absolutely mission-critical Win32 application that is not dpi-aware. It is optimized for an 800x600 display. Most of our users now have 17"-20" displays with native resolutions ranging from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050. However, they still operate these displays at 800x600 because the text in this legacy application is otherwise too small. Of course, it also means that nothing quite fits on the screen in Office 2007. Most of our workstations still run Windows XP, but some are on Windows 7 and there are more to come. About one-third of our users run the app remotely via MS Terminal Services, and the remainder run it locally. Is anyone aware of any method that could be used to scale this specific application to about 170%, so that it would fill a 1280x1024 screen, without affecting other applications that work best at the display's native resolution? I know how to do this in Mac OS X, but I have never found a way to do it in Windows. Of course, this ideally would be something that we could push out via Group Policy. I suppose we even could create a custom MSI package to re-deploy the legacy application with some sort of display virtualization layer, if such a thing exists.

• Using GitOAuthPlugin for Jenkins - not working as expected

  I need some clarity and maybe a fix. I'm using this plugin to authorise who views our Jenkins ci server: https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Github+OAuth+Plugin As I understand it anyone who is auth'd to view one of our github project's can also login to our Jenkins box. This works I thought it would also allow the person logging in to only view the Project that they have GitHub permission on. For instance. Three projects on GitHub (A,B,C). Three builds on Jenkins. User 1 has Git access to all 3 projects (A B C). User 2 has Git access to only 1 project (A). When logging into Jenkins: User 1 can see all 3 projects ( this works ) User 2 can only see project A The problem is User 2 can also see all 3 projects when they should only see 1! Have I got this correct, and if so is this a bug? I have the settings set in Jenkins configuration Github Authorization Settings. Here we have some admin users. One organization. And none out of the 4 checkboxes ticked. (User 2, is not an admin, is not part of the org). The plugin is open sourced here: https://github.com/mocleiri/github-oauth-plugin I was trying to get Jenkins to print me the Logs from the plugin but I also failed at viewing these (to see if there was an issue). • Blank black screen with cursor after login -- RHEL5

  I have a RHEL 5 machine here which is a Dell Precision T3500. I'm an Ubuntu guy, but I'm having a heck of a time with this machine. After processing its first security update, we cannot log in via the gdm greeter. A new kernel was installed; then I installed the nVidia drivers for our Quadro NVS 295. I know the X configuration is valid because the gdm greeter does display; however, upon login all we can get is a blank, black screen with a cursor. I thought perhaps our python installation was corrupted but a reinstall via yum has not helped. I have searched & googled extensively for a potential fix for this and can find nothing. Below are outputs from uname, a tail of an error in /var/log/messages, and the Xorg.conf. Can anyone suggest a course of action? • Windows 7 Media Center PC not displaying MKV files properly

  Does anyone know why Windows Media Center wouldn't correctly display a 16x9 video? I just upgraded my home-built HTPC from Vista Ultimate (hey, it was a giveaway) to Windows 7 Ultimate - clean install. After that, I installed the Divx7 beta (to get .MKV support) and AC3filter (so I could HEAR the MKV files). Previously, under Vista Ultimate (32 bit), I had Arcsoft's Total Theater Pro for playing Blu-Rays and MKV decoding under Media Center. Now when I play a 720p 16x9 MKV file, I get some 'letterboxing' - like it's halfway between 4x3 and 16x9 - with the aspect ration looking alightly squished as a result. Here's the wierd part. If I use the Media Center connection software in my XBox 360 - it plays perfectly, filling the 16x9 screen edge-to-edge, just like Vista's WMC software USED to. Of course, beats the network up because the XBox goes to the HTPC, the HTPC goes to my WHS machine to fetch the data, it comes back to the HTPC, gets transcoded and streamed back to the Xbox. I'm running the latest drivers for an NVidia card (as fetched by Windows 7). I have no idea WHY this is because if I play "ordinary" (i.s. SD) Divx files that are 16x9, they play just fine, scaled right up to my screen's edges. It puzzles me as to why the same machine that properly converts the bits for the Xbox can't display/scale them properly for the attached display. Mind you, Windows Media Player exhibits the same symptoms. Ideas?

• Best way to mount 3-4 monitor like this?

  I just purchased 2 HP 2009m widescreen monitors, they are not the biggest thing on the block, they are like 19-20" and are only around 150-200$ so I think they are perfect. I bought 2 of them just to make sure I like them, with the full intention of purchasing more to make either a tripple or quad display. I now I am stuck trying to decide, if I purchase 1 more to have a tripple display I would then like to just wrap the third monitor to either the rigth or left side, I could do this without a mount most likely pretty easy. If I decide to go with 2 more monitors to make a quad display then I would like to add the 2 new monitor directly above the 2 that I have now. So it would make a grid of 2 wide and 2 high. I have posted a few photos belwo to show them now with the 2 I have, you will notice that I have them tilted inwards to make more of a "V" shape instead of them being side by side and "STRAIGHT". Now if I decide to make thegrid of 4 then I will need to buy or build a stand to hold them all tightly together (no whitespace or gap between the grid of monitors) but I would like to still have both rows invert to make the slight "V". Do you know of any existing stands I could purchase that would hold all 4 monitors without making them be STARIGHT without the "V" shape? Any tips appreciated please, also they do have holes in the back for VESA. a few photos... (they are from iphone and lighting made them note very good but you can see what I am working with here)

• Why wireless adatper stop to work?

  today I correctly installed the driver for the TP-LINK TL-WN725N USB wireless adapter on my RaspBerry Pi (I use RaspBian that is a Debian), then I setted up the wifi using the wpa-supplicant as explained in this tutorial: http://www.maketecheasier.com/setup-wifi-on-raspberry-pi/ This worked fine untill this evening. Then suddenly it stopped to work when I try to connect in SSH and the Raspberry is on the wireless (or rather it should be, as this is not in the list of my router's DHCP connected Client) The strange thing is that the USB wirless adapter blink so I think that this is not a driver problem. If I try to connect it by the ethernet I have no problem. It appear in my router's DHCP connected Client and I can connect to it by SSH. • Monit - script not being executed as expected

  I'm working on a Windows 7 machine, having a VM for Ubuntu (image disk: 12.04-desktop-i386.iso). On the VM I installed Monit 5.3.2, and configured some processes and applications. So I created a script to run my application. This application should display some content on the screen (Im basically displaying two images, using Feh). The thing is: if I call my script through the command line, it runs ok, and display the images. But if I run through monit, it seems to be running ok, but it doesn't display the images.In the case I try to debug it (remote debug), then I can see the images. So I was supposing this could be some kind of configuration, but didn't find out what (even using the option -I wou'ldn't work). • Where can I find a useful multi-language Unicode font for Mac OS X?

  On every browser I've tried (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Omniweb), when I go to a web page containing somewhat less-common characters, I can't see the glyphs. For example, on the Wikipedia page for the Bengali Language, the very first line contains a string of squares; on Windows, I can see the Bengali writing. Firefox does display code points on the Coptic Language article, but not Bengali. I'm not sure why. On Windows, as long as I have the Arial Unicode MS font installed, these characters fall back to that font and display properly. Mac OS X doesn't seem to ship with a font containing these Unicode characters (it has Arial Unicode MS, but it must be a subset of the Windows version because Bengali doesn't display in that font). I checked on my Snow Leopard DVD and I installed "Additional Fonts" from the Optional Installs package, but I'm still missing many languages. Is there any good, free font that contains a large collection of languages? I know creating fonts is difficult and time-consuming, but it seems like including at least one font like this with operating systems should be standard by now.

• Vista gets stuck in an endless loop while booting

  I put my laptop to sleep last night, and when I woke up this morning... it didn't. So I tried to reboot, and everything went fine until it got to the Vista splash screen, where it's supposed to display the logon. Here, it hits an endless loop: Display the cursor with the blue spinny thing that replaced the hourglass, for 5-10 seconds Display "Please wait..." for about half a second Screen flashes to black, then quickly back to the Vista splash screen Goto step 1 The whole time, my hard LED is on almost non-stop. I can boot into Safe Mode... sometimes. Sometimes it'll load all the drivers, then sit there for about 10 minutes, spinning the hard drive non-stop, then reboot with no warning. I tried booting to Last Known Good Configuration. Didn't fix anything. When I've managed to get into Safe Mode, I tried running CHKDSK. Didn't fix anything. I tried running System Restore to each of my last two restore points. Didn't fix anything either time. I ran a virus scan. Didn't find anything. I tried calling the manufacturer (Alienware), only to discover that my warranty expired last freaking week and now I can't get it fixed without paying exorbitant sums of money. I'm about at my wits' end here. Has anyone seen this problem before? Does anyone know how to fix it? Does anyone know a solution that does not involve reinstalling the OS and losing an entire year's worth of program installations, Windows Updates and configuring and tweaking things until it's working just like I want it to?

• How can I run Gnome or KDE locally in Cygwin?

• Chrome's new window disappear from desktop

  I'm having this problem with Chrome on a Windows 7 x86 machine. I'm using Chrome for a locally hosted intranet web app. In the web app, there's frequent use of new window which popup, which works like a dialog box for the app. The problem started since yesterday. All the new windows doesn't appear on top and no where to be found on the desktop. But it does appear on the taskbar. Clicking the button on the taskbar doesn't bring up the window as well. I've also tried Alt+Space, then Move, it doesn't work. I only found 2 way to bring it up, Maximize or Show as tab. What could have caused this and how should I fix it? Thanks EDIT: I've configure to not group taskbar buttons. EDIT: I've just gone through the javascript of the button, it call window.open to display the popup. I can see the popup flicker and disappear. If I step through the code, the popup will display properly, sometime. Also, if I click the button twice, it will also display the popup, but at a much smaller size, less than 100x100

  Hello I have a Postfix setup with Dovecot and MySql. The server is running Debian Squeeze. The MySql server is a slave that has data pushed to it from a primary (postfix) mail server(running a different os). The emails are stored on a replicated GlusterFS volume. I am able to check email using thunderbird over IMAP. However, SMTP requests fail. After turning on query logs for the MySql server I have noticed that no query statement is executed to retrieve the user information when an SMTP client tries to authenticate. I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong or what the next troubleshooting steps are. I'm about to pull my hair out. Below is some log and configuration data that I thought would be relevant. • Win 7 dual monitor: Don't move application windows when turn off second monitor

  The title is correct, it should say "Don't" not "Doesn't". I Don't want the application windows to be moved to the main monitor when I turn off the monitors. On my Win XP dual monitor system, I can turn off the monitors and when I turn them back on, the application windows are in the same locations on the same monitors as when I turned the monitors off. On the Win 7 system, every time I turn off the monitors (or just the second monitor), all of the application windows are moved to the "main" monitor. After experimenting with the settings, I've found one process that enables me to turn off the monitors and still keep my application windows laid out in my chosen locations on the two monitors: 1) Switch the display setting to a single monitor. 2) Turn off the monitors. 3) Turn on the monitors. 4) Switch the display setting back to "Extend these Displays". After step 4, the application windows that I had laid out on the second monitor are moved back to their original locations on the second monitor. Is there a windows or nVidia setting that would leave the application windows on the second monitor so that I don't need to switch the display settings every time I turn off the monitors? • Authenticate VNC session with ConsolKit?

  I have a linux machine running Fedora 16 in a cupboard. It has no screen or keyboard. I connect to it using a combination of vnc and ssh. Recently, after an update, I have had issues with authentication on the machine. If I vnc to it, the kde desktop pops up an error dialog every few minutes saying Authorization failed. Failed to obtain authentication. If I plug in a USB drive it fails to mount, Dolphin reports an authentication issue again. I have had limited success finding the solution. AFAICT, it is an issue with ConsoleKit deeming me to be a non-local user so it prevents authentication.   I have problem with slow disk transfer rate. It's static files server for our website. I was making backup of data and noticed that tar is very slow. So I did hdparm -t and... hdparm -t /dev/sda3 /dev/sda3: Timing buffered disk reads: 6 MB in 4.70 seconds = 1.28 MB/sec It's low traffic hour now on our site, so huge I/O traffic is not a reason (iotop show less than 1 MB/s). It's RAID10 setup (2x2 SATA drives). • Mod_rewrite to eliminate query strings

  Hi everyone, I have been working on this for a while but I'm not finding exactly what I am looking for. I am writing a webapp to let my users create and publish pieces of HTML content in a domain and URL folder structure of their choosing. All of the content and requested URL structures are stored in a database. I have all of the code in my index.php (in the root folder) to access the database content, and based on the server name (and hopefully folder structure) will pick out the proper content from the DB and display it to the end-users browser. So my situation looks like this: www.test.com/index.php?id=123234345 ... will display the proper page, but I want my users to be able to define a unique "page name" instead of using the numeric index (also I want to hide the /index.php part) so what I would like the end-user to see is: www.test.com/arbitrary-unique-keyword/keyword2/keyword3 which will invoke the index.php page in the root folder. Then I will use the PHP $_SERVER['PATH_INFO'] variable to match the requested folder structure up with the proper content in my database and display that. All the material I have found so far expects me to hard code parts of the folder structure into the rules.... but I think I want something simpler (perhaps). So the question in a nutshell: How do I use mod_rewrite to allow all "non-existent" folder paths be passed through to a main index.php residing in the root folder? (For all paths that DO exist, like for calls to images... I want those to succeed and not be directed to the index.php obviously) Thanks everyone, please let me know if I can clear anything up.
