  I have an application called foo that runs as root. The foo calls system function to execute the other application which show tray icon using Qt. The Systray Icon Example in Qt is working properly in user account but not in root. I run the following command to drop privileges: system(“exec su -l user -c ‘export DISPLAY=:0; /opt/systray &’”); However, the systray icon doesn’t appear in Ubuntu 13.10 & 14.04. Is there any way to display this systray in this case except for the solution that uses a PPA that comes with to re-enable the systray whitelist?

• mouse to Three.js world coordinates during TrackballControls

  I know there are a lot of answers how to translate the mouse coordinates to the Three.js world coordinates (I prefere this one). But I have troubles on calculating when using TrackballControls. First what I expect to do: I want to add a zoom function to my scene. Not by the mouse wheel, the user should be able to draw a rectangular and by lifting the mouse button, the camera is zooming on this rectangular. I've implemented all and it works, but only when the user didn't rotate/zoom/pan with TrackballControls! If the camera was manipulated, I get wrong coordinates for my drawn rectangular. I really can't figure out why... I only know that it's an issue with TrackballControls, because without them, it works. Does anyone see my mistake? • Rendering a WPF Network Map/Graph layout - Manual? PathListBox? Something Else?

  I'm writing code to present the user with a simplified network map. At any given time, the map is focused on a specific item... say a router or a server. Based on the focused item, other network entities are grouped into sets (i.e. subnets or domains) and then rendered around the focused item. Lines would represent connections and groups would be visually grouped inside a rectangle or ellipse. Panning and zooming are required features. An item can be selected to display more information in a "properties" style window. An item could also be double-clicked to re-focus the entire network map on that item. At that point, the entire map would be re-calculated. I am using MVVM without any framework, as of yet. Assume the logic for grouping items and determining what should be shown or not is all in place. I'm looking for the best way to approach the UI layout. So far, I'm aware of the following options: Use a canvas for layout (inside a ScrollViewer to handle the panning). Have my ViewModel make use of a Layout Manager type of class, which would handle assigning all the layout properties (Top, Left, etc.). Bind my set of display items to an ItemsControl and use Data Templates to handle the actual rendering. The drawbacks with this approach: Highly manual layout on my part. Lots of calculation. I have to handle item selection manually. Computation of connecting lines is manual. The Pros of this approach: I can draw additional lines between child subnets as appropriate (manually). Additional LayoutManagers could be added later to render the display differently. This could probably be wrapped up into some sort of a GraphLayout control to be re-used. Present the focused item at the center of the display and then use a PathListBox for layout of the additional items. Have my ViewModel expose a simple list of things to be drawn and bind them to the PathListBox. Override the ListBoxItem Template to also create a line geometry from the borders of the focused item (tricky) to the bound item. Use DataTemplates to handle the case where the item being bound is a subnet, in which case we would use another PathListBox in the template to display items inside the subnet. The drawbacks with this approach: Selected Item synchronization across multiple `PathListBox`es. Only one item on the whole graph can be selected at a time, but each child PathListBox maintains its own selection. Also, subnets cannot be selected, but would be selectable without additional work. Drawing the connecting lines is going to be a bit of trickery in the ListBoxItem template, since I need to know the correct side of the focused item to connect to. The pros of this approach: I get to stay out of the layout business, more. I'm looking for any advice or thoughts from others who have encountered similar issues or who have more WPF experience than I. I'm using WPF 4, so any new tricks are legal and encouraged.

• OnSelectedIndexChange only fires on second click when using custom page validation script

  Okay.. this is hard to explain, so here it goes. I have an update panel which contains a number of controls. The update panel is triggered by the OnSelectedIndexChanged event of a dropdownlist called: ddlUSCitizenshipStatus. It works as expected when I selected a new item. However, if I leave ddlUSCitizenshipStatus with the default value, and then click "submit" button on the page, the requiredfieldvalidators say there is an error on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus (which it should, as I never selected a value). So I then choose a value, the error message goes away on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus, however the updatepanel does not refresh. I've debugged this locally and the OnSelectedIndexChanged event for ddlUSCitizenshipStatus does not fire. If I choose an item in the ddlUSCitizenshipStatus list a second time, the OnSelectedIndexChanged server event fires and the update panel refreshes and works as expected. The issue is, I have to select an item in ddlUSCitizenshipStatus twice, after failed validation, before the updatepanel it's sitting in updates. The submit button on the page looks like this: <asp:LinkButton ID="btnSubmitPage1" runat="server" CssClass="continueButton" OnClick="btnSubmitPage1_Click" CausesValidation="true" OnClientClick="javascript: return ValidatePage();" /> If I remove my custom OnClientClick script, making the submit button look like this: <asp:LinkButton ID="btnSubmitPage1" runat="server" CssClass="continueButton" OnClick="btnSubmitPage1_Click" CausesValidation="true" ValidationGroup="valGrpAdditionalInformation" /> The dropdownlist, update panel, and reguiredfieldvalidator all work as expected. • Actionscript 3: Monitoring the activity level for multiple Microphones doesn't seem to work.

  For a project I want to show all available webcams and microphones, so that the user can easily select whichever webcam/microphone combination they prefer. I run into an issue with the microphones listing though. Each microphone is listed with an activity animation and it's name. I am able to list all Microphones just fine (using the Microphone.names Array), but it seems like I can only get the activity viewer to work for one microphone. The other microphones show up with '-1' activity, which (as far as I know) is Flex for 'present, but not in use'. When unplugging the microphone that does show activity, the next one (in my case, the mic-in line on my motherboard) shows up with '0' activity (it's not connected, so that makes sense). During my testing I have a total of 3 microphones available, the not-connected onboard mic-in port, and two connected microphones. For testing purposes I use a timer that traces the current microphone activity each 100ms and the graph is also shown. It does not seem to matter what default microphone I set via flash' settings panel. The code I've only attached the revelant code snippets below to make it easier for you to read through them. Please let me know if you prefer the entire code. • ie9/CSS: Flyout menu not working in ie9, but looks great in Firefox/Chrome

• Need to hide displayed div when I show others

  I am stuck. I have a page with 3 buttons, the 3 buttons do a couple things - they change the style of a div, and they also show/hide a content div. The changing of the div style works fine, but I am having issues with the content div. If you land on the page and click the "Our Brands" tab, then click the other 2 tabs, it works fine. • Generating cache file for Twitter rss feed

  I'm working on a site with a simple php-generated twitter box with user timeline tweets pulled from the user_timeline rss feed, and cached to a local file to cut down on loads, and as backup for when twitter goes down. I based the caching on this: http://snipplr.com/view/8156/twitter-cache/. It all seemed to be working well yesterday, but today I discovered the cache file was blank. Deleting it then loading again generated a fresh file. The code I'm using is below. I've edited it to try to get it to work with what I was already using to display the feed and probably messed something crucial up. The changes I made are the following (and I strongly believe that any of these could be the cause): - Revised the time difference code (the linked example seemed to use a custom function that wasn't included in the code) Removed the "serialize" function from the "fwrites". This is purely because I couldn't figure out how to unserialize once I loaded it in the display code. I truthfully don't understand the role that serialize plays or how it works, so I'm sure I should have kept it in. If that's the case I just need to understand where/how to deserialize in the second part of the code so that it can be parsed. Removed the $rss variable in favor of just loading up the cache file in my original tweet display code.   Hey! Hopefully quick question.... I have a .MDB file stored on my webserver and I'm trying to connect to it. I have no way of "registering" it with a name in ODBC. • FileSystemWatcher.WaitForChanged returns, but there is still a lock on the file

  I have a program that send a document to a pdf printer driver and that driver prints to a particular directory. After the print I want to attach the pdf to an e-mail (MailMessage) and send it off. Right now, I send the document to the printer (wich spawns a new process) and then call a FileSystemWatcher.WaitForChanged(WaitForChangedResult.Created) but when the object is created, it's still not done "printing" and the pdf printer still has a lock on it, throwing an error when I try to attach that file to an e-mail. I've considered a plain Thread.Sleep(2000) or whatever, but that's far less than ideal. I considered putting the attachment code in a try/catch block and looping on failure, but again, that's just bad news. I can't really think of an elegant solution.

  My signed Java applet has been running fine until Java update 19. Now some but not all of our users on Java Update 19 report a java security message stating that our applet contains both signed and unsigned code. The process for creating our applet is as follows: 1: Clean and Build the applet project in Netbeans IDE. 2: Open the Applet jar file in WinRAR and add the required mysql JDBC driver .class files to the jar file. 3: Sign the applet jar file. Can someone please tell me how to determine what code is signed and what code is not signed in our applet? Is there a better way to include the mysql JDBC driver jar file in our applet other than copying the jar file contents into our applet jar file? Thanks
