• Best practice to mark deprecated code in Ruby?

  I'd like to mark a method as deprecated, so the people using it can easily check their code and catch up. In Java you set @Deprecated and everybody knows what this means. So is there a preferred way (or even tools) to mark and check for deprecations in Ruby?

  Hello, I've got the following question: Is it possible te disable everything in windows except the program it's running? I need to program an application on a touchscreen (fullscreen), where people can fill in a survey. The only thing they should use is this program. (for protection of the survey anwsers and other secret stuff :p ) And the program should be closed when entering the right password. So how can I disable everything else but the program I'm running?   Can anyone point me to any self-contained, complete, current reference materials/projects using NHibernate in an ASP.NET MVC2 application? I have looked at Sharp Architecture, but I am not sure I need the complexity in that project. I certainly don't know enough about it to know if it is over-engineered for my purposes. I would like to see more types of implementations to gauge the various ways people have skinned this cat.

• Version control: delete branches after merging?

  When you branch some code, finish working with the branch, and merge it back to the trunk, what do you do with the branch? Delete it from the repository? Keep it for reference? It seems like you would keep it for reference, but I imagine the /branches directory could get pretty cluttered. (If this isn't something people generally agree on, please comment and I'll make it a community wiki.)

  Data.XX.NewValue := Data.XX.SavedValue; Data.XX.OldValue := Data.XX.SavedValue; I need to do the above a large number of times, where XX represents the value in the class. Pretending there were 3 items in the list: Tim, Bob, Steve. Is there any way to do the above for all three people without typing out the above code three times? (Data is a class containing a number of Objects, each type TList, which contain OldValue, NewValue and SavedValue)

  I just installed the Nfc Demo from google, but it doesn´t read the information from the Tag.- It just provides some fakeTag information. Has anybody an idea, where I can change the sample to read from the nfc Tag? Or has somebody a working nfc demo for the nexus? I have a CAPTCHA system in places, and for some things it will always ask for a code, and for other things, it will ask once every 10 minutes. I have had some players use the auto submit feature on Opera, and my CAPTCHA system does stop them. My question is, how can I minimise the amount of times I am asking for a code, but still stop people using this auto-submit?

• Need to remotely create an ODBC connection to a SQl server.

  I have an Access 2007 database with a table in it that is linked to a SQL server. I need to roll this version of the database out to approximately 10 people in different states. In order to do that, they need an ODBC connection to the SQL server installed on their machines. I am looking for a way to do this remotely. • What do you think is the best language for Bioinformatics?

  I have done a couple research jobs in Bio-informatics and I have used Matlab for them. Matlab had a lot of powerful tools and was easy to use. I did thinks with genome sequencing and predicting metabolic pathways. I am wondering what other people think is best? or there might not be one specific language but a few that lend themselves best to Bio-informatics work that is math heavy and deals with a large amount of data.
