• Stop Foxit PhantomPDF Standard from Opening PDFs in Internet Explorer 11

  Is there a way to stop Foxit PhantomPDF from opening a linked PDF in the browser plugin? My desired behavior is for it to open the PDF in a Foxit PhantomPDF window. I've looked for an add-in, but there is none. Foxit support recommended the following solution -- select File Preferences File Associations Advanced Uncheck Include Browser... Select OK Select Make Default PDF Viewer but it didn't make a difference. How exactly is Internet Explorer making the decision to open it in the browser plugin instead of a separate PhantomPDF window? How can I change that?

• Make exact copy of USB stick [closed]

  There's this school software on a USB drive. It only runs, when the stick they gave is plugged in. Cloning the drive with dd command didn't work. I'm guessing it checks the hardware ID of the flash drive. Is there any way to change drives information? I guess not, but is it possible to create a virtual flash drive with exactly same hardware id and all other read-only information that the software is most probably checking. EDIT: The paper math books we have dont' have answers. So when I'm doing homework I have no idea if did it right. The electronic version does have the answers. The publisher didn't put them into paper version because of simple reason - money. They would have to republish the book if some answers are found to be wrong. So I feel no shame trying to pirate that software, because publishers are ruining our math education.

• Redircting to a url that has a ? in it

  I have a somewhat strange problem. A client has moved their site to Wordpress - cool no problem. They use a service for link exchanges that has a Wordpress plugin. The issue is that the new Links pages use a query string to display the correct content and I cannot figure out how to redirect the old URLs correctly. Old URLs look like this: domain.com/link/category-name.html The plugin makes them look like this in WP: domain.com/links/?page=category-name.html How in the world can I get the redirect to work properly? Here's what I have tried: Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/?page=actors.html Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/%3Fpage=actors.html Redirect 301 /link/actors.html http://www.artisticimages.biz/links/\?page=actors.html But none of those have worked. • Scroll bar for vim(curses-based one, not gvim)?

  As a Linux user, I have been quite comfortable with CLI and TUI tools, but I miss the little scrollbar present in almost every GUI program. It has always been easier for me to know how long the file is and where I am from the scrollbar instead of "9752 lines, 24%". What I expect is a ASCII scrollbar that looks like | | | | # # # | | | and I can configure to appear on the left or right (and if on the left, the relative position to line numbers and fold marks). Is there already a Vim plugin to do this, or how can I write my own one? Vim's plugin framework doesn't seem to support such UI modifications directly.

  What I want to do is to clone my virtual box hdd with dual boot os. Xp and Vista. I'm using acronis and back it up on a flash drive. And end up with the flash drive that is partitioned. 2 partitions just like the virtual box hard disk. What do I do to restore it. I'm running acronis inside virtual box. What do I do to make use of the backup and actually restore what I've back up. And to be able to boot to xp and vista again inside virtual box. Please help.

• Concerning persistence size in the Linux Live Creator

  Message : Hello everyone! I have ,for the last several months, used the Linux Live USB Creator which it is a very useful app to make portable OS on to flash drives. I mostly use this application to test and try out new OS's as they are released, before I decide to make a hard disk installatio on to the computer. In many cases, the application developers will allow the “persistence” feature in the flash-drive-installed OS, which is just another way of saying that after multiple boot-ups and shutdowns, all the changes made to the OS will be saved in the flash-drive. But I have a question about the limit of the Persistence size in Linux Live USB Creator (currently version 2.6). I install Super OS 10 on to a partition on my external drive which has 30 GB. I wanted to reserve 10 GB for the persistence so that I can install more applications and space will not run out as I update the installed applications or when I do system updates. But why is it that only 3950 MB can be put for persistence? It would be great if, when desired, as much more persistence space could be set aside so that the space will not run out soon. Also, as I have installed the OS on a 30 GB drive, I tried to see how much space is left. But it seems only the remaining of the Persistence space is displayed when I click on the File System folder. For example, after I have just installed it now, there is 3.5 GB of free space. Where can I access the remaining 26 GB or so drive space which is in the same drive? How do I access it Sir?? It would be helpful if any one could explain and help me with this. Most importantly, it would be a big relief if the persistence can be somehow expanded by a work-around so that I can continue using my SuperOS 10.04 (now heavily customized) OS, which unfortunately has just over 576 MB of space left now, after I removed OpenOffice.org and installed the Libre Office earlier today. This is what remains from the maximum allowable 3950 MB of space for persistence at set-up. Thanks in advance!

  I'm running Wordpress website with Nginx and Memcached. I have simple DNS round robin balancing with A records pointing to both web servers. I've noticed the following entries in both web servers access logs: 192.168.1.10 example.com - [07/Jun/2012:22:43:58 +0100] "-" 400 0 "-" "-" - 0.000 192.168.1.10 example.com - [07/Jun/2012:22:43:58 +0100] "-" 400 0 "-" "-" - 0.000 192.168.1.10 example.com - [07/Jun/2012:22:43:58 +0100] "-" 400 0 "-" "-" - 0.000 192.168.1.10 example.com - [07/Jun/2012:22:43:58 +0100] "-" 400 0 "-" "-" - 0.000 192.168.1.10 example.com - [07/Jun/2012:22:43:58 +0100] "-" 400 0 "-" "-" - 0.000 I've configured W3 Total cache plugin for Wordpress - pointing to loopback address (127.0.0.1:11211) on each Wordpress installation. Is this because the webserver is trying to access content that is cached on the other web server? Shall I add IPs to W3 plugin of both web servers on each website (192.168.1.:11211, 192.168.1.2:11211)? I'm not sure if this related to Memcached or maybe some configuration issue on the server itself? Regards

• Windows log file monitor that supports custom events (eg. sending an email when it detects the string "ERROR")

  I know this question has been asked several times before but I can't seem to find a solution for my requirements. I currently use BareTail, which works wonderfully except that it doesn't support custom events besides line highlighting. I'm also trying TailForWin32. It has a SMTP plugin but it seems to be in beta status, and the highlighting seems limited. It also doesn't handle rolling log files very well (a blocking dialog box pops up, whereas BareTail just rolls over naturally). All I really need is something like BareTail that supports custom events. First prize would be a tool with a plugin-based architecture so I can use my own messaging plugins, but anything that supports SMTP mail would be fine as well.

• Saving backup files automatically in (g)Vim after saving a file.

  I had a problem with my gVim. I lost some important modifications after I plugged on my machine after a hibernating process. To avoid this kind of problem, I would like to know if it's possible to add something in my .vimrc (or a plugin) that automatically backups all saving made to my files. Disk space is not an issue, I can delete these files after. I'm already using set backup set backupdir=~/.backup/vim set directory=~/.swap/vim This creates a myfile.extension~ in my .backup/vim. ...but I would like this configuration to add ~ to first save, ~0 to second, ~1 to third, ~2 to fourth, and so on - something that keeps copies from all modifications I made to a file. Is this possible? Do you know if there's a plugin for this?

• What is this PHP process? It is crippling my server

  This process has been using 65% of my site CPU and has lasted for about 10 minutes now (aren't processes only supposed to go for a couple seconds?) It is obviously something with mysql. This makes sense because I have a lot of queries going, but something still seems a bit odd... This could have something to do with my bad PDO connection that I mentioned in the previous question. Perhaps I am opening too many connections or something like that? Here is the stats on it: Owner: mysql Priority: 0 CPU %: 61.1 Memory %: 0.4 Command:/usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --plugin-dir=/usr/lib64/mysql/plugin --user=mysql --log-error=/var/lib/mysql/cvps54834319.myhost.com.err --pid-file=/var/lib/mysql/cvps54834319.myhost.com.pid Thanks for any help on this. • USB 3.0 Not Working

  I bought an Asus A43E laptop which comes with one USB 3.0 port. In Windows 7 it was working just fine, but after Windows 8 has been installed the USB doesnt work anymore. When I insert any flash drive windows has no reaction. I have been trying to find a driver but I couldnt find one that fits. I know this port works cause I am able to boot windows throw a flash drive. It might be some driver missing. You guys have any idea how can I solve this?

• Making Cisco WebEx work with 13.10 Saucy 64-bit

  I was having a very hard time getting webex to work under Saucy. Up until now I've been able to just install a java plugin, install ia32-libs, and I was good to go. With Saucy ia32-libs is gone and it's up to us to figure out which 32-bit libraries we need to install. I struggled with this for a few days trying blindly to install this and that until I found a way to get exactly what I need. I got the clue I needed from this post: http://blogs.kde.org/2013/02/05/ot-how-get-webex-working-suse-linux-122-64bit#comment-9534 and for anyone who wants it, here is a step-by-step method to follow that works every time (so far) ***Install JDK and configure java plugin for browser. No need for a 32-bit JDK or Firefox ***Try to start a webex. This will create $HOME/.webex/1324/ ***Check those .so libraries for unresolved dependencies by running ldd against them. For example: ldd $HOME/.webex/1324/*.so >>check.txt Look in check.txt for anything that is not found.   Friday is here once again and it’s time to play a fun flash game on company time. Today we take a look at the space shooter Omega Crisis. Omega Crisis At the start of the game you’re given the basic story of the game, defending the space outpost, and instructions on how to play. Controls are easy, just target the enemy and use the left mouse button to fire. After each level you’re shown the results and how many Tech Points you’ve earned. The more Tech Points you earn, you have a better chance of upgrading your weapons and base defense before the next level.   You can also go into Manage Mode by hitting the Space bar, and select gunners and other types of weapons to help defend the outpost. Choose your mission from the timeline after successfully completing a mission. You can also use A,W,D,S to move around the map and see exactly where the enemy ships are coming from. This makes it easier to destroy them before they get too close to your base. This game is a lot of fun and is similar to different “Desktop Defense” type games. If you’re looking for a fun way to waste the afternoon, and not look at TPS reports, Omega Crisis can get you though until the whistle blows.   Firefox 15 includes an all new PDF reader built into the browser–for those of you wondering, that means you can finally disable the Adobe PDF Plugin and uninstall it once and for all. Note: obviously if you need to access more advanced PDF features, you’ll still need the Adobe plugin. For most of us, however, the built-in viewer is fine, or you could download PDF files and read them in the offline Adobe Reader.   Using Shotwell, I discovered that to publish to Flickr I need to set up an online account. But the online-accounts system settings only has support for Google, Facebook, Windows Live, Microsoft Exchange and Enterprise Login (Kerberos). How do I add account types? These appear to be properly installed (dpkg-reconfigure returns silently): gnome-control-center-signon is already the newest version. account-plugin-yahoo is already the newest version. account-plugin-flickr is already the newest version.
