    - by metal-gear-solid
    I use IE7.js but it doesn't have CSS3 support. I use jQuery always in my projects. What is the best lightweight way to give all CSS3 selectors and properties support to IE 6,7,8? I'm not asking for HTML5 support only asking to give CSS3 support in as much as light on performance way.

  • Website column width

    - by keks
    Hi, I am interested what column widths you would suggest for two-column and three-column websites. For example if we consider two-column layout (total width 1000px), some possible widths would be: 900-100, 800-200, 750-250, 700-300, 600-400. Which layout is best for usability, possible ad placements, widget integration?

  • When is #include <new> library required in C++?

    - by Czarak
    Hi, According to this reference entry for operator new ( http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/std/new/operator%20new/ ) : Global dynamic storage operator functions are special in the standard library: All three versions of operator new are declared in the global namespace, not in the std namespace. The first and second versions are implicitly declared in every translation unit of a C++ program: The header does not need to be included for them to be present. This seems to me to imply that the third version of operator new (placement new) is not implicitly declared in every translation unit of a C++ program and the header <new> does need to be included for it to be present. Is that correct? If so, how is it that using both g++ and MS VC++ Express compilers it seems I can compile code using the third version of new without #include <new> in my source code? Also, the MSDN Standard C++ Library reference entry on operator new gives some example code for the three forms of operator new which contains the #include <new> statement, however the example seems to compile and run just the same for me without this include? // new_op_new.cpp // compile with: /EHsc #include<new> #include<iostream> using namespace std; class MyClass { public: MyClass( ) { cout << "Construction MyClass." << this << endl; }; ~MyClass( ) { imember = 0; cout << "Destructing MyClass." << this << endl; }; int imember; }; int main( ) { // The first form of new delete MyClass* fPtr = new MyClass; delete fPtr; // The second form of new delete char x[sizeof( MyClass )]; MyClass* fPtr2 = new( &x[0] ) MyClass; fPtr2 -> ~MyClass(); cout << "The address of x[0] is : " << ( void* )&x[0] << endl; // The third form of new delete MyClass* fPtr3 = new( nothrow ) MyClass; delete fPtr3; } Could anyone shed some light on this and when and why you might need to #include <new> - maybe some example code that will not compile without #include <new> ? Thanks.

  • What is your custom exception hierrarchy?

    - by bonefisher
    My question is: how would you create exception hierarchy in your application? Designing the architecture of an application, from my perspective, we could have three types of exceptions: the built-in (e.g.: InvalidOperationException) custom internal system faults (DB transaction failed on commit, DbTransactionFailedException) custom business exceptions (BusinessRuleViolationException) Class hierarchy: Exception MyAppInternalException DbTransactionFailedException MyServerTimeoutException ... MyAppBusinessRuleViolationException UsernameAlreadyExistsException ... where only MyAppInternalException & MyAppBusinessRuleViolationException would be catched.

    What is the language with the lowest barriers to entry, simplest syntax, easiest setup. I'm aware that there's not a best language but I am sure that there will be one that's got a good score in all three areas. It's for teaching friends how to program, I like PHP and Python but I don't want to be narrow minded and limit myself when there is a better option out there. • simple jquery dropdown - clearTimeout, setTimeout issues

    - by user210757
    HTML: <ul class="topnav"> <li><a href="#"><span>One</span></a></li> <li><a href="#"><span>Two</span></a></li> <li> <li><a href="#"><span>Three</span></a></li> <ul class="subnav"> <li><a href="#">A</a></li> <li><a href="#">B</a></li> <li><a href="#">C</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> jquery: var timeout = null; $(document).ready(function() { $("ul.topnav li").mouseover(function() { if (timeout) clearTimeout(timeout); $(this).find("ul.subnav").slideDown('fast').show(); }).mouseout(function() { timeout = setTimeout(closemenu, 500); }); // sub menu mouseovers keep dropdown open $("ul.subnav li").mouseover(function() { if (timeout) clearTimeout(timeout); } ).mouseout(function() { timeout = setTimeout(closemenu, 500); // alert(timeout); }); // any click closes $(document).click(closemenu); }); // Closes all open menus function closemenu() { $('ul.subnav:visible').hide(); if (timeout) clearTimeout(timeout); } I'm having issues with timeout. In use, if i mouseover "Three", the dropdown stays out forever. if i mouseover "A", dropdown will stay out forever, but if I mouseover "B" or anything lower, the menu will close on me. if you uncomment "// alert(timeout);" it gets there for B, (and A) but timeout will have a value. why is this? i thought clearTimeout would null the timeout variable?

  • Simulate Photoshop's saturation changes in Imagemagick

    - by Ambirex
    In Photoshop you can adjust the hue, saturation and lightness of an image with three sliders. ImageMagick you can modulate the brightness, saturation, and hue. Minimizing the saturation correctly produces a black and white image in both programs. Maxing out the saturation appears close, but ImageMagick appears to soften some of the blown out edges while Photoshop will expose more the the compression artifacts. How can I accurately reproduce Photoshop's saturation changes from within ImageMagick, or other command line tool.

  • load Javascript object from file

    - by megapool020
    Hi there, I asked a question in this thread Stackoverflow, and it works perfect. So tnx to all the users who gave me a reply. But now I have a other question. I would like to have the object in a seperate file, so I only need to update the file in stead of the JS file (otherwise it will be very big). I'm using JQUERY. I now looks like this (with all the info in the JS file). IBANInfo is used to fill a selectbox var IBANInfo = { "ccAL":{ countryCode:"AL", countryName:"Albani&euml;", IBANlength:"28", bankFormCode:"0 8n 0 ", accountNum:"0 16 0 " }, "ccAD":{ countryCode:"AD", countryName:"Andorra", IBANlength:"24", bankFormCode:"0 4n 4n", accountNum:"0 12 0 " }, "ccBE":{ countryCode:"BE", countryName:"Belgi&euml;", IBANlength:"16", bankFormCode:"0 3n 0 ", accountNum:"0 7n 2n" } }; //---- then this function is used to build the selectList function createSelect(){ var selectList = ''; var key; selectList += "<option value=''>Kies een land</option>\n"; for (key in IBANInfo) { if (IBANInfo.hasOwnProperty(key)) { var countryInfo = IBANInfo[key]; selectList += "<option value='"+countryInfo.countryCode+"'>"+countryInfo.countryName+"</option>\n"; } } $('#selectBox').html(selectList); } I thought I could do it like this, but I get the message undefined in my selectbox. var IBANInfo = $.get('include/countryCodes.txt'); // also tried var IBANInfo = $.getJSON('include/countryCodes.txt'); //---- then this function is used to build the selectList function createSelect(){ var selectList = ''; var key; selectList += "<option value=''>Kies een land</option>\n"; for (key in IBANInfo) { if (IBANInfo.hasOwnProperty(key)) { var countryInfo = IBANInfo[key]; selectList += "<option value='"+countryInfo.countryCode+"'>"+countryInfo.countryName+"</option>\n"; } } $('#selectBox').html(selectList); } /* the countryCodes.txt file is like this: { "ccAL":{ countryCode:"AL", countryName:"Albani&euml;", IBANlength:"28", bankFormCode:"0 8n 0 ", accountNum:"0 16 0 " }, "ccAD":{ countryCode:"AD", countryName:"Andorra", IBANlength:"24", bankFormCode:"0 4n 4n", accountNum:"0 12 0 " }, "ccBE":{ countryCode:"BE", countryName:"Belgi&euml;", IBANlength:"16", bankFormCode:"0 3n 0 ", accountNum:"0 7n 2n" } } */ What am I doing wrong. Tnx in advance
