  • How to check if two DVDs are exactly the same?

    I have two DVDs and if I open the DVDs and copy the content to the HDD and compare the respective files on the HDD it shows no difference. As I know DVD does also have some additional content (this content includes information saying if the DVD is bootable and some formating information I guess). How can I check also this additional content? Is it somehow possible without additional programs, using Windows or Ubuntu?

    I have a 128G SSD(830) of samsung installed on my win7 ultimate 64 bits machine. I have tried to copy a folder from my C drive to the SSD drive. And I have found out that copy speed is so slow, please look at picture below: I am just want to know, if this is because of I was tried to copy so many small files By the way. the SSD is Sata 3, but my mobo only has SATA 2 interface, I do not know if connect SATA 3 device to SATA 2 interface contributes to slow copy speed.

  • Samba Permissions

    I have Samba set up on a Fedora 15 Machine. All looks well except that there's something nagging and I don't know what exactly is causing it. I have a public share on the server which is accessible by everyone and its permissions is set to 777. When one person opens a document under that share and closes it after working, the other person who opens it can't edit or save it because it opens in read only and shows that it's still open on another computer. What might be causing this and how can I resolve this?

  • can't enable share on clients in my network

    i installed on my subnet a win 2003 server as the domain controller, with dhcp and dns options too. the clients, win xp pro and and win 2003 server. in my clients when i log in via the domain, i don't have the option to share folders in the netwrok! i want to share folders this way: right lcick on the fodler Properties Sharing Share how can i make it appear? (if i log in to the computer as the administrator i do have this option) p.s. please be specific for how to enable it, thanks a lot :) nahman.

  • What video format works both on Windows and all Apple products out-of-the-box?

    What format and encoding should I use for video that would play out-of-the-box on both Windows and all Apple products (iPad, iPhone, etc.)? I know that the correct way to render an animation, is to first render it as images, but this is overkill when rendering short animations of a work in progress for the client to comment on. I have one client that views the vids on Windows and another that views them on iPad and iPhone. I'm hoping I could render just one video instead of rendering in two different formats.

  • Unable to share a folder between Windows 7 and Ubuntu (running in VMWare)

    I have installed vmware toolbox in ubuntu (guest OS). I tried to share a location from the settings of the virtual machine. But when I click Ok, the following error in thrown in the host (Win 7) OS. "Unable to update run-time folder sharing status: Unknown error." The location is not showing up in /mnt/ What could be the reason? P.S I have vmhgfs process running in my Ubuntu VM. I was following this method.

  • WIndows 7: would like recursively check a directory for changes to files and folders since my last visit

    I have found varieties of this question. Most of them fall under monitoring and others are said to be buggy. A continuously monitoring program won't help me and neither will a list of the most recently modified files. I would like to check if the directory, its sub folders and files have changed since my last visit. It seems to me that I'd likely need a program that maintains and index of that directory and compares it with its condition when I tell it to. Then that program could output to a log for my use. This is on Windows 7 over a shared network, the folder(s) I'd like to check have 4-50GB of data. I did find this, however I am still learning how to program.   • Uploading User Made Videos to iPhone (from Vista)

    Once a user downloads a video created with the iPhone 3GS and then deletes it from the iPhone, that video cannot be uploaded back to the iPhone...according to Apple. The videos are not treated as Photos and are not allowed to sync to and from the iPhone freely. Has anyone discovered a program or tweek that allows one to upload video to the iPhone? Thanks.

    File history is great but it saves your files on the external drive without any encryption and stores them using the exact same folder structure as the originals. If a bad guy gets his hands on the hard drive it could basically not be easier to get to your important files. Is there any way to encrypt the file history backup without breaking its functionality and without having to encrypt the original content itself? Thanks for your input!

  • Can't do SSH public key under cryptographed home [migrated]

I can't do ssh public key login to my server and I think this issue is related to the fact my home is using cryptography which set the permissions to 700 on /home/MY-USER I've tried another workstation and everything works fine. I would be glad if someone help me to get out this without revert the cryptography.

    I have a the folder c:\test\ and two files in it a.txt and b.txtv. I would like to process just the files with extension equal to .txt. If I write this commands cd c:\test for %f in (*.txt) do echo %f I will get the result where both a.txt and b.txtv are listed. The same happens with cd c:\test dir *.txt It seems .txt is the same of .txtv. I have Windows XP SP3 in Italian and the result of ver is Microsoft Windows XP [Versione 5.1.2600]. The same result is from Windows 7 in English Microsoft Windows XP [Version 6.1.7601].

    How do I list all files under a directory recursively and sort the output by modification time? I normally use ls -lhtc but it doesn't find all files recursively. I am using Linux and Mac. ls -l on Mac OS X can give -rw-r--r-- 1 fsr user 1928 Mar 1 2011 foo.c -rwx------ 1 fsr user 3509 Feb 25 14:34 bar.c where the date part isn't consistent or aligned, so a solution have to take this into account.     So, I just discovered that you can hide the filenames of pictures and videos when you are in a thumbnail view in explorer (via View - Hide file names)... but often I have other files mixed in. This causes the thumbnails to be all spaced out. How can I hide all file names (maybe folders too)?
