• Trace() method doesnt work in FlashDevelop

- by numerical25
When I put a trace("test"); at the entry point of my flashdevelop project and run it. The application runs fine but I do not see the trace in the output. Below is my code package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.Event; /** * ... * @author Anthony Gordon */ public class Main extends Sprite { public function Main():void { if (stage) init(); else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init); } private function init(e:Event = null):void { trace("test"); removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init); // entry point var game:Game = new Game(stage); addChild(game); } }

• How to use CFNetwork to get byte array from sockets?

- by Vic
Hi, I'm working in a project for the iPad, it is a small program and I need it to communicate with another software that runs on windows and act like a server; so the application that I'm creating for the iPad will be the client. I'm using CFNetwork to do sockets communication, this is the way I'm establishing the connection: char ip[] = "192.168.0.244"; NSString *ipAddress = [[NSString alloc] initWithCString:ip]; /* Build our socket context; this ties an instance of self to the socket */ CFSocketContext CTX = { 0, self, NULL, NULL, NULL }; /* Create the server socket as a TCP IPv4 socket and set a callback */ /* for calls to the socket's lower-level connect() function */ TCPClient = CFSocketCreate(NULL, PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP, kCFSocketDataCallBack, (CFSocketCallBack)ConnectCallBack, &CTX); if (TCPClient == NULL) return; /* Set the port and address we want to listen on */ struct sockaddr_in addr; memset(&addr, 0, sizeof(addr)); addr.sin_len = sizeof(addr); addr.sin_family = AF_INET; addr.sin_port = htons(PORT); addr.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr([ipAddress UTF8String]); CFDataRef connectAddr = CFDataCreate(NULL, (unsigned char *)&addr, sizeof(addr)); CFSocketConnectToAddress(TCPClient, connectAddr, -1); CFRunLoopSourceRef sourceRef = CFSocketCreateRunLoopSource(kCFAllocatorDefault, TCPClient, 0); CFRunLoopAddSource(CFRunLoopGetCurrent(), sourceRef, kCFRunLoopCommonModes); CFRelease(sourceRef); CFRunLoopRun(); And this is the way I sent the data, which basically is a byte array /* The native socket, used for various operations */ // TCPClient is a CFSocketRef member variable CFSocketNativeHandle sock = CFSocketGetNative(TCPClient); Byte byteData[3]; byteData[0] = 0; byteData[1] = 4; byteData[2] = 0; send(sock, byteData, strlen(byteData)+1, 0); Finally, as you may have noticed, when I create the server socket, I registered a callback for the kCFSocketDataCallBack type, this is the code. void ConnectCallBack(CFSocketRef socket, CFSocketCallBackType type, CFDataRef address, const void *data, void *info) { // SocketsViewController is the class that contains all the methods SocketsViewController *obj = (SocketsViewController*)info; UInt8 *unsignedData = (UInt8 *) CFDataGetBytePtr(data); char *value = (char*)unsignedData; NSString *text = [[NSString alloc]initWithCString:value length:strlen(value)]; [obj writeToTextView:text]; [text release]; } Actually, this callback is being invoked in my code, the problem is that I don't know how can I get the data that the windows client sent me, I'm expecting to receive an array of bytes, but I don't know how can I get those bytes from the data param. If anyone can help me to find a way to do this, or maybe me point me to another way to get the data from the server in my client application I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

• Java OutOfMemoryError strange behaviour

- by Evgeniy Dorofeev
Assuming we have a max memory of 256M, why does this code work: public static void main(String... args) { for (int i = 0; i < 2; i++) { byte[] a1 = new byte[150000000]; } byte[] a2 = new byte[150000000]; } but this one throw an OOME? public static void main(String... args) { //for (int i = 0; i < 2; i++) { byte[] a1 = new byte[150000000]; } byte[] a2 = new byte[150000000]; }

• XmlSerializer throws exception when serializing dynamically loaded type

- by Dr. Sbaitso
Hi I'm trying to use the System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer to serialize a dynamically loaded (and compiled class). If I build the class in question into the main assembly, everything works as expected. But if I compile and load the class from an dynamically loaded assembly, the XmlSerializer throws an exception. What am I doing wrong? I've created the following .NET 3.5 C# application to reproduce the issue: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Xml.Serialization; using System.Text; using System.Reflection; using System.CodeDom.Compiler; using Microsoft.CSharp; public class StaticallyBuiltClass { public class Item { public string Name { get; set; } public int Value { get; set; } } private List
values = new List
(); public List
Values { get { return values; } set { values = value; } } } static class Program { static void Main() { RunStaticTest(); RunDynamicTest(); } static void RunStaticTest() { Console.WriteLine("-------------------------------------"); Console.WriteLine(" Serializing StaticallyBuiltClass..."); Console.WriteLine("-------------------------------------"); var stat = new StaticallyBuiltClass(); Serialize(stat.GetType(), stat); Console.WriteLine(); } static void RunDynamicTest() { Console.WriteLine("-------------------------------------"); Console.WriteLine(" Serializing DynamicallyBuiltClass..."); Console.WriteLine("-------------------------------------"); CSharpCodeProvider csProvider = new CSharpCodeProvider(new Dictionary<string, string> { { "CompilerVersion", "v3.5" } }); CompilerParameters csParams = new System.CodeDom.Compiler.CompilerParameters(); csParams.GenerateInMemory = true; csParams.GenerateExecutable = false; csParams.ReferencedAssemblies.Add("System.dll"); csParams.CompilerOptions = "/target:library"; StringBuilder classDef = new StringBuilder(); classDef.AppendLine("using System;"); classDef.AppendLine("using System.Collections.Generic;"); classDef.AppendLine(""); classDef.AppendLine("public class DynamicallyBuiltClass"); classDef.AppendLine("{"); classDef.AppendLine(" public class Item"); classDef.AppendLine(" {"); classDef.AppendLine(" public string Name { get; set; }"); classDef.AppendLine(" public int Value { get; set; }"); classDef.AppendLine(" }"); classDef.AppendLine(" private List
values = new List
();"); classDef.AppendLine(" public List
Values { get { return values; } set { values = value; } }"); classDef.AppendLine("}"); CompilerResults res = csProvider.CompileAssemblyFromSource(csParams, new string[] { classDef.ToString() }); foreach (var line in res.Output) { Console.WriteLine(line); } Assembly asm = res.CompiledAssembly; if (asm != null) { Type t = asm.GetType("DynamicallyBuiltClass"); object o = t.InvokeMember("", BindingFlags.CreateInstance, null, null, null); Serialize(t, o); } Console.WriteLine(); } static void Serialize(Type type, object o) { var serializer = new XmlSerializer(type); try { serializer.Serialize(Console.Out, o); } catch(Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine("Exception caught while serializing " + type.ToString()); Exception e = ex; while (e != null) { Console.WriteLine(e.Message); e = e.InnerException; Console.Write("Inner: "); } Console.WriteLine("null"); Console.WriteLine(); Console.WriteLine("Stack trace:"); Console.WriteLine(ex.StackTrace); } } } which generates the following output: ------------------------------------- Serializing StaticallyBuiltClass... -------------------------------------  <StaticallyBuiltClass xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Values /> </StaticallyBuiltClass> ------------------------------------- Serializing DynamicallyBuiltClass... ------------------------------------- Exception caught while serializing DynamicallyBuiltClass There was an error generating the XML document.   • can not set the bool value of app setting

- by user262325
Hello everyone I use the codes below to read and write a bool value from my application: -(void)SaveAppSetting; { NSUserDefaults *defaults=[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; bool b=true; [defaults setBool:b forKey:@"AnyKey"]; [defaults synchronize]; } -(void)LoadAppSetting; { NSUserDefaults *defaults=[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; bool b=[defaults boolForKey: @"AnyKey"] ; } I found that "LoadAppSetting" worked well, it could get the correct value of item with key "AnyKey". The function "SaveAppSetting" looked like no function, it reported no error, but it can not change value of the item with key "AnyKey". "AnyKey" setting in Setting bundle is item Dictionary Type String PSToggleSwitchSpecifier Title String AnyKey's Title Key String AnyKey DefaultValue Boolean Checked Is there any person met the same problem? • asp.net - csharp - jquery - looking for a better and usage solution

- by LostLord
hi my dear friends i have a little problem about using jquery...(i reeally do not know jquery but i forced to use it) i am using vs 2008 - asp.net web app with c# also i am using telerik controls in my pages also i am using sqldatasources (Connecting to storedprocedures) in my pages my pages base on master and content pages and in content pages i have mutiviews ================================================================================= in one of the views(inside one of those multiviews)i had made two radcombo boxes for country and city requirement like cascading dropdowns as parent and child combo boxes. i used old way for doing that , i mean i used update panel and in the SelectedIndexChange Event of Parent RadComboBox(Country) i Wrote this code : protected void RadcomboboxCountry_SelectedIndexChanged(object o, RadComboBoxSelectedIndexChangedEventArgs e) { hfSelectedCo_ID.Value = RadcomboboxCountry.SelectedValue; RadcomboboxCity.Items.Clear(); RadcomboboxCity.Items.Add(new RadComboBoxItem(" ...", "5")); RadcomboboxCity.DataBind(); RadcomboboxCity.SelectedIndex = 0; } my child radcombo box can fill by upper code , let me tell you how : the child sqldatasource have a sp that has a parameter and i fill that parameter by this line - hfSelectedCo_ID.Value = RadcbCoNameInInsert.SelectedValue; RadcbCoNameInInsert.SelectedValue means country ID. after doing that SelectedIndexChange Event of Parent RadComboBox(Country) could not be fire therefore i forced to set the autopostback property to true. afetr doing that every thing was ok until some one told me can u control focus and keydown of your radcombo boxes (when u press enter key on the parent combobox[country] , so child combobox gets focus -- and when u press upperkey on child radcombobox [city], so parent combobox[country] gets focus) (For Users That Do Not Want To Use Mouse for Input Info And Choose items) i told him this is web app , not win form and we can not do that. i googled it and i found jquery the only way for doing that ... so i started using jquery . i wrote this code with jquery for both of them : this jquery code worked BBBBBBUUUUUUUTTTTTT autopostback=true of the Parent RadComboBox Became A Problem , Because when SelectedIndex Change Of ParentRadComboBox is fired after that Telerik Skins runs and after that i lost parent ComboBox Focus and we should use mouse but we don't want it.... for fix this problem i decided to set autopostback of perentCB to false and convert protected void RadcomboboxCountry_SelectedIndexChanged(object o, RadComboBoxSelectedIndexChangedEventArgs e) { hfSelectedCo_ID.Value = RadcomboboxCountry.SelectedValue; RadcomboboxCity.Items.Clear(); RadcomboboxCity.Items.Add(new RadComboBoxItem(" ...", "5")); RadcomboboxCity.DataBind(); RadcomboboxCity.SelectedIndex = 0; } to a public non static method without parameters and call it with jquey like this : (i used onclientchanged property of parentcombo box like onclientchanged = "MyMethodForParentCB_InJquery();" insread of selectedindexchange event) public void MyMethodForParentCB_InCodeBehind() { hfSelectedCo_ID.Value = RadcomboboxCountry.SelectedValue; RadcomboboxCity.Items.Clear(); RadcomboboxCity.Items.Add(new RadComboBoxItem(" ...", "5")); RadcomboboxCity.DataBind(); RadcomboboxCity.SelectedIndex = 0; } for doing that i read the blow manual and do that step by step : ======================================================================= http://www.ajaxprojects.com/ajax/tutorialdetails.php?itemid=732 ======================================================================= but this manual is about static methods and this is my new problem ... when i am using static method like : public static void MyMethodForParentCB_InCodeBehind() { hfSelectedCo_ID.Value = RadcomboboxCountry.SelectedValue; RadcomboboxCity.Items.Clear(); RadcomboboxCity.Items.Add(new RadComboBoxItem(" ...", "5")); RadcomboboxCity.DataBind(); RadcomboboxCity.SelectedIndex = 0; } so i recieved some errors and this method could not recognize my controls and hidden field... one of those errors like this : Error 2 An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property 'Darman.SuperAdmin.Users.hfSelectedCo_ID' C:\Javad\Copy of Darman 6\Darman\SuperAdmin\Users.aspx.cs 231 13 Darman any idea or is there any way to call non static methods with jquery (i know we can not do that but is there another way to solve my problem)???????????????

• How to Automatically re-raise Exceptions

- by Brian
If you wrap a call to HttpResponse.End within a try catch block, the ThreadAbortException would automatically be re-raised. I assume this is the case even if you wrap the try catch block in a try catch block. How can I accomplish the same thing? I do not have a real-world application for this. namespace Program { class ReJoice { public void End() //This does not automatically re-raise the exception if caught. { throw new Exception(); } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { try { ReJoice x = new ReJoice(); x.End(); } catch (Exception e) {} } } }

• What is really happening when we change encoding in a string?

- by Jim Thio
http://php.net/manual/en/function.mb-convert-encoding.php Say I do: $encoded = mb_convert_encoding ($original); That looks like simple enough. WHat I am imagining is the following $original has a pointer to the way the string is actually encoded. Something like char * kind of thing. And then there are things like what the character actually encoded. It's probably somewhere along UTF-64 kind of thing where each glyph is indeed a character. Now when we do $encoded = mb_convert_encoding ($original); several thing can happen: the original internal representation doesn't change however it is REINTERPRETED so that the code that show up differs the original string that it represent doesn't change however the ENCODING change. Which one is right?

• Flex - Problem with auto resizing datagrid

- by Marty Pitt
Hi All I'm trying to create a datagrid which will resize vertically to ensure all the renderers are displayed in full. Additionally, Renderers are of variable height Renderers can resize themselves Generally speaking, the flow of events is as follows : One of the item renderers resizes itself (normally in response to a user click etc) It dispatches a bubbling event which the parent datagrid picks up The DataGrid attempts to resize to ensure that all renderers remain visible in full. I'm currently using this code within the datagrid to calculate the height: height = measureHeightOfItems(0, dataProvider.length ) + headerHeight; This appears to get an incorrect height. I've tried a number of variations including callLater ( to ensure the resize has completed so measure can work correctly), and overriding meausre() and calling invalidateSize() / validateSize(), but neither works. Below are 3 classes which will illustrate the problem. Clicking the button in the item renderers resizes the renderer. The grid should also expand so that all of the 3 renderers are shown in their entirety. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards Marty DataGridProblem.mxml (Application file) <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" xmlns:view="view.*"> <mx:ArrayCollection id="dataProvider"> <mx:String>Item A</mx:String> <mx:String>Item B</mx:String> <mx:String>Item C</mx:String> </mx:ArrayCollection> <view:TestDataGrid id="dg" dataProvider="{ dataProvider }" width="400"> <view:columns> <mx:DataGridColumn dataField="text" /> <mx:DataGridColumn itemRenderer="view.RendererButton" /> </view:columns> </view:TestDataGrid> </mx:Application> view.TestDataGrid.as package view { import flash.events.Event; import mx.controls.DataGrid; import mx.core.ScrollPolicy; public class TestDataGrid extends DataGrid { public function TestDataGrid() { this.verticalScrollPolicy = ScrollPolicy.OFF; this.variableRowHeight = true; this.addEventListener( RendererButton.RENDERER_RESIZE , onRendererResize ); } private function onRendererResize( event : Event ) : void { resizeDatagrid(); } private function resizeDatagrid():void { height = measureHeightOfItems(0, dataProvider.length ) + headerHeight; } } } view.RendererButton.mxml <mx:HBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"> <mx:Button width="50" height="50" click="onClick()" /> <mx:Script> public static const RENDERER_RESIZE : String = "resizeRenderer"; private function onClick() : void { this.height += 20; dispatchEvent( new Event( RENDERER_RESIZE , true ) ); } </mx:Script> </mx:HBox>

• Flex/Flash 4 datagrid literally displays XML

- by Setori
Problem: Flex/Flash4 client (built with FlashBuilder4) displays the xml sent from the server exactly as is - the datagrid keeps the format of the xml. I need the datagrid to parse the input and place the data in the correct rows and columns of the datagrid. flow: click on a date in the tree and it makes a server request for batch information in xml form. Using a CallResponder I then update the datagrid's dataProvider. [code] <fx:Script>  import mx.controls.Alert; [Bindable]public var selectedTreeNode:XML; public function taskTreeChanged(event:Event):void { selectedTreeNode=Tree(event.target).selectedItem as XML; var searchHubId:String = selectedTreeNode.@hub; var searchDate:String = selectedTreeNode.@lbl; if((searchHubId == "") || (searchDate == "")){ return; } findShipmentBatches(searchDate,searchHubId); } protected function findShipmentBatches(searchDate:String, searchHubId:String):void{ findShipmentBatchesResult.token = actWs.findShipmentBatches(searchDate, searchHubId); } protected function updateBatchDataGridDP():void{ task_list_dg.dataProvider = findShipmentBatchesResult.lastResult; }  </fx:Script> <fx:Declarations> <actws:ActWs id="actWs" fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString + '\n' + event.fault.faultDetail)" showBusyCursor="true"/> <s:CallResponder id="findShipmentBatchesResult" result="updateBatchDataGridDP()"/> </fx:Declarations> <mx:AdvancedDataGrid id="task_list_dg" width="100%" height="95%" paddingLeft="0" paddingTop="0" paddingBottom="0"> <mx:columns> <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn headerText="Receiving date" dataField="rd"/> <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn headerText="Msg type" dataField="mt"/> <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn headerText="SSD" dataField="ssd"/> <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn headerText="Shipping site" dataField="sss"/> <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn headerText="File name" dataField="fn"/> <mx:AdvancedDataGridColumn headerText="Batch number" dataField="bn"/> </mx:columns> </mx:AdvancedDataGrid> [/code] I cannot upload a pic, but this is the xml: [code] 2010-04-23 16:35:51.0 PRESHIP 2010-02-15 00:00:00.0 100000009 DF-Ocean-PRESHIPSUM-Quanta-PACT-EMEA-Scheduled Ship Date 20100215.csv 10053 [/code] and the xml is pretty much displayed exactly as is in the datagrid columns... I would appreciate your assistance.

• disable event-bubbling c# wpf

- by Ruben
Hi, I'm having the following problem: When I got two labels into each other: This is a label into another label And the following code: private void Label_MouseUp(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine("Do NOT show me"); } private void Label_MouseUp_1(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { Console.WriteLine("Show me"); } When i click "Second", I want it to trigger only "Label_MouseUp_1". But in my console i get: Show me Do NOT show me Is there a way to turn off the bubbling events? (also, "First" has to be clickable, so removing the event there doesn't solve the problem) Thnx

• How to use DAOs with hibernate/jpa?

- by Ari
Assuming the DAO structure and component interaction described below, how should DAOs be used with persistence layers like hibernate and toplink? What methods should/shouldn't they contain? Would it be bad practice to move the code from the DAO directly to the service? For example, let's say that for every model we have a DAO (that may or may not implement a base interface) that looks something like the following: public class BasicDao<T> { public List<T> list() { ... } public <T> retrieve() { ... } public void save() { ... } public void delete() { ... } } Component interaction pattern is -- service DAO model

• Boiler plate code replacement - is there anything bad about this code?

- by Benjol
I've recently created these two (unrelated) methods to replace lots of boiler-plate code in my winforms application. As far as I can tell, they work ok, but I need some reassurance/advice on whether there are some problems I might be missing. (from memory) static class SafeInvoker { //Utility to avoid boiler-plate InvokeRequired code //Usage: SafeInvoker.Invoke(myCtrl, () => myCtrl.Enabled = false); public static void Invoke(Control ctrl, Action cmd) { if (ctrl.InvokeRequired) ctrl.BeginInvoke(new MethodInvoker(cmd)); else cmd(); } //Replaces OnMyEventRaised boiler-plate code //Usage: SafeInvoker.RaiseEvent(this, MyEventRaised) public static void RaiseEvent(object sender, EventHandler evnt) { var handler = evnt; if (handler != null) handler(sender, EventArgs.Empty); } } EDIT: See related question here UPDATE Following on from deadlock problems (related in this question), I have switched from Invoke to BeginInvoke (see an explanation here). Another Update Regarding the second snippet, I am increasingly inclined to use the 'empty delegate' pattern, which fixes this problem 'at source' by declaring the event directly with an empty handler, like so: event EventHandler MyEventRaised = delegate {};

• Unable to Start Activity ComponentInfo when Starting a New Activity

- by Timtim17

• ListBox item doesn't get refresh in WPF?

- by sanjeev40084
I have a listbox which has couple of items. When double clicked on each item, the user get option to edit item (text of item). Now once i update the item, my item in listbox doesn't get updated. The first window (one which has listbox) is in MainWindow.xaml file and second window is in EditTaskView.xaml(one which let's edit the items text) file. The code that displays items in lists is: Main.Windows.cs public static ObservableCollection TaskList; public void GetTask() { TaskList = new ObservableCollection<Task> { new Task("Task1"), new Task("Task2"), new Task("Task3"), new Task("Task4") }; lstBxTask.ItemsSource = TaskList; } private void lstBxTask_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { var selectedTask = (Task)lstBxTask.SelectedItem; EditTask.txtBxEditedText.Text = selectedTask.Taskname; EditTask.PreviousTaskText = selectedTask.Taskname; EditTask.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } The xaml code that displays the list: <ListBox x:Name="lstBxTask" Style="{StaticResource ListBoxItems}" MouseDoubleClick="lstBxTask_MouseDoubleClick"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel> <Rectangle Style="{StaticResource LineBetweenListBox}"/> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Taskname}" Style="{StaticResource TextInListBox}"/> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> <ToDoTask:EditTaskView x:Name="EditTask" Grid.Row="1" Grid.RowSpan="2" Grid.ColumnSpan="2" Visibility="Collapsed"/> The Save button in TaskEditView.xaml does this: public string PreviousTaskText { get; set; } private void btnSaveEditedText_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { foreach (var t in MainWindow.TaskList) { if (t.Taskname == PreviousTaskText) { t.Taskname = txtBxEditedText.Text; } } Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; } TaskList is the ObservableCollection, and i though once you update the value the UI gets refreshed. But doesn't seem to work that way. What am i missing?

• Syntax for specializing function templates

- by FredOverflow
Is there a difference between the following approaches? // approach 1 namespace std { template<> void swap<Foo>(Foo& x, Foo& y) // note the <Foo> { x.swap(y); } } // approach 2 namespace std { template<> void swap(Foo& x, Foo& y) { x.swap(y); } } I stumpled upon this when I tried to specialize swap for my own string type and noticed that swap<::string> doesn't work, but for a completely different reason :)

• Is there a way to delay an event handler (say for 1 sec) in Windows Forms

- by Essam
I need to be able to delay the event handlers for some controls (like a button) to be fired for example after 1 sec of the actual event (click event for example) .. is this possible by the .net framework ? I use a timer and call my code from the timer's tick event as below but I am not sure if this is the best approach ! void onButtonClick( ..) { timer1.Enabled = true; } void onTimerTick( ..) { timer.Enabled = false; CallMyCodeNow(); }

• Stop a stopwatch

- by James Morgan
I have the following code in a JPanel class which is added to a another class (JFrame). What I'm trying to implement is some sort of a stopwatch program. startBtn.addActionListener(new startListener()); class startListener implements ActionListener { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { Timer time = new Timer(); time.scheduleAtFixedRate(new Stopwatch(), 1000, 1000); } } This is another class which basically the task. public class Stopwatch extends TimerTask { private final double start = System.currentTimeMillis(); public void run() { double curr = System.currentTimeMillis(); System.out.println((curr - start) / 1000); } } The timer works fine and this is definitely far from complete but I'm not sure how to code the stop button which should stop the timer. Any advice on this? BTW I'm using java.util.timer

• Getting Current Native Thread

- by Ricardo Peres
The native OS threads running in the current process are exposed through the Threads property of the Process class. Please note that this is not the same as a managed thread, these are the actual native threads running on the operating system. In order to get a pointer to the current executing thread, we must use P/Invoke. Here's how we do it: [DllImport("kernel32.dll")] public static extern UInt32 GetCurrentThreadId(); UInt32 id = GetCurrentThreadId(); ProcessThread thread = Process.GetCurrentProcess().Threads.Cast().Where(t = t.Id == id).Single(); SyntaxHighlighter.config.clipboardSwf = 'http://alexgorbatchev.com/pub/sh/2.0.320/scripts/clipboard.swf'; SyntaxHighlighter.brushes.CSharp.aliases = ['c#', 'c-sharp', 'csharp']; SyntaxHighlighter.all();

• ASP.NET - working with GridView Programmatically

- by JMSA
I am continuing from this post. After much Googling, I have come up with this code to edit cells programmatically: using System; using System.Data; using System.Configuration; using System.Collections; using System.Web; using System.Web.Security; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; using System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts; using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls; using Ice_Web_Portal.BO; namespace GridView___Test { public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { GridView1.DataSource = Course.GetCourses(); GridView1.DataBind(); } protected void GridView1_RowEditing(object sender, GridViewEditEventArgs e) { GridViewRow row = GridView1.Rows[e.NewEditIndex]; GridView1.EditIndex = e.NewEditIndex; GridView1.DataSource = Course.GetCourses(); GridView1.DataBind(); } protected void GridView1_RowUpdating(object sender, GridViewUpdateEventArgs e) { TextBox txtID = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[e.RowIndex].Cells[1].Controls[0]; TextBox txtCourseCode = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[e.RowIndex].Cells[2].Controls[0]; TextBox txtCourseName = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[e.RowIndex].Cells[3].Controls[0]; TextBox txtCourseTextBookCode = (TextBox)GridView1.Rows[e.RowIndex].Cells[4].Controls[0]; Course item = new Course(); item.ID = Convert.ToInt32(txtID.Text); item.CourseCode = txtCourseCode.Text; item.CourseName = txtCourseName.Text; item.TextBookCode = txtCourseTextBookCode.Text; bool success = Course.Update(item); labMessage.Text = success.ToString(); GridView1.EditIndex = -1; GridView1.DataSource = Course.GetCourses(); GridView1.DataBind(); } } } But 2 problems are happening. (1) I need to press command buttons twice to Edit/Update. (2) Changes in the cell values are not updated in the database. I.e. edited cell values are not committing. Can anyone give me a solution?

• Force gdm login screen to the primary monitor

- by Kirill
I have two monitors attached to my video card. Primary monitor has a resolution equal to 1280x1024 and the second has 1920x1200. My gdm login screen always appears on the second monitor even if it is switched off. My question is how to force gdm to show the login screen always on the primary monitor with resolution 1280x1024? I use Nvidia GT9500 videcard in Twinview mode. I can't use Xinerama because vpdau doesn't work correclty in this mode. What I have found is that mouse pointer always appears in the center of union of the screens and center is always on the monitor with higher resolution. Login screen always shows where mouse cursor is. Now my primary monitor has a resolution equal to 1920x1080. The problem still persists, mouse cursor always appears in the right-bottom corner of the second monitor.

• ActionScript 3 class over several files - how?

- by Poni
So, how do we write a class over several files in action script 3? In C# there's the "partial" keyword. In C++ it's natural (you just "#include ..." all files). In Flex 3, in a component, you add this tag: <mx:Script source="myfile.as"/>. How do I split the following class into several files; package package_path { public class cSplitMeClass { public function cSplitMeClass() { } public function doX():void { // .... } public function doY():void { // .... } } } For example I want to have the doX() and doY() functions implemented in another ".as" file. Can I do this? And please, don't tell me something like "a good practice is to have them in one file" :)
