    Hello there, i've a PreferenceActivity which works perfectly the first time i launch it. But if i close it ( with the back button ) and then i re open it ( through a menu click in the main activity ) then i get a black screen. There is no preferences at all.. I can't figure it out why it should not working. It seems all the code is being called normally as the working one but no preferences are showing on the screen. Did someone had the same behaviour ?

  • Android: Capturing the return of an activity.

    - by Chrispix
    I have a question regarding launching new activities. It boils down to this. I have 3 tabs on a view A) contains gMap activity B) camera activity C) some random text fields. Requirement is that the application runs in Portrait mode. All 3 tabs work as expected w/ the exception of the Camera Preview Surface (B). It is rotated 90 degrees. They only way to make it correct is to set the app to landscape which throws all my tabs around, and is pretty much unworkable. My solution is this : replace my camera activity with a regular activity that is empty w/ the exception of Intent i = new Intent(this,CameraActivity.class); startActivity(i); This launches my CameraActivity. And that works fine. I had to do a linear layout and include 3 images that look like real tabs, so I can try and mimic the operation of the tabs while rotating the screen to landscape and keep the visuals as portrait. The user can click one of the images(buttons) to display the next tab. This is my issue. It should exit my 'camera activity' returning to the 'blank activity' in a tab, where it should be interpreted to click the desiered tab from my image. The main thing is, when it returns, it returns to a blank (black) page under a tab (because it is 'empty'). How can I capture the return event back to the page that called the activity, and then see what action they performed? I can set an onclicklistener where I can respond to the fake tabs (images) being clicked to exit out of the camera activity. On exit, the tab should update so that is where you return. any Suggestions? Thanks,

  • Getting error using ContactManager Sample

    - by OceanBlue
    I have created some contacts data in the emulator. When I run the ContactManager sample app downloaded from the Android site, I get an error. Specifically, when trying to add a Contact through the app, I get a NullPointerException. I think it is because the "Target Accounts" spinner on the scree is not getting populated, and hence I cannot select a Target Account before adding a contact. Has anyone run across this problem or has any clues on how to fix this?

  • Android repeating alarm not working

    - by erdomester
    This works fine: Intent intent = new Intent(HelloAndroid2.this, AlarmReceiver.class); PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(HelloAndroid2.this, 0, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT); AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager) getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE); alarmManager.set(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, System.currentTimeMillis() + (12 * 1000), pendingIntent); This doesn't work. I hear the alarm only time. alarmManager.setRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, System.currentTimeMillis() + (12 * 1000), 3 * 1000, pendingIntent); I have also tried this, no luck: Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance(); calendar.setTimeInMillis(System.currentTimeMillis()); calendar.add(Calendar.SECOND, 5); alarmManager.setRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, calendar.getTimeInMillis(), 7000, pendingIntent); What is the problem?

  • Android Simple way for User Color Selections

    - by miannelle
    How can you change application colors on the fly? I am currently using the following to change the background: LinearLayout mScreen = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.main); mScreen.setBackgroundColor( mycolor ); I tried to use Style's to change the text using: @color/white The problem is that Spinners/Buttons and Spinner-Popup-Lists all change to white text as well, making them unreadable. I have over 20 Classes in my app that all need to be able to change color combination's.

  • Android return to the original position of the view after MotionEvent

    - by Kurty
    My application currently changes to another random int (View) when I let go of it (ACTION_UP) but the view stays in the same spot where I dropped it. I want it to return to the original location (the middle of the screen) when I drop it so I can repeat the process. // OnTouch and MotionEvent OnTouchListener dragt = new OnTouchListener() { public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent me) { FrameLayout.LayoutParams par = (FrameLayout.LayoutParams) v.getLayoutParams(); switch (v.getId()) { case R.id.randomView: } switch(me.getAction()) { case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE: par.gravity = 0; par.setMargins((int)me.getRawX() - (v.getWidth())/2, (int)me.getRawY() - (v.getHeight())/2, 0, 0); v.setLayoutParams(par); break; case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP: // tallies score. score++; textScore.setText(String.valueOf(score)); // this generates the new view but the location is still the same color.setImageResource(mImageIds[rgenerator.nextInt(mImageIds.length)]); break; } return true; } };

  • which view/widget can support zooming in android?

    - by Sephy
    Hi everybody, I think my question is fairly clear, I would like to know if every kind of view can support zoom. I know that some have built in zoom controls like the MapView and the WebView, but how about a LinearLayout with some TextViews and ImageViews? I will edit this post to have a list of the answers.

  • How to write an intersects for Shapes in android

    - by Rafael T
    I have an written an Object called Shape which has a Point representing the topLeftCorner and a Dimension with represents its width and height. To get the topRightCorner I can simply add the width to the topLeftPoint.x. I use to rotate them on a certain degree around their center. The problem after the rotation is, that my intersects(Shape) method fails, because it does not honor the rotation of the Shapes. The rotation will be the same for each Shape. My current implementation looks like this inside my Shape Object: public boolean intersects(Shape s){ // functions returning a Point of shape s return intersects(s.topLeft()) || intersects(s.topRight()) || intersects(s.bottomLeft()) || intersects(s.bottomRight()) || intersects(s.leftCenter()) || intersects(s.rightCenter()) || intersects(s.center()); } public boolean intersects(Point p){ return p.x >= leftX() && p.x <= rightX() && p.y >= topY() && p.y <= bottomY(); } Basically I need functions like rotatedLeftX() or rotatedTopRight() to work properly. Also for that calculation I think it doesn't matter when the topLeft point before a rotation of ie 90 will turn into topRight... I already read this and this Question here, but do not understand it fully.

  • Android: Playing an audio clip onClick

    - by fordays
    How do I set up an audiofile to play when a user touches an image. Where should I store the audio file and what code should I use to actually play the file? I don't want to bring up the MediaPlayer interface or anything like that. I was thinking of doing it like this: foo = (ImageView)this.findViewById(R.id.foo); foo.setOnClickListener(this); public void onClick(View v) { if (foo.isTouched()) { playAudioFile(); } } Thanks

  • Processing more than one button click at Android Widget

    - by dive
    Hi, all. I saw this topic and implement IntentService as describes, but what if I want more that one button? How can I distinguish button from each other? I'm trying to setFlags, but cannot read it at onHandleIntent() method: public static class UpdateService extends IntentService { ... @Override public void onHandleIntent(Intent intent) { ComponentName me = new ComponentName(this, ExampleProvider.class); AppWidgetManager manager = AppWidgetManager.getInstance(this); manager.updateAppWidget(me, buildUpdate(this)); } private RemoteViews buildUpdate(Context context) { RemoteViews updateViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.main_layout); Intent i = new Intent(this, ExampleProvider.class); PendingIntent pi = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 0, i, 0); updateViews.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.button_refresh, pi); i = new Intent(this, ExampleProvider.class); pi = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 0, i, 0); updateViews.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.button_about, pi); return updateViews; } } At this little piece of code I have two PendingIntent linked with setOnClickPendingIntent, can I distinguish this intent for different actions and processing? Thanks for help

  • Android Google maps co-ordinates

    - by Scoobler
    I have an app which stores co-ordinates. I am using Google maps to show the location to allow full use of the maps app. I am using the intent call and placing the co-ordinates in the q=xxxxxxxxx,xxxxxxxxx part. This works, however when Google maps shows the location it often finds a point on the road, sometimes a little distance from the actual co-ordinates. Is there a way to get maps to show the actual point?

  • Android - Looping Activity to Repeat MediaPlayer

    - by Austin Anderson
    I'm trying to create a soundboard for longer audio files and can't figure out how to stop an audio file and start it again without closing the activity. Let's say each audio file is one minute long. If I play the first audio file for 20 seconds and start the next audio file, the first stops playing and the second starts playing. However, if I click the first audio file again, the second stops playing and the first does not. I need help. This is driving me insane. bAudio1 = (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.bAudio1); bAudio2 = (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.bAudio2); mpAudio1 = MediaPlayer.create(this, R.raw.audio1); mpAudio2 = MediaPlayer.create(this, R.raw.audio2); bAudio1.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { if(mpAudio1.isPlaying()) { mpAudio1.stop(); } else { if(mpAudio2.isPlaying()) { mpAudio2.stop(); } mpAudio1.start(); } } }); bAudio2.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { if(mpAudio2.isPlaying()) { mpAudio2.stop(); } else { if(mpAudio1.isPlaying()) { mpAudio1.stop(); } mpAudio2.start(); } } }); Thanks.
