  • Is there a way to detect non-movement (touch events) ?

    Is there a way to detect a finger's non-movement by using a combination of UITouch events? The event methods touchesEnded and touchesCancelled are only fired when the event is cancelled or the finger lifted. I would like to know when a touch has stopped moving, even while it is still touching the screen.

  • queued view updates not happening when performSelector afterDelay:0 used

    Hi all, I have an app that performs some calculations based on data arriving on a socket or local user interaction. I want to show an 'activity spinner' whilst the calculation happens. spinner = [[UIActivityIndiactorView alloc] initWithActivityIndicatorStyle:UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhiteLarge]; [spinner setCenter:self.view.center]; [self.view addSubview:spinner]; [spinner startAnimating]; [self performSelector:@selector(doCalcs) withObject:nil afterDelay:0]; This works well, except in the case where the code is run as a result of a message arriving over the network. I'm using http://code.google.com/p/cocoaasyncsocket/ to handle sockets and the code is running in the onSocket:didReadData:withTag: method. 'doCalcs' takes a few seconds. The spinner doesn't appear whilst it's running. If I change afterDelay:0 to afterDelay:1 then the spinner does appear the whole time doCalcs is running, but with the downside that it takes an extra second. So it seems the code is all correct, but for whatever reason the spinner isn't getting a chance to get on screen before doCalcs runs. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

  • How do I use a contact's photo in a table view cell?

    I've got an app that has a table view that displays contact information in each row. I'd like to use the contact's stored image (if there is one available) as the image on the left-hand side of the cell. I've found some sketchy sample code in Apple's documentation, but the address book references some kind of weird data type (CFDataRef) that doesn't appear to correspond to the data types referenced in the table view programming guide (mainly UIImage). This seems like a pretty basic task, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    I have a ListActivity and I want to implement context menu for each of the list elements. I know that the common way to do this is to show the context menu on long click/tap. I want to know if there is a way to show the context menu for each element on a key press(preferably the menu key). To rephrase my question, how can I trigger the context menu and not the options menu by pressing the menu key(or any other key).

    I modified the alias sample code from: [request addRequestHeader: @"Content-Type" value: @"application/json"]; [request appendPostData:[[NSString stringWithFormat: @"{\"alias\": \"%@\"}", self.deviceAlias] dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; to: [request addRequestHeader: @"Content-Type" value: @"application/json"]; [request appendPostData:[[NSString stringWithFormat: @"{\"tags\": \"%@\"}", offsetStr] dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; offsetStr is a string containing a Timezone offset (which can be any number between -12 and 12). For some reason, Urban Airship is making each character of the string into its own tag. I've tried to substitute the - for a string neg with the same results. What's wrong?

    i am retrieving different characters from a string by using thsi function and adding 5 to them to display the corresponding character for eg.   • Android - Fill Layout with Buttons

    Just a quick question about how you would go about implementing this. I want there to be buttons at the bottom of the screen, but if the screen size is larger, more buttons would be added. For example, at a small screen size, there might be 4-5 buttons at the bottom, but if you ran it on a tablet or something similar, there would be maybe 20 buttons. Any suggestions? It can't scroll either, it just has to dynamically fill the layout with buttons. Thanks.

    I have a string of comma separated values in this way (0.2,0.3,0.4,1.0). I used componentsSeperatedByString to store the values in an NSArray. Now I need to store them in NSDictionary as (1st value from NSArray), key1, (2nd Value of NsArray), key2,..nil]; My program is in this way NSArray *split1; NSDictionary *enemy1; float value1; for(id line in lines) { string1 = line; split1 = [string1 componentsSeparatedByString:@","]; numberOfValues = [split1 count]; for(id value in split1) { enemy1 = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:@"[[split1 objectAtIndex:0]flaotValue]", @"A1", nil]; } } value1 = [enemy1 objectForKey:@"A1"]; Here lines is an NSArray consisting of CSV strings of number 10.     hi, when i try to convert form utf-8 string to NSString like so: NSString *s = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:"\U0627\U0644\U0641\U0631\U0646"]; NSLog(@"%@", s); i get the compile error: incomplete universal character name note that it sometime just works fine: NSString *UAE = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:"\U0627\U0644\U0641\U0631\U0646"]; NSLog(@"%@", UAE); and the output: ???????? so why is that happening? please help.

In this public method within the class +(bool) isConnectable:(directions) theDirection{ bool isTheDirectionConnectable= NO; switch (theDirection) { case north: isTheDirectionConnectable= self.connectivity_N; break; I'm not sure why is this so as I'm trying to grab the value of the property. According to the apple developer documentation "The default names for the getter and setter methods associated with a property are propertyName and setPropertyName: respectively—for example, given a property “foo”, the accessors would be foo and setFoo:" That has given me a clue that I've done something wrong here, I'm fairly new to objective C so would appreciate anyone who spends the time to explain this to me.     Hello guys! I would like to hide the navigationbar with this code: [self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:navbarAndToolbarHidden animated:YES]; Do you see? It is animated, but it doesn't animated when I check...   • WebView not responding when called from a method

    I have an app with tabbar and webview. I'm trying to make the app come back to default url each time user taps the bar. Right now I'm intercepting taps and launching a method, however it's not affecting my webview. The same syntax for calling webview from awakeFromNib works, so I don't have a clue what's up. I suspect it's something to do with how I call the method, but I don't know what.     I have a table view and if we touch a cell a video plays. I need to show the preview image of the video in the UITableViewCell. I have kept some dummy image in the cell at image place and remaining space ion cell is with some labels and buttons. I need the image preview of the video with play symbol on it. How can I make this ? Should I use any photoshop type of things or any programable things. I do not know photoshop. Thank You.

  • Does a Category applied to NSString also apply to NSCFString via the "toll-free bridge"?

    We're integrating a library into an iPhone app which appears to use the google toolbox for iPhone internally. The google toolbox adds a method gtm_stringBySanitizingAndEscapingForXML to NSString. The problem is, whenever we attempt to make a call to this library we get [NSCFString gtm_stringBySanitizingAndEscapingForXML]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x272478 So it appears the library is calling that method on a NSCFString, to which the category does not apply. So... is it the case that the category will not apply across the toll-free bridge to CoreFoundation classes? If that's the case then we at least know why it's blowing up. Figuring out how to fix it is a different matter.

    I have a NSDate *date1 in class1 implementation file(I initialized it as Global variable). I have NSDate *date2 in class 2 implementation file (initialized it as Global variable). I need to calculate the NSTimeInterval between the two dates in class 2. But I could not do it. I could not access date1 in this class. It is giving error as (date2 undeclared).   • Writing the code iby dividing it into more files.

    My problem is, I need a background image, a sprite(with animation) on left edge, another sprite(with animation) at other edge, a number count animation 1-2-3 at middle. I got all these when I wrote all in same file.(like [self addChild:label], [self addChild:sprite].., But in this it needs touch enables for both sprites separately, and touchDisabled to the remaining screen. So thought of writing in different files. But now it is not working. I kept one sprite, background image, numbercount in one file and another spritr in other file. Either I am getting the second sprite or the (sprite+background+numberCount) is displayed. This is my problem. plz give me solution. Thank You
