• Is is possible to enable persistent cookies and disable session cookies?

  Hello, We have an application that uses a persistent cookie to store the language of the user and a session cookie for authentication. Now our site starts with a number of tests such as: javascript, cookies, flash plugin, sound and popup and only if all tests succeed you can go to the logon page. After logging in you can see the application. Now one of our clients has a serieus problem, she passes all the tests but upon logging in she goes to the default page and get's redirected tot the logon page again. (form authentication). Now I was wondering how this is possible. It's allmost like a persistent cookie is enabled (otherweise she's not able to skip the language page) and a session cookie isn't.   Hi, Some friends and I wanted to develop a game. Any language will do. I've been programming in C for years, but never wrote a game before. One of us knows SDL a little bit. It would also be a nice excuse to learn Python+pygame. We wish our game to be 'standalone'. By standalone, I mean most users (at least Linux, Mac and Windows) will not have to manually download and install anything else apart from a package. It is ok if the installation automatically handles missing dependencies. If the packages contain binaries, we wish to be able to generate them using cross-compilation from Linux. How should we package and structure the project, and what language is best suited?

  As a follow up to this question What are the advantages of built-in immutability of F# over C#?--am I correct in assuming that the F# compiler can make certain optimizations knowing that it's dealing with largely immutable code? I mean even if a developer writes "Functional C#" the compiler wouldn't know all of the immutability that the developer had tried to code in so that it couldn't make the same optimizations, right? In general would the compiler of a functional language be able to make optimizations that would not be possible with an imperative language--even one written with as much immutability as possible?

  Hi everyone, I use visual studio for day to day programming (read putting food in my mouth) but for personal programming (read c/c++ hacking) I use Emacs. Right now I am doing a programming exercise involving the X11 API. I am continually referring to the programming API manual to find the signature of function calls. What would be really nice would be if there was an emacs alternative to the visual studio intellisense. I know there is autocompletion for the language specifics. Is there such an extension available to Emacs? Or if not, is there way of creating one, maybe using the language specifics mechanism already used for auto completion?

  Today's the 25th birthday of Tetris. I believe writing Tetris clone is one of the best ways to familiarize oneself to a new language or a platform. It's not completely trivial and it lends itself well to learning language specific constructs like iterators and closures. I've been hearing about Scala, and finally decided to read some docs and write a Tetris clone. So, this is my first Scala code. I did try to use functional constructs, but am sure there are lots of things I can improve to do it more Scala way. Please give me suggestions using comment. Also other submissions of Tetris clone in Scala are welcome too. I'm aware that the actual question itself is somewhat subjective, but I think this is of some value since others can use this as example (or anti-example) code. Edit: Let me rephrase the question. • Default Database Collations got messed up

  I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with XAMPP ( Lampp "MYSQL 5.1.45 PHPMYADMIN 3.3.1 PHP 5.3.2 ) What my problem is, is that I set up my testing env to debug my scripts locally and when I did so there arose a problem. This problem is that I used firefox's addon SQLinject ME to test for weakness' and upon doing so it caused mysql to change the default local collations; character sets dir /opt/lampp/share/mysql/charsets/ collation connection latin1_general_ci (Global value) latin1_swedish_ci collation database latin1_swedish_ci collation server latin1_swedish_ci I have searched for quite sometime in regards to a solution to this problem and have come up with searching for the db.opt file which stores this information without success. Upon not finding a solution I removed lampp with the "sudo rm -fR /opt" command and reinstall and the problem still persists. I have tried to change the collations manually and still come up with the database displaying latin1_swedish_ci as the default language. Why is this a problem?? Why is it a problem with mysql? Because the application I am testing and debugging locally is built on the CodeIgnitor with Smarty framework and since this combination of framework is built to detect the LOCALES, Rather what the database defaults are I keep getting errors saying no language file for swedish...... Of course I could get the swedish language file to work around this problem but I do not feel the need to make this work around a perminant solution as with time when I move on to projects I will run into simular problems every time that A; When importing database files, backups etc it will default to import such databases as the locale swedish. B; As time passes on I might completly forget of this error and will be back to square one. I have found this code in searches for a fix,which seems to alter the tables to a desired Collaion; $value) { mysql_query("ALTER TABLE $value COLLATE latin1_general_ci"); }} echo "The collation of your database has been successfully changed!"; ? Which is handy to switch collations in One Schema at a time however this is not a fix when a framework doesnt care that the said database is in one langugae. It tests for the Default of the entire server. Someone with any knowledge of a purge or fix to this I would greatly appricate the help. One more final note is that when I was testing I only figured to back up the applications DataBase and not the entire Schema of the install. No matter if I uninstall or reinstall the database still seems to carry these problems.

• Why in java enum is declared as Enum<E extends Enum<E>>

  if language designers were to use simply Enum<E extends Enum> how would that affect the language? The only difference now would be that someone coud write A extends Enum<B> but since it is not allowed in java to extend enums that would be still illegal. I was also thinking about someone supplying jvm a bytecode that defines smth as extending an enum - but generics can't affect that as they all are erased. So what is the whole point of such declaration? Thank you!

If a finally block is entered in Java because of an exception in the corresponding try block and that finally block throws another exception, the first exception is silently swallowed. This question crossed my mind: Could a programming language handle multiple exceptions being thrown at the same time? Would that be useful? Have you ever missed that ability? • Why is C# winforms application not working without VS.NET installed?

  Hi folks, I have a winforms c# app that has an embedded webbrowser control inside it generated through VS.NET 2008. To note: The rest of the c# app works fine, and you can browser the web through the control fine as well, just that the events like the above 'onclick' can't be handled properly. • Caching query results in django

  I'm trying to find a way to cache the results of a query that won't change with frequency. For example, categories of products from an e-commerce (cellphones, TV, etc). I'm thinking of using the template fragment caching, but in this fragment, I will iterate over a list of these categories. This list is avaliable in any part of the site, so it's in my base.html file. Do I have always to send the list of categories when rendering the templates? Or is there a more dynamic way to do this, making the list always available in the template?

  I have a multiple language website, that uses subdirectories from the root ('/en' for english and '/es' for spanish) for each specific language. Each redirect appends a get variable to the URL, and hides it using a 'P' flag for proxy. My current htaccess file for the spanish subfolder is: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=10 RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html$ $1.php RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1?l=es [P,R=301,L] The problem is that I also want to append the 'www' to the domain if it was left off. The proxy redirect does not show the 'www.' Is it possible to place a rewriterule before that final one that will append the www, and then still process the final one?

I've opened a new Silverlight Business Application and tried to understand how authentication/authorization works in this template, as well as scoured the web to find examples to how to hook my webservice to the login box already created in the template, but I am completely at a loss as how to do this! Can anyone offer any advice?

Here's what i did: I Made my own TreeView that implements ISelectionAdapter (not sure it's perfect) Edit AutoCompleteBox template and change the selector to my treeview Try Bind my ViewModel to it Unfortunately this is not working. i checked my new TreeView with the same binding to the same object and it works prefectly when it's outside of a AutoCompleteBox template. Any idea? any special way to implement ISelectionAdapter for treeview? did i missed something? couldn't find any example for it on the web... Thanks.

The lazy approach — just encoding all inputs — causes problems when you want to send those inputs to a database, or to a block of JavaScript code. So something a little smarter is needed. The tedious approach — putting the proper encoding function around each piece of data on the template — works, but it's easy for developers to forget to do it. Is there a good approach that makes it easy for developers, and ensures that the right encoding is done? I was listening to one of the SO podcasts, and Joel tossed out an idea about using typed data to enforce a difference between HTML-encoded strings and non-encoded strings. Maybe that could be a starting point. I'm looking more for a strategy than for an implementation in a particular language (although I'd be happy to hear about implementations that already exist and work).
