• Android: Autostart app and load preferences

- by BBoom
Hi, I have a problem with initializing my app properly after the autostart. I've managed to get an autostart to work, after a reboot the app is shown as started but the timer's are not. My guess is that the "onCreate" function of MyApp is not called when I call the context.startService(). The timers are set in the doActivity() function of MyApp. I would greatly appreciate any tips on what I could be doing wrong or links to good tutorials. :) The manifest: <activity android:name=".MyApp" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
</intent-filter> </activity> <receiver android:name="MyApp_Receiver"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" />
</intent-filter> </receiver>[/syntax] MyApp_Receiver is a BoradcastReciever with the following two functions public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { // Do Autostart if intent is "BOOT_COMPLETED" if ((intent.getAction() != null) && (intent.getAction().equals("android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"))) { // Start the service context.startService(new Intent(context, MyApp.class)); } // Else do activity else MAIN_ACTIVITY.doActivity(); } public static void setMainActivity(MyApp activity) { MAIN_ACTIVITY = activity; } MyApp extends PreferenceActivity and has an onCreate() and a doActivity(), the doActivity() reads out the preferences and sets a timer depending on them. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); // Show preferences addPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences);; // Register Preference Click Listeners getPreferenceScreen().getSharedPreferences().registerOnSharedPreferenceChangeListener(this); // Prepare for one-shot alarms if (mIntent == null) { mIntent = new Intent(MyApp.this, MyApp_Receiver.class); mSender = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(MyApp.this, 0, mIntent, 0); MyApp_Receiver.setMainActivity(this); } // Refresh and set all timers on start doActivity(); }

• flash cs4 file reference. Event.COMPLETE not called on a MAC,

- by jobbie jones
Hi, I am working with a fileReference, however I'm having issues running on Safari on a MAC... EDIT The below example also doesnt work on Safari on a MAC... http://www.permadi.com/blog/2010/06/flash-as3-using-filereference-to-load-files-example-for-flash-cs4-and-above/ # The workflow on a PC runs as such: 1) Create file reference 2) attach addEventListener's for Event.SELECT and Event.COMPLETE 3) call the browse() method On a PC, Event.SELECT is fired when a file has been selected. Event.COMPLETE is fired when the file data is available to flash. If I select an 500meg file, it takes a few seconds before Event.COMPLETE is fired. If I attempt to access the file data properties (such as reading the data stream) before Event.COMPLETE is fired, I receive null reference errors... So far so good. However, on a MAC (speficially Safari, not tested other browsers), the Event.COMPLETE is not fired. I have checked the Adobe docs, which say Event.COMPLETE is fired when the upload is completed. So why does it get fired on windows when the fileReference has parsed the file, but the upload method has not yet been called... Can anyone help? Here's snippets of the code I am working on: public function browseFile(target:Object):void { var imagesFilter:FileFilter = new FileFilter("Allowed files", "*.jpg;*.bmp;*.flv;"); fileReference.browse([imagesFilter]); fileReference.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, fileSelect); fileReference.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, fileSelectComplete); } private function fileSelect(event:Event):void { // update label - IMPORTANT for large files as there's a delay while flash parses file, before control is handed back to this script... setStatusLabel("...loading file"); var fileReference:FileReference = event.target as FileReference; fileReference.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, fileSelectComplete); // load the file into the fileReference object fileReference.load(); } // Called when upload file has been processed by flash (a few secs for large files, or fileRef.data is null...) private function fileSelectComplete(event:Event):void { var fileReference:FileReference=event.target as FileReference; trace("ready to do things - but not fired on Safari on a MAC "); }

• Creating dynamic text for a literal control

- by strakastroukas
On the ListView1_ItemDataBound of a list view event, i create the literal.text like so... This is the answer! <a href="javascript:void(0);"onMouseover="ShowPop('term1')" onMouseout="HidePop('term1')">Show me the answer The problem is that the text is not rendered as it should. On mousing over the literal control the url is http://localhost:1391/"javascript:void(0);"onMouseover="ShowPop('term1');" So what is going on here? What am i missing?

- by skiria
I have 3 classes- video { nameVideo, id, description, user... } topic {nameTopic, topicID, NSMutableArray videos; } category {nameCategory, categoryID, NSMUtableArray topics} And then in my app delegate I defined- NSMutableArray categories; I parse an XML file with this code. I try the arrays hierachy, and i think that i don't add any object on the arrays. How can I check it? What's wrong? • Help translating Reflector deconstruction into compilable code

- by code poet
So I am Reflector-ing some framework 2.0 code and end up with the following deconstruction fixed (void* voidRef3 = ((void*) &_someMember)) { ... } This won't compile due to 'The right hand side of a fixed statement assignment may not be a cast expression' I understand that Reflector can only approximate and generally I can see a clear path but this is a bit outside my experience. Question: what is Reflector trying to describe to me? Update: Am also seeing the following fixed (IntPtr* ptrRef3 = ((IntPtr*) &this._someMember)) Update: So, as Mitch says, it is not a bitwise operator, but an addressOf operator. Question is now: fixed (IntPtr* ptrRef3 = &_someMember) fails with an 'Cannot implicitly convert type 'xxx*' to 'System.IntPtr*'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?)' compilation error. So I seemed to be damned if I do and damned if I dont. Any ideas?

• Flex Air HTMLLoader blank pop up window when flash content is loaded

- by user128938
I have a flex Air program that loads external content with the HTMLLoader. Now for some reason whenever I load a page that has any flash content a blank system window pops up outside of my program. It's completely blank, all white with min, max and close buttons. If I close it any flash content I loaded stops working. For the life of my I can't figure out what's happening and there's no messages in the console and no title for the window. Does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help you can give. Here's the code I'm using: private var webPage:HTMLLoader; private function registerEvents():void { this.addEventListener(gameLoadEvent.GAME_LOAD, gameLoad); //webPage = new HTMLLoader(); } //function called back from Game Command to load correct game private function gameLoad(event:Event):void { var gameEvent:gameLoadEvent = event as gameLoadEvent; loadgame(gameEvent.url, gameEvent.variables); } private function loadgame(url:String, variableString:String):void { DesktopModelLocator.getInstance().scaleX = 1; DesktopModelLocator.getInstance().scaleY = 1; //var url:String = "http://pro-us.sbt-corp.com/aspx/member/LaunchGame.aspx"; var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url); //var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables("gameNum=17&as=as1&t=demo&package=a&btnQuit=0"); if(variableString != null && variableString != ""){ var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables(variableString); variables.exampleSessionId = new Date().getTime(); variables.exampleUserLabel = "guest"; request.data = variables; } webPage = HTMLLoader.createRootWindow(true, null, true, null); webPage.height = systemManager.stage.nativeWindow.height - 66; webPage.width = systemManager.stage.nativeWindow.width; webPage.load(request); webPage.navigateInSystemBrowser = false; flexBrowser.addChild(webPage); } </mx:Script> <mx:HTML id="flexBrowser" width="1366" height="658" backgroundAlpha="0.45" creationComplete="registerEvents();" x="0" y="0"> </mx:HTML>

• XCode, error: '_object' undeclared. Need some help solving this problem

- by user309030
I've got this code in my viewController.m file - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; GameLogic *_game = [[GameLogic alloc] init]; [_game initGame]; ....... } GameLogic is another class which I created. in the same viewController.m file, I have got another function - (void)test { if([_game returnElecFence]) { NSLog(@"YES"); } else { NSLog(@"NO"); } } Problem is, whenever the test function is called, I get an error saying '_game' undeclared. I tried putting the GameLogic init code in the .h file and on top of the @implementation to make it global but every method I tried resulted in a worse error. TIA to anyone who can suggest some ideas to clear this error up

• C++ interface inheritance problem

- by james t
Hey, i'm trying to create a c++ stomp client, my client constructor is : Client(std::string &server, short port, std::string &login, std::string &pass, Listener &listener); it gets a listener object which when Listener is the following interface : class Listener { virtual void message(StmpMessage message) =0; }; now i attempt to instantiate a client in a test class : class test : public virtual Listener { public: void message(StmpMessage message) { message.prettyPrint(); } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { Client client("127.0.0.1", 61613, *this); return 0; } }; i'm sending this to the client because this is a listener object, i get the following error : /Users/mzruya/Documents/STOMPCPP/main.cpp:18: error: no matching function for call to 'Client::Client(const char [10], int, test&)' /Users/mzruya/Documents/STOMPCPP/Client.h:43: note: candidates are: Client::Client(std::string&, short int, std::string&, std::string&, Listener&) /Users/mzruya/Documents/STOMPCPP/Client.h:37: note: Client::Client(const Client&)

• Mocking methods that call other methods Still hit database.Can I avoid it?

- by devnet247
Hi, It has been decided to write some unit tests using moq etc..It's lots of legacy code c# (this is beyond my control so cannot answer the whys of this) Now how do you cope with a scenario when you dont want to hit the database but you indirectly still hit the database? This is something I put together it's not the real code but gives you an idea. How would you deal with this sort of scenario? Basically calling a method on a mocked interface still makes a dal call as inside that method there are other methods not part of that interface?Hope it's clear [TestFixture] public class Can_Test_this_legacy_code { [Test] public void Should_be_able_to_mock_login() { var mock = new Mock<ILoginDal>(); User user; var userName = "Jo"; var password = "password"; mock.Setup(x => x.login(It.IsAny<string>(), It.IsAny<string>(),out user)); var bizLogin = new BizLogin(mock.Object); bizLogin.Login(userName, password, out user); } } public class BizLogin { private readonly ILoginDal _login; public BizLogin(ILoginDal login) { _login = login; } public void Login(string userName, string password, out User user) { //Even if I dont want to this will call the DAL!!!!! var bizPermission = new BizPermission(); var permissionList = bizPermission.GetPermissions(userName); //Method I am actually testing _login.login(userName,password,out user); } } public class BizPermission { public List<Permission>GetPermissions(string userName) { var dal=new PermissionDal(); var permissionlist= dal.GetPermissions(userName); return permissionlist; } } public class PermissionDal { public List<Permission> GetPermissions(string userName) { //I SHOULD NOT BE GETTING HERE!!!!!! return new List<Permission>(); } } public interface ILoginDal { void login(string userName, string password,out User user); } public interface IOtherStuffDal { List<Permission> GetPermissions(); } public class Permission { public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } Any suggestions? Am I missing the obvious? Is this Untestable code? Very very grateful for any suggestions.

• Singular method name for single object argument, plural for a list?

- by nasufara
I'm having a problem with naming a method for a database application. In my Database instance, I have a method that can remove an Agreement object from the database. However, I want to be able to remove multiple Agreements at once, to be able to use transactions. The problem is that I also have an overload to remove a single Agreement object. Essentially, my structure is like this: public class Database { // ... public void RemoveAgreement(Agreement a) { // ... } public void RemoveAgreement(IEnumerable<Agreement> agreements) { // ... } } But this can be confusing, as the overload with the list of Agreements has a singular name, despite being inherently plural. My question is, how should I structure this? Should I have two overloads with the name RemoveAgreement(), or RemoveAgreements()? Or should I use two separate methods, instead of overloads? Thanks.

• Delegate won't update page

- by mat690
I am trying to change the active index of a multiview by using a delegate and it doesn't work as i expect. this is my code protected void ucWaitPage_FinishedWaiting(PerformAfterWaitDelegate performAfterWait) { performAfterWait.Invoke(); this.SetIndex(); } private void SetIndex() { this.mvwTest.ActiveViewIndex = 0; } The performAfterWait Delegate points to the SetIndex() method. When the performAfterWait delegate gets invoked SetIndex() gets called but when SetIndex() returns this.mvwTest.ActiveViewIndex reverts to being equal to 1. However when i call the SetIndex() method directly it sets this.mvwTest.ActiveViewIndex = 0 and the change persists when the method returns.

• Objective-c class initializer executes multiple times

- by apisip
Unless I misunderstood it, this LINK from Apple's documentation clearly states that the class initializer, "+ (void)initialize)", only executes once per class. Here is the excerpt: Special Considerations initialize it is invoked only once per class. If you want to perform independent initialization for the class and for categories of the class, you should implement load methods. However, I'm getting a weird behavior on my project and the initializer is being executed twice. So I have to check if _classContext is null. I only got one class that has this method. What are the possible reasons why this is happening? I'm using XCode 4.5.2 and OS X 10.8.2. I got multiple iOS simulators, iPhone 5.1 and 6.0. + (void) initialize { num++; NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"Times: %i", num]); if(_classContext == nil) _classContext = [[myClass alloc] init]; }

• Recursive Binary Search Tree Insert

- by Nick Sinklier
So this is my first java program, but I've done c++ for a few years. I wrote what I think should work, but in fact it does not. So I had a stipulation of having to write a method for this call: tree.insertNode(value); where value is an int. I wanted to write it recursively, for obvious reasons, so I had to do a work around: public void insertNode(int key) { Node temp = new Node(key); if(root == null) root = temp; else insertNode(temp); } public void insertNode(Node temp) { if(root == null) root = temp; else if(temp.getKey() <= root.getKey()) insertNode(root.getLeft()); else insertNode(root.getRight()); } Thanks for any advice.

• Get 1 array from 2 arrays (using RestKit 0.20)

- by Reez
I'm using RestKit and was wondering how to combine two array's into one array. I already have the data being pulled in separately from API1 and API2, but I don't know how to combine them into 1 tableView. • Java - is this an idiom or pattern, behavior classes with no state

- by Berlin Brown
I am trying to incorporate more functional programming idioms into my java development. One pattern that I like the most and avoids side effects is building classes that have behavior but they don't necessarily have any state. The behavior is locked into the methods but they only act on the parameters passed in. The code below is code I am trying to avoid: public class BadObject { private Map<String, String> data = new HashMap<String, String>(); public BadObject() { data.put("data", "data"); } /** * Act on the data class. But this is bad because we can't * rely on the integrity of the object's state. */ public void execute() { data.get("data").toString(); } } The code below is nothing special but I am acting on the parameters and state is contained within that class. We still may run into issues with this class but that is an issue with the method and the state of the data, we can address issues in the routine as opposed to not trusting the entire object. Is this some form of idiom? Is this similar to any pattern that you use? public class SemiStatefulOOP { /** * Private class implies that I can access the members of the
Data
class * within the
SemiStatefulOOP
class and I can also access * the getData method from some other class. * * @see Test1 * */ class Data { protected int counter = 0; public int getData() { return counter; } public String toString() { return Integer.toString(counter); } } /** * Act on the data class. */ public void execute(final Data data) { data.counter++; } /** * Act on the data class. */ public void updateStateWithCallToService(final Data data) { data.counter++; } /** * Similar to CLOS (Common Lisp Object System) make instance. */ public Data makeInstance() { return new Data(); } } // End of Class // Issues with the code above: I wanted to declare the Data class private, but then I can't really reference it outside of the class: I can't override the SemiStateful class and access the private members. Usage: final SemiStatefulOOP someObject = new SemiStatefulOOP(); final SemiStatefulOOP.Data data = someObject.makeInstance(); someObject.execute(data); someObject.updateStateWithCallToService(data);

• Best approach to create a security environment in Java

- by Tom Brito
I need to create a desktop application that will run third party code, and I need to avoid the third party code from export by any way (web, clipboard, file io) informations from the application. Somethig like: public class MyClass { private String protectedData; public void doThirdPartyTask() { String unprotedtedData = unprotect(protectedData); ThirdPartyClass.doTask(unprotectedData); } private String unprotect(String data) { // ... } } class ThirdPartyClass { public static void doTask(String unprotectedData) { // Do task using unprotected data. // Malicious code may try to externalize the data. } } I'm reading about SecurityManager and AccessControler, but I'm still not sure what's the best approach to handle this. What should I read about to do this implementation?

• GWT: Select a TreeItem with right click

- by Ivan
I'm capturing a right click event to show a context menu. What I haven't been able to figure out, is how to make the right click actually select the TreeItem, prior to showing of context menu. All help is appreciated. private Tree tree = new Tree() { @Override public void onBrowserEvent(Event event) { if (event.getTypeInt() == Event.ONCONTEXTMENU) { DOM.eventPreventDefault(event); showContextMenu(event); } super.onBrowserEvent(event); } @Override protected void setElement(Element elem) { super.setElement(elem); sinkEvents(Event.ONCONTEXTMENU); } };

• How to let the matcher to match the second invocation on mock?

- by Alex Luya
I have an interface like this public interface EventBus{ public void fireEvent(GwtEvent<?> event); } and test code(testng method) looks like this: @Test public void testFireEvent(){ EventBus mock=mock(EventBus.class); //when both Event1 and Event2 are subclasses of GwtEvent<?> mock.fireEvent(new Event1()); mock.fireEvent(new Event2()); //then verify(mock).fireEvent(argThat(new Event2Matcher())); } Event2Matcher looks like this: private class Event2Matcher extends ArgumentMatcher<Event2> { @Override public boolean matches(Object arg) { return ((Event2) arg).getSth==sth; } } But get an error indicating that: Event1 can't be cast to Event2 And obviously,the matcher matched the first invoking mock.fireEvent(new Event1()); So,the statement within matcher return ((Event2) arg).getSth==sth; Will throw out this exception.So the question is how to let verify(mock).fireEvent(argThat(new Event2Matcher())); to match the second invoking?

• What to name 2 methods with same signatures

- by coffeeaddict
Initially I had a method in our DL that would take in the object it's updating like so: internal void UpdateCash(Cash Cash) { using (OurCustomDbConnection conn = CreateConnection("UpdateCash")) { conn.CommandText = @"update Cash set captureID = @captureID, ac_code = @acCode, captureDate = @captureDate, errmsg = @errorMessage, isDebit = @isDebit, SourceInfoID = @sourceInfoID, PayPalTransactionInfoID = @payPalTransactionInfoID, CreditCardTransactionInfoID = @CreditCardTransactionInfoID where id = @cashID"; conn.AddParam("@captureID", cash.CaptureID); conn.AddParam("@acCode", cash.ActionCode); conn.AddParam("@captureDate", cash.CaptureDate); conn.AddParam("@errorMessage", cash.ErrorMessage); conn.AddParam("@isDebit", cyberCash.IsDebit); conn.AddParam("@PayPalTransactionInfoID", cash.PayPalTransactionInfoID); conn.AddParam("@CreditCardTransactionInfoID", cash.CreditCardTransactionInfoID); conn.AddParam("@sourceInfoID", cash.SourceInfoID); conn.AddParam("@cashID", cash.Id); conn.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } My boss felt that creating an object every time just to update one or two fields is overkill. But I had a couple places in code using this. He recommended using just UpdateCash and sending in the ID for CAsh and field I want to update. Well the problem is I have 2 places in code using my original method. And those 2 places are updating 2 completely different fields in the Cash table. Before I was just able to get the existing Cash record and shove it into a Cash object, then update the properties I wanted to be updated in the DB, then send back the cash object to my method above. I need some advice on what to do here. I have 2 methods and they have the same signature. I'm not quite sure what to rename these because both are updating 2 completely different fields in the Cash table: internal void UpdateCash(int cashID, int paypalCaptureID) { using (OurCustomDbConnection conn = CreateConnection("UpdateCash")) { conn.CommandText = @"update Cash set CaptureID = @paypalCaptureID where id = @cashID"; conn.AddParam("@captureID", paypalCaptureID); conn.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } internal void UpdateCash(int cashID, int PayPalTransactionInfoID) { using (OurCustomDbConnection conn = CreateConnection("UpdateCash")) { conn.CommandText = @"update Cash set PaymentSourceID = @PayPalTransactionInfoID where id = @cashID"; conn.AddParam("@PayPalTransactionInfoID", PayPalTransactionInfoID); conn.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } So I thought hmm, maybe change the names to these so that they are now unique and somewhat explain what field its updating: UpdateCashOrderID UpdateCashTransactionInfoID ok but that's not really very good names. And I can't go too generic, for example: UpdateCashTransaction(int cashID, paypalTransactionID) What if we have different types of transactionIDs that the cash record holds besides just the paypalTransactionInfoID? such as the creditCardInfoID? Then what? Transaction doesn't tell me what kind. And furthermore what if you're updating 2 fields so you have 2 params next to the cashID param: UpdateCashTransaction(int cashID, paypalTransactionID, someOtherFieldIWantToUpdate) see my frustration? what's the best way to handle this is my boss doesn't like my first route?

• Value isnt being saved in the strings

- by Raptrex
I'm trying to make a class where I put a key and value into the put method which puts the key in the k string array and value into the v string array, however it is not being saved in the array when I do get or display. For example: put(dan,30) get(dan) returns null display returns null null 10 times. Anyone know whats wrong? public class Memory { final int INITIAL_CAPACITY = 10; String[] k = new String[INITIAL_CAPACITY]; String[] v = new String[INITIAL_CAPACITY]; int count = 0; public Memory() { count = 0; } public int size() { return count; } public void put(String key, String value) { int a = 0; boolean found = false; for (int i = 0; i < k.length; i++) { //System.out.println("key is " + key.equals(k[i])); if (key.equalsIgnoreCase(k[i])) { v[i] = value; found = true; } if (found) break; a++; } //System.out.println(a == k.length); if (a == k.length); { k[count] = key; v[count] = value; //System.out.println(k[count] + " " + v[count]); count++; //System.out.println(count); } } public String get(String key) { String output = "a"; for(int i = 0; i < k.length; i++) { if(!key.equalsIgnoreCase(k[i])) { output = null; } else { output = v[i]; return output; } } return output; } public void clear() { for (int i = 0; i < k.length; i++) { k[i] = null; v[i] = null; } count = 0; } public void display() { for (int i = 0; i < k.length; i++) { System.out.println(k[i] + " " + v[i]); } } }

• Custom annotations to configure tests

- by ace
First of al let me start off by saying I think custom annotations can be used for this but i'm not totally sure. I would like to have a set of annotations that I can decorate some test classes with. The annotations would allow me to configure the test for different environments. Example: public class Atest extends BaseTest{ private String env; @Login(environment=env) public void testLogin(){ //do something } @SignUp(environment=env) public void testSignUp(){ //do something } } The idea here would be that the login annotation would then be used to lookup the username and password to be used in the testLogin method for testing a login process for a particular environment. So my question(s) is this possible to do with annotations? If so I have not been able to find a decent howto online to do something like this. Everything out there seems to be your basic here's how to do your custom annotations and a basic processor but I haven't found anything for a situation like this. Ideas?
