• Connecting with a BSNL Broadband Internet

  I am not able to connect my broadband connection with ubuntu and it doesnt work. The connection works fine when I use Windows7 but when i use ubuntu I am not able to access the internet. I followed various steps mentioned in various sites and still could not find a solution. I have installed ubuntu 8.04 in my system. The interface eth0 is not at all detected and when i use the menu system-administrator-network I am not getting an option for wired connection. Just the Wireless connection and Point to Point connection tabs are available.. It's really urgent.. I'll be very happy if u guys can propose to me a working solution to deal with this problem..

  Good day! I recently installed 12.04. I am having a hard time connecting to the Internet using my Sun Broadband Wireless. I installed the 64-bit version. I am from the Philippines. When I plug in my USB stick, it does not show up on the Network Manager/ no new connection can be detected. I try to edit it using Edit Connections but still to no avail. I have tried doing these steps from kenji08, kartonista, and from review-ninja (for this one, I can't seem to get pass the first step.) I hope those information can help.

• Why are the prices for broadband bandwidth at data centers much higher than consumer/small business offerings?

  The prices for broadband bandwidth at data centers are sometimes as much as 10x higher than for a typical small business/consumer connection, at least where I live. Now, I understand those are two differend kind of products, but what exactly are the differences? Is it mainly because the bandwidth you get at a data center is guaranteed (CIR), while a consumer offer lists maximal bandwidth (EIR/MIR)? Or are there other factors as well? (Note: my previous, much more specific question on the same general topic was closed as not constructive. I tried to extract the core issue and present it in a way that can be answered objectively. If you feel that this question is still bad and should be closed, please care to comment and explain why.)

  In 11.10 I find that I can connect to the internet via broadband connection successfully. The problem is that I cannot have the data card attached to the machine while the machine boots up. If I leave the data card in the machine during startup, the data card is not picked up and I then cannot connect to the internet. I must first boot up my machine, login, attach the data card into the usb port, wait so 30 seconds. The broadband connection name will then appear in the network dropdown at the top of the screen. An internet connect is now possible via broadband. Please let me know what must be done to fix this. Thanks Armien

• Sharing my broadband connection over a router

  I have a broadband connection which I can connect to my laptop's ethernet port. If I want to use the same connection on another machine I would have to do it via a router (I dont want to use ICS since it requires both machines to be ON). I have a router but its uplink is a 4p4c pin rather that an 8p8c(RJ45) so my broadband cable wont fit into it. The router I have is ZTE ZXDSL 531B. And the broadband connection I am talking about has an antenna on the rooftop from which an ethernet cable (CAT 5) runs to my PC's LAN port. Is there some way of utilising the LAN ports of the router to achieve what I mentioned above. Please Help

Now the DSL modem has a built-in NAT and DHCP server, hence it allocates IP addresses to any client devices (laptops, PC, mobile) that connect to it. However, the DSL modem also gets a public IP address X that is provisioned by the operator. My question is Whether this IP address X provisioned by operator is an IP address that is directly on the public Internet? Is it likely (practical scenario) that my broadband operator will put in one more NAT+DHCP server and provide IP addresses to all the modems within his broadband network. In this case, the IP addresses allotted to the modem devices will not be directly on the public Internet. Thanks in advance.

  I've upgraded from 10.10 to 12.04. The situation: I plug the dongle in and enter the password. If I click 'Enable Mobile Broadband' and I get a notice on the top right saying 'GSM network. You are now registered on the home network'. At this stage I have not actually connected and when I click my broadband connection i see that 'Enable Mobile Boardband' is unticked AGAIN and I cannot connect to my broadbnad connection when I click it.

  A local cafe has an 802.11g wireless router attached to either an 8- or 12Mbs broadband connection. Although many customers still have -g devices, an increasing number are showing up with 802.11n devices (e.g. Mac laptops, iPads). The cafe owner is content with his router's area coverage, but he would like for his customers to be able to take advantage of the higher -n download speeds. He could simply replace the -g router with a -n router, but reportedly -n routers slow down considerably when servicing both -g and -n connections. Another option would be to buy the -n router, run an Ethernet cable between the two routers, and (of course) hook up the broadband connection to one of the two routers. Still another option would be to attach an ordinary, wired switch to the broadband connection and then attach both routers to the switch. Aside from the cost issue, what are the tradeoffs of those approaches? Which would you recommend, and why? Is there a better option than the ones I mentioned? Thank you in advance for your advice.

  My details: Thinkpad T410 GOBI 2000 WWAN Ubuntu 12.10 with Gnome3 In Ubnutu 12.04, Debian Squeeze and Debian Wheezy my GOBI2000 works like a charm but in Ubuntu 12.10 the connection wizard doesn't show up. I configured the card the normal way: added thnkpad ppa install gobi-loader-tp copied firmware files to /lib/firmware/gobi/ (the same files work under debian) The card is correctly recognised and my SIM is detected too. the only problem is when I try to setup a new connection the wizard doesn't start. simply nothing happens. Any idea?

  I have Windows 8.1 on my HP laptop and a Huawei broadband modem which was working fine but since some of the updates of Windows 8.1 it is now not working. I have following issue: Under Device Manager Network Adaptor it shows the Hauwei mobile E303H but when I click on it and go to the Driver tab I can see that no device driver is installed. When I click to update the driver and select the generic mobile broadband adaptor it fails and shows "access denied". How do I go about replacing the driver for this?

  I'm brand new to ubuntu and linux. We access internet from a usb stick issued by a local telephone company. When I plug the stick into the computer, I see the device listed under internet connections as a mobile broadband device but it is grayed out and inaccessible. I tried to create a new mobile broadband connection but my country (Gabon) is not listed and we have no payment plans per se (we pay from a pre-paid card system).. • Huawei e303c data-card not working for Ubuntu 11.04?

  Cheers to you. I got a problem in making a Mobile-BroadBand connection in Ubuntu 11.04, using 'Huawei e303c' usb data-card. I'm using Tata Docomo 3G sim-card (India, circle: Maharastra). My observations: 1.) I installed the device's driver 'Mobile-Partner For Linux'(which came up with the device). But it is not detecting my device. 2.) In Network Manager, Adding a Mobile-BroadBand connection is not able to detect the device (with or without the device's driver installed). 3.)I tried softwares like usb_modeswitch, gnomeppp, wvdial, sakis3G and followed their guidelines. These too didn't work. 4.) Without the driver, the system is able to identify the device (Mobile-Partner icon comes-up, that leads to driver setup files). But after installing the driver, nothing comes-up there. 5.) In all the above cases, when 'lsusb' cmd is fired, the prompt shows the connected data card (as 'DEVICE_ID:VENDOR_ID Huawei Technologies Ltd.,'). This is my problem. Give a solution to get my device connected. -Umash

  If a wireless modem router has the option Allow multicast from Broadband Network, what does this mean exactly? What risks are there to leaving it enabled and why would you have it enabled? I understand that a broadcast is sending a packet to every device on the network and a multicast is send a packet to a specified set of addresses. A multicast packet can cross routers whereas a broadcast cannot although I don't quite understand how these "set of addresses are specified"

  Hi, I recently downloaded JDownloader for downloading from RS. But clicking the Reconnect icon in toolbar gives the error, "Reconnect failed. Please try manual reconnect". :( In the reconnection settings, there is an entry for Router's IP. and the rest(User,pwd, Reconnection script) are blank. I having BSNL dataone broadband connection in Bangalore. I connect to internet just by turning on the modem and no user name and password is required. • Make own dial-up ISP using broadband connection [on hold]

  So, I see no reason why this wouldn't be possible. I have a Linux server (a Raspberry Pi to be exact) connected via Ethernet to a broadband ISP. I want to be able to dial a number, have it go through the normal telephone network, onto the Internet via a VoIP provider (I know you can call a Skype user from a landline), to my Raspberry Pi, and then have the Pi connect me to the Internet. I've found guides on making your own ISP, but they all involve a dedicated phone line on the server end. Is there a way to do this with no modem on the server end? I live in an area with a lot of people still on dialup, and if I pull this off I could make some extra money. Thanks!

I am not able to connect internet through it. while connecting it via network manager it says "You are registered with home network" and again "Modem network disconnected" . i think it is detected as a modem but not connecting properly. Any help please? I'm hitting this rock with my head more than a month... when I tried installing the driver that came with the device it finally says "Installing NDIS driver failed".
