• Apache failover for JBoss

  I am running a JBoss web app (AS 6 Final) hosted on linux (Debian). I would like to implement a failover solution so that when JBoss is down, a static web page is served in its place. My current solution is to run Apache as a reverse proxy (described here), which allows me to serve .php files from apache and forward all other requests to JBoss. But I am not sure how make Apache step in when JBoss is down? Note. both apache and jboss will be running on the same box, this is (Application failover rather then server failover) to cover times when JBoss is re-deploying etc. So I am looking for the simplest solution really Many thanks

• Deploy to JBoss 7 using Hudson Deploy plugin

  I have 2 machines where one of them contains the Hudson CI and other JBoss 7 AS. In Hudson, I have installed "Deploy Plugin", created new job and filled required JBoss manager user connection fields. When I run the job, the project successfully built however the deployment process to remote JBoss AS is not being triggered. No errors or messages about the deployment in log. What should I do? EDIT The deployment is triggered (at least expected) as "Post-build Action" with parameters: [x] Deploy war/ear to a container WAR/EAR files : **/*.war Container : JBoss 7.x Manager user name : test Manager password : * * * * JBoss URL : http://192.168.1.2 JBoss JMX Management port : 9990 It is not a separate job.

• VMWare tools not installing with an error

  VMWare tools not installing on Ubuntu 12.04. I'm using Chef to manage the installation, but the Apt commands fail if run manually. I'm using the VMWare tool Debian repo. I've googled and googled but there is no answer to this question with my particular circumstances on the interwebs. VMWare's documentation of this error is minimal.

  I am a very newbie for AIX and system monitoring. Actually our application currently run production on jboss 5.1 in AIX 5.3. Please check below configuration & system settings. AIX system configuration OS Level 5.3.9.0 (oslevel -g) Physical Memory size 24GB (svmon -G) Page space 4GB (lsps -s) processors 3 cores, Processor Type: PowerPC_POWER6, Processor Clock Speed: 4704 MHz (prtconf | grep Processor) Java version JRE 1.6.0 IBM AIX build pap6460sr10fp1-20120321_01 (SR10 FP1) (java -fullversion) JBoss configuration JBoss 5.1/JBoss ESB 4.11 Hornetq messaging with consumer flow control java opts : -d64 -Xms2g -Xmx4g -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m Sometime we observe very strange behavior in the JBoss that freeze without any error logs. Also server log stop without any further trace. We also not able to get thread dump (kill -3) and its not generate at that point. (kill -3 xxxxx works in normal circumstances) Only option available for us was restart the jboss server and its seem all messages that were in queues during the freeze time process after restarting. We try tweak some of setting in JBoss hornetq, we though issue was there. Hornetq Stuck By Default. But we haven't any luck and also unable to isolate the issue in any point. We looking at tool like nmon for monitoring this but no clue is that good enough to do so. Please provide some point to investigate this issue. Thanks

• debugging JBoss 100% CPU usage

  We are using JBoss to run two of our WARs. One is our web app, the other is our web service. The web app accesses a database on another machine and makes requests to the web service. The web service makes JMS requests to other machines, aggregates the data, and returns it. At our biggest client, about once a month the JBoss Java process takes 100% of all CPUs. The machine running JBoss has 8 CPUs. Our web app is still accessible during this time, however pages take about 3 minutes to load. Restarting JBoss restores everything to normal. The database machine and all the other machines are fine, only the machine running JBoss is affected. Memory usage is normal. Network utilization is normal. There are no suspect error messages in the JBoss logs. I have set up a test environment as close as possible to the client's production environment and I've done load testing with as much as 2x the number of concurrent users. I have not gotten my test environment to replicate the problem. Where do we go from here? How can we narrow down the problem? Currently the only plan we have is to wait until the problem occurs in production on its own, then do some debugging to determine the cause. So far people have just restarted JBoss when the problem occurred to minimize down time. Next time it happens they will get a developer to take a look. The question is, next time it happens, what can be done to determine the cause? We could setup a separate JBoss instance on the same box and install the web app separately from the web service. This way when the problem next occurs we will know which WAR has the problem (assuming it is our code). This doesn't narrow it down much though. Should I enable JMX remote? This way the next time the problem occurs I can connect with VisualVM and see which threads are taking the CPU and what the hell they are doing. However, is there a significant down side to enabling JMX remote in a production environment? Is there another way to see what threads are eating the CPU and to get a stacktrace to see what they are doing? Any other ideas? Thanks!

  I've looked at log4jdbc (which does not support datasources), p6spy which seems to be what I am looking for but it has not been updated since 2003 which makes me nervous and lists only JBoss 3.x (we use JBoss 5), and JAMon which seems heavyweight for what I am trying to accomplish (a simple log of all SQL statements running through a JBoss application server). I was hoping that JBoss itself would have a switch to log all the sql (as Websphere does) but I cannot find any documentation for it so that functionality might not exist.

error at build time, and a day of google searching has turned up other instances of this error caused by different triggers, and solutions for those propblems didn't work for me. I also found a single report on the Oracle forums that seemed to be a carbon copy of this issue, but there were no replies. The application is written in Weblogic Workshop 10, runs on Weblogic Server 10.3, and uses Beehive / NetUI. Not sure if that would make a difference or not though. The build scripts were automatically generated by Weblogic Workshop, with some tweaks and fixes made to other aspects of the files by myself to fix other compatability issues. I am using Java 1.6.0_23 from Sun, and Ant 1.8.1 Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  I'm on Ubuntu 10.10. I keep having problems with Sun Java crashing on me. I mostly have it crashing on my Jboss server, but I've had it crash MANY MANY times running ANT tasks or the IntelliJ IDE. My machine is running 1.6.0_22. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know how to keep it from happening? Also: I have tried reinstalling it and I can't use OpenJDK.

Can someone (or multiple someones) answer Does a newer version of JBoss fix this vulnerability? Are there links describing, in more detail, manual modification of JBoss configuration files to resolve the issue? Are there others options to remediate this vulnerability? Why don't I find the other answer complete? I'm not at all familiar with JBoss, so this answer seems a bit too simple. The web-console.war contains commented-out templates for basic security in its WEB-INF/web.xml as well as commented-out setup for a security domain in WEB-INF/jboss-web.xml. Just uncomment those basic security blocks and restart? Is there anything else I need to include? This seems generic. Do I need to include anything about my environment, such as absolute paths, etc.? Am I making this too complicated?

• Linux Tuning for High Traffic JBoss Server with LDAP Binds

  I'm configuring a high traffic Linux server (RedHat) and running into a limit I haven't been able to track down. I need to be able to handle sustained 300 requests per second throughput using Nginx and JBoss. The point of this server is to run checks on a user's account when that user signs in. Each request goes through Nginx to JBoss (specifically Torquebox with JBoss A7 with a Sinatra app) and then makes an LDAP request to bind that user and retrieve several attributes. It is during the bind that these errors occur. I'm able to reproduce this going directly to JBoss, so that rules out Nginx at least. I get a variety of error messages, though oddly JBoss stopped writing to the log file recently. It used to report errors about creating native threads. Now I just see "java.net.SocketException: Connection reset" and "org.apache.http.conn.HttpHostConnectException: Connection to http://my.awesome.server:8080 refused" as responses in jmeter. To the best of my knowledge, I have plenty of available file handles, processes, sockets, and ports, yet the issue persists. Unfortunately, I have very little experience tuning servers. I've found a couple useful documents - Ipsysctl tutorial 1.0.4 and Linux Tuning - but those documents are a bit over my head (and just entering the the configuration described in Linux Tuning doesn't fix my issue. Since there are other JBoss servers, I had to change some port configurations so that there would be no conflicts when starting the server. • How to debug JBoss out of memory problem?

  Hello, I am trying to debug a JBoss out of memory problem. When JBoss starts up and runs for a while, it seems to use memory as intended by the startup configuration. However, it seems that when some unknown user action is taken (or the log file grows to a certain size) using the sole web application JBoss is serving up, memory increases dramatically and JBoss freezes. When JBoss freezes, it is difficult to kill the process or do anything because of low memory. When the process is finally killed via a -9 argument and the server is restarted, the log file is very small and only contains outputs from the startup of the newly started process and not any information on why the memory increased so much. This is why it is so hard to debug: server.log does not have information from the killed process. The log is set to grow to 2 GB and the log file for the new process is only about 300 Kb though it grows properly during normal memory circumstances.   I'm trying to have an SSL Connection to an Apache server on port 443 which I want to use to proxy connections to a JBoss server on a different port. The SSL certificates sit on the Jboss server not on the Apache server. Is it possible to redirect HTTPS traffic from Apache to the Jboss Server and have the JBoss server do the SSL handshake? The Apache server must be able to redirect HTTPS traffic for two different URLS. One for a secure site. The other for access to web services. By the way I'm using it mutual authentication, if that makes any difference. What does the Apache config file need to contain? or are there any good example of this out there? Thanks

  The properties service (configured in properties-service.xml) in JBoss application server lets you specify external .properties files that are loaded and can then be accessed as system properties from the deployed applications. (See here http://community.jboss.org/wiki/PropertiesService for more info...) Is it also possible to load config files in the .xml format instead of .properties? I know it is possible for certain given configs like for example the mail-service.xml and the jboss-log4j.xml... But they are both loaded directly by JBoss, and not via the properties service.

• Jboss unreachable/ slow behind apache with ajp

  I have an linux server running with a JBoss Instance with apache2. Apache2 will use AJP connection to reverse proxy to JBoss. Telling the max amount of connections apache allows are far greater then jboss, causing the apache connection to time out. But I know the app isn't used by thousands of simultaneous connections at the time not even hundreds of connections so I don't believe this could be a cause. Does anybody have an idea? • Can't deploy an ejb bean on jboss

  I am try to deploy a jar to an jboss server. It works on my environment. But when I deployed the same jar on another server, i kept getting an error saying that the persistence unit is already registered. There is no other bean using the same name and the same persistence unit name. I tried to restart the server and remove the tmp, work, data directory but still get the same error. here is my error: ObjectName: jboss.j2ee:service=EJB3,module=wess_jpa.jar State: FAILED Reason: java.lang.RuntimeException: javax.management.InstanceAlreadyExistsException: persistence.units:unitName=dses_wess already registered.
