    I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong with this one. I'm trying to run the command alias localip='ip -4 -o addr show eth0 | egrep -o '([[:digit:]]{1,3}\.){3}[[:digit:]]{1,3}' | head -n 1' If I run the command ip -4 -o addr show eth0 | egrep -o '([[:digit:]]{1,3}\.){3}[[:digit:]]{1,3}' | head -n 1 I get the result I expect, however, when trying to create an alias with the command, I get -bash: syntax error near unexpected token `(' Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

    Is there a way to have a sudoers entry that allows executing of only a particular command, without any extra arguments? I can't seem to find a resource that describes how command matching works with sudoers. Say I want to grant sudo for /path/to/executable arg. Does an entry like the following: user ALL=(ALL) /path/to/executable arg strictly allow sudo access to a command exactly matching that? That is, it doesn't grant user sudo privileges for /path/to/executable arg arg2?

Manually, I would: run screen enter command CTRL+A CTRL+C enter command CTRL+A CTRL+D How can I do this automatically in a script? A simple example would help me a lot. Thank you for replies.

    Background Information I have a web app that allows end users to connect to ssh-enabled devices and manipulate them. Right now, i only support one version of firmware. The logic is something like this: user clicks on a button to run some command on device. web application looks up the class name containing the correct ssh interface for the device, using the device's model name. (because the number of hardware models is so small, i have a list that's hardcoded in my web app) web app creates a new ssh object using the class loaded in step 2. ssh command is run and session closed. command results displayed on web page. This all works fine. Now the end user wants me to be able to support multiple versions of firmware. But the catch is, they don't want to have to document the firmware version anywhere becuase the amount of overhead this will create in maintaining the system database. In other words, I can't look up the firmware version based on the device. The good news is that it sounds like at most, I'll have to support two different versions of firmware per device. One option is to name the the classes like this: deviceX.1.php deviceX.2.php deviceY.1.php deviceY.2.php where "X" and "Y" represent the model names, and 1 and 2 represent the firmware versions. When a user runs a command, I will first try it with one of the class files, if it fails, i can try with the second. I think always try the newer version of firmware first... so let's say in the above example, I would load deviceX.2.php before deviceX.1.php. This will work, but it's not very efficient. But I can't think of another way around this. Any suggestions?

    I have been doing something like this for a while and I have never seen any errors. But, unfortunately, I have never been able to explain why this works. The first line creates a variable which points to a function. The second line just adds func2 to func1 separated by a dot and defines a function. If I add a var in front of func1.func2 then I see a compilation error. func1.func2 = function(){}; Error SyntaxError: missing ; before statement var func1.func2 = function(){}; What type was func1 on first line 1 and what did it become on line 2. var func1 = function(){}; func1.func2 = function(){}; Thanks Venkat

  • Reading graph inputs for a programming puzzle and then solving it

    I just took a programming competition question and I absolutely bombed it. I had trouble right at the beginning itself from reading the input set. The question was basically a variant of this puzzle http://codercharts.com/puzzle/evacuation-plan but also had an hour component in the first line(say 3 hours after start of evacuation). It reads like this This puzzle is a tribute to all the people who suffered from the earthquake in Japan. The goal of this puzzle is, given a network of road and locations, to determine the maximum number of people that can be evacuated. The people must be evacuated from evacuation points to rescue points. The list of road and the number of people they can carry per hour is provided. Input Specifications Your program must accept one and only one command line argument: the input file. The input file is formatted as follows: the first line contains 4 integers n r s t n is the number of locations (each location is given by a number from 0 to n-1) r is the number of roads s is the number of locations to be evacuated from (evacuation points) t is the number of locations where people must be evacuated to (rescue points) the second line contains s integers giving the locations of the evacuation points the third line contains t integers giving the locations of the rescue points the r following lines contain to the road definitions. Each road is defined by 3 integers l1 l2 width where l1 and l2 are the locations connected by the road (roads are one-way) and width is the number of people per hour that can fit on the road Now look at the sample input set 5 5 1 2 3 0 3 4 0 1 10 0 2 5 1 2 4 1 3 5 2 4 10 The 3 in the first line is the additional component and is defined as the number of hours since the resuce has started which is 3 in this case. Now my solution was to use Dijisktras algorithm to find the shortest path between each of the rescue and evac nodes. Now my problem started with how to read the input set. I read the first line in python and stored the values in variables. But then I did not know how to store the values of the distance between the nodes and what DS to use and how to input it to say a standard implementation of dijikstras algorithm. So my question is two fold 1.) How do I take the input of such problems? - I have faced this problem in quite a few competitions recently and I hope I can get a simple code snippet or an explanation in java or python to read the data input set in such a way that I can input it as a graph to graph algorithms like dijikstra and floyd/warshall. Also a solution to the above problem would also help. 2.) How to solve this puzzle? My algorithm was: Find shortest path between evac points (in the above example it is 14 from 0 to 3) Multiply it by number of hours to get maximal number of saves Also the answer given for the variant for the input set was 24 which I dont understand. Can someone explain that also. UPDATE: I get how the answer is 14 in the given problem link - it seems to be just the shortest path between node 0 and 3. But with the 3 hour component how is the answer 24 UPDATE I get how it is 24 - its a complete graph traversal at every hour and this is how I solve it Hour 1 Node 0 to Node 1 - 10 people Node 0 to Node 2- 5 people TotalRescueCount=0 Node 1=10 Node 2= 5 Hour 2 Node 1 to Node 3 = 5(Rescued) Node 2 to Node 4 = 5(Rescued) Node 0 to Node 1 = 10 Node 0 to Node 2 = 5 Node 1 to Node 2 = 4 TotalRescueCount = 10 Node 1 = 10 Node 2= 5+4 = 9 Hour 3 Node 1 to Node 3 = 5(Rescued) Node 2 to Node 4 = 5+4 = 9(Rescued) TotalRescueCount = 9+5+10 = 24 It hard enough for this case , for multiple evac and rescue points how in the world would I write a pgm for this ?

  • Secondment promotion promises

    I'm a Java developer at a large FTSE 30 company. My line manager approached me and asked if I'd like to be the teams lead developer. I was keen to accept. Initially he said I'd be acting-up for 3 months, then changed his tune and said I would be doing a 6 month secondment. During this time, he has got himself promoted and I have a new line manager. I have been very successful during this secondment and reviews have been overwhelmingly positive: both from my former line manager and current line manager. However, six months on, no lead role has been created in the organization and a new director has re-organised the structure of the team: two senior roles (senior Android and senior iOS) are going to be created. I feel a bit put-out that my secondment has amounted to nothing. I could have just done nothing and then applied for the senior role 6 months later (which I feel aren't as marketable as Lead developer). During my secondment I have basically become TA, senior developer, line manager and general go-to guy for all things (across Android and iOS). What do you think I should do, and has my company abused it's position? I feel they have offered a secondment to a role that they never really planned to create. During this time I have received no financial benefit for doing a more senior role.

    Sometimes you're coding and you find yourself forgetting your context. For example, look at this situation: The cursor is on line 52. Imagine you're coding there and you're puzzling on some problem for some time. Wouldn't it be handy to know, without scrolling up (and then back down again to where you were working), what the method signature looks like? And does the method begin two lines above the visible code or 10 lines? That information can now, in NetBeans iDE 7.3 (and already in the 7.3 Beta) very easily be ascertained, by putting the cursor on the closing brace of the code block: As you can see, a new vertical line is shown parallel to the line numbers, connecting the end of the method with its start, as well as, at the top of the editor, the complete method signature, together with the number of the line on which it's found. Very handy. Same support is found for other file types, such as in JavaScript files.

  • PING through batch file (looping problem)

    I created a .BAT file in Windows 7 that has the following lines: PING XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX -t (XXX replaces the actual IP number). However, when I double click on this batch file, I can see the PING command repeatedly being executed in a loop. I even tried to rename the .BAT to .CMD but the result is the same. I want to avoid writing PING command through the Command Prompt, which is why I created the batch file. I don't know why the PING command is being continuously called when the same statement is put in a batch file.

I created a simple Facade encapsulating the Facebook REST API as well as added 'rough' MVC approach for screen navigation. I have tested on JDE 4.5 using 8320 simulator. This is still work in progress and all work is GPLed. It works great for reading stuff. NB Don't forget to get Facebook App Key and set it in TestBB class.   • Django TemplateSyntaxError only on live server (templates exist)

    I'm getting a strange error that only occurs on the live server. My Django templates directory is set up like so base.html two-column-base.html portfolio index.html extranet base.html index.html The portfolio pages work correctly locally on multiple machines. They inherit from either the root base.html or two-column-base.html. However, now that I've posted them to the live box (local machines are Windows, live is Linux), I get a TemplateSyntaxError: "Caught TemplateDoesNotExist while rendering: base.html" when I try to load any portfolio pages. It seems to be a case where the extends tag won't work in that root directory (???). Even if I do a direct_to_template on two-column-base.html (which extends base.html), I get that error. The extranet pages all work perfectly, but those templates all live inside the /extranet folder and inherit from /extranet/base.html. Possible issues I've checked: file permissions on the server are fine the template directory is correct on the live box (I'm using os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__)) to make things work across machines) files exist and the /templates directories exactly match my local copy removing the {% extends %} block from the top of any broken template causes the templates to render without a problem manually starting a shell session and calling get_template on any of the files works, but trying to render it blows up with the same exception on any of the extended templates. Doing the same with base.html, it renders perfectly (base.html also renders via direct_to_template) Django 1.2, Python 2.6 on Webfaction. Apologies in advance because this is my 3rd or 4th "I'm doing something stupid" question in a row. The only x-factor I can think of is this is my first time using Mercurial instead ofsvn. Not sure how I could have messed things up via that. EDIT: One possible source of problems: local machine is Python 2.5, live is 2.6. Here's a traceback of me trying to render 'two-column-base.html', which extends 'base.html'.   • Maven/Spring/Java: ClassNotFoundException - but I know class is there...

    I have 2 maven projects set up like this: -com.wuntee.rsaAuthenticationManager (jar) -com.wuntee.taac (pom) --taac-backend-gui (jar) --taac-web (war) And 'com.wuntee.rsaAuthenticationManager' is a dep in 'taac-backend-gui'. When running a test case in taac-backend-gui, everything executes fine, but when trying to start the taac-web, I get the following ClassNotFoundException - the library that contains the class 'weblogic.security.SSL.TrustManager' is also in my local maven repository, and set as a dependency of com.wuntee.rsaAuthenticationManager. Does anyone know why I would be getting this error? I have also attempted to directly add the library containing TrustManager to the taac-web project, and still get the same Exception. Any ideas?   • Delphi7 - How can i copy a file that is being written to

    I have an application that logs information to a daily text file every second on a master PC. A Slave PC on the network using the same application would like to copy this text file to its local drive. I can see there is going to be file access issues. These files should be no larger than 30-40MB each. the network will be 100MB ethernet. I can see there is potential for the copying process to take longer than 1 second meaning the logging PC will need to open the file for writing while it is being read. What is the best method for the file writing(logging) and file copying procedures? I know there is the standard Windows CopyFile() procedure, however this has given me file access problems. There is also TFileStream using the fmShareDenyNone flag, but this also very occasionally gives me an access problem too (like 1 per week). What is this the best way of accomplishing this task?   • onDraw() triggered but results don't show

    I have the following routine in a subclass of view: It calculates an array of points that make up a line, then erases the previous lines, then draws the new lines (impact refers to the width in pixels drawn with multiple lines). The line is your basic bell curve, squeezed or stretched by variance and x-factor. Unfortunately, nothing shows on the screen. A previous version with drawPoint() and no array worked, and I've verified the array contents are being loaded correctly, and I can see that my onDraw() is being triggered. Any ideas why it might not be drawn?     Let's say I'm developing an iPhone app that is a catalogue of cars. The user will choose a car from a list, and I will present a detail view for the car, which will describe things like top speed. The detail view will essentially be a UIWebView that is loading an existing HTML file. Different users will live in different parts of the world, so they will like to see the top speed for the car in whatever units are appropriate for their locale. Let's say there are two such units: SI (km/h) and conventional (mph). Let's also say the user will be able to change the display units by hitting a button on the screen; when that happens, the detail screen should switch to show the relevant units. So far, here's what I've done to try and solve this. Here's the second problem. I'm not sure how to switch to the correct style sheet upon initial load of the UIWebView.     I just can't figure out this memory leak that EurekaLog is reporting for my program. I'm using Delphi 2009. Here it is: Memory Leak: Type=Data; Total size=26; Count=1; The stack is: System.pas _UStrSetLength 17477 System.pas _UStrCat 17572 Process.pas InputGedcomFile 1145 That is all there is in the stack. EurekaLog is pointing me to the location where the memory that was not released was first allocated. According to it, the line in my program is line 1145 of InputGedcomFile. That line is: CurStruct0Key := 'HEAD' + Level0Key; where CurStruct0Key and Level0Key are simply defined in the procedure as local variables that should be dynamically handled by the Delphi memory manager when entering and leaving the procedure: var CurStruct0Key, Level0Key: string; So now I look at the _UStrCat procedure in the System Unit. Any help or explanation here will be much appreciated.

  • Xdebug: remote debugging won't stop at breakpoints

    I'm having a problem with xdebug not stopping at breakpoints when using remote debugging (everything is fine when running scripts via the command line). It will break at the first line of the program, then exit, not catching any breakpoints. It used to work fine, until I switched over to using MacPorts for Apache and PHP. I've tried re-compiling it serveral times (with several versions), but no dice. I'm using PHP 5.3.1 and Xdebug 2.1.0-beta3 I've also tried at least 3 different debugging programs (MacGDBp, Netbeans and JetBrains Web IDE). I did this by adding a folder to my python path, and putting relevant modules there, among them feedparser.     Hi I have no experience on perl. I am trying to configure the W3C validator on my localhost (win32). I have already followed all the instructions given by W3C @http://validator.w3.org/docs/install_win.html, but I am getting the following error: Can't locate loadable object for module Encode::HanExtra in @INC (@INC contains: C:/xampp/perl/lib C:/xampp/perl/site/lib .) at C:/xampp/validator-0.8.6/httpd/cgi-bin/check line 49 Compilation failed in require at C:/xampp/validator-0.8.6/httpd/cgi-bin/check line 49. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at C:/xampp/validator-0.8.6/httpd/cgi-bin/check line 49. I'm running perl 5.10.1 on xampp and the following HandExtra Module http://cpansearch.perl.org/src/AUDREYT/Encode-HanExtra-0.23/lib/Encode/HanExtra.pm This is C:/xampp/validator-0.8.6/httpd/cgi-bin/check line 49 : use Encode::HanExtra qw(); # for some chinese character encodings if I document that line using # I get a similar message related to other object: Can't locate loadable object for module Sub::Name in @INC (@INC contains: C:/xampp/perl/lib C:/xampp/perl/site/lib .) at C:/xampp/perl/site/lib/Moose.pm line 12 This is Line 12 at Moose.pm : use Sub::Name 'subname'; I don't know how to proceed.
