• How do I implement google maps yelp.com style?

  I have multiple locations (20+ per page) that need to be mapped on a single map. I would like to click on a link for the location that is not dynamically generated (for SEO purposes) that would open the info window for the respective marker on the map. Behavior should mimic http://maptheburg.com/ - but this map has the sidebar links dynamically generated. Yelp.com is the only site I have seen so far that manages to implement the Google Maps API with unobtrusive JavaScript.

  i take a regular multiselect listbox and convert it to a jquery ui multiselect listbox by calling this: $(".multiSelectMe").multiselect(); As per the API, i call this method in the return of an ajax function $(".multiSelectMe").multiselect("select", "Item 1"); but nothing seems to happen. i can't figure out a way to have this programatically add items within an ajax call. i was thinking there was maybe another "refresh" method or something like that but i can't find any.

  Anyone know how I can use httponly cookies for sessions and cookies on the app engine? In the javadoc for the Cookie class, http://java.sun.com/javaee/6/docs/api/javax/servlet/http/Cookie.html#setHttpOnly(boolean) , there is a setHttpOnly method. I get a compiler error when trying to use it when developing for app engine though. The method was introduced in the Servlet 3.0 spec, so its pretty new.

We are not sure if this is a library/api problem or if our modem is just of poor quality. Has anyone had any experience with these devices and measured the throughput rate?

• Replacing local home server with VPS: Suggestions?

  So right now, I'm running an old box with a 2TB HDD in it. I use this as a file server for the home network, as well as a box for downloading large files which are synced via Dropbox. Lots of other tinkering things, too. Basically, I'm sick of paying extra for the power and having to worry about drive failures and whatnot. I'd rather get a remote server, let someone else manage it and provide access from the Internet. So, I've been looking for a Windows VPS that would give me access to install things and tinker, and I'm having a problem finding a host that offers more than 100GB of hard drive space. If they do offer a package with 100GB of storage, everything else is waaayyyy more than what I actually need. The idea is to create a permanent VPN connection from the cloud server to my home network to provide a transparent solution so I'm not having to go to lengths to transfer files or whatnot. I think a VPS solution will allow me to do this. I would like 1TB of storage space, minimum 100Mbps Internet connection, minimum 250GB bandwidth, admin access. Anyone have anything? Or am I being unreasonable? If I am, why?

• TArray<Byte> VS TBytes VS PByteArray

  Those 3 types are very similar... TArray is the generic version of TBytes. Both can be casted to PByteArray and used as buffer for calls to Windows API. (with the same restrictions as string to Pchar). What I would like to know: Is this behavior "by design" or "By Implementation". Or more specifically, could it break in future release?

• Limit bandwith on network of computers

  We have network in office of approximately 10 computers sometimes when someone downloads something for work (e.g. syncing email with an attachment or Dropbox), everyone slows down. I could limit each computer in office but the problem is that we have an open WiFi network, and I cannot access the computers that use it. We have one main DSL router "Netopia 3347" and another router connected to it on wire for public wifi is "Linksys WRT110". I cannot change the setup we have and don't want to. There's 2 approaches here: Set office computers download limit in each computer and then I need to find out how I can set a download limit for the wifi network such as in the router settings. It's a Linksys router and I did not see the option for this, so maybe I need new router for WiFi? Don't bother with each computer and put some "specific hardware" or another computer before router so all traffic goes trough it and I can then assign priority maximum speed for each IP address. Question is what hardware do I need?

  Ok, so the initial search in StackOverflow shows nothing related for this question. So here it goes: Let's pretend for a moment that you're just getting started in a career in computer programming. Let's say that, for whatever reason, you decide to use the .Net framework as a basis for your programming. Let's also say that you've been exposed to some programming background, but not one in .Net, so it seems foreign to you at first. And lastly, you don't have the benefit of 25 years of exposure to the Win32 API, which explains why it seems so foreign to you when you start looking at it. So the questions are: What is a comprehensive overview of what .Net is? It appears to be a combination of a runtime environment, a set of languages, a common set of libraries, and perhaps a few other things...so it's about as clear as mud. Specifically, what are the key components to .Net? What is the easiest way to understand .Net programming with regard to available APIs? Which language would best suit beginning programming out of the "stock" languages that Microsoft has to offer? (C++, C#, VB, etc.) What are some differences between .Net programming and programming in a procedural language (aka Pascal, Modula, etc.) What are some differences between .Net programming and programming in a "traditional" object-oriented language? (aka Smalltalk, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.) As I currently understand it, the CLR provides a foundation for all of the other languages to run on. What are some of the inherent limitations of the CLR? Given the enormous amount of API to cover, would it even be worth learning a .Net language (using the Microsoft APIs) given that you would not have prior exposure to Win32 programming? • What could cause a huge packet loss in Ubuntu 9.10, for both wired and wireless?

  I was previously using 9.04 fine (and in fact, I am posting this from my old 9.04 live cd). I tested the following install steps in a virtualbox vm prior to following the sames ones to upgrade my laptop: Download/burn ubuntu minimal cd (12mb one) Install ubuntu minimal sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get ubuntu-desktop ubuntu-standard In the VM worked fine and I found myself with a working 9.10 ubuntu, network worked fine and I was able to test my backups and DropBox without a hitch (host was 9.04). When I followed the same steps on my laptop, everything worked up to after 9.10 being installed and working. As far as I can tell, everything besides eth0/wireless works. For some reason, I am unable to access the internet. Ping reports that over 99% of packets get lost (over an hour or so of pinging). This means for example that if I try hard enough, I can load a webpage but only at the cost of much patience... This happens both for a wired and wireless connection to my wrt310n (updated with latest firmware). At first I thought that it could be related to the ipv6 issues ppl have been experiencing however even after disabling ipv6 at the kernel level (through grub), I still get the issue. I do not think this is related to DNS issues or the likes since even when I ping my ISP's gateway IP, I have the same amount of packet loss. No DNS resolving should be required there. Access to my router works peachy with no packet loss there. I've tried different MTU values but to no avail. Note that this issue affects every web-enabled application: firefox, ping, synaptic, etc. The same hardware/router combo works with 9.04 but not with 9.10. In fact, when I did: sudo apt-get ubuntu-desktop ubuntu-standard after 9.10 minimal was installed, it downloaded over 400mb of packages without a hitch so my guess is that one of those packages either in ubuntu-desktop or ubuntu-standard is causing havok. Thoughts?

The HTML 5 canvas supports composite operations (See here). Is this possible in an Android Canvas? I scanned the API of the Canvas class but couldn't find anything useful.
