• Select * from 'many to many' SQL relationship

  I'm still learning SQL and my brain is having a hard time with this one. Say I have 3 tables: teams players and teams_players as my link table All I want to do is run a query to get each team and the players on them. I tried this: SELECT * FROM teams INNER JOIN teams_players ON teams.id = teams_players.team_id INNER JOIN players ON teams_players.player_id = players.id But it returned a separate row for each player on each team. Is JOIN the right way to do it or should I be doing something else? ----------------------------------------- Edit Ok, so from what I'm hearing, this isn't necessarily a bad way to do it. I'll just have to group the data by team while I'm doing my loop. I have not yet tried the modified SQL statements provided, but I will today and get back to you. To answer the question about structure - I guess I wasn't thinking about the returned row structure which is part of what lead to my confusion. In this particular case, each team is limited to 4 players (or less) so I guess the structure that would be helpful to me is something like the following: teams.id, teams.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, players.id, players.name, 1 Team ABC 1 Jim 2 Bob 3 Ned 4 Roy 2 Team XYZ 2 Bob 3 Ned 5 Ralph 6 Tom

• BindingFlags.DeclaredOnly alternative to avoid ambiguous properties of derived classes

  I'am looking for a solution to access 'flatten' (lowest) properties values of a class and its derived via reflection by property names. ie access either Property1 or Property2 from the ClassB or ClassC type : public class ClassA { public virtual object Property1 { get; set; } public object Property2 { get; set; } } public class ClassB : ClassA { public override object Property1 { get; set; } } public class ClassC : ClassB { } Using simple reflection works until you have virtual properties that are overrired (ie Property1 from ClassB). Then you get a AmbiguousMatchException because the searcher don't know if you want the property of the main class or the derived. Using BindingFlags.DeclaredOnly avoid the AmbiguousMatchException but unoverrided virtual properties or derived classes properties are ommited (ie Property2 from ClassB). Is there an alternative to this poor workaround : // Get the main class property with the specified propertyName PropertyInfo propertyInfo = _type.GetProperty(propertyName, BindingFlags.DeclaredOnly | BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance | BindingFlags.Static); // If not found, get the property wherever it is if (propertyInfo == null) propertyInfo = _type.GetProperty(propertyName); Furthermore, this workaround not resolve the reflection of 2nd level properties : getting Property1 from ClassC and AmbiguousMatchException is back.   I'm not sure how to make a few parts of my form to populate from data from an array I'm passing from the database. First is this <select> object. The key estimate_lead_id in the database holds the value, and I want the dropdown to auto-select based on the value from the database. <select name="estimate_lead_id"> <? foreach($leads->result() as $lead) { ?> <option value="<?=$lead->id?>"><?=$lead->lead_name?></option> <? } ?> </select> Second (this is a little more complex), I have created a script that loops through and gets all of the items from each respective category.   Hi there, I'm using a DataGridView binding its datasource to a List, and specifying the properties for each column. An example would be: DataGridViewTextBoxColumn colConcept = new DataGridViewTextBoxColumn(); DataGridViewCell cell4 = new DataGridViewTextBoxCell(); colConcept.CellTemplate = cell4; colConcept.Name = "concept"; colConcept.HeaderText = "Concept"; colConcept.DataPropertyName = "Concept"; colConcept.Width = 200; this.dataGridViewBills.Columns.Add(colConcept); {... assign other colums...} And finally this.dataGridViewBills.DataSource=billslist; //billslist is List<Bill> Obviously Class Bill has a Property called Concept, as well as one Property for each column. Well, now my problem, is that Bill should have and Array/List/whateverdynamicsizecontainer of strings called Years. Let's assume that every Bill will have the same Years.Count, but this only known at runtime.Thus, I can't specify properties like Bill.FirstYear to obtain Bill.Years[0], Bill.SecondYear to obtain Bills.Years[1]... etc... and bind it to each column. The idea, is that now I want to have a grid with dynamic number of colums (known at runtime), and each column filled with a string from the Bill.Years List. I can make a loop to add columns to the grid at runtime depending of Bill.Years.Count, but is possible to bind them to each of the strings that the Bill.Years List contains??? I'm not sure if I'm clear enough. • How can I modify my code to line through the bezier control points?

  HI all - I am using anchor points and control points to create a shape using curveTo. It's all working fine, but I cannot figure out how to get my lines to go through the center of the control points (blue dots) when the line is not straight. • Read HTML file into email

  Ive written a script to send html emails and all works well. I have the email stored in a separate HTML file which is then read in usin a while loop and fgets(). However, i want to be able to pass variables into the html. For example, in a html file i may have something like.. <body> Dear Name <br/> Thank you for your recent purhcase </body> and i read this into a string like so $file = fopen($filename, "r"); while(!feof($file)) { $html.= fgets($file, 4096); } fclose ($file); I want to be able to replace "Name" in the html file by a variable and im not entirely sure on the best way to do this. I could always make my own tag and then use regex to replace that with the name once ive read the file into the string, but im wondering if there is a better/easier method to do this. (On a side note, if anyone knows whether its better to use file_get_contents instead of multiple calls to fgets, id be interested to know)

• Sending items in a LINQ sequence to a method that returns void

  Hello all. Often while I'm dealing with LINQ sequences, I want to send each item to a method returning void, avoiding a foreach loop. However, I haven't found an elegant way to do this. Today, I wrote the following code: private StreamWriter _sw; private void streamToFile(List<ErrorEntry> errors) { if (_sw == null) { _sw = new StreamWriter(Path.Combine (Path.GetDirectoryName(_targetDatabasePath), "errors.txt")); } Func<ErrorEntry, bool> writeSelector = (e) => { _sw.WriteLine(getTabDelimititedLine(e)); return true; }; errors.Select(writeSelector); _sw.Flush(); } As you can see, I write a lambda function that just returns true, and I realize that the Select method will return a sequence of booleans- I'll just ignore that sequence. However, this seems a little bit noobish and jank. Is there any elegant way to do this? Or am I just misapplying LINQ? Thanks.

But now, working over my project, I've a problem adding data into my database.   After going through Entity Framework I have a couple of questions on implementing auditing in Entity Framework. I want to store each column values that is created or updated to a different audit table. Rightnow I am calling SaveChanges(false) to save the records in the DB(still the changes in context is not reset). Then get the added | modified records and loop through the GetObjectStateEntries.   I have a large xml passed from grails to flex. When flex receives the xml, it converts the xml into an associative array object. Given the large xml file, it takes too long to complete the loop, is there any way in flex to make conversion faster?   I'm trying to create something to read data from a .txt file, then populate data into .xls, but after open the .txt file, how do I get the data out? Basically I'm trying to get the the third column of the lines dated '04/06/2010'. After I open the .txt file, when I use ActiveSheet.Cells(row, col), the ActiveSheet is not pointing to .txt file. • How to get list of declared functions with their data from php file?

  I need to get list of functions with their contents (not only the function name) from php file. I tried to use regex but it has lots of limitations. it doesn't parse all types of functions. for example it fails if the function has if and for loop statements. in details: I have around 100 include files. each file has number of declared functions. some files has functions duplicated in other files. so what I want is to get list of all functions from specific file then put this list inside an array then I will be using array unique in order to remove the duplicates. • How do I load an XML document, add and remove nodes, then apply it to a ASP DataGrid control?

  I have a pretty simple operation but am struggling with how to implement it. I am loading XML from an external data source using a DataSet.ReadXml(), the creating a new XMLDataDocument from that data set, then syncing the Dataset back to the XMLDataDocument like so: doc = new XmlDataDocument(dsDataSet); dsDataSet.EnforceConstraints = false; dsDataSet= doc.DataSet; Once loaded I do two things to the XmlDataDocument: Loop through and check if a purely meta node, count, exists right beneath the root node and if so remove it. a thumb node exists in a second level nodelist and if not, create and append it. This is all going a expected because the result of doc.save() looks correct. Where I'm having an issue is updating the Dataset, which is being applied as the data source for an ASP DataGrid. Once all the above XMLDoc manipaulation is done I do this: dsDataSet.Merge(doc.DataSet); dsDataSet.AcceptChanges(); I then apply the data set to the grid control: dgList.DataSource = dsDataSet; dgList.DataBind(); But, when I do this I get this error on the site: System.Web.HttpException: DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'thumb'. What did I miss?

• Python access an object byref / Need tagging

  I need to suck data from stdin and create a object. The incoming data is between 5 and 10 lines long. Each line has a process number and either an IP address or a hash. For example: pid=123 ip=192.168.0.1 - some data pid=123 hash=ABCDEF0123 - more data hash=ABCDEF123 - More data ip=192.168.0.1 - even more data I need to put this data into a class like: class MyData(): pid = None hash = None ip = None lines = [] I need to be able to look up the object by IP, HASH, or PID. The tough part is that there are multiple streams of data intermixed coming from stdin. (There could be hundreds or thousands of processes writing data at the same time.) I have regular expressions pulling out the PID, IP, and HASH that I need, but how can I access the object by any of those values? My thought was to do something like this: myarray = {} for each line in sys.stdin.readlines(): if pid and ip: #If we can get a PID out of the line myarray[pid] = MyData().pid = pid #Create a new MyData object, assign the PID, and stick it in myarray accessible by PID. myarray[pid].ip = ip #Add the IP address to the new object myarray[pid].lines.append(data) #Append the data myarray[ip] = myarray[pid] #Take the object by PID and create a key from the IP. <snip>do something similar for pid and hash, hash and ip, etc...</snip> This gives my an array with two keys (a PID and an IP) and they both point to the same object. But on the next iteration of the loop, if I find (for example) an IP and HASH and do: myarray[hash] = myarray[ip] The following is False: myarray[hash] == myarray[ip] Hopefully that was clear. I hate to admit that waaay back in the VB days, I remember being able handle objects byref instead of byval. Is there something similar in Python? Or am I just approaching this wrong?

  I'm trying to build a simple form in a c++ win32 console application. instead of using cin and keep prompting the user to enter the details, i would like to display the form labels then using the tab key, allow the user to tab through. What is the simplest way of doing this, without having to use ncurses? all I need is cout the below all at once: Name: Username: Email: set the cursor position next to name Field, then each time you hit tab, i gotoxy, and set the cursor at the next position, then set the the cin to the next variable eg. at startup gotoxy(nameX, nameY); cin >> name; Hit Tab/enter gotoxy(usernameX, usernameY); cin >> username; Hit Tab/enter gotoxy(emailX, emailY); cin >> email; is this even doable? I tried while loops with, GetAsyncKeyState, and keyboard events, but the cin is not working properly in that loop. is there any good example for a super simple form, or reference for doing that? I know how to SetConsoleCursorPosition, but how to implement the tabbing while still being able to capture cin? thanks

  for my app each annotation on a map corresponds to a mine locality. each mine has its own unique 7 digit integer identifier. I'm trying to add the property minesEntryNumber to the annotation so when the annotation is clicked on later I can bring up specific information on the selected annotation. It loads the map and shows the annotations. however when I try and put this in it brings up an error. So how do I add this property to each annotation and how do I access it later in a different .m file?

• Creating Multiple TextFields in runtime AS2

  Hi lads, I have an issue generating multiple text fields in AS2. My AS2 Flash application calls database (via PHP) and then receives XML file that contains a few objects. All I want to do is to loop throught this XML objects and then create a TextField (actually a Component that contains graphics and TextField, but this will come later) based on the information from XML object. Until the String newDateStr it is working, I manage to change the type of the date. But I get syntax error: Type mismatch: Cannot convert from java.util.date to java.sql.data. I suspect the problem but if it is not possible, how can i do this?

  I'm using the Facebook JS SDK for single-sign with my rails app. I translated the php code from the Facebook example (at the bottom of the page under "Single Sign-on with the JavaScript SDK") into ruby. This appeared to be working great but I've noticed one user that gets continual redirects when trying to login. The logs look like: Processing UsersController#login (for X.X.X.X at 2010-05-22 17:25:55) [GET] Redirected to http://myapp.com/ Completed in 0ms (DB: 0) | 302 Found [http://myapp.com/login] (times as many entries as my unfortunate user leaves the browser redirecting in a loop). My client side code includes a callback with the "auth.sessionChange": FB.Event.subscribe('auth.sessionChange', function(response) { if (response.session) { // A user has logged in, and a new cookie has been saved window.location = "/login"; } else { // The user has logged out, and the cookie has been cleared window.location = "/logout"; } }); So it seems to me like this event is continually firing. Although, I can't test this theory because I can't recreate this scenario locally. I don't think it's the rails controller. • javascript pausing consistently. How do I find what is causing it to pause?

  I've got a fairly ajax heavy site and I'm trying to tune the performance. I have a function that runs between 20 & 200 times, depending on the user. I'm outputting the time the function takes to execute via console.time in firefox. The function takes about 4-6ms to complete. The strange thing is that on my larger test with 200 or runs through that function, it runs through the first 31, then seems to pause for almost a second before completing the last 170 or so. However, that 'pause' doesn't show up in the console.time logs, and I'm not running any other functions, and the object that gets passed to the function looks the same as all other objects that get passed in. The function is called like this for (var s in thisGroup.events){ showEvent(thisGroup.events[s]) } so, I don't see how or why it would suddenly pause near the beginning. but only pause once and then continue through. The pause ALWAYS happens on the 31st time through the function. I've taken a close look at the 'thisGroup.events[s]' that it is being run through, and it looks like this for #31 "eventId":"5106", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"70","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"6:00 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"5", "durationTime":"5:00", "note":"", "desc":"event" The event immediately after the pause, #32 looks like this "eventId":"5111", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"71","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"6:00 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"5", "durationTime":"5:00", "note":"", "desc":"event" another event that runs through no problem looks like this "eventId":"5113", "sid":"68", "gid":"29", "uid":"72","type":"event", "startDate":"2010-03-22","startTime":"4:30 PM","endDate":"2010-03-22","endTime":"11:00 PM","durationLength":"6.5", "durationTime":"6:30", "note":"", "desc":"event" From the console outputs, it doesn't appear as there is anything hanging or taking up time in the function itself, as the console.time for each event including #31,32 is 4ms. Another strange thing here is that the total time running the for loop across the entire object is coming out as 1014ms which is right for 200 events at 4-6ms each. Any suggestions on how to find this 'pause'? I find it very interesting that it is consistently happening between #31 & #32 only!
