• TFS Build Server Cannot find Assembly Reference

  I looked at this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/547468/assembly-references-wont-resolve-properly-on-our-build-server but it didn't help the issue. I am (extremely) new to TFS, and just installed 2010 on a VM. I imported a project and got everything working-ish. I went to create a new build through team explorer, and set it up to build on each check-in. It build's locally just fine, but when it's built on check-in it dies on a 3rd party assembly reference. The reference is not in the GAC, but part of the local references. There is only one 3rd party dll, and the projects only reference each other in the solution. I have a feeling I'm missing some important step with regards to TFS and references. Any ideas? EDIT: This a test installation...there is nothing else installed on this box, with the exception of SQL and IIS.

• Is it more efficient to always run a delete query, or to check if that information exists first

  Ok this is going to seem like a dumb question to experienced developers, but questions like this bother me until I ask them. So... is it more efficient to always run a delete query by default whether an entry exists or not, for example to delete a user name after a certain period of time (DELETE * from table where username=user), or should you check if that entry exists first using a select query and mysql_num_rows. What uses more processor on the server side? Obviously one approach contains more code, but I was wondering if certain mysql operations used a lot more cpu than others.

• Any Java library for address extraction from emails?

  I'm looking for an Java open-source library which is able to extract address information from a (German) email (signature). The library should find name street city, city code/postal code email tel/fax address-parser.com is an commercial product, but a free (albeit simple) library would be great. stackoverflow.com/questions/16413/parse-usable-street-address-city-state-zip-from-a-string is asking for something similar, but my problem is broader because the address information is hidden in a complete email. And there isn't a solution either... Any ideas?

• What open source database platform is most easily transferred from my personal machine into a window

  I would like eventual interaction with MS Dynamics SL and/or MindTouch Core (running on WMware) for eventual intranet and/or internet display. I guess I am asking for front and back end recommendations for a database I am constructing, but since this is my first major project I would greatly appreciate any help and advice. I would also love an opportunity to learn a new language so the code base could be in any language. I do have a few more related questions for discussion; What is the viability of using Google hosting to provide the service to the public for free? Should I implement plone or another CMS if I have a large amount of output? Is there a structuring questionnaire or standards publication I could reference? Does UML diagramming provide additional options for portability? Thank you.

• Windows Media Center 6 Development on Vista

  I have two development machines -- one is Windows 7, the other is Windows Vista. Depending on where I am in my house is which machine I use. I am writing a Windows Media Center 6 (which ships as part of Windows 7) application. I installed the WMC6 SDK on my Windows 7 machine with no issues. However, when I try and install it on my Vista machine, I am told the WMC6 SDK cannot be installed on Vista. So my questions are: How can I develop a WMC6 app on Vista? If I use the Vista version of the SDK (WMC5.3 SDK) will I be able to edit / compile and test the same application from each machine. I imagine the answer to the second question is "no" because the API changed between those two versions. So can I only work on this application from my Windows 7 machine? That really sucks if it is true!

  I currently have implemented an overlayitem that shows an icon for geopoint on a map application in Android. When the icon is clicked, it brings up an AlertDialog from the onTap method below. I have the following questions: Does anyone know how to display a map message bubble directly above the icon overlayitem with 2 callout buttons one to the left of the title and one to the right of the bubble? Does anyone know how to make the overlayitem draggable so I can press and hold it and drag it across the map. I am trying to duplicate the draggable icon behavior that's available on the iPhone. If so, please share some sample code. • Should tests be self written in TDD?

  We run a project, which we want to solve with test driven development. I thought about some questions that came up, when initiating the project. One question was, who should write the unit-test for a feature. Should the unit-test be written by the feature-implementing programmer? Or should the unit test be written by another programmer, who defines what a method should do and the feature-implementing programmer implements the method until the tests runs? If i understand the concept of TDD in the right way. The feature-implementing programmer has to write the test by himself, because TDD is procedure with mini-iterations. So it would be too complex to have the tests written by another programmer? What would you say, should the tests in TDD written by the programmer himself or should another programmer write the tests that describes what a method can do?

Naively I assumed the former would perform better than the later because gL is precomputed whereas G_of 1L has to be computed 100,000 times (at least it appears that way).

• Opening AFOpenFlowView already in landscape mode

  I'm using the open source CoverFlow replacement from here: http://fajkowski.com/blog/2009/08/02/openflow-a-coverflow-api-replacement-for-the-iphone/ When I detect that a certain view has gone from portrait to landscape mode, I instantiate an AFCoverFlowView and push it onto the navigation stack. If I do so in response to (void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation The cover flow view comes up as though the phone were still in portrait mode. If I push the view in response to (void)willRotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation it works perfectly - the view comes up in landscape mode with the phone in landscape mode Unfortunately, the device doesn't reliable get willRotateToInterfaceOrientation messages. I have tried making sure that [[UIDevice currentDevice] beginGeneratingDeviceOrientationNotifications]; is in loadView but that doesn't help with the notificiations. So, my questions are: Is there a way to reliably get willRotateToInterfactOrientation? if not How do I instruct AFCoverFlowView to come up in landscape mode (if the device is already in landscape mode)

• Extracting Text from between parentheses in PHP using preg_replace

  I am trying to take a string of text like so: $string = "This (1) is (2) my (3) example (4) text"; In every instance where there is a positive integer inside of parentheses, I'd like to replace that with simply the integer itself. The code I'm using now is: $result = preg_replace("((\d+))", "$0", $string); But I keep getting a "Delimiter must not be alphanumeric or backslash" error. Any thoughts? I know there are other questions on here that sort of answer the question, but my knowledge of regex is not enough to switch it over to this example.

  I have been tasked with coming up with a strategy for branching, merging and releasing over the next 6 months. The complication comes from the fact the we will be running multiple projects all with different code changes and different release dates but approximately the same development start dates. At present we are using VSS for code management, but are aware that it will probably cause some issues and will be migrating to TFS before new development starts. What strategies should I be employing and what things should I be considering before setting a plan down?   In VS2008, I have a web-site project. When I use find in files and search for a string, the find results window will list every occurence twice. What could be causing this? [EDIT] Below is the screen capture from VS. I was searching for the work CommissionBucketProductID within my website project. Notice that each line is returned twice. [EDIT2] In response to your questions. I am only searching within the project, not the whole solution. I currently don't have these files under VSS, although they were in the past.

  The string should be 6 - 20 characters in length. And it should contain 1 Capital letter. I can do this in code using C# string st = "SomeString" Regex rg = new Regex("[A-Z]"); MatchCollection mc = rg.Matches(st); Console.WriteLine("Total Capital Letters: " + mc.Count); if (mc.Count > 1) { return false; } But what i really want is a Regular expression that will match my string if it only contains one capital. • Altering CSS for nav bar images to accomodate IE

  My horizontal nav bar is populated with images for the links that are coming from one image that includes all the sub-images; each nav item image is identified by the pixel location within the larger image. This works perfectly fine in Firefox and Safari, but in IE, all of the images are misplaced too low within the nav bar (can only barely see the tops of the words). Two questions: How do I fix this in the css so it is back-compatible with the more recent versions (and current versions) of IE Do I need a separate IE stylesheet? Thanks!

• How to prepare for a Java test?

  Ok so in two days I have a test for my dream job (well it's an internship, but still!) and for quite some time now I've been reading the SCJP Guide book in order to prepare myself. BUT seeing how slow my reading speed is I guess finding a website with some "java essentials" or "standard java test questions" and going through it in those 2 days would be a better idea. Don't misunderstand me, I do have java experience and it's "only" an internship, but we all know how programming tests look like and how tricky they can be. So are there any online resources you could recommend me? I know 2 days is not much, but well I was informed bout the test 1-2days ago.

  This question was posted by a C beginner and it was an exercise to calculate, given a dollar value input by the user, the minimum number of bills (or banknotes, depending on your locale) needed to reach that dollar value. So, if the user entered 93, the output would be: $20 bills = 4 $10 bills = 1 $5 bills = 0 $1 bills = 3 Finally succumbing to the phenomenon (it's a slow day here), I thought this would be ripe for a game of Code Golf. For fairness, the input prompt needs to be (note the "_" at the end is a space): Enter a dollar amount:_ I think I've covered all the bases: no identical question, community wiki.
