How can I find a job in Rails when most job offering requires 2-5 years of Rails experience? What is the most effective strategy to get some credibility as a Rails Developer?     I've been following Ryan Bates' Railscasts tutorial on CarrierWave, which you can find here Everything works fine, except for when I go to view my profile, it gives me this error: undefined local variable or method `user' I don't know why it is telling me this, as I am using Devise for my authentication, and that is the name of my model.   • How can unwanted tags be removed from HTML using Nokogiri?

    I need to strip out all font tags from a document. When attempting to do so with the following Ruby code, other elements and text within the font tags are lost. I've also attempted to iterate through all children elements and make them siblings of the font tag before unlinking the font tag--which also results in lost HTML. What is a good method for removing tags which can contain other elements and/or text? doc.css('font').each do |element| element.unlink end

RadRails has a "Switch to Test" function for my controller, model, etc. but not for my library. if I have class Foo::Bar in /lib/foo/bar.rb, where should I put the unittest for it? or should I separate the foo library in a separated project?   • handling javaScript alerts when running a selenium test?

    Hi I am am running some selenium tests(ruby) on my web page and as i enter an invalid characters in to a text box i have the JavaScript throw a alert like so if(isNaN($(this).val()) || Number($(this).val().valueOf() <=0)){ alert("Please Enter A Number"); } how can i handle this alert when its made and close the pop up? i tried to use the wait_for_pop_up() and close() but i think that's only for browser pop up's and not JavaScript alerts. any ideas? thanks

    Normally to pass parameters via in RSpec we do: params[:my_key] = my_value get :my_method Where my_method deals with what it received from params. But in my controller I have a method, which takes args directly i.e.: def my_method(*args) ... end How do I call the method with those args from within the test? I've tried get :my_method(args) but Ruby interpreter complains about syntax error.

I want to add another language to my repertoire and have gotten conflicting advice: Ruby, Python, Perl, JavaScript, PHP, AJAX, among others.     I am looking for a system to parallelise a large suite of tests in a Ruby on Rails app (using rspec, cucumber) that works using JRuby. Cucumber is actually not too bad, but the full rSpec suite currently takes nearly 20 minutes to run. The systems I can find (hydra, parallel-test) look like they use forking, which isn't the ideal solution for the JRuby environment.

  • What jquery rails 3 tutorial has worked well for you?

    Hi! I have looked at several tutorials involving rails 3 and jquery. The tutorial at http://www.blog.bridgeutopiaweb.com/post/how-to-use-jquery-for-rails-3/ looked promising. However, I get the errors of document.on is not a function and $("a[data-remote=true]").livequery is not a function I get the feeling that I should look at another tutorial or just use jquery raw and not install a ruby gem for jquery.     We have server on Python and client + web service on Ruby. That works only if file from URL is less than 800 k. It seems like "socket.puts data" in a client works, but "output = socket.gets" - not. I think problem is in a Python part. For big files tests run "Connection reset by peer". Is it buffer size variable by default somewhere in a Python?

    I am trying to use the Sunlight API gem with a Rails project. I have installed the gem and can successfully use it from irb. However, when I put the require statement (require 'sunlight') in sunlight.rb in config/initializers, I get the following error: /opt/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-3.0.0.beta3/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:209:in `require': no such file to load -- sunlight (LoadError) I checked the permissions on the gems directory, and it is world readable/executable.
