  Hi everyone, I had two monitors and while using 3DSMax I had my Viewport opened on one monitor and all my drop-down tabs on the other (such as "Material Editor" , ... ). But I have just recently moved and only brought with me one monitor so now I can't access the drop-down tabs. How do I go about resolving the issus. Thank you

• Restrict second screen to certain window/application

  I have a system with two screens. On the primary screen, I want to use Windows in a normal way. On the secondary screen, I want to display a window of a certain application and nothing else. In no case should anything else than this specific window show up on the secondary screen: no other applications, no dialog boxes. If possible, I want to restrict the mouse pointer to the primary screen as well. I tried UltraMon, but I think my requirements go beyond its features. Any ideas?

  SU Folks, What laptops do you know off that can run a 27" or 30" external monitor as a secondary display (Extending desktop onto second screen, without switching off the laptop's own built in screen) at the screens native resolution of 2560x1600. I'm not interested docks or USB video adapters etc. Just via the laptop's built in display ports. List the port used and cable as well if possible. Reference links / posts that confirm it are an added bonus. I'm hoping people who've tried it themselves and / or confirmed it can list specific models of laptops so we can build up a good list.

• Multi-machine backup solutions

  I have a growing number of PCs and laptops in my home that need a backup solution. My question is 2 fold: Most commercial backup vendors appear to license by the machine, are there any products that give a license that can be used on all your machines, without a per machine cost? An alternative is to have a centrally controlled back up strategy controlled from a single PC with an attached hard drive that can back up other machines on the network. What backup software is suitable for this approach? Will this software be windows/Linux interoperable? I've searched for duplicate questions but don't see anything that addresses the multi machine/cost issue. OSs in network will be Windows (XP, Vista, 7) and Linux variants. Not pattern to when machines will be switched on.

  I'm looking to transfer data across 2 lv of an HP-UX server. I have a couple of those transfers to do, some of which are mostly binary (Oracle tablespace...) and some others are more text files (logs...). Used data size of the volumes is between 100Gb and 1Tb. Also, I will be changing the block size from 1K to 8K on some of these partitions... Things I'm looking for: Guarantees data integrity Fastest data transfer speed Keeps file ownership and permissions Right now, I've thought about dd, cp and rsync, but I'm not sure on the best one to use and the best way to use them...

• Program opens on disconnected and invisible monitor [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Recover Windows Opening Off Screen? I'm working with a HP Elitebook 8460p with Windows 8 using always 2 Monitors connected. And some Programs I'm always opening on the second screen (which windows does automatically). But now the problem: When the screens aren't connected (when I'm at home), some programs still open on the second screen (which does not exist anymore) and it's just not possible to move them to the main (only!) screen! Does some one knows a solution for the problem - already bringing back the windows to the main screen would be enough. Thanks

• What could cause a dual-monitor PC to suddenly stop using one of the screens?

  I've got a dual-monitor setup using a GeForce 7900GT that was working fine for over a year... then suddenly, only one of the screens works. It's not OS-related, because even on startup, only one screen displays the BIOS checks. In the past, both screens would show it together. I didn't change anything to trigger this The monitor that gets a signal is random -- sometimes the one on the left goes black, sometimes the one on the right. The monitors and their cables are good -- I can switch both or either, and I get a signal just fine. They're plugged in, too. It's not the video card, either -- I have an identical 7900GT in another machine, and swapping the two didn't fix anything. It's not dust on the motherboard -- I pulled everything out, cleaned it off, checked for obvious damage, put it all back together, and no change. My next two steps are going to be to reset the CMOS info and to try swapping out the motherboard. Before I do that, does anyone have any other ideas?

• Can Remote Desktop connect only 2 monitors when the client has 3 or 4 monitors connected?

  I have three monitors (all 1920x1200) connected to my desktop and I would like to RDP into another computer (running Windows Server 2003) and use only two of my three monitors. The main monitor is used for notification from the LAN like email, build status, etc. I've tried modifying the .rdp file to have a higher resolution (i.e. 3840x1200 ) which sort of works but the bits per pixel goes down to 8 and you have to manually resize the window which means that you need to change it to around 3840x1150. If I supply /span to the commandline it gives me a bit more than 3840 spanned across the three monitors (is there perhaps a limitation of say 4096 for the maximum resolution?). WORKAROUND: Connect twice to the same computer.   I have a 2TB SATA drive that was being used as file storage on my UBUNTU computer. I was re-imaging my windows box so I used that drive to back up some files to it. I did this by taking the drive from my windows PC and putting it in my UBUNTU PC, mounted it and copied the files over. After the windows refresh I thought it would be easier to take the 2 TB drive and dock it in the external dock my Windows case has built in. Anyway it would recognize in BIOS but windows would not see it (because it was EXT3 or EXT4) so when I went into the disk manager it advised me the drive needed to be initialized. Me not thinking I initialized it as a GUID Partition table. Now it sees it as a blank drive, even in UBUNTU. I have done nothing else to write or change the drive. I was wondering if there is a qay to repair the old partitioning and get access to my files back? many thanks! EDIT: I followed the instructions in the link @kniwor sent me. • How to set up an extended desktop on dual monitors in Kubuntu 9.04?

  I'm using my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T60) and I have a secondary monitor (which has a different resolution than my laptop screen) connected by VGA. Kubuntu recognizes the monitor and it functions but my desktop is mirrored (i.e. an identical copy) across the dual monitors (which is useless to me). How can I extend my desktop across both monitors? P.S. I googled it but the solutions I found weren't standard, they were hardware specific and you had to manually change system files, etc.. I'm getting rid of our archaic paper binder systems for tracking appointments and what not. I've made a lot of things successfully already, now I'm trying to tackle the personal training department. What I want: Trainer information and work schedule Appointment booking that can be done by time slot with all available trainers for that time, or by trainer with all available hours for that trainer What I've tried so far: I started with an 'appointments' database, a 'trainers' database, and a 'schedules' database. This became so complicated trying to fit the schedule in that I scrapped it. Does anyone know know the best way to structure the tables for this and how to sort of make them communicate correctly? I don't need specific code, I just need help understand how to make this thing!

But after update can't enable 3d monitor, only 2 could be enabled at the same time. Did current things before write question here: Remove all drivers, reboots, re-installs Different cable input's and orders of enabling Tried to enable each monitor from Catalyst and Windows Screen Resolution Spec's: Windows 8.1 Pro XFX HD7970 3 of LG E2442 Cables: 2 DVI 1 HDMI Googled for many time and found one of possible solution is to buy ACTIVE mini DisplayPort to DVI/HDMI, but maybe there are some another more simple solutions?

  I have two monitors and my coworker has three. We were wondering if there was a way to set a single background image to stretch across all the monitors. Right now it's the same image but repeated, so it looks like the same image three times in a row. I would like it to be so that the three images/screens combine to show one image if that makes sense. If I can't set one image to stretch across the screens like that, is there a way to set a different background for each screen? Edit: I just wanted to clarify: I am not talking about one image stretching from his monitors to mine, just stretching across our own monitors.

• Older monitor not working with HDMI to DVI cable (from ultrabook)

  I have a Lenovo Yoga ultrabook which only has a HDMI port. I bought an HDMI to DVI cable, and it works as expected with a LG monitor in my office. As soon as I plug it in the screen is cloned. At home I have an older Dell UltraSharp 2005fp, and for that one it does not work. When I plug the cable in "something" happens, the monitor goes from the "no signal" screen to black. On the laptop however nothing happens. In the Windows 8 display setup I don't have another monitor, clicking "detect" does not find one either. I can manually set a second display for cloning or extending, but never get a picture on the Dell. Connecting my media player thing with the cable to the Dell monitor works for when the player displays it's logo at a low resolution, but when it goes into 750p mode after booting the picture also goes away. Mabye that's due to HDCP though. Any ideas? Something to do with Windows 8, or DVI versions?

• Looking for "pad" for my keyboard + mouse in a multi-monitor setup

My keyboard and mouse are in the middle of my desk which is appropriate for work on both monitors but when I want to focus on one of them only (say that I'm writing in MS Word on the right monitor), I'd like to move my keyboard and mouse to the right. I can do that manually but because of all the wires and other things, it is quite inconvenient when done frequently. I'm looking for something that I would put under both my keyboard and my mouse and that would slide to one side or the other easily. Is there anything like that available on the market?

Now I would like to setup htcacheclean to watch over the cache directories but as fare as I understand the manual, I can only set it to one cache directory. I would like to do something like this but that doesn't work: <VirtualHost> ServerName domain1.tld ... CacheRoot /var/www/vhosts/domain1.tld/httpdocs/cache htcacheclean -n -t -p/var/www/vhosts/domain1.tld/httpdocs/cache -l1024M ... </VirtualHost> Is it even right to have multiple cache directorys or should I work with just one cache directory for all of the domains?

• Can't access my admin ubuntu account

  It just shows a black screen with words in it for a fraction of a second and then gets back to users screen(where you choose your user). I tried to enter from another account and removed the password for the admin account , but it didn't work too , and then I couldn't access my admin privileged places with my old password ? What should I do ? I tried to change my password from recovery but no success.
