  • PHP Count the lenght of each value in a array/string (tags)

    Users writing an article have the option to write some tags, tags are written like this: tag1, tag2, tag3 So tags are stored like: $tags = "tag1, tag2, tag3"; I want to make sure, every tag has a minimum of 3 characters, so i need to validate the tags. I have tried this: $tagsstring = explode(",", $tags); $tagslength = array_map('strlen', $tagsstring); if (min($tagslength) < 3) { echo "Error... Each tag has to be at least 3 characters."; } It seems to work, sometimes... But of you write: tag1, df It wont give an error. Any suggestions?

    I have an array of phrases (max 2 words) like $words = array('barack obama', 'chicago', 'united states'); and then I have a string like: $sentence = "Barack Obama is from Chicago. Barack Obama's favorite food it pizza."; I want to find/create an efficient algorithm that would return the number of occurrences of the words in the array $words in the string $sentence. In this case it would be: 'barack obama' => 2 'chicago' => 0 How can I built this?

I have the form emailed to me after it gets submitted, but I can't figure out how to capture the user's email from the form field and have it send it to them automatically??? So my string looks like this; $str = 'one,two,one,five,seven,bag,tea'; I can do it be exploding the string to values and then compare, but I think it will be slow. what about preg_replace() will it be faster? Any one did it using this function?

  • PHP to make vars and values part of array

    I currently have this function to search and replace in a text file. // Input $ect = array('Visssa', 'Lisssa', 'her'); // Placeholders in the file $put = array('lname', 'fname', 'hisher'); // Replace the placeholders $oput = str_replace($put, $ct, 'tmpfile.txt'); This is not the full program but the idea is replace the values found in tmpfile.txt with the ones found in the $etc array. And it works flawlessly. But, what I need to do is get all passed vars (get/post) and then make the arrays so that the var is the value to replace and the value is the value to replace it with. So, if I sent the url http://xyz.com/?lname=tom&ogre=yes All instances of lname in the file would be replaces with tom and all instances of ogre would be replaced with yes. So somehow it just gets any/all variables passed in get/post and then the arrays showed above would cause the var to be replaced by the value in the file.

    I'm running the following code over a set of 5,000 results. It's failing due to the memory being exhausted. foreach ($data as $key => $report) { $data[$key]['data'] = unserialize($report['serialized_values']); } I know I can up the memory limit, but I'd like to run this without a problem instead. I'm not going to be able to keep upping the memory forever.     Let's assume I have an array of object properties I'd like to access: $properties = array('foo', 'bar'); I'd like to loop through the object and access these properties dynamically (specifically, I'm trying to dynamically handle missing JSON elements based on an array of expected elements): foreach ($data as $item) { foreach ($properties as $property) { if (empty($item->{$property})) { // Do something } } } Each $item in $data should have the properties 'foo' and 'bar'. If empty(), I'll handle them. I'm trying to get the loop (in line 3) to access $item-{'foo'} and $item-{'bar'}, but it's not working. Any idea why? Thanks!

  • PHP and storing stats

    Using PHP5 and the latest version of MySQL I want to be able to track impressions and clicks for business listings. My question is if I did this myself what would be the best method in storing it so I can run reports? Before I just had a table that had the listing id, user ip address and if it was a click or impression as well as the date it was tracked. However the database itself is approaching 2GB of data and its very slow, part of the problem is its a pretty simple script that includes impressions and clicks from anyone including search engines and basically anyone or anything that accesses the listing page. Is there an api or file out there that has an update to date list that can detect if the person viewing is a actually person and not a spider so I dont fill up the database with unneeded stats? Just looking for suggestions, do I just have a raw database that gets just the hits then a cron job at night tally up for the day for each listing for each ip and store the cumulative stats in a different table? Also what type of database should it be? Innodb? MyISAM?

The data we have to work with is the whole pages HTML as a variable. The page & URL will be different for every time this function runs.     Within the following code, $quiz_object->personalities contains an array of Personality() objects. // Loop through each personality that exists for the quiz foreach($quiz_object->personalities AS $existing_personality) { // Show all of the existing personalities echo $existing_personality->GetQuizMakerPersonalityHTML(); } How do I "cast" (I think that's the right word) my variable $existing_personality within the foreach loop as the object type? I wish to do this so that when I type $existing_personality->, I get the list of public functions available for that object type. At the moment, Zend doesn't know that it refers to a Personality object within the loop.
