  • NSTextField enter to trigger action

    - by Chris
    I've been looking all over for a simple example of how to have an action (or button) be triggered when the enter key is hit in the text field. Should I subclass the text field? Would I need to set a delegate to call the action I need? Is there a way to catch the event in my main window controller class? If you could even just point me to the right direction that would be great. Thanks.

  • In Ruby, how to write a method to display any object's instance variable names and its values

    - by Jian Lin
    Given any object in Ruby (on Rails), how can I write a method so that it will display that object's instance variable names and its values, like this: @x: 1 @y: 2 @link_to_point: #<Point:0x10031b298 @y=20, @x=38> I also want to be able to print <br> to the end of each instance variable's value so as to print them out nicely on a webpage. the difficulty now seems to be that not every instance variable has an accessor, so it can't be called with obj.send(var_name) (the var_name has the "@" removed, so "@x" becomes "x")

  • PHP text parsing and / or make your own language?

    - by AlexanderJohannesen
    Been Googling around without finding much at all, so does anyone know of a class or library that helps you parse any sort of language, like a Domain Specific Language (I'm creating one, so I'm flexible in what the syntax and format can be) into either PHP code or some helpful struct or a class hiearchy or ... ? Anything goes at this point. :) I want to experiment with parsing text files into tokens, building up a small grammar and syntax library to express things like Business Natural Languages.

  • How to free static member variable in C++?

    - by user299831
    Can anybody explain how to free memory of a static member Variable? In my understanding it can only be freed if all the instances of the class are destroyed. I am a little bit helpless at this point... Some Code to explain it: class ball { private: static SDL_Surface *ball_image; }; //FIXME: how to free static Variable? SDL_Surface* ball::ball_image = SDL_LoadBMP("ball.bmp");

  • C# underlying types of enums

    - by Marlon
    What is the point of having enum SomeEnum : byte // <---- { SomeValue = 0x01, ... } when you have to make a cast just to assign it to the same type of variable as the enums underlying type? byte b = (byte)SomeEnum.SomeValue;

  • Using macro to check null values

    - by poliron
    My C code contains many functions with pointers to different structs as parameters which shouldn't be NULL pointers. To make my code more readable, I decided to replace this code: if(arg1==NULL || arg2==NULL || arg3==NULL...) { return SOME_ERROR; } With that macro: NULL_CHECK(arg1,arg2,...) How should I write it, if the number of args is unknown and they can point to different structs?(I work in C99)

  • WCF - Error Handling

    - by inutan
    Hello there, I have my WCF Service hosted in Windows Service. The client application is a website project to which I added the Service reference. I was not using any error logging/tracing... but now I feel I should implement as it will help me not to make void guesses. Please guide me for the best practice so that I can quickly handle errors and pin point the exact issue. Thank you!

  • Automatically download files in Ruby

    - by Obinna
    I'm trying to write a ruby script which automatically downloads some files from some server ever 30-45 minutes (to prevent overload) as long as my computer is turned on. It's possible that my computer might be turned off at some point, but the download should resume (probably re-download the current file). I already have the file list but I can't figure out how to make such a script to run autonomously. What are some ways I can do this?

  • Do compiled PHP scripts exist?

    - by dabito
    Hi, I am wondering if anyone has used or read about PHP scripts compiled as a .so extension for Apache... Thing is I think I remember reading about it somewhere but dont know if such a thing exists. This looks promising, but incomplete and abandoned: http://phpcompiler.org/ Im interested because i think it could improve performance... Perhaps someone could point out a framework or apache extension that does this. Thanks!!

  • What difference between Web Apps & Descktop app shoud one keep in mind to model the system right?

    - by simple
    Sometimes it seems like some architectural techniques are not for the Web application I am building and then I just go and code =(, Though I really want to make a habit to architect system before moving to the code, as when I just code I endup writing some useless components which then I rewrite =(, So can you just point out some differences between web apps and desktop ones ?

  • Component Level Documentation

    - by Jason Summers
    I'm trying to make good on a promise I've made to provide a decent set of documentation for a C# component that I've written. I've done some googling and found templates for software design at high and low level. The problem is that all of the templates seem to be geared towards a complete system design as opposed to individual components and are consequently overkill. Can anyone please point me in the direction of a template geared towards component documentation? Many thanks

  • When would I want to model a class with a private ctor?

    - by dotnetdev
    Hi, I've seen plenty of classes in .NET which have private constructor (Stream is one of them I think). When would I want to model a class like this? I keep thinking that if my class has no internal state/fields, then I can make it have a private constructor. Am I on the right track with this idea? I can understand the use of a factory (I've run into the tipping point a few times), but not with a private constructor class. Thanks

  • How do I find the list of functions executed to build a page?

    - by ashy_32bit
    I want the list of all functions executed to a certain point in code, somehow like debug_backtrace() but including functions not in the exact thread that leads to where debug_backtrace() is called. e.g : a(); function a() { b(); c(); d(); } function b() { } function c() { } function d() { print all_trace(); } would produce : a(), b(), c(), d() and not a(), d() like debug_backtrace() would
