• Push or Pull Input Data In the Game Logic?

  In the process of preparing my game for networking I'm adding a layer of seperation between the physical input (mouse/keyboard) and the actual game "engine"/logic. All input that has any relation to the game logic is wrapped inside action objects such as BuildBuildingAction. I was thinking of having an action processing layer that would determine what to do with the input. This layer could then be set up to either just pass the actions locally to the game engine or send it via sockets to the network server depending on whether the game was single- or multiplayer. In network games it would make sense that the player's actions should be sent to the server, but should the game logic be pulling (polling?) the data through some sort of interface or should the action processing layer be adding the actions to an input queue in the game logic code?

• Simulating simultaneous entities

  Consider the need to simulate a set of entitities in an accurate way. All entities exist in an artificial timeline. Within 'steps' of this timeline, all entities can do certain operations. It is imperative that timed events, are handled accurately, and not in processing order. So simple threading isn't a proper simulation, nor is procedurally walking across all entities. Processing may be slow, accuracy is key here. I have some ideas how to implement this myself, but most likely something like this has been done before. Are there any frameworks available for these purposes? Is there any particular paradigm more suitable?

• Change a UIButton View's background upon press

  This should be easy but its got me stumped. I've got a button on each row of a table cell. The button is to delete the file associated with that row. I have an image that indicates if the file is present on the iPhone or not present. When the user presses the button, the target action method (showDeleteSheet) then calls a UIActionSheet with a variable to give it the indexPath of the row pressed. Then the user presses delete on the action sheet and the action sheet's clickedButtonAtIndex method deletes the file. Now, I need to update the button's background image property to change the image in the appropriate table cell to the not downloaded image. This can be done in either the button's target action method or the action sheet's clickedButtonAtIndex method. Because I test if the file is downloaded when the button is made and the background image is set, when I scroll down so the cell in question is de-queued then scroll back up it show's the correct image. I've tried to force the table to reload but [table reloadData]; is doing nothing. I've tried reloadRowsAtIndexPaths and still no good. Any one care to educate me on how this is done?

  Hello all, I am getting some odd behavior from stock table cells, or maybe not odd, maybe I am making some assumptions. I create the cells as follows: cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; Then I assign an image to the default imageView property. My image usually comes in from a user, so it might be larger than the default size. To take care of this I: [cell.imageView setContentMode:UIViewContentModeScaleAspectFit]; which I expected to scale the image for me within the control, but in reality, the images are all over the map. So, is there a proper way to constrain the image in stock cell types? Thanks in advance!

  Take a look at the bottom right example on the jQuery Cycle Advanced Demos page. Notice how when it loops the gallery, the next image goes beneath the last, as opposed to others where the next image always covers the previous one? Well, at least in Firefox 3.6.3. I'm developing a custom animation with jQuery cycle that has the same problem. When it loops, the next image goes under instead of over. This is my config object I pass to cycle(). { fx: 'custom', timeout: 5000, easing: 'easeInOutQuad', pause: 1, cssFirst: { zIndex: 0 }, cssBefore: { display: 'block', top: -500, opacity: 1, zIndex: 1 }, animIn: { top: 0, opacity: 1 }, animOut: { opacity: .2 }, cssAfter: { display: 'none', opacity: .2, zIndex: 0 }, delay: -1000 } Basically the animation is the same as the cover fx, except the previous image should fade away as the next one comes down on top. Is there any way to get the next slide when it loops to cover the previous one? Thanks

I have the following tree directory: / resources/ icons.qrc image.png Here is the content of icons.qrc: <RCC> <qresource prefix="/resources" lang="fr"> <file alias="image.png">image.png</file> </qresource> </RCC> I declare my QIcon like that: QIcon(":/resources/image.png") Under Windows, it works well but on Linux (I only tried on Ubuntu 10.4 so far), the images aren't displayed.   As you may know we have got a new ActionResult called FileResult in RC1 version of ASP.NET MVC. Using that, your action methods can return image to browser dynamically. Something like this: public ActionResult DisplayPhoto(int id) { Photo photo = GetPhotoFromDatabase(id); return File(photo.Content, photo.ContentType); } In the HTML code, we can use something like this: <img src="http://mysite.com/controller/DisplayPhoto/657"> Since the image is returned dynamically, we need a way to cache the returned stream so that we don't need to read the image again from database. I guess we can do it with something like this, I'm not sure: Response.StatusCode = 304; This tells the browser that you already have the image in your cache. I just don't know what to return in my action method after setting StatusCode to 304. Should I return null or something?

• How to draw a rectangle in WinForm app in the correct location

  I have a WinForm app that has an image displayed in a PictureBox that has the added functionality of allowing a user to draw a rectangle on the image by clicking and dragging. The Location, Height and Width of the rectangle are saved to disk. When the image is viewed again I would like to automatically redraw that rectangle in the same position on the image. When I redraw it, however, the Height and Width are fine but the location is always off. The location is being captured in the MouseDown Event like so private void pbSample_MouseDown(object Sender, MouseEventArgs e) { if (SelectMode) { StartLocation.X = e.X; StartLocation.Y = e.Y; //later on these are saved as the location of the rectangle } } And I am redrawing it like so public void DrawSelectedArea(Rectangle rect) { Graphics g = this.PictureBox1.CreateGraphics(); Pen p = new Pen(Brushes.Black); g.DrawRectangle(p, rect); } Given the location from the MouseEventArgs captured during the MouseDown Event how can I calculate the correct location to redraw my rectangle?

• Any good source of explanatory documentation on ColorMatrix?

  I'd like to try using ColorMatrix, but am only able to find examples that convert an image to grayscale. And even then, they tend to be presented as a chunk of 'magic numbers' code with no explanation. Does anyone know of a 'tutorial' on how to use ColorMatrix? For example I'd be interested in converting a grayscale image to a color image, where white == transparent, and black = a solid color, with gray pixels somewhere in between. Could ColorMatrix do that?

  Hello everyone, I am using Silverlight 3 + VSTS 2008. I have a image (Multiscale image control) and I place tooltip on this image. The function of Tooltip works fine. Since the image is big (about 500 * 500 size), and since end user could move mouse on the picture, and I want to display tooltip position along with the mouse (i.e. when mouse moves, I want to tooltip move along with the mouse). Currently, the tooltip displays at a fixed position.   Hi I was following the method for asynchronously loading images into a listview as outlined in evan charlton's blog here. Looking into the docs it says: First, if a SimpleAdapter.ViewBinder is available, setViewValue(android.view.View, Object, String) is invoked. If the returned value is true, binding has occured. If the returned value is false and the view to bind is a TextView, setViewText(TextView, String) is invoked. If the returned value is false and the view to bind is an ImageView, setViewImage(ImageView, int) or setViewImage(ImageView, String) is invoked. If no appropriate binding can be found, an IllegalStateException is thrown. I don't really understand how to debug (in eclipse) to find out how this process is occuring, advice on how to do so would be a help. Thanks.

The problem I have is that when I do this on element with text, it results in a noticeably blurry and darker image meaning the switch from UIElement to Image is noticeable.   Hi , sometimes when running a google maps program with an overlay image i will receive a bit map out of memory error. It always seems to be at a random point in the app. Im not sure how to solve this. Anyone have any ideas ?
