  Low level Java, I mean, bits, bytes, bit masking, GC internals, JVM stuff, etc in the following contexts: - When you are building an enterprise app using frameworks like Spring, Hybernate, etc. - Interviews for a Sr Java Developer position where you are expected work on a existing Enterprise App that was built using some frameworks (Spring, EJB, Hybernate,etc) - Architects (Java) I understand knowing the very low level is "good". But how often do you think / use of these in the real-world, unless you are developing something from the ground-up keeping performance in mind?

  Hi, Is there any other method than nHibernate by wich we can generate db schema from class definition? My classes arn't that complex etc (few one-to-many relations). However I would like to just be able to save my objects in db and recreate schema if needed. I am stuck with .NET 2.0. I am not that particular about performance for this project, I am just lazy to create tables and write save/load code and deel with nHibernate xml. Thanks

• What are the reasons *not* to use a GUID for a primary key?

  Whenever I design a database I automatically start with an auto-generating GUID primary key for each of my tables (excepting look-up tables) I know I'll never lose sleep over duplicate keys, merging tables, etc. To me it just makes sense philosophically that any given record should be unique across all domains, and that that uniqueness should be represented in a consistent way from table to table. I realize it will never be the most performant option, but putting performance aside, I'd like to know if there are philosophical arguments against this practice?

  Hello, I have a containing div that has multiple divs within which is updated every 25ms using innerHTML (for performance reasons). I have tried using event delegation to capture events but nothing I seem to do captures the click event. I think this may be due to the speed that the contents are getting updated.   I am attempting to to use python to gain some performance on a task that can be highly parallelized using http://docs.python.org/library/multiprocessing. When looking at their library they say to use chunk size for very long iterables. Now, my iterable is not long, one of the dicts that it contains is huge: ~100000 entries, with tuples as keys and numpy arrays for values. How would I set the chunksize to handle this and how can I transfer this data quickly? Thank you.

  I know Oracle offers several refreshmode options for their materialized views (on demand, on commit, periodically). Does Microsoft SQLServer offer the same functions for their indexed views? If not, how can I else use indexed views on SQLServer if my purpose is to export data on a daily+ on-demand basis, and want to avoid performance overhead problems? Does a workaround exist?

  Hi, In one of my application I'm using the WebClient class to download files from a web server. Depending on the web server sometimes the application download millions of documents. It seems to be when there are lot of documents, performance vise the WebClient doesn't scale up well. Also it seems to be the WebClient doesn't immediately close the connection it opened for the WebServer even after it successfully download the particular document.
